Not sure if you understood financially I am not able to
switch careers. Bless you if you have enough money to do that for yourself.

Luckily, I am not one of these people who does not have a good job, I do, but whatever the reasons, mainly greed in my opinion, I am losing a lot of benefits and money steadily.

if you want to blame the MTs that is fine but one thing I have never understood is managements lack of ability to well manage. when I was in management people were not qualified never even got positions so not sure who is to blame really. why do all these (yours words) shoddy MTs get hired. Management is an art, and companies that let this go on just so they get their work typed - I do not think a lot of them really care how it gets done. Now I am speaking of the bigger companies. they pawn off any conscience they have on the MT making us solely responsible for caring for the patient when if anyone was really concerned about the patients healthcare would still be not for profit and not a business like it has turned into. But we MTs are the only ones expected to put out 99-100% work or get our pay reduced in many cases?

Gotta run right now but I could not disagree with you more really in some things.
Saying that an MTSO also benefits financially from having...
MTs work from home is a fact. I don't believe what I make was ever mentioned anywhere in this thread. Maybe you have the wrong post?
Why are you spending your life doing
Quit MT and find something that is fulfilling for you.
Any IC's who are single parents- How do you manage financially?
I want to try IC'ing but afraid to take the plunge!
$100 per year? I was spending about $1000 sm
with my yearly membership to AAMT, a subscription to the journal, membership dues for my local chapter and fees for attending symposia for credits, the cost of driving/traveling to these things, etc. The math didn't work for me one single bit.
I just got 5 offers of work after spending (sm)
2 hours combing the archives of the company boards. I then visited the sites of the services that were spoken of the most highly and which seemed to best fit my needs. Most of the service sites had testing/inquiry pages set up; those that didn't, I wrote a brief email, noting how well the service's ICs spoke of it, enclosed my resume (in the letter, not as an attachment), and asked if they needed help. Most responded. The companies that advertise, on the other hand, get between 200 to 500 resumes; unless one is one of the first responders or in some other way manages to stand out, the chances of even receiving a response are slim. Check the ads on For the Record and Advance; Google for lists of MT companies. There is still lots of good work out there.
i agree ...stay home a little longer if u can financially
i wouldnt trade the time i've had at home for anything
I agree. Nothing is worse than spending hours on these web-based tests
and they do not give any information until after the tests only to find out that you would not have wasted your valuable time had you known what they paid to begin with. Terrible waste of time. Time is just too valuable to spend so much time on something you have been doing for more years than you can remember.
Seems you're spending more UNPAID time/work e-mailing..sm

and xeroxing as if you were sitting there with no work.

broke
well, i really dont know what to do.  should i keep working, and hoping my check will be on its way? this is really a very bad christmas present for my family.  never go with Medigrafix.
Broke MT
I just had an interview with a local surgeon wanting me to work from his office 2 days per week part-time. That salary would equal almost an entire week of what I would get being paid 7 cents per line. It was interesting when I spoke with this doctor because he told me he stopped using services a long time ago because they charged him so much. He would rather pay the Transcriptionist the money rather than the service. Most services charge 14 to 16 cents per line and only pay the transcriptionist 7 cents per line. We all would be making good money if we could get 14 to 16 cents per line, so it looks like I am going back to the work force and working for the doctor directly. At least I will get paid a decent salary working part-time compared to making the same amount full-time with a service. Not worth the stress these days!!!!!!!!!!!
4.5 and not nearly enough. Going broke fast.
//
You will be broke if you do VR work for them..sm
Their pay system is strange.  They don't pay per gross line they pay per net which I don't really understand.  I do VR for them because I thought it would be much better than straight typing, wrong!  I am making about $200 less a month.  If you were to do just straight typing for them, then they would be a great place.
My philosophy: If it ain't broke... :)) sm
I'm very happy with the existing platform, thanks! It's MT-friendly and it's clear that MTs had a say in what was/wasn't important in getting the job done.

