And the recruiter told me that they did not mind you not working a strict daily shift as long as you got your line count in -do you find this to be true?  Thanks for your information!

Editing daily line count
What is considered a good hourly line count for editing?  I'm being asked this by a service....but our hospital pays by the hour and by report, not by lines.  I'm trying to come up with a reasonable number.  Thanks for your help!
What is their daily line count requirement? nm

The platform they use is horrible and slows you down with regards to meeting daily line count. Also,
QA can be bitchy, however, if you know your stuff and nip that bitchiness in the bud early on, they don't bother you later...except for one.  She's rude and vague in her f/u comments, so there is really no way around that one except not to take it personal.
It's hard to explain. We got a certain line count reading
on the hospital system, which is what we thought we were paid for. Then, we were told not to use that number, but to go to the site in which TT counts the lines, and the money was considerably less. We never knew how they figured the lines or why it was lower. I tried to work harder to make up for it but the work kept disappearing during my shift, so I tried to work late at night but it became too difficult to make up for the lost line count, and also to make up for no work.
Very nice but hard to get line count due to lack of work...nm

I agree - hard to get decent line count with ExText...sm
Good to know other people are having the same issue as I thought I was just getting slower in my old age!  Seems like I can do almost twice as much with DocQScribe and escription.
They really dont pay enough for having most ESL accounts. Hard to get a good line count
and then to only make 8 cpl. It really is not worth it. Chartscript is not productive in my opinion.
i appreciate that and do count my blessings daily
I definately know I have a great situation job-wise. I'm also definately not one to groan and moan about life/job/bills, though I didn't really do that when I was making half of what I make now either. Sometimes I think a lot of success has to do with attitude. If I wasn't so nose to the grindstone and instead spent a good part of my time dwelling on the not so great parts of being an MT or about life in general, I definately could not be as successful or productive.

I realize that I may not be the norm, however do want everyone to know that it is possible. There are good companies out there and there are ways to make yourself successful and highly productive.
WMX - line count. Was working along and noted line count accumulation (sm)

signed off the report I was typing.  Those lines didn't add immediately, but sometimes they do that.  What concerns me is that when I signed that job off and the next one came up, not only were the other lines not added in but they were LESS than they were before I signed off previous job.

I thought I noticed this happening the other day, but figured I just wasn't paying attention.  Today I definitely noticed it.  For some reason it changed it's mind and took 8 lines off my line count.  What the heck?

Am not really ecstatic with the way things are going anyway  and then this confuses me.

Please, someone have a realistic explanation so I don't feel paranoid and cheated here.

Then company should set line count per day with incentives for above that. If get line count done

Any companies with a daily line requirement of 800?
I'm serious. Are there any companies IC or employee with a daily line requirement of around 800 or so? I seriously lose concentration after that but I love to transcribe.
Can you share what the daily line requirements are?
and maybe the insurance rates? TIA
Mandatory Daily Line Counts..

Can someone tell me what the daily/weekly/per pay period mandatory line counts are for full time transcriptionists? (at the bigger medical transcription services, i.e., Transcend, Diskriter, MDI, etc.)  Also, how much more does a CMT make these days?  What about shift differentials and holiday pay?  It seems only fair that if an MT works a major holiday, like Christmas or Thanksgiving, that they are fairly compensated, but for some reason I wouldn't be surprised if they are not.

Thanks a lot!

It is very hard to find an IC job

IC jobs leave a lot to be desired especially with these MTSOs.  They can save money by hiring ICs, but then want to control you.  So, of course, if you mention that you want to set your own hours they back off.

I had one tell me (I have 20 years of experience) that they don't set hours, but I would be required to transcribe 3 days a week and the line count had to meet I think it was 3,000 lines.  I had to tell them which 3 days I would be working.  So, I figure that's talking out of both sides of your mouth.  In other words, the me setting my own schedule bit is within that 24-hour timeframe or whatever.

Then I decided to transcribe from a pool, which works well other than the fact that most of the work is gone in a jiffy, so I have to be on my toes.  If something comes up that day, then I'm fried and have to work into the evening.

