Did you get hired? Those of us that have applied many times

I live in Montana and applied with a company in Missoula..sm
but turned out to be not what I expected.  Very old school and low pay.  What would you like to know?
I've applied with them THREE times and have never received a response - sm
and it's not because I don't have experience. I had been with Brand X National for 8 years (you can probably figure out who) when I applied with Spheris, and I never got a response. Sent a second ap, nada. Third ap, still nothing.

Through this whole time period Spheris had want ads scattered all over the net. I'll never, ever understand why they didn't get in touch with me. Their loss....I'm now working for a local company and completely satisfied.
How many times do I have to reply??? lol Third time.

Trust me I do work for the money regardless of what account I am on.  I am tired of writing this just to reply to that one response I got lol.  I is not showing up on the thread.  HERE I GO AGAIN....

Producing:  I produce extremly high lines counts without the help of a progam such as IT and I get surpising remarks on it such as I bow down before you from coworkers which is one example.  So, I think I am doing well in that regard.  I consitently produce 160-170 lines an hour and always improving little by little, again, all without the help of a program.

QA:  My QA has not dropped below 99% in quite some time and consistently is 100% on a pretty regular basis with 5 being pulled almost daily with so many lines I produce (I work overtime constantly).

Lastly:  I am referring to jumping through hoops because that is exactly what it is.  I am not talking about being put on a harder account to improve myself and my skills which would be great.  I know and have spoken to a level 2 (with 17 years experience in acute care) who works 5 different accounts a day consistently and rarely gets her primary account and only for a whopping 7.5 cpl.  I could make that just by staying where I am at level 1 there.  I know also this is true becaue I enquired on how to get to the next step because I foolishly thought I was ready, haha haha.  Boy was I wrong.  I would have to learn 2 different accounts and 1 backup and any other account that would need me.  That already sounds to me like I would be losing money.

Finally:  I thought that just by being great where I am would constitute some kind of gratitude or reward without jumping through hoops.  I am sure there is such a thing of a company thinking you are doing a great job and people actually get raisees for doing the same thing they have always done.  Just not this profession I guess.

Thanks for all the great advice other than the advice that I was working less and wanted more and with no goals of wanting to be anything more.  Trust me I could work no harder for them and I will continue to do so until I find something that recognizes what a great job I do and even then I will keep them part time.  I love the people there and even my account, but I refuse to be told I am not working hard enough.

PS:  I tested for Transcend with a hard account and the recruiter quoted I passed every test and did great.  But, the down side was they only offered me 7 cpl which is more than I make now only by 0.5 cnts and it would not be worth switching for that and it is also a lot more than I got hired in at Spheris, so I think that proves I have grown with such little experience and have a nack for the field.

You all are great and give great advice.  Thanks for all the replies.  This had better go through this time.  I cannot write this for a 4th time.

Used to need a Cphone for there. I never got a reply the 2x I applied. nm

That I am with Medware, they treat me fair and keep me in work.  The line rate is higher that MQ where I spent 4 years, the insurance coverage at Medware is $17/week for United Healthcare, the incentive plan is attainable, we get direct deposit every other Friday.  They treat you fairly.  Sometime I wish I did not read this board, but I still believe there are those who are looking for a better company and ask for information.  I happen to like working for Medware.  Calling someone an idiot is rude, I guess one must consider the source.  Time to go to work.

