I don't believe it - I work there too, have to earn my money - but I love it there.

I work at DDS and love it. Make great money!

Money is not the root of all evil, the LOVE of money is. nm

how many hours did you work to earn $126? - nm

I work for a nat'l as an employee, and my PTO rate is now HALF of what I actually earn working. S

I do VR and love it and yes you can make money but
you need a good platform to be able to do it. I work on Escription, possibly the best according to others who work on it also. I make 4 cents a line, the biggest percentage of my work day is VR but also have some straight thrown in. I do NOT use any keys to help me. I have done MTing now over 30+ years, no newbie here and fast speed of 120+. I usually average over $20 per hour. I am very familiar with my acct (same hospital job now for 19 years), hold my pedal down and fast forward as much as humanly possible and really like it much better than straight anymore. No secret on my end, just able to edit fast and yes, I do read each and every word and do not just let the work go through in order to make what I would consider decent money.
Maybe they are like me, love the platform, but can't make money with it

Yep, greed. The love of money is the root of all evil. NM

I make good money with them and love working there. sm
Here is why: I have one account with a backup account that I have only used twice and both times because they needed help not because my primary was slow. I do 1600+ lines in 8 hours. I started at 8 cpl and was raised to 9 cpl at 90 days. I have as much work as I want and while my PTO days are less than the last place I was for 8 years, I make more during the year. I literally made $17K more with KS last year than I did with MQ the year before. I am higher this year.

I love Chartscript. The account I am on is wonderful and yes, I use ShortHand with it.

Good to me? I made $61K last year with them and so far this year, I am at $56K, so I will pass that for sure.

No to paid holidays but if you work them, it is time and a half.

If my account needs extra help, they offer time and a half for weekends.

I would rather work for less per line and be able to do more lines than make more per line but struggle to get 1000 lines in a day.

There are nay-sayers for KS. They are strict on quality and expect everyone to work their schedule. Not all accounts are great, but that's anywhere. The only people I know who left were either let go for either quality or not working their shift or they quit because their lead was about to fire them.
I totally disagree, love VR and can make good money at it
I have been doing now for about 4-5 years and hate it when I have anything straight to type. I have done this for over 30 years, have excellent speed at straight but Escription is a bowl of cherries where I work. I would never want to completely straight type again, never.
well believe what you wish. I do know what I earn
and I have no reason to lie about it. I made almost $70,000 one year as an MT so it is not as much as I made as an MT, but it doesn't kill you like being an MT.

My benefits are also fully paid, which also adds to the bottom line.

Me too. You work, you make money. SM
You work well, you make more money. You work smart, you make more money. You work long, you make more money. You work hard, you make more money. The key word all else depends on isn't zone, it's work.
At least you have work. I spent the money
I agree that the QA person there was very rude in the short time I stayed (believe me it wasn't long).
I can earn PTO if I exceed
the specified line count each pay period. I am eligible for the dental/vision insurance (which I took), and the FSA (which I did not). I will also be eligible for the 401K after a year. So far, so good.
One way could mean that you could earn commission by

giving your employer or former employers client information to this type of person and if they landed a client then you would be paid the commission.  It is a very unethical way of doing business and it is not condoned on this site.

I think $14 is low. I earn $18 an hour
and have been paid over $16 for the past 5 years. I realize many do not make that much, but if you have lots of QA experience particularly in difficult areas such as ESLs and ops, all work types, etc., one should not take less than $16. I work at home with benefits.
Thank you! My thoughts exactly. I earn more
than that but if I could not get it, I would not do the work.
I agree with that - you do have to earn it
I am with a great company, and I work my tail off. I absolutely love what I do for a lot of reasons. I was introduced to this by a neighbor years ago and found the whole thing very interesting. Working at home is a huge bonus, so I got the education and experience. I have had a couple of experiences where I have left a job and most of that was simply due to not having the work. We rely on my income and I think that a lot of our fellow MTs really do want a when i feel like it job. Then again, those people just make the diligent hard workers look that much better!

I am not an old timer by any means but I know MTs with double my experience who are constantly offered low wages simply because they have built a reputation and/or tested poorly.

