I work for them off and on, and to my knowledge there is NO offshoring involved in anything they do. Great group of people, too.

HEADS UP, MDI-ERS --- LAST I HEARD PROSCRIPT WAS HIRING IC'S!!!!!!

My fellow MDIers
I feel your pain. Yesterday I got exactly half of my lines. I can't feed my family this way. What to do, what to do? I totally love MDI but 50% of my lines doesn't pay a California mortage. I wish they would give us some timeline as to when the work will be normal again.
Question for MDIers
Has the work shortage problem been resolved?
Question for MDIers
Does anyone have any kind of guestimate as to how many MDI MTs have left since announcement of the merger?
My fellow MDIers
Is anyone else still sad about the demise of the MDI as we knew it?  It seems to me that the last bastion of integrity and respect for MTs kind of fell apart.  How do you all feel after these several weeks have passed?
Question for MDIers
Maybe I am just in a bad mood this morning, but I received an e-mail from management that really irked me.  Anyone else tired of being asked to change their schedule to cover nights and weekends.  I already cover a weekend day.  I really am not inclined to give up more family time for a company that will not even tell me how much money I will be making Jan 1 or what my schedule will be.  Maybe if MDI payed weekend incentive like other companies, I would be willing to do more.
Yep, I think MDIers are gonna get it
This whole thing is right out of the MQ playbook. Get ready to get hit!
You MDIers are certainly better paid
than most people who signed on with Transcend directly.  I guess they value you more. Having 30 years experience myself, they pay me much less for acute care.  And Transcend offered me more than other companies.   So, congrats.  While I am not making the money, it is nice to see another MT who is.  Better you than the suits.
MDIers paid better
Well I am not being paid as much as you MDIers will be and I am at the top of Transcend's payscale.  I will be asking for a raise. You cannot pay new people to the company more than the people who have been working for you for years, that just is not right.  I gotta get out of this profession.
For MDIers re: email from owner
I'm not going to post the email here from the owner that came over today, but if you work for MDI you know what I'm talking about.  Any thoughts as to what this means for MTs specifically?
Question for fellow MDIers

Are any of you getting work today? I have been babysitting my screen for seven hours now and have had five short jobs all day.  Does anyone know what is going on?

Question for my fellow MDIers
We went for weeks with insufficient work so I took on a side-job, which has been reliable and plentiful.  Now my previously-empty MDI accounts seem to be overflowing and MDI wants extra work.  Has this happened to any of you?  What did you do?  I want to be loyal to MDI but, given that there was low work for so long, I am inclined to keep the other job as well just as a backup in these economic times.  Of course, I will always do the required lines at MDI but I am at a point where I am now afraid to put all of my eggs in one basket.  What do other people think?  I just feel more confident having two sources of income rather than one alone.  Is my thinking wrong here?  I'd really appreciate some feedback as I think I am too close to the situation to see things clearly.
Question for my fellow MDIers
Just curious, is your situation getting better?  I have been sitting here for four hours and have done 300 lines and my account just ran dry.  What are you doing about your situation?  I do NOT want us to bash MDI, am just looking for some positive suggestions as to how others are handling this dry period.   Let's exchange ideas and keep it positive.  I am not encouraging a bash MDI session, just looking for some solutions.  I do not want to leave because I love MDI, but I also need to work, so am kind of in a dilemma.  Ideas? Encouragement, etc?
Any other MDIers out of work today?
No work on my primary, secondary and tertiary accounts!
How many of my fellow MDIers got replies to the
emails with personal questions that were sent?  On the conference call they gave a general email address, but also said that if we have a personal situation or concern that we needed to ask we could send to Carlotta or Dorothy.  How many of you that did this got a reply?
am I paranoid? (to current MDIers)
This talk about letting people go come January 1st is already worrisome, but tell me, have any of you sent a personal email to D lately and NOT gotten a reply? Just wonder if this is a clue I should be paying attention to.
Do you MDIers remember when they asked us ..sm
to send them a list of all the MDI equipment we had at home with serial numbers?  I have only worked for MDI for a littler over 3 years, but that is the first I had been asked that.  I think this buy out has been in the works for a long, long time, as they were probably compiling a list of assets for the purchasing companies.  They did this at my husband's company ... a rep from the company wanting to buy their company walks through the plant and documents assets and equipment to value it for the purchase.
Many MDIers have had this problem today. Not uncommon.
You might want to get a second job as back up.
Pay attention please .sm
This is my final comment on this subject.  From day one I was never contacted by anyone other than your CEO.  She responded to my resume.  She offered me the job stating there was plenty of work.  She called me to tell me how wonderful Keystrokes was and how happy I would be there.  She welcomed me aboard.  She told me I would be contacted regarding the necessary paper work within the next few days.  That was the last I ever heard from KS.  She knows that many of us live from paycheck to paycheck.  I don't care how busy she is.  This is just a blatant inexcusable disregard for a fellow MT.
You need pay attention to what is sm
formulary and nonformulary with medications. Apparently some medications were nonformulary which is why they were $50.00. They cost more to purchase. If you can get another drug in name brand you pay 30.00, if generic it $10.00. Always, always read your insurance packets.
Not wanting to know...
what anyone's cpl rate is, just would like to know if after working for this company a while, do they give raises at all?

