I was paid by the hour to work from home for a large hospital. nm

Is $15.00 per hour without incentive worth driving back and forth to a job at a hospital? nm
NM
100,000/year - no way. I charge $35/hour and work 10 hour days - sm
AND I DO NOT CLEAR $100,000/YEAR.

what's not to believe - I said that I charge $35/hour and work 10 hour days AND DO NOT MAKE - sm
I DO NOT MAKE $100,000/YEAR

try READING the post.
First for hospital, then outsourced still on same hospital work
and believe it or not, the hospital was so much easier. Had worked at the hospital for 11 years before they outsourced and then worked another 3+ years for the company they outsourced to. What a difference! The company had so many rules and regulations you could hardly keep up with them all, thousands of them, on the same account, mind you. The higher ups would not leave you alone, constant IMs about any and all. I have gotten to the age where I do not need all that and walked the other week. Have scheduled testing with another hospital for this month. Hope I make the cut, love the hospital work 1000 times more than a company.
Like I said - it depends who you work for. I work for a hospital at home - not a company. nm

oh no, what is the quota for the day? Please let
us know if it was a mistake, thanks.
QA quota
When I worked at Amphion, we were expected to do 100 reports per 8-hour shift. Most often I did at least 80 which could be a stretch depending on what else was going on so I understand your concern.
I also work for a co. with 24 hour TAT
This one has around 100 employees.
The most I have ever gone w/o work is about 1 hour (sm)
and I have been there 2 years, and no I am not management.
Only out of work for maybe an hour a day right now

This is the slow period. Most MT's know this. After working 9 1/2 years at a hospital, this happened there, too. Don't get in a tizzy. Once it picks up, you'll not be able to breathe.

One year at TT and this is a breath of fresh air to me after working all the hours I did. Sure, I need the money, but it can be made up later, so I'm not worried, and I don't think the naysayers answering should worry either. Soon you'll all be complaining of TOO MUCH work.

TT Rocks.

If I was going to work for $10/hour
I would pick something a lot less stressful...like flippin' burgers.  Maybe a greeter at Wally World.
OTI gives you a weekly quota. sm
You work when you want during the week. They ask you to commit to one weekend day.

Furthermore, I was on only one account, and worked that same account every day. The work was plentiful. Since I wasn't hopping around on various accounts, I customized everything and made a zillion macros. It was very good for money.

It was the best job I ever worked. I had to leave because I needed benefits.
DSG - QA, line quota, how they pay Qs

Questions for DSG QA folks.  Do they pay per hour or by line?  I heard someone say by the line, but then someone else say they had to give feedback.  I have never worked for someplace that paid you by the line AND expected you to give feedback also.   If it is by the line, do they have a daily quota?

Thanks

cannot make quota

Has anybody out there ever used all accessible shortcuts, typed steadily, and seen after a grueling 8, 9, 10 hours lines equalling approx 77 per hour?    I refuse to think myself as doing something wrong:  Just want to hear from ANYBODY who has done what s/he can, yet finds him/herself always unable to meet productivity.  I am at a crossroads right now so it is a good time to leave transcription, but I cannot believe my forays into at-home land yield the same results:  exhaustion, impossible quotas, and the sneaking suspicion that the nearly-industry-wide policy of not paying for headers is cruel, immoral, and unethical--CONSIDERABLE quality time is spent on getting this info right, and what automatically populates must often be, umm, massaged by our exhausted fingers.  I would love to hear any comments from anybody about how they met productivity.  I would need to increase by almost 100% in order to barely tread water:  I cannot do it.  Just wondering how all you VERY hard-working people survive.  Wish there were an emoticon for throwing in the towel.

can't make quota
I can't make mine, either. A 15-16 minute dication will only yield me about 100 lines. I'm fed up, but scared to death to leave this field and embark on a new career at my age.
Yes I cannot meet my quota
Hope we pick up soon
39 hour work week
is what it says. Sorry, 39 not 40 for those counting.
24 hour window to do work?
Are there companies who do not require a strict schedule to get your work done, so you have a little flexibility to work your hours in a day?
I'm averaging an hour of work a day
If you have been hired as a transcriptionist, I hope you know you have to wait a month and a half to get paid. I have two accounts with almost no work.
I currently work a 12 hour window.
nm
Only ran out of work for 1 hour after Labor Day. (sm)
Usually always work in primary, if not secondary and tertiary kick right in and seem to be plentiful.