I get paid very well and the company knows that. I am an IC but I work every day consistently. When extra help is needed, I do it. This board really is just like walking into a hospital -- you can immediately tell the difference between the nurses who went into it because they are caring and want to help others and those who went into it for the money. You can tell the MTs who went into it because they find the work challenging and want to contribute to good patient care and those who simply wanted something convenient for them.
MQ looking to earn a living
With ASR making money is getting tougher and tougher. Years of transcription experience counts for nothing here.

I would rather work on 1 account and make more money, than 5 different ones! No thanks. sm
I think their new program absolutely sucks and there are a heck of a lot of people who say the sound quality is horrendous. I wasn't sticking around to find out. I made my decision as soon as I saw what it was about and knew it would slow me way down. Hey, to each their own. If you like it, fine. I am happy about my decision and glad I did it.

    MT work losing money daily
With the no raise and line count these services pay, 1 report with a difficult ESL doctor who makes a lot of money can end up with the TX making 3/hr. Illegal aliens make more so hospitals seem to hire interpreters now at 50/hr or more and thick accented doctors seem to not care to learn English and the Transcriptionist leaves holes for Editor - if someone else feels like learning their language - be my guest, but I have to feed a family and make some money in this dying paid profession. If I received 50/hr or 12 cpl, I would try to decipher but for 4 years .0825 and I cannot. I am not an interpreter. Starting to hate my job lately. No money. I see illegals with cell phones, nice apartments and yet they won't learn English and I struggle working 14 hours a day or more just with maybe a little food. The job is not an easy one but the pay is less than picking fruit in a field.
Companies have to earn loyalty (sm)
Besides, all prospective employees go through a background check.  It's not like these MTSOs are completely in the dark.  I cannot believe (or can I?) that some companies ask for people's screen names to monitor stuff they say on a message board.  If they're that petty and paranoid, there's good reason for it, and I betcha dollars to donuts it has *absolutely* nothing to do with MT attitudes.  If anyone is spilling inappropriate information here, there's a moderator to take care of that.

BTW, now that I'm happy with my company, I am loyal.  In fact, I'm so positive that when *I* post on here about my job, people often give me this oh, stuff it, Polyanna attitude.

The only thing that could possibly get me to leave is the promise of all that money getting my own accounts would bring.  I don't think I'd like to deal with all the hassle involved, though...but if someone had a Powerpoint presentation to convince me it was easy as fallin' off a log, I'd be very interested!
Any companies out there in which one can earn $500 per week or more?
    Just curious
See the TransRAD ad for 7 cpl? No one can earn a living on that! If you see this

Amherst so we make less money and they get more money for MQ and bigger bonuses. Our guidelines came
    from Amherst.

I'll love to know who you work for. I also work every weekend with no extra pay.
It'd be nice to get paid for all the nights and weekends I work.
No, you won't make more money unless you do triple the work load. sm
Instead of transcribing 1200 to 2000 lines a day, you will need to edit 4000 to 5000 lines a day.

That is very difficult most days, the most I did, and this is with 5 years experience, was 3800 a day, and that is not consistent.

So, 3800 lines x what are you being paid 5 cpl = $190. I have to tell you 3800 lines of editing a day is tough to do most days. I had days where I could barely get 2000 done. It all depends on how recognized the dictator is and how many small errors are in the report.

I just spent about the last 5 years doing work I hate because the money -sm
was so good. Which is more important to you? Sounds to me like you'd rather take the one with the type of work you enjoy more. It didn't hurt me to do that work all that time. The money was so good, it made it seem more enjoyable. Isn't it so nice though that you have a choice!
Money not worth dreading doing the work, feeling
Personally, I won't settle for just anything in MT. I decided instead of letting offshore companies abuse my services, I would turn the table and use them to MY advantage.  The offshore co I still work for, I have a few accts that I make good money, too bad there isnt 8 hours a day of work to these acct. I asked to be taken off accts that were not money makers.  I looked long and hard to find another company with a platform I love, work with assigned accts, no pools, great support (which is a rare thing in my experience) and a polite, helpful qa.  This company wants to help MTs do great because that means the company will do great, something offshore co. don't get.  Oh yeah, this new company is US owned.
I am on a new account, doing work types I cant make money on. nm

No need to look. Sending 90% of the work offshore has put money in the bank for me. sm
It has lowered my stress level. I work half the hours I used to. Unfortunately for those of you that have your heads in the sand, there are options for companies now that do not include putting up with what we had to for years from MT's. My accounts are happy because the turnaround times are better than ever and the quality is about the same. The offshore companies have improved greatly in the past 10 years and the quality for some of them is the same or better than some in-house departments. Even my customers are amazed when they realize this.