I've applied to a few with over 25 years' exp. in
thinking of trying that next time I apply. (And THEN asking for what my work is really worth!) Because even if I only had a few years on the job as an MT, if I'm proficient at it, then there's no reason to settle for chump-change pay. And that's all most MTs get these days. And what happens if your MTSO improves its software and your line count goes up substantially? Then they feel justified in lowering the cpl they're paying. I think the MT business is the most bizarre, dishonest industry this country has, outside of the tobacco industry.
I applied a few years back
..... what an experience.  I have been a psych Transcriptionist for 20 years.  I tested, with basically no instructions.  I formated the report as I would my other psych reports.  No errors as far as terminology, English, punctuation, etc.  However, she said I did not follow directions (what directions?????) as far as my formating went.  She said if I could not follow directions she would not hire me.  She is a trip.  I wouldn't work for her for all the money in the world.
No, my check has been late 2 times in 3 years, PO fault, not StatIQ's.
I don't think you have to worry in the least that they are not paying you. I guarantee it has been lost in the mail. Please do call them. The times mine has been late, I have called and always been told if it is a week late to tell them and they will re-write a check and send it. They want to know if you don't receive it.
I had applied but they offered 7 cpl for 14 years experience..I said NO...
That's about all I know. I cant remember what kind of work it was either, but I wouldnt do clinic or acute care for that low pay.

Yeah I had applied for the Escription account (before I knew the insulting pay rate) with years of
experience and no one bothered to get back to me. Once they told me what they paid, I would have never accepted anyway, but I find it odd that they would not pursue someone with years of experience. I guess they knew there would be no one I would accept their pay. Apparently, they are hoping some desperate people apply, which is NOT me but best wishes to them.

In REPLY TO: What do you call 6.5 cents?? - Geeze, when I started out 15 years ago, I made 8 c
6.5 was the offer for one place and the second offer was 9 cents. I chose the second offer :). Rough out there indeed! There are even places paying per report now... I saw 75 cents, $1.10, $1.15 and $1.25. Ain't good for Rad.
I don't know where you live but where I live foreclosures are rising and there are no jobs -- non
I worried about my employer for part of the winter as my accounts grew sparse. I had plan to switch to being an employee with benefits but dared not make the switch in this economy (this was last year this time, got it?)
I figured keeping my seniority was worth whatever security it afforded.

My accounts have rebounded some and I can pay my bills.

By economizing seriously, I have paid off my credit card and put some money aside, just in case. I'm breathing easier, thanks.

So, all in all, I'm not complaining. This last winter was brutal, but I had a job and I paid my bills. When employment rebounds and/or national health goes into effect, people will go to the doctor again and we will be busy.

My part of the world is like a ghost town -- everyone who could left to find work in the city -- many apparently leaving their homes to the banks. Several houses in my vicinity have been on the market more than 4 years.

Forgive me my loyalty ... it pays the bills.

What does yelling at the rest of us do for you?
A lot of times, if they need extra help, they will over 1-1/2 times our regular rate. sm
This is the equivalent of OT but you get it even if you have not done 40 hours already. I have also received AmerExp gift cards a few times for incentives offered. I think it depends on the account.

I do know for sure that they are working on an incentive program but I have no details and not even sure if they are still looking at it.

I do know for sure that I make more $$ with Keystrokes than I have ever made anywhere else.
Can I asked when you applied? I applied a few weeks ago
and never heard a word and I have over 16 years of experience. I applied because I got a recommendation from a friend of a friend who loves working there..Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get anymore details other than that.  I'm all for even one positive at this point on this frustrating job search. Good luck to you though and check back with us to tell us how the interview went etc. Thanks
It depends on where you live. If you live in their
service area it would be cheaper than outside their service area.   I only have rates for out of service area and medical is  139.13 for family or 168.42 depending on what plan you choose.  Dental is 20.85 for family, vision is 5.13.  These are per pay period.

Individual coverage would be 44.79/54.21 medical, 7.99 dental, and 1.71 vision.

I opted out of insurance as we have through my husband's job.  I believe  the cheaper insurance is a 70/30 plan and the more expensive an 80/20, not sure about co-pays.  Deductibles are $2000 for family, not sure about individual.
whups - sorry, reply to wrong "who wants to be" reply
if I only had a brain...

Again, sorry to BTDT.
No. I applied, but I've applied SM

at a lot of places lately.  I got an e-mail from a lady whose name starts with an M, but she didn't identify her company in the letter.  She had my resume on the bottom of her e-mail, so I know it's someone I applied with, but I don't know which one!!  LOL  I'm thinking it's The Word Pros.  Anyone else apply to The Word Pros and get an e-mail from M?