For those new hires or people considering TT, ask the recruiter and she will let you know if they are hiring in anticipation of another new account or not. That should help alleviate your worries.

It's a great company, well worth riding the slight ups and downs with.
As ICs at the hospital I used to work at ...
you got a contract for 2500 minutes monthly at $1.50 a minute. All minutes past 2500 in the month were $1.75.

Same here, no hospital work.....:(
Bills to pay and no work....
Hospital work
I do think spring breaks are playing a part in this. I work a few independent accounts and half of my docs are out this week. I also think the situation is made worse because of the services overhiring due to ridiculously promised turn around times. In the case of the account I work on for a service, the client expects and contracted for H&Ps guaranteed back in 2 hours, but on the other hand, no guarantee from them regarding the volume of business. A win-win situation for all but the MT.

hospital work
I was working for a group of hospitals managed by one company. Therefore, I had about 300 different doctors to transcribe for. Other than radiology, you never knew who would be coming up next. It really is just a matter of what you get used to.
Hospital work
I'm in Georgia - don't know if this is the Tri-State you are talking about, but would like to apply. Would you mind emailing me with info?

Hospital work - sm
Come on people - do your foot work and search. These positions are out there, you just need to search.

Cooper Hospital in NJ was looking for at home MTs for Radiology - don't know if that was filled.

Baptist Health in Texas hires @home MTs.

The one in GA has been filled.

The hospital I work for

I am not sure what it means for us yet.  I did work for an MTSO part-time for 6 months.  The hospital had better pay and a much better benefit package.  Another benefit is that I am familiar with the territory.  I don't have to google every nursing home, hospital, doctor's clinics, doctors name in the area as I am familair with them and their specialities.  I hope that makes sense.

Hospitals can be unsteady.  I have worked for 2 different ones.  The first one was going to shut down but that didn't happen, then it was going to merge with another hospital, that did not happen but it gave us a great scare a few times.   The same thing with the one I am working at now.  It was going to merge with another hospital.  They opened a surgery center and that took away some of our work.   Now they wre saying they are going to go to VR.  It is not here yet but they are seriously talking about it.

KS - Does anybody work of the hospital (sm)

that we have not been able to work in for several hours now due to their internet problem?  I'm new - how often does this happen?  Is this rare?  I sure hope so!

Thanks!

I work for the hospital... sm
And we have vendors. Because we are paid hourly, it's only fair that we are kept busy.

QA is not a step up. They make less than the MTs and are on quota.
x
Most companies require a certain quota be met
Even as an IC I committed myself to 180 reports a day. I do anywhere from 180-225. I did not sign a contract but did commit to it.
I too made quota immediately
!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for your help, but I don't think I could ever meet the quota needed. sm

I am working all the time editing/fixing and trying to remember all the rules for each account.  I do not see with the way the platform is ever being able to make the amount needed to keep my insurance, and they have already extended my insurance for me before.  I thought when I started doing more editing I might be able to get more lines, but then I would have to do double the lines, and with the way the reports are looking when I see them there is too much fixing to ever get there.  It looks like when the computer does not know what the doctor is saying in plain English it just types whatever it wants.  It is actually amusing how it comes up with a whole sentence of unrelated words.