I tell my customers that the work is being done offshore and guess what? THEY DO NOT CARE! They just want it done fast, done right and at a lower cost. They are happy and refer us to other hospitals who also DO NOT CARE THAT IT IS BEING SENT OFFSHORE.

You are fooling yourselves if you think hospitals will not use a service if they send work overseas.

I just wish I had done this 10 years ago instead of 3.

If you think I can't sleep at night, you're wrong. Quite the opposite. I don't feel bad about sending work out of the country because I am now providing money to someone who might otherwise starve.

As Americans, we do not know what it is like to truly be hungry or need shelter. If we did, we might appreciate what we have a lot more. I certainly do now and to be honest, I am happy not to have to listen to every whine and ailment of transcriptionists and excuses all day long. I KNOW the work is getting done.
Yes. I earn almost $40,000 working 32 hours a week. nm
    nm
Well I do earn a pretty decent salary
and I am not talking anything under $50,000. I have heard of some of you recruiters who earn $30,000. I would not do it at all for that. I know one woman who earns $58,000 as a recruiter. I know another who earns $42,000. I know another who is paid per head and I won't do it because that forces you to hire anyone.

For what I earn, yesI will keep an open phone line to an excellent potential employee.

Oh yeah, I forgot.  A lot of other countries don't hand jobs to offshore entities at the expense of their own countrymen.   Btw, what country are YOU from?
Do you find that you are able to earn a good income with them?

She is talking about QA and money is not tops. It is line pay for junk work.
They need to pay by the hour like they used to.
I recommend Keystrokes too. I make great money, have a lot of work and have sm
been around the block a time or two.

I have worked for them for 6 months but had worked for them previously (in 2003). I left for several reasons but all of them have been resolved. I think a big part of the improvement is due to direct deposit and the office. When I worked for them before, the owner ran things from her home office but now there is an office that has a lot (not sure how many) people in it and I can get answers and help quickly when I need it.

I think that they had some growing pains but resolved them. I know that they are still growing, even faster than ever from what my lead tells me. If you have a lot of hospital experience, they are hiring for two new accounts and need good MTs.

No, I wouldn't go back. I lost too much money there ALWAYS running out of work (sm)
There were days at MQ I would type 2 reports during my shift, and I had a LOT of accounts in my pool!  A friend of mine who started at the same time I did with MQ is still there and she is always out of work. I just can't take the chance.
Venting- how can you make money or get line counts when all the work is given to someone else!
Nothing seems fair anymore.  Does anyone else ever have this happen?
Love, love, love TransTech! Not overhiring, just growing like crazy!

You wont make any money with them. Expect to get ripped out. The hospital they do work for should...
be ashamed to sent their work to Indian companies like treat their employees like crap. You can bet the hospital pays full price, but once the MTs get their part, it is minimal. Dont go there!!
I am glad to hear that a lot of money can be made with MT work. This gives me hope for the future.

I have dial-up and make money. I download my work and I can start transcribing

as soon as the first report has downloaded.  Once I download I disconnect, do my work, then connect and send my completed work.   I usually start my download in the morning then go take my shower, feed all the animals, grab myself something to drink and I'm ready to go.   Once the work is downloaded what type of connection you have doesn't matter.

Sure it is safe to post your resume on the net, provided it is a reputable site.  I would not just post it anywhere, but post it on the job boards here and other reputable sites.   Most sites have some type of safeguards in place so that you have to have registered with the site and/or paid a usage fee to view information like addresses and phone numbers, so that not just anyone can view the information.

Another option may be an account that has C-phone or similar accounts, where you aren't downloading, but dialing directly into the system.
