First, if the reason that there's a shortage of people is the wage, the proposed tax change will either have absolutely no impact on that or might have a tertiary NEGATIVE impact on it.

Second, the reason that MTSO's don't pay more is, at least in part, because clients refuse to pay more. The tax law has nothing to do with this.

Stop and think about it. No MTSO enjoys having to fight continuously to fill their positions.

Put another way, it doesn't serve any business to voluntarily put itself in a position where it can't pay a wage that will allow it to both retain good people and easily attract new ones. I have very little doubt that if all of the clients suddenly woke up tomorrow, realized that they're paying crap line rates and that it's having a negative effect on everyone - including themselves - and would pay 5 cents more a line, you'd see a lot of that showing up in MT line rates.

Companies would love to be able to solve their hiring problems instantly if they could wave a magic wand and increase the line rates they pay. This situation starts with the bean-counters who have taken over the healthcare providers (clients) in our industry.

Third, I can state emphatically that even if there were higher line rates there would still, indeed, be a shortage of all but the worst and/or newest MTs. This is because a great deal of the attrition from our profession has been due to the aging of the MT population, not the line rates.
