I agree that it is up to Congress and there is stiff opposition, but I wholeheartedly disagree with your last paragraph.  There is NOT a shortage of American MTs.  Ther is a shortage of American MTs that are willing to work for the wages the industry is trying to force down our throats with the premise that in order to keep our jobs we have to be competitive with the rates for off-shoring.  Have you heard the figures that are being announced regarding the dollar value of all these offshore tax loopholes??  It's staggering.

Have you been reading the posts lately coming from good, qualified MTs scrambling for work because the workloads at several companies is extremely low and has been for a while?  How could the workload be so low with a shortage of American MTs?  The shortage of American MTs is a myth propagated by MTSOs as a tool to drive the industry standard line rate down and an excuse to use offshoring to do it.  Do you actually think all of the press reports from AIHD are going to say that there is a shortage of American MTs who are willing to work for 6 or 7 cpl for straight transcription?  Noooo.  If that is what the industry standard is for a lot of companies now, it's no wonder they can't find American MTs.  But the MTSOs CREATED the industry standard, now they try to blame the MTs for creating a shortage.