I'm also very happy with the current compensation by KS rather than lines and/or VBC, but I have a feeling the KS will disappear with the new platform, all the better to compare us to our overseas counterparts, which seemed to be the major push of today's meeting... and I'm not sure I understand that.
tired and broke
I have always really liked D and think she has had the best interests of MTs at heart. But this overhiring really has me stumped. I am only an old grandma, not an MBA, and I really cannot understand any of it. Does anybody know when the new accounts are going to start up? 30-60 days will take us into the time when people are getting ready for the holidays. I wish the new accounts would start and they would take the newcomers off of our regular accounts.
Tired and broke
I am giving the benefit of the doubt and thinking that many of our accounts might be overflow and therefore the powers that be at MDI do not really know how much we get to do daily, i.e., it is not a full contract account. So I can understand how frustrated they must be when (1) they do not know from day to day how much overflow there will be and (2) some unscrupulous MTs do double the lines they are supposed to, thus throwing things into disarray. I get all that and I sympathize. What I do not understand is why so many new folks were hired when there is no work for us moldy oldies. I am not asking to know corporate secrets; they are none of my business. I am only hired to type lines. But I would like to know if this is going to be a situation that will go on for months (which I cannot endure) or for a couple of weeks more. (My family is used to hot dogs, so we can survive.) I just wish there could be some words of encouragement or update during this difficult time. That is not a make wrong of the company, not at all. MDI is a magnificent company and I want to see it continue to grow and thrive and see us grow and thrive with it. I just feel kind of all alone (with no work) out here. Geez, I am starting to sound as childish as my nephew. (He is seven.)
tired and broke
I so agree with you. Your sentence that GOOD COMMUNICATION DOESN'T COST A PENNY, BUT THE VALUE IS EXTRAORDINARY should be stitched in a sampler and give to every MTSO in the world. You have hit it right on the head.
Natives are broke, busted and
downright disgusted! It is not just the wages that have been ground down, but morale, too. A job is a lot like a marriage. You picked the one thinking you were in love and willing to give everything you have in you, but after a few years of being kicked around, even a toothless dog will eventually bite! All anybody seems to know about TX anymore is that they don't want to do it! It amazes me still the worst critics in the office were the ones who did the least amount of work, talked in the halls, on the phone, etc.
Yes and you'll go broke. Impossible

You'll spend 30 minutes on a report trying to decipher the horrible dictators and you'll be lucky if you make 30 lines in that time.

I just went broke because of a company and would love to share their name
www.ripoffreport.com

We take a job expecting some semblance of constancy. We are not teenagers living at home.

And I have yet to meet an MT who does this for free, as a hobby, 40 hours a week.

Here we are, in the U.S., where insurance is expensive, the economy is mutilated and dirt cheap labor is just across the deep blue sea.

Some whine more than others but this Gourdpainter, I have been reading her for a long time, and from the tone of her posts, she is not a (an?) habitual complainer. She is helpful and considerate in her posts to new MTs and others who have a question.

United we Stand, Divided we Fall.

Just like the coal miners back in Pennsylvania, the company will let you eat coal dust all day long to save themselves the cost of ventilation, and then fight to not have to pay for the medical costs of an aging coal miner with black lung and ashen colored skin. No one made him go down there, I know, I know, but a man has got to feed his family. Work is work, you take what your skills will get you.

Fair enough - Some huge corporation is going to sue someone over a thread on the internet. This is about the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. Have you read message forums elsewhere on here? There are disparaging remarks made about everything under the sun.

Word of mouth travels far and wide, and so does the truth.

So give us a break and let us make enough money to live a respectable life in this job which we do with steadfast dedication if we make it over 3 years.

Kindness reaps kindness. Consideration for the MT - For instance:

Supervisor: Gee Susie, work load is light these days, and your paycheck reflects that. How are you doing? Are you able to make ends meet? How can we remedy this in house or outside of this company so you can have an income you can rely on?

