Exploitation

Does this mean that anyone in this country who has to work for minimum wage and does not receive health benefits is being exploited, since they may not have the training or ability to do something that pays more? There is always a bottom tier to the job market and hundreds of thousands of people who fill these jobs, but I don't think of it as exploitation. I CERTAINLY don't feel exploited as an MT. I make good money, get benefits, work a flexible schedule. That is a far cry from being exploited.

MT & EXPLOITATION OF WOMEN..SM

Yes, I believe the MT industry has gone all out, especially the home-based, in exploitation of women.  These MTSOs are pushing to get by with as much as they can.  How many guys do we see now as MTs?? There used to be a fair number of men doing transcription ... no more.  Maybe these guys got wise a long time before we ever will.  Women have always gotten the dirty end of the stick in the work force, but the MT industry has carried it to extremes, making demands they wouldn't make in any other industry... lower salaries, being manipulated re. schedules and hours, cheated on line counts, unpaid demographic work, etc. etc. etc.  I could go on and on.  It will stop when we make it stop.... sadly, there are MTs who so desperately need the income they'll put up with it.

Pure and Simple Exploitation
These companies are in the business to exploit MTs and make money. Bottom line. If there is a dispute, believe me the MT will take the brunt of it. It's very sad, but after 15 years, I'm leaving transcription. Enough is enough. For all I care, they can continue to pay those new transcriptionists that bottom wage who type garbage like, LUNGS: Crackles in the BASIS.
SINCE WHEN IS EXPLOITATION OF WORKERS PROPRIETARY?..sm