I am not trying to find anything out at all...just curious if you are with them for some time, do they give you raises? That's all I would like to know.
I am currently an IC and wanting to
if I will be able to maintain the amount of money I make now as an IC. I currently type around 190-200 or so reports a day. Is this doable at Keystrokes? TIA
Attention J
.
Don't pay attention
to the Keystrokes bashers. The bottom line is, as I've found time and again, that Keystrokes is a great company to work for. Please don't let the nuts on here get to you. You were just telling the truth and have a right to your opinion.
Thanks, wanting to know
The reason I am making changes is because of no work/low work where I am. Maybe this kind of nonsense goes on everywhere these days.
WANTING ISN'T GETTING...SM
As an IC they cannot demand a schedule AND THEY KNOW IT!  They are breaking the law if they do, simply stated.  You are giving up employee benefits, PTO, insurance, etc. in exchange for that flexibility.  But there are always going to be MTs that will give them their cake and let them eat it, too.
actually, was just wanting to know myself
if anyone works or worked for the Nevada location that can tell us the good, bad and ugly.
I don't believe you, but if true, then MQ is obviously not wanting

There is no way to meet the demands they are setting forth for employee.

If they cant post why, I would just not pay any attention.
I cant stand it when someone says they suck.

That in itself shows their immaturity.

I dont know about this company myself, but just the comment made makes me feel this person has some issues.
Attention poster: Instead of ...
Instead of writing in ALL CAPS here begging for help, why don't you email the admin directly at Administrator: admin@mtstars.com

Obviously, you were not paying attention...
I corrected myself before you could. BUT, you're the type that likes to rub things in another one's face. I REST MY CASE LOL HAHA
Don't pay any attention to that person SM

because he/she has totally missed the entire point of the posts....it's not a matter of discipline or whether they want to do it or not.  It's the LAW.  They want to have employees under their control and that is fine, but there are some responsibilities that go along with having employees.  One of them is collecting and paying the employee's taxes.

This is not an option for them; they have to.  There is no reason for you to have to set aside your own tax money.  If you wanted to do that, you'd be an IC and not an employee.

Thank you. I am aware of that. I am wanting
Thanks for your input.
Attention: QT followers
You go ahead and stick your heads in the sand and I can guarantee you will be on the board crying because you have no job in 30 days. I can't give names or specific information or it will be removed. Just know that this information is straight from the client.
I don't pay attention to posts like yours

I don't know about others but I find your post highly offensive and if I were searching for employment I certainly would not base my decision on offensive statements like yours.

When I was searching for employment awhile back I had 4 offers for employment, and decided to go with OSI.  I'm still with them and very happy with my choice.  If for some reason I decide I made the wrong choice you can bet I won't get on here and badmouth them and their present employees because they weren't right for me.

i corrected myself. PAY ATTENTION LOL

ATTENTION ANYONE WHO WAS LET GO FROM JLG THIS WEEK
I understand 5 people were let go from JLG this week, I would like to chat with any of you who are interested, not to turn it into a war stories episode or to badmouth management. I am just curious about some things.  We can stay anonymous if you would like.  Just post a reply if you are interested in just letting your feelings out with a follow exJLGite.  I am just very hurt and would not mind having someone to share my feelings with. We dont have to sit around and feel sorry for ourselves, maybe we can even help each other find new jobs.
Attention Annie
.
I am wanting information on
Good companies, pay on time, etc? Thank you.
Don't blame you for wanting out. All
s
What's the purpose of them wanting
you to log everything?  Like country below, I always just jot down as downloading, but it sounds like maybe you are doing something a little more extensive?  If they require it to get paid, I guess you don't have much choice...but if you're talking major log keeping, that would take up a lot of time   I've just always done it for my own peace of mind, actually did have incident of DQS some time ago not counting a report I did, had to contact supervisor and got it corrected.  Also many years ago with MQ in the old days before DQS, there was some glitch happened, and I was very luck to have the job numbers, as I had to tell the person calling me late at night what jobs I had done...
i'm wanting to get out the MT business myself sm