Good luck to you finding a part-time IC job that you only work nights and isn't ESL and very low pay.  A lot of these companies don't even want part-time workers.  Also, some MTSOs want you to take an assigned physician (but you can type whenever you want).  What a joke!

I find that hard to believe.
I honestly wish the MTs there nothing but the best, some are friends. I don't think there is any other major MT company that is doing things like MQ is. Whoever is running it now has driven it into the ground. They have some crazy ideas on how to run that company.
Hard to find anywhere
Finding benefits of any kind for part time is hard in any industry - high tech is probably the worst! The problem is the company does pay a portion of your benefits to the insurance company and if you are part time it increases their overhead with less profit from your work. And if they do offer benefits you will probably find the cost not worthwhile because very little of your medical will be covered for the amount you have to pay.

You'd be surprised how affordable private health insurance is...if you are working part time I'd start looking around and see what is out there. Employer provided is always less expensive but that doesn't mean private isn't affordable!:)

Good Luck!
There must have been some misunderstanding. I find this hard to believe.

I find it hard to believe they will do "pay cut"
I think more likely they will adjust line counting to take more of a percentage. I can't believe they would try to do an across the board cut. The floodgates would really be open, I believe, if they did that.
That will be kind of hard to find....
I have been in that same situation before where some days I had plenty and others not so much.  Companies aren't going to want to hire you to just work whenever your workload is low.  I almost always have had 2 IC positions, PT with one and FT with the other.  Some days I am overloaded with work from both and then others days I only have work from one.  That's just the way it is with MTing.
Maybe one in a million MT's makes that but I still find it hard to believe.
It looks more common to me that people who do MT are at the doors of destitution. Just read these boards! We have people who can't even buy their kids Christmas gifts, we have people who have had their car repossessed, we have people in debt up to their eyeballs. Seems to me that's the norm by the amount of postings of that type.
In this day and time it is really hard to find a job that pays
anything decent and not work weekends. Maybe a smaller company, but the larger ones are almost all on Tues-Sat or Sun-Thurs.
It is hard to tell on this board. I find myself reacting very sm
defensively most of the time, and I am normally not like that.
sorry, but 10cpl with benefits is very hard to find
x
I find it hard to believe that Debbie "promised" you
So is Transtech the first company you ever worked at that had slow periods? Didn't think so.
Line counts - the lower the line count requirements
the harder the account and problems with trying to get production off the platform the company uses.
Gee, I tried real hard to find those good posts,

but all I could find, in addition to the other complaints already listed, were complaints about being in the "middle of an 11-minute job when it was pulled and given to someone else," "There has to be a better way NOT to make a living," "I know I am going to end up on food stamps," complaints of no compensation for down time and BTXT being down and MTs not being notified.

If there were one or two positive comments about it on there somewhere, they are certainly overshadowed by all the justified negativity, outrage and frustration that's there.

I wouldn't wish this company on my worst enemy, and you should be ashamed of yourself if you recommend that anyone apply there for employment these days.  It used to be a good company, and like the song says, "Used-to-be's don't count any more."  Although I don't expect them to "bring me flowers" I do expect to be able to earn a living wage, and those days are quickly disappearing.

I find it very hard to believe that all work types are on a 1-hour TAT(sm)
Are you talking about stats or everything?  Do you have this 1-hour TAT in writing?  I've never even heard of hospitals being on that tight a TAT.
When there is a lot of work, do you find it hard to make 1100?
cause I sure do.

You'll be hard pressed to find a company
that pays hourly and allows you to work at home, that just isn't the way the business works.   I'm not saying that those type of positions don't exist, just that they are extremely rare.  Now if you worked on-site that is a different story.
I find it hard to believe with this new pay plan coming out soon that they will be paying people
that rate and I understand all offices will be paying the same base rate and I seriously doubt they will be paying all MTs 9.50 base rate with incentive to get 2 more cents at 1600 lines. That is more than they are paying most now and have stopped giving raises.
If getting paid regularly for your hard work is important to you, find another company. nm

Do they count spaces? If not then it would be a lot less. Find out what the variables are from your
Good Luck. Had the same problem with a job I had to leave. I got half the lines I used to. Now with another job same thing, just a little more than half of what I used to. Still looking for a company with the fair line count (65 with spaces, headers, footers, etc). Tired of looking but still trying. Good luck to you.
NEVER believe the company line. Do line count for yourself.