MT: Thank you. I would appreciate that very much. I am down to a few nickels after I pay the bills and am beside myself with worry. The anxiety sends me to MTstars where I vent in hopes of finding others who understand the DREAD AND FEAR I AM EXPERIENCING because I WORK ALONE ALL DAY LONG,without my comrades to take breaks with or have lunch with WHERE THIS TYPE OF VERBAL EXCHANGE WOULD ORDINARILY TAKE PLACE.

From the sounds of things, you'll go broke waiting
your resume.  From the looks of things, it sounds like there is more crab grass than green grass in that Keystrokes pasture.  Those who want to pay for equipment while being an employee can go ahead with their bad selves.  That would be the number one    for me.  As an employee, they should not make you pay for your own equipment  .  Just put me in a   if you think that Meditech is a great platform.  That program is all kinds of outdated and NOT   friendly at all!  Okay, I've had my fun with the smileys!!!!  Have a great day!
They will overhire and in 4 months you will have no work and will be broke - happened to me..nm
nm
People don't "choose" who they love. My family is broke s/m
as broke can be, but I would not trade my husband or anything else for all of the money in the world. Your comment was pretty rude. The original poster is obviously just feeling discouraged. Who in the h*ll are you to judge who she picked or to act as if perhaps she just get a better husband? You sound like a spoiled child.

Not to mention your grammar. Are you an MT? You SHOULD OF CHOSE a better husband ?? Nice. You might be more careful the next time you want to insult someone that you don't come off looking incompetent yourself.
If you anger the acct manager in this business, you may end up broke.
They call us teams - yeah, right. The games played by those in management positions can essentially hold an MT as a financial hostage, making their life a living hell. I am watching it right now happen with a coworker who stood up for herself and now? She makes 50% less than she did a year ago and is powerless to change it.
Has anyone ever left Keystrokes and gone back? I left a few months ago and realize that I made a

nm

It is as simple as filling out a form. I did it when I left an MTSO and when I left sm
a non-MT position at a company years ago.

What company? I did not know that any of them offer 401K anymore.
No problem :) No matter how long, it is too long for me - I am broke the day after payday. Kids wi
do that to you!

I know that they have worked very hard to make sure that checks are never late and I can say that in the past two years, I have had one problem (2 days late) and in the past 18 months, they have all been on payday and perfect.

I know that there are a lot of hard feelings in MT in general. I also know firsthand (and I am not mgmt) how hard KS has worked to get things going good.

I would not want to walk in an MTSO's shoes for any amount of money, but that's just me. I like to finish my work for the day, forget about work when not working and get paid on payday. I never want the other things that go with mgmt or owning a company of any kind :)
Yes, work at TT and I am very low on work and going broke...nm
nm
may I ask why you left? nm
,,
I would keep looking. I left after a
month because of the very low and convoluted pay scale, as well as the fact that I was never kept on an account long enough to build up any speed. Unless things have changed, you'll waste a lot of time looking up information that other services provide. They're nice people and they paid on time, but I didn't see enough earning potential so I moved on. BTW, I had 15 years of experience at that time and 99+% QA scores.
When I left
I was told by my PS that if I went with another company, MQ would one day buy it and then fire any MQ working there who had left MQ for that company. At the time it seemed like an empty threat, but who knows?
I did too, but left them behind and
if you want to email me I will tell you about my experience. I do not like the idea of posting negative things on this board, as everyone finds a company to be different for them. If interested, I will be glad to share.
I tell you why I left

Did you notice on Spantel the time difference?  You could be working in the evening yet the system would show it was the next day?  I was told about that when I was hired, yet I was constantly hearing from my manager about not having enough lines and there they were, credited for the next day.  They lost paperwork constantly as well and I had to work an entire month before getting paid because somebody lost the paperwork I filled out.

I'd check my lines and see a list of jobs that showed 0 lines...yet go back in later and some would be there.  It was very very inconsistent.

LOL - that's why I left!!