i love what i do, like you all say, finding work that pays good, the trust issues, and actually, i would like to leave my work at work instead of my computer staring me in the face, and me thinking, gosh, i could be sitting there working right now, or my problem lately is my work is running out.  the company i work for hires too many people to work.  i've been seriously thinking about going back to school and becoming a radiology technologist.  i do miss communicating with people face to face.  i want to make a difference in someone's life.  i definitely want to stay in the medical field.  i couldn't imagine not doing something medical.  right now i have two young boys that i really want to stay home until they are little older.  they are both in elementary school right now.  i even thought about working at the school somehow.  i wouldn't make as much money as i do typing, but i can see what goes on at the school.  this is a great topic!

sad that you think wanting a baby is
completely unnecessary. I worked for an IVF clinic and I would not call it a crap shoot, either - cold, cold, cold.......
pay attention, she says in the post sm
Pay days are the 10th and 26th.
What info are you wanting?..n/m

She was wanting to know if the disconnect was

a problem with her cable or with the hospital system.  The freezing up is definitely the hospital.  All the connection issues is definitely the hospital system and the slowness is the hospital system per their tech.

The C-phone disconnect I believe is a cable issue.

Thank you for bringing that to my attention. DONE! sm

I am writing to request that you support the above bill. I am a medical Transcriptionist in Wyoming. I make an above-average income, which I spend in my community, but my job is at risk because so much of this work is being outsourced, particularly to India. More importantly, the health and privacy of the American public is being put at risk by this practice. First, Indian transcriptionists do their job poorly and inefficiently. The gross errors jeopardize health care. Every error has the potential to injure or poison an American citizen, including many young children for whom accurate diagnoses and medication administration can be a life and death issue. To add insult to injury, Indian transcriptionists are NOT required to honor HIPAA. Once a physician's dictation leaves this country, it is no longer private.

I am a very hard working medical transcriptionist and I am still able to earn a decent living in this industry, but it is certainly not what it used to be. I am paid 9 cents for every 65 Keystrokes I type, whereas an Indian is paid 2 to 3 cents for the same work. This undercutting has hurt this industry and every woman (95% of us are female), many of whom are trying to support families on their own, has been dragged to the poverty line because our wages have not grown with the cost of living. I make 9 cents today and I made 9 cents in 1996, the year my career began.

Please protect the healthcare and privacy of Americans, and help to protect yet another industry from moving to overseas. Support and sign S.810/H.R. 1653.

ATTENTION ALL JOB SEEKERS

Regretfully, we have had an incident where an unscrupulous offshore individual has placed an advertisement for employment, pretending to be an actual US-based company. Apparently, some have applied and even begun to work by this ad with an abrupt cancellation.

The owner of the actual company (US-based) has contacted us and is understandably upset.

We have removed the advertisement and placed a ban on this individual. Please, if you have responded to or are corresponding with anyone related to the ad, we advise you to stop.

The ad was posted on 10/03/08 by Timothy Olyphant and the subject was Seeking Contractors. This what the ad stated:

We are currently seeking contractors for Transcription Project. Audio is downloaded via FTP. Preferably, these contractors would work the morning shift clearing jobs as they come through the server. We are looking for contractors committed to do 5000 lines/day, Tuesday through Saturday. This contractor positions are available immediately. Interested contractors can send in the resumes/contractor profile to integritymedicaltranscription@yahoo.com. Please quote your rate per line.

Please note that this ad is a scam and the email address is not the actual address of the real US-based company.

We encourage you to contact the Administrator (admin@mtstars.com) or one of our Moderators (cher@mtstars.com, javabean@mtstars.com) with any complaints or suspicions you have about advertisements on MTStars' Job Seeker's Board.

Those wanting to unionize should probably
Friday, July 18, 2008

When management becomes unreasonable, when benefits shrink and get more expensive at the same time, and when the average salary increase is way
less than the inflation rate, here’s something you can do: Form a union.

