I work there and things apparently have changed since you were there.

Not all the people you named are still there nor is the dental plan Delta. It is Guardian. Insurance is excellent.

Now, they hire employees and not ICs. They do that for a reason. They can better schedule and meet TATs that way. I think employee status warrants meeting your hours, but what I do know is that they do allow some flexibility and if you need it, all you need to do is say it as long as it is not 12-hr flexibility. If you have to run out and get the kids, tell them.

This company is a good company. The people are quite nice. Their QA staff is good. They do follow the BOS to a tee.

It's a personal choice, but if someone did not at least check them out, I think they are missing out. They are very good. Best QA staff I have ever worked with.

My how things have changed. I am now drowning in work from
the new clients, I guess, and they are bringing on two more this week.  Hip, hip, hooray!  Might even get a bonus!!!
Unless things have changed drastically, they are NOT nice to work for.
You will get calls at all hours to work, mostly because no one has enough sense to realize that there is a big time difference between the east coast where they are and the west coast where I am. I routinely got calls from Rose between 4 and 5 a.m. to see why I was not working when my schedule was for 7 a.m. pacific time. The accounts were awful. And the recruiter is just that - do not believe all the praise and glory she heaps out. She may be sweet but don't fall for her line of bs.
Unless things have changed, no, you have to sn
use the Bayscribe spellcheck.
I see things have NOT changed there!
SOS - same old stuff, different company.
Maybe things have changed
for the better since the buyout last year. But, what you describe is not what they sent me in their information packet.
things have changed...
They did have Future Net when I was there, which is the best platform the have, but they had other accounts there were still on the old DOS Word Perfect, which seemed weird to me. Anyway, the ASR must be new. There was slso a lot of game playing going on when I was there, which is an understatement, and I will just leave it at that!
things have changed...
I had been with Focus since May and there were the American employees, as far as MTs and staff, but most of the team leaders were Indian and I am sure they had the Indian MTs as well.  In May 2008 all the American MTs received letters that they were bought by Nuance and that all ICs would have to become employees.  Just recently, all of the Indian team leads have been let go, so I am not sure what this means, but it does not appear that they are Indian owned anymore.  The funny thing is prior to this a whole American QA team had been let go, so very confusing.  The Indian team leads are being replaced with American tead leads now.  I had no problem with having Indian team leads, as they were great to work with and respected our work.  I did not have a bad experience at Focus during my time there, but the changes going on now are confusing and I am curious how things will turn out.  They were my first company, so I wish them the very best.
I hope things have changed -sm
I worked for Edix too, and although I know some people weren't treated well there, I felt I really was. I had a really great supervisor. I just wasn't able to make money with that system. It was too slow, so I left after only 3 months.
Well, things have obviously changed in the last couple...sm
of years since you have been gone. Didn't seem to me that the right hand knew what the left hand was doing and just horribly disorganized. Sad testimonial of what is going on in the MT field as well as all over the US in all fields!
Things have changed since my last post right above yours here.
I let them know I was not making money and they started training all over again on a different account. I did not want to start all over again so I went full-time with probably the best company on this board and won't look back. Forget about struggling, and just putting up with something as I mentioned above this post (right above yours here), accept nothing but the best... and don't settle no matter what you do. No job is perfect, but there are managers who don't cheat as well. Go for the ones who don't cheat. Good luck to you.
Maybe things changed since I quit there because I refused to buy
the equipment. It is not just a router, it has to be a Cisco router, Cisco modem, etc. And don't fall on the floor when you see the length of the gross lines, lol.
I am so sorry to hear that!! Hope things have changed
for your sake:( Terrible co. IMO
Very happy when I first started but things have changed -
I believe they have overhired and all the accounts are running out of work. There is a lot of demographic stuff to do too so that slows you down a lot. Pay per line isn't great but they do pay PTO in a fair way and I like the platform they use. All in all I'm still happy if they weren't running out of work -I will just have to wait and see how that goes.
You're welcome. As I said, this was 5 years ago or so. Things could have changed. sm

I would just be careful.  They used to have a woman in the office named Crystal.  I would call and tell her I had run out of work, and she would just laugh and tell me to take the day off!  How nice ... except that I needed the money.  In all fairness, though, I am sure they could not have stayed in business and kept employees if they kept on that way.  I read awhile back that if you pay $20 each check or something like that that they will Fed Ex your check to you, so maybe they are trying, although I don't think you should have to pay for it.

