Time spent in demographics
Are there any company platforms out there where the demographics are already in place? I could just scream sometimes trying to be a detective to get all the demographics in place only to have a one-liner follow. Sigh... is it just me or are there others with the same frustration. It's difficult to make rate when demographics have to be researched and the patient name sounds like Blavopvoskitapove. Thanks for any clues on this.
I just spent a lot of time checking the web and the
personally attempt it. Maybe you will get some good feedback from people who actually work there, but there was enough information here for me to realize it may not be the place for me personally... I will see if you get any responses, because I am wondering if there are good things there too... Good luck to you!

I left them not long ago. Way too much time spent talking to
tech support because of technical problems or glitches with their system. I probably averaged 90 minutes a day down-time trying to get everything in order. Their transcription platform is not the best in the world from what I saw.

There is no roster to pull patient names from, so you have to type what the docs say, and those ER docs speak at lightening speed. I spent more time trying to get the patient name right than I did typing the report. I really, really hated that.
This was snooping by an employee....
I work at a hospital system. The records are in a database. An employee went into that database and looked at the records.
This is NOT an internet issue. It is the fact that some employees of hospitals do not realize that unless they are providing direct care to a patient, they have NO RIGHT to access that patient's chart for ANY REASON.
At the hospital where I am a per diem secretary, the database has a list in each patients record of anyone who opened their file.
When a hockey player was injured a while back, when the football player broke his neck, people were terminated for viewing their records.
I would be terminated for viewing my KIDS OR MY OWN records.
Servers can be hacked, any computer connected to the internet can be hacked. But this, and the Britney Spears incident, were cases of people who had a somewhat legitimate access to the database going into files where they shouldn't have been. Any secretary, nurse, aide, doctor, resident, intern, etc. in that hospital could have opened that file with their password.
Typing Time
Approximately how long would it take to transcribe 60 minutes of dictation? I know there are many variables but just a rough estimate would be good. Thanks in advance!
The TMs do very little typing. They don't have time.
They are accountable for TAT, so if anything, they type what is out of TAT.
I always allow 3-5 minutes typing time

Wow, I spend my time typing and waiting...
I pay not one bit of attention to my queue. I had not noted this AT ALL, but thanks for the heads up. Why is TT so shooting themselves in the foot? I left a shady company to come to TT just for that reason, because they had a great reputation and did not pull stuff like this. I certainly hope they realize what they are doing and nip it in the bud NOW. If they can salvage their reputation at this point, they may be able to pull out being one of the 3 to 5 left standing with all the work when this shakes out. Otherwise, they will be laughed at like MQ.

because you were posting this morning when I visited. Am I to assume you've already secured employment somewhere or did you just decide to spend today and probably the rest of the weekend doing nothing about a job?
Same here, another day spent jumping from one..sm
account to another trying to get my lines. My primary does not have enough crumbs to keep a mouse alive! I keep on keeping on but am actively looking for another job now.
you didn't factor in what you would have spent
working in an office - clothes, shoes, gas, vehicle wear-and-tear, driving in bad weather, lunches, travel time (what's your time worth to you), make-up (I only wear make-up when I'm going out), laundry (I wear my sweats twice before washing), office donations/kids selling stuff, manicures/pedicures, pantyhose (I count that separate from clothes cuz it's a PITA to wear).
Then there's all the stuff you miss out on cuz you're working - kids' school programs, ball games, dance recitals, on and on.
I'd love to make more than 9 cpl, but the truth is a lot of us don't even make that. You have to weigh the good with the bad. I'd rather make a little less than have all the stuff above to deal with. I never got in this biz to become a millionaire. I got it in to be home and I wouldn't give that up for a few extra bucks!!!!

I agree that the QA person there was very rude in the short time I stayed (believe me it wasn't long).

Soulmates....I think if people spent more energy
on positive things, they'd have quite a lot more to offer this new company. If we all sit around feeling sorry for oh my where has this profession gone or we're doomed, then that is what the outcome will be. Show the new owner that you care and just do a good job. People do lose their jobs in this profession. It is NOT ALWAYS to another country. There are U.S. MTs that will underbid you in a heartbeat and get the job done just as well. Everyone wants to blame offshoring, but I do not believe that to be the case in every instance that someone loses an account. You'll read posts, I lost my account, but never the details of well I was two months behind and really didn't care about when and how I got the work done. Doesn't everyone look for someone to blame? I call these kinds of people blamers. JMO.