And on Long Island, you wouldn’t be alone. Just don’t let management know what you’re up to – it could get you in trouble.

There are already 650,000 construction workers, teachers and grocery and health care workers in unions on Long Island today, and as economic conditions
worsen, some employees are hoping to take cover by turning to organized labor.

John Durso, president of Local 338 RWDSU/UFCW and the Long Island Federation of Labor, said frustrated employees generally meet off-site to air their
grievances without fear of retribution.

“Sometimes they just want to get things off their chest, want somebody to listen,” Durso said.

Sometimes, however, it’s a lot more than that. If one-third of the employees sign on to join the union, an election is held and a petition is filed with the
National Labor Relations Board.

And that often leads to a fight.

It shouldn’t, Durso said. He said in the best circumstances, unions and employers work as partners to make a company better.

“It doesn’t make any sense for a union to make it so unworkable that an employer cannot grow or expand,” Durso said. “If you have the right attitude, the
right work environment, there’s no reason why an employer and a union cannot work together.”

Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. Companies faced with negotiating contracts with unions could stall, because if a deal isn’t reached within a year,
the union needs to be recertified.
“Nothing in law requires them to reach a contract. They are just required to negotiate in good faith,” said Bruce Millman, an attorney with Melville employment
law firm Littler Mendelson, representing employers.
To fight the stalling, unions are pushing federal lawmakers to pass the Employee Free Choice Act, which would make it easier to form a union. It would also
force binding arbitration in case of an impasse, thus eliminating stall tactics.
But Bob Archer, managing partner of Melville’s Archer, Byington, Glennon and Levine, which represents labor and employee benefits clients in the building
trades, entertainment and service industries, said he doesn’t expect the Employee Free Choice Act to pass under a Republican president.
Not all contracts stall, however, and once a first contract is reached, the union is official. Then members need only to pay a set amount of dues each year.
In 2004, the latest year with complete data, dues nationwide averaged $377 per month.
Another interesting note: Long Island’s unions are becoming more white collar.
For instance, adjunct professors at Stony Brook University and New York University recently became union employees, said Tom Conoscenti, chief
economist for the Long Island Contractors Association and the Long Island Builders Institute.
He said the adjuncts formed a union to receive amenities such as offices, a pension plan and health benefits.
Joining a union has hardly led to the elimination of “the struggle.” Traditional blue-collar industries, such as construction and plumbing, are feeling the
pressure of undocumented workers taking what had been union jobs, Archer said.
“That is an X factor that we have not seen in the past,” Archer said. “It’s more of an issue of competing against employers that use unregulated workers.”
Those employers are seeking cheaper labor, especially when prices for land, and subsequent property taxes, on Long Island are among the highest in the
nation.
The politics of labor has stretched from the Suffolk County Legislature to Albany.
For example, Hauppauge-based Bactolac Pharmaceuticals recently battled the unions and the Legislature over building a new headquarters at the
Hauppauge Industrial Park. The unions and supportive legislators wanted the company to hire contractors who paid a prevailing, or union, wage in exchange
for $6 million in state Empire Zone benefits.
Although the company originally balked, it eventually gave in, holding numerous meetings with union officials and promising to offer each contractor a fair
shake.
Also, the teachers union has played a large role in fighting a plan to create a 4 percent property tax cap, Conoscenti said.
The Commission for Property Tax Relief originally pitched the tax-cap proposal in May. Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi headed that group. The
proposal was endorsed by Gov. Paterson, but faced strident opposition from other New York leaders, including Democratic Assembly Speaker Sheldon
Silver of Manhattan.
If you would pay attention to the program sm
and click on get new dictation the flashlight DOES APPEAR. No one is blocked. TT is not saving work for ANYBODY. Goodness, it's the day after Christmas. Lots of docs took 4 DAY WEEKENDS AND ARE CLOSED. I know mine did. It's going to be the same way next weekend for New Year's. If you are that broke and need money that bad, then GET A SECOND JOB AND QUIT COMPLAINING. There is nothing you can do about no work at TT. And when the work comes in, you will probably gripe about that too. Get a life.
They are not alone in wanting numeral sm
instead of spelling said numeral out. Supposedly it is because the SR engine will insert the number 2 or 1 or 6 and they want all work to look consistent.

At least that's the story at my company.