THANKS! Now as soon as I make my line quota
and can afford something other than thrift stores or Walmart I WILL check them out. LOL

Seriously, thanks for the link. I will keep it.
Nationals with 10- to 12-hour window to work 8 hrs?
I did a search in the archives, but the info I found was a little outdated. Thanks for any help you can provide.
24-hour time frame to do work
What are some companies out there who allow a 24-hour frame in which to return work, no set hours, but a minimum line count requirement within a specified time frame.  Thanks in advance.
I have work - started an hour late, though.
nm
if your take home is $6.50/hour and your doing quality MT work...sm
sweetness, it's time for you to find another profession. You can go flip burgers with bennies for that pay. This is an example of why our pay scale is so low. There are those MTs who are willing to work for peanuts. One should never make this low wage in this profession. You must either have to do a lot of researching because you lack medical terminology knowledge, or the company you are working for is putting the screws to you. I truly feel sorry that you find are willing to do this. Good luck to you.
there is NO WAY I would work for 9 bucks an hour!!! What is the email
address??? I would LOVE to email them and tell them how crazy they are!!!
I have to work 8-hour strict schedule SM
Platform is either Chartmatrix or Enterprise, average pay, the company is just average all around.  It's not horrible but it also isn't great.  Up until 6 months ago I would have recommended to give them a try, but they have started this downhill slide, feels more like Spheris now.  I have felt this for the last 6 months.  When the job market opens up a bit more I'm going to look around.
Do you work a straight 8-hour schedule?
On a good day when there is a lot of work available, I can make about $120 in 5 hours.  Plus that 5 hours is when 'I' want to do it throughout the day.  On an average day, I make about the same amount of money in about 6 to 6-1/2 hours.  Since I have been doing this job for so many years, my old body can't take sitting and typing for an extended period of time.  I really don't know if I could handle working 8 hours a day anymore.
Hospital Account Work
Go to mtdaily.com and check on their jobs page. There are numerous. Diskriter has issues; be careful. Of course, all places of employment have those, but some you have to be very careful with. It is great to work at home, and there are some great employers. If you don't need benefits, I'd suggest working as an independent contractor as you can set your own hours. However, if you need more discipline and the benefits, working for a national company might be great for you. Good luck.
regarding hospital employee work - sm
again, as posted previously, it really depends on what state you live in. What state do you live in??? There are quite a few hospitals that although they do not advertise, they do hire transcriptionists from around the state.

As for Diskriter, and any company for that matter, please do not believe everything you read on this board. It reads like the National Enquirer for Transcription. For every good thing a poster might say about a company, there will be five people (or who knows, maybe it's the same poster over and over again), saying bad things.

Just because one company is not a good fit for a few transcriptionists, does not mean that every Transcriptionist should run. Sometimes these are really bad transcriptionists that were let go, or maybe they are great transcriptionists that were dealt a lousy deal by the transcription service.
I work at home as IC for hospital...
Stay put.  After 10 years of working at home for this hospital with no raise, I decided to venture out and try other MTSOs.  Good thing I kept my hospital job.   I usually do 200-250 lines an hour with the hospital but other MTSOs I was down to 120-150.  Mostly it is the different dictators and I can't stand leaving blanks so I would listen over and over to try to get them.  Then the styles of what this one wants and what that one wants also differs tremendously.  Stay where you are and maybe talk to the hospital about possibly doing at least some days at home.
I work for a small hospital...
which is going through some changes (selling out to another organization).  My question to you is what area are you in.  I have been trying to get an hourly rate for my area for a while now and can not get an answer.  I also get paid per minute, not production per se,  just a certain amount for every minute of dictation I do.  I do the basic four which also includes radiology and psychiatry.  A little over a third of my work is radiology.  Please e-mail me.
I work for a hospital and it happened to me.
after I had my baby.  I finally made my way back home.   They also tried to do it  to another pregnant woman and she quit.
Yes they do on everyone, just hired, work for them, not hospital.(nm)

JLG did work for our local hospital when I was there.
They charged us $3.50 a line. I saw the contract. I was shocked. We paid ICs $1.50 a line. And the work was horrible. Everytime they uploaded reports, 2 of us spent most of the day correcting them. After about 6 months, we fired them.