That is why I left
nn
will anybody be left?
OMG, I know how you feel. My position was also outsourced after 20 years. I currently work for a national; but I feel there is no job security. So, I plan to go back to school and get out of transcription. This is not a profession that I would advise anybody to get into.
I left because sm

My lead just WOULD NOT leave me alone. I don't mind working 40 hours a week or even a few more, but when I have a day off, I want it to be a day off. She was constantly emailing and saying Critical Status on _____ Account and she would call me on my days off and ask me to work. Now, I know some people welcome the extra work, but I am very fortunate to be in the position where I have a husband who makes a good salary and yes, I need a full-time job but I do not need overtime and I do not want to work seven days a week.

If the pay had been better, I would have just learned to be thick-skinned and ignore her when she kept bugging me, but the pay wasn't that great and I got an offer from some local doctors to do their overflow work and then found a second part-time job with a local MTSO and said bye-bye Keystrokes. Now I have weekends off and can basically set my own hours. Just call me Happy Camper.

I left OSi and went to SPi
I left OSi because my account coordinator changed about 3 times within a month then found the same thing happening at SPi. Now the word is out that another OSi account manager or maybe even 2 are leaving. This just gets old. I am very happily employed at Keystrokes now.
Thank you all. I like to see how much I have left to do. (nm)

actually not as many as you think have left
You're just speculating though!

I left also
more than once.  Their new policy states that cannot be rehired for a year.  If leave more than once may be 2 yrs before rehired.  I know, they won't rehire me either.  I gave them a little less than 2 wks. Luck of the draw I guess. Grass is not always greener on other side of track.  Hang in there.  There is still work out there, may not be with them, but you will not starve.  I don't think you will anyway.  :)
That is exactly why I have left the
MT world because it seems MOST of companies do not care about the MT, just themselves. I know it takes money to run a business, but why cheat on the MT's livelihood??? Anyway, I just got sick of the crap, and I found it to be totally
Unacceptable. That is my cents per line worth.
I left
because the line counting method jips you IMO.  If you are not on Extext you may be fine.  Wonderful people but I could not make my line count goals with them...
Been there- left
I agree about the statement that there are a few good team management players, but the one that did QA for me was horrible. Would send e-mails in CAPS. I felt that to be very unprofessional on her part. Filling in demographics was the pits. Not a money maker for me either. I left after the CAPPED e-mail. I would stay away from this company. Sound quality was bad as well. Posting my personal opinion.
I left the Q in Dec

and am now a HAPPY Keystroker!!  Good luck, what account do you have??

Left QT
Fortunately I left QT when If first heard the rumors, several months before they closed, LAJ was nice enough to allow me to continue to work part time so the transition was not too bad, except it was a big drop from gross back to characters. I too left and went to WMX but only stayed about a month and then moved on, have been at the current company 6 months and a lot like QT, one account pretty much, very basic account instructions, 12 hour window, I still miss QT but am happy now with benefits.
Has anyone left MQ and still
Getting their E-mail??
Had it and left - sm
I went with my cable company...no cap. Unlimited really means unlimited. For me, cable was cheaper, faster and much more reliable.
Just left there and sm
I couldn't get out quick enough.  They promise endless work and that turned out to be a great big bust.  They constantly run out of work.  The QA dept is ok or I should say there is at least one person in the QA dept I dealt with that is good.  The other I can't say for certain she even knew what she was doing as I received some really iffy feedback from her that I had to question.  The platform IS Apex and it stinks pure and simple.  It is nonproductive and slow as all get out.  I also think the line counts are not what they should be but there is no way to verify that as it's all done internally within the platform.  If you're looking for production and to make money I'd recommend you running the other way.  There are so many other opportunities out there.  Good luck to you though.
When I left
I was making 9.75 cents a line. I would not have stayed if they had offered me nine dollars a line. After I quit, someone from MQ called and asked what it would take get to have me come back. I told them there was not enough money in all the world to entice me to come back.
Then you should have just left it at that
There was no need to even mention anything other than this particular MTSO is a crook. If you didn't want anyone to make comments about your friend then you should not have even brought her up, or how much she is owed.

Your friend has learned a hard and valuable lesson and you get to go on a headhunt. Nice of you to take on the cause, but if her kids are starving I would think a sack of groceries would go a lot further than your ego.