Good luck in finding something.  I know what it is like to be the sole source of income.

so your point may be that things haven't changed.
nm
Did any of you try emailing or calling D herself? Perhaps things have changed sm

since I worked there, but it used to be you could talk to her and she would listen and make things right if she could.  Maybe she is not as much involved in those things anymore and it is mostly C handling things.  It just seemed worth a shot.  It is sad to see so many people unhappy and scared for their livelihoods.

Good luck.

That's a shame. It sounds like things have really changed. sm

I was there for 5 years and always thought that D really cared about providing enough work for everyone.  Maybe all of the industry changes have caught up there too.  I hope things turn around for you and everyone else.  Although I do not have a family, I am my only source of income, and I know how scary the no-work situation can be.

Good luck!

Search the boards. Things have changed for the worse, IMO. nm

Everything I read suggests that unfortunately things haven't changed...
at that time the Suits were making promises ... like a 2-hour TAT on all WTs ... and they were willing to allocate as much manpower as possible to win the contract ... it was nuts.
Evidently things haven't changed since I left. Sounds like they've gotten worse - LOL
nm
Oops..sorry..Apparently, it's not Transcend's fault, it's the hospitals. Apparently, they d
that we were being overpaid so they changed the way our lines are counted. We will no longer get paid for footers, headers etc, and who knows what else they took out, although we still have to make sure they are all correct and make the appropriate changes and put in information.
Well apparently you don't have much work lately
LOL
Great people to work for, but I had to leave due to lack of work. Hopefully that has changed. SM
Most of us who do not live in California had to go IC. When I was there, they did not have statutory status, although they told me they did when they hired me. Their pay for VR is VERY low, not a living wage. Many of the folks in the office are ex-YOG and great to work for/with. Good luck.
Apparently, they undercut because they have MTs who work for free and the hospitals had to pay them.
I know people didnt intend on working there for free but it sounds like too many MTs didnt get paid.
apparently didn't work so well, that check she sent bounced! DMF!
sdfad
Apparently, they have contracted with India to work some accounts as they are getting paid less on
these accounts. Obviously, labor is cheaper in India. So, they have to send the work where they can afford to. I know I'm done with them. Pretty soon, there will be no jobs left because these hospitals apparently want cheap labor. You get what you pay for is all I am saying.
The owners haven't changed, MT supe hasn't changed
I've been in their office. I know the people. It is a sweat shop and you will never be paid a decent amount or get respect. You won't know which is a good or a bad day for the person you report to until you literally get yelled at.

They have to offer bonuses because their reputation is that bad and nothing has changed. You may get work that has been recorded 3 times from some of the worst accounts you could ever imagine. They take accounts no one else will touch. That hasn't changed.
I am apparently being stiffed by a woman in Virginia for vacation coverage work I did. sm

I am not sure where I go from from here.  She told me that she would pay me for invoices from 06/26 and 07/11 on 07/22 (yesterday).  When I emailed her and asked her to verify that she had indeed paid me, she read the email (you can check on AOL) and did not respond.  It is only $338, but in my world right now, that is a lot of money to lose.  I blame myself because I broke one of my rules by working for someone who did not have direct deposit, and also by waiting for over a month to get my first check.  She did pay that one, but I am thinking now it was only because she still needed me to continue working to finish out her vacation coverage.

I suppose I can file a small claims suit, although I thought someone told me that you have to go to that state to file.  She's in Virginia and I am in Colorado.  I have a friend in that area, so perhaps he could do the preliminary leg work for me for that.  I was also going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.  I thought of contacting her clients to let them know that although she is paid for her services, she does not pay others, but I am not sure if that is legal or not.

I am a bit frustrated -- mad at myself for trusting her -- and scared too because I was counting on the money.  Any ideas?

Thanks.

work when you want? unless that changed....sm
the owner is a really, really crude person....not nice at all, the threatening emails are CRAZY..how can they dictate a shift when you are ICs? I worked there for a quite a while and let me tell you, 1 year ago, that working when you want is NOT TRUE!
They changed buildings so maybe the phone number also changed...
They are still going strong...
Well sounds like nothing has changed. I work there now and it is exactly as you say.
Not sure how long I will stay.  I wonder what kind of turnover they have with the lack of work, poor sound, etc.  You would think they would get sick and tired of training new people.  Their accounts arent what I would call easy accounts to learn.  I guess it works for them or they would change their ways.  With all the complaining these hospitals they have do about things you would think they would try to keep good MTs.  I have never worked for a place with so much complaining about crazy stuff as they people do.
This is most certainly true. The work ethic has changed
And it is an old fashioned thing to stay, rather than throw away a long-term relationship or seek one out. Looking for something new and better rather than building seniority seems to be the ideal these days. I am not saying not to leave if something is wrong. Any intelligent person would do so. But to want longevity in a particular company that seems to be a thing of the past, not only in this business, but in many. Times change and people change. For me, bird in hand worth 2 in bush. :)
Used to work there. Terrible experience. They may have changed their ways, tho
xx
Have things gotten better at Amphion? Is there work now? nm
s
How are things going with Futurenet? Is there still no work> sm

Futurenet work has slowed down majorly.  Has anyone else's picked back up yet?  I thought we had new accounts coming on?  If so, are they are going to hire some people?  Does anyone know what we can expect?