I'd love to hear information about them as well.

I talked to them today. They want 3 years in a hospital or 5 years combination sm
hospital and at home or clinic and at home. For radiology, they want 3 years full time radiology. I thought they were very nice and I have a few friends that work for them and are happy. The pay seems average to high for what I am seeing now. I think they are 0.08 per line or 1.08 for radiology. Beats what I will have with the new MQ program.

Yes, I used to live near them.

There was a recent post at this link.  http://forum.mtstars.com/company/v/1/7698.html

And a post from 2004 stating that they were disorganized.

don't know but u live elsewhere than me....sm

When I go soliciting more private work (rarity), I expect exactly what I charge today and for the past 10 years; have never raised my rates. I chose my rate by what was/is usual and customary in the area where I live and what other fellow MTs charge.  No complaints thus far, but I live in and around a couple of huge cities, and I do charge 12 cpl, promising 24-48 TAT, with close to 3 decades experience.  Best luck to you !!

Anyone here live in PA???
side of the state and wondering if anyone could tell me of some good neighborhoods to move into; anywhere between Stroudsburg and Philly.  Thanks everyone!
Where I live
pretty much all jobs require a background check and the potential employers pay for them. I have had to have a background check for every job I have applied for here. It really wasn't a big deal.
if that is all it is, i can live with that;
I will just remember to get it in on time.

I believe you have to live near SM
the hospital to reap the full benefits of the insurance.

Others have stated they cannot use the hospital insurnance and that there is little work, due to over-hiring.
I live in s/m
NW Arkansas (Wal-Mart country).  There are craft fairs and festivals just about every weekend.  Near Eureka Springs where the whole town is made up of gift shops and tourism is about their only industry.  Lots of wealthy tourists willing to pay $5000 to $10000 for a quilt.  Yes, I meant to add that many zeros.  Nice gourd birdhouses they'll pay $150 or more for.  30% commission still leaves a nice hefty profit.
Where do you live?
and what sort of experience is your 14 years in? I work for a hospital that is looking to hired experienced MTs right now... some leads, but still some possible openings. What state/city are you in?

I worked for a service, then for a hospital. My hospital experience is totally positive. I wouldn't go back. Just my 2 cents worth. Hope you find something!
Where do you live?

maybe it depends where you live,
it was in the regular mail. Corporate is in the northeast and so am I. Maybe that's why I got mine and you are waiting.
live s/b life (nm)

it helps if you put where you live - sm
you stated microcassettes accounts - so more than likely maybe something nearby or a hospital that perhaps still dictates the old fashioned way - (AND YES, THERE ARE HOSPITALS THAT DO STILL USE TAPES!!)

so whereabouts do you live
how do you live off 800$ a month?
x
Depending on where you live (sm)
this could be a very good position for you. The people I used to supervise (pathology transcriptionists in-house) made about $15-19 per hour depending on how long they had been there. This is in Southern California, though, where employers will pay a little more when transcriptionists are scarce.
Depends on where you live
It sounds like you live in an area where there is a moderate cost of living. Here in the Bay Area, $15 an hour for an MT in any specialty/area is unheard of. Most start at $22 an hour for 1+ years experience. Well, this is what needed -- plus a lot more -- to pay $2,000 a month for rent or purchase a $600,000 two-bedroom house.
Re: Depends on where you live.
In the East Bay, say Albany, El Cerrito, Pinole, El Sobrante, and there are some very nice areas in Richmond (despite the news/press coverage), even all the way out to Vallejo and Fairfield. But for Berkeley, San Francisco, Marin, the West Bay, and the South Bay - forget about it!! All depends on where you like to live and what you can afford. If you are looking for Marin or Walnut Creek-type neighborhoods, then you will pay $1 million for a two-bedroom house. If you are looking for more modest, but still nice neighborhoods like those above, then you will find what you are looking for in the East Bay.