MDI-MD: What are daily line requirements for full-time/part-time? Thanks! nm

LIne count

I have had the same accounts for up to 15 years.  On my surgeons with even charging 12 cents a line I can often make $50 to $60 an hour with their consults.  I think it is fair.  They pay within 48 hours, never a bounced check, got $500 Christmas bonus.  I can do them in my sleep.    They never question my line counts.  It is 60 characters to a line and gross lines, not character count.  On a consult for breast cancer, that is 3 to 4 pages,  probably type 50 lines as the physical is so standard.  If I charged more I would feel like I was ripping them off.  I make a decent living and so  pass it onto them.   I gross over 11,000 lines per month with them and work 5 to 6 hours per week.   They like the smaller amount per line.   My other is a clinic that I have a lot of auto corrects set up and still make $35 an hour and so why charge them an arm and leg when I am making decent money.  My sub's make close to $25 an hour as they aren't quite as fast as I am and don't use as many quick corrects but at 8 to 9 cents they average 250 to 350 (psych reports) per hour.   So we are all happy.     Half way through the year I myself  have made $26,500.   And that is with a slow June.

I have always understood that gross line pay is better than character counted. This could be false, however, depending on font used and size of font, as well as the format of the report. Sorry, don't know info specific to Meditech's system, but have read "To convert Gross Lines to Net Lines multiply Gross Lines by .70." This obviously reduces gross lines by 30% to a net line count, but it does not make sense that this formula would be accurate all the time considering all the variables involved (those mentioned above as well as the fact that character counted net lines are not a standard 65, and could be whatever number the client has agreed to pay on).

How can you get an exact count by Word? Even the different Word programs vary.
My line count
Some say that if you are not a high producer, you may actually do well with VR?  How true is that? Due to the summer, my line count is only in the 6 or 7000 range per pay period.  However, in the beginning of Sept, the kids will go  back to school and I will start working full time.  Given that there is full time work available to me, could I stand to actually make more money doing VR?
MQ line count
I've been on DQS for way over a year.  My line count has never improved and I am one the same account every day.  Join the class action and hopefully we will get our money eventually.

When I started there it was 198 lph...they have lowered it since I left. And why are they allowed to post jobs here? They outsource overseas!!! What happened to MTSTARS policy of not posting jobs from outsourcing companies?

Sharon, I've been with TT for over a year and have never had a line count problem (and know it is correct because I know what I can transcribe per hour/day, and have been doing it consistently for years before coming to TT and since being with TT).  Are you new at TT?  If you are having a problem you should email Debbie about it, as she will be able to answer any questions you may have.
Line Count
This may not be much help but I've worked for 2 years for TT and never had a problem.  Guess before TT I'd worked on just about every platform there is and been paid every way anyone could think of to pay; hourly, by the line, by the minute, per word, per 1000 words, by the page and maybe some others I've forgotten. Thus, I know what I produce forward and backward, don't need to check it, I KNOW when it's right and I'd KNOW if it was wrong.  Once before TT I was complaining to my husband that I absolutely was NOT making ANY money despite the fact that I was working 8 hours a day and that certainly my lines were not being recorded accurately.  Being the helpful person that he is, he suggested that I keep a log for a week of every minute I spent typing and every minute I was out of the chair and then take my log to administration.  To my horror, at the end of the first day, I found I had spent EXACTLY 2.5 hours of the 8 hours I was signed on actually working.  No wonder I wasn't making any money. (Not implying at all that this is the problem with your line count but it certainly was MY problem). Thereafter I parked my butt in the chair and it was amazing how my line count got accurate.
Line Count

I currently work for an oncologist and I do not get paid by the line, but rather a straight salary every month. Can some one tell me about how much typing is involved if expected to type 1800 lines per day??

Thanks

Tammie