Don't worry, things will work out. nm
x
I can see a lot of problems in this way of doing things. That sounds to me like everyone's work i
up for grabs so that would push those MTs that have their acccounts grabbed up go onto other accounts. If you think this doesnt affect quality I think you are totally crazy. There are a lot of people that simply cannot do a good job on accounts this way and they are very good MTs. Very bad way to do business. I am sure quality is hughly compromised. It is always always best for quality and line counts to keep people with what they know. Even the hospitals can see who is in there and they know there are a lot of unknown MTs in their accounts and if the quality goes down or a lot of work is tied up in QA those hospitals are gone to another company.
But that is why she has people who work for her, to take care of other things when she has

mmmmm

Because you keep thinking things will get better with hard work, not always.
nm
If things don't work out,, the Diskriter FL Hosp position (sm)
Pays for downtime when work runs out and benefits are pretty decent.

Glad to hear things are better. Hang in there. I know how hard it can be... this profession just isn't what it used to be.

Good luck to you!!
Maybe they dont answer because there is no work to get.Best way to avoid things I guess.
:
Just how are they to work for as far as accounts, ESLs, etc. The usual things such as how they treat
the MTs and so on.
? That's kind of a blanket statement; things are fine on the accts I work on. sm
Yes, it was slow a couple weeks ago but started picking up last week.

PS - Yes, they pay for spaces.
I've been there for years, work on the DSG1 side of things, pay on time, direct deposit, more
feedback lately.  I have always found the staff and MTs helpful and friendly.  Work does fluctuate, but if you have a few accounts, should keep you busy, also sound quality can be an issue but mostly okay.
Apparently not
I asked this same question a short time ago and no one answered. I switched from a major player to a smaller comany for that very reason, now THEY are switching to a platform. The platforms seem to provide the benefit to the MTSO, not to the transcriptionist, in my experience. Line counts drop, no more pay for headers/footers, can't use your own AutoText. It's not that I'm an old dog unwilling to change with the times, I just don't appreciate being taken advantage of.
Uh, apparently someone else did it for me. nm
x

Apparently you did, and you need one!
The last company I worked for their IT department came in on my computer and changed the IP configuration on my router so bad I had to get a new one. They shadowed in so there was nothing I could do while they were doing it. Not to mention not a single one of them could speak English and only communicated through IM - I left. To say that a high turnover rate means bad MTs is ridiculous. There are a lot of things we discover once working for a company and some of us do not feel the need to accept those things so leave.
Apparently, since many of us

work at home and cannot be present in the office for a big warm and fuzzy ''group hug''  we feel entitled to other ''stuff'' in compensation?

Group e-mails do very little for me, by way of validation.  What does mean something to me is a personal e-mail if/when I do something meritorious, above and beyond, to deserve it.  If I really push beyond my contractual obligation to help clear a backlog, work on my days off at the boss's request, do a spectacular job on a very difficult dictation and get an ''attagirl'' from QA - on those occasions, I appreciate being commended or thanked.  But a generic e-mail thanking me for not calling in sick all the time, being dependable, working the days I have agreed to work, being as accurate as I am expected to be really means nothing to me.  This just reminds me of the ''every kid gets a trophy'' theory we operate under nowadays.  If you want a reward, do something extra to deserve it!

Well, apparently
The 5 or so supposedly separate posters in this thread who weren't paid are saying they believe they were hired to just do a frenzied clean-up over an overflow accoount and then not paid. I think that's why a couple of them have pointed out overflow work.

I think...?

I'm kind of lost in this thread and trying to keep it clear in my muddled brain while I read the posts, lol!
Apparently! nm
nm
Apparently....
you are too immature to understand the concept or have never wanted for anything. Not everyone is in your shoes. Some MTs wear Guccis, others hand-me downs. Same job should equate to equal pay for all MTs who do the same type of work. It doesn't always. Without complaints, you don't get anywhere. You have no need to complain, apparently. Everyone has different needs. An MT who is single with very few bills may make a wonderful living at $16 an hour. A single parent MT, trying to support 3 or 4 kids at .07 cpl does not find it so easy. Gag and then puke!