I spent years in the hospital setting
had no clue about working from home, did not know there were companies even doing transcription from home. What also gets me is the fact that people will state they do not have work, sitting by waiting for it to come in, working all kind of weird hours to make a line count. It is no wonder and the MTers are to blame if the companies take advantage of them because they let them. How one can wait on work day after day is a mystery to me.

was so good. Which is more important to you? Sounds to me like you'd rather take the one with the type of work you enjoy more. It didn't hurt me to do that work all that time. The money was so good, it made it seem more enjoyable. Isn't it so nice though that you have a choice!
I found an article stating they have already spent over 6 months
already in place to take over immediately. I found it on their website if I'm not mistaken.
That is why I left. I spent days sitting in front of the computer, checking for
work every 5 minutes (or less) for 8+ hours trying to get work. On my days off I used to work 12+ hour days to make up lines, but then they hired people for Friday-Monday work and then there wasn't extra work to make up lines. I would get up at 3 or 4 a.m. and try to get work. I gave it a good try, frequently asked STM for more work, went over her head. They didn't seem to care, meanwhile I'm taking $300 to $400/month out of savings to cover my bills.

Does anyone have any info about D&L Typing? They have offered me some work, but I have never heard of them before. TIA

I just started with them about a 2 weeks ago. Yes, they have tons of work--I have turned away several different things from them. As far as the pay, it depends on what acct you are doing, but it is rather low.

I am not sure if they have accts that pay 9 or 10 cpl--that is something you will have to ask them. As far as the direct deposit, I don't believe they do, their website says that checks get mailed to you twice a month. Hope this helps :)

They do have lots of work, they hire IC's only, and for themost part the people there are great.
They have issues, can't get into it here, but if you want steady work, they do have it.

D&L Typing
Web site for them is medicalreport.com. They hire often, some say they don't pay on time, some say they pay low, some say the staff is bad. Others say the opposite. I would say search but with the initials, nothing comes up. I say beware of any potential new client' as an IC. Hard to tell with this one because no one comments frequently like they do the other companies here - maybe they aren't known like I know them. I can tell you they like to fish, so you may get other responses here - all part of a fishing expedition. Like many of the other posts regarding them. They try to catch their ICs talking about them - like they could ever be confirmed.
I have nothing nice to say about them, to any question you may ask. so to be fair, you should wait for other comments for both sides.

the keys sound different? The only way I know how to describe it is like way back when I was learning to type, you can just hear the difference when you hit a wrong key. Now that is coming from someone who learned to type in the 60s! haha.
I don't know how to explain it. Maybe somebody else can, but when you are typing, don't you kind of hear the flow and know when you have a typo?

actually, the typing speed...
is not as important as learning to use an expander to do the work for you. This is the REAL key. I type perhaps 300+ words a minute using mine.
And like I said, if you weren't typing SM
the stuff, they'd have nothing to come back to you with. And how did they get angry with you anyway? Did you respond to their feedback with negativity and not take responsibility for knowing your account or the basics of transcription?
From knowing many people with your type of attitude over the years, 9 times out of 10 they are people who have the same problems at every job, don't take feedback well, think they are right all of the time and just generally cause problems. Instead of taking responsibility for your part in doing a job, you lay blame on your supervisors, other employees, etc.

What's wrong with typing something right
the first time? My informal posts are indicative of my work quality, which is nearly error-free. I find it very hard to believe that some of these people who claim to have 99-100% QA and a nack for MT are being honest with themselves when they can't even spell simple English words. An occasional typo is one thing, but rampant grammar and spelling errors gives the impression that the person is either a lousy MT or a bored nonMT trying to start a flame war. If someone has to go back and proof every report to that extent, I don't see how they're making any money at all. Maybe that's the real reason behind wanting a higher line rate. The focus needs to be on quality, not quantity.
Excuse me for being honest. I don't nitpick at simple typos, but I'm tired of amateurs who think they have the nack ranting about deserving as much money as those of us who can do any report or ESL. How were any of you helping the original poster by telling her to demand more money and quit one MT company for another when she's obviously not ready yet?

I worked for them and they are closed on weekends so what they send you on Friday gives you all weekend to toggle it. Some of their work is also 48 hour turnaround time but depends on account. They pay on time also but no direct deposit.

I worked for them for 3 years but part time. The good thing is you are set up with your own doctors so you have the same dictators constantly. They do pay on time but the cpl is not real high and depends on each doctor so you can be paid a different rate for each. Need anymore info let me know. What did they offer you for work?

I saw this post and was concerned for you. I worked for them from 2000 to 2003 and never had a problem with paychecks, however the owner was controlling it all at that time and every other thurs or fri she would send the paychecks out snail mail. They would get all data together on tues and wed to my knowledge then they would promptly go out and I never had a problem. She owner told me she would always welcome me back if I wanted to and even provide my accounts back to me but I have since learned I was ignored by the staff and not rehired. I believe she never found out I was available. I see a problem now that you mention this as I think there are many new turn over of employees in that office since I have worked there so they just don't care. I bet the owner would not like to hear that. I would call and ask for Donna - the owner or John her husband. They should be aware of this. I think her help is not doing her a favor. Maybe I am lucky for that staff to have ignored my request for rehire back in December. I would appreciate feedback on your situation in the future as I still was considering calling.

Straight typing
You could try MDI-FL, they have alot of straight typing. I think they are hiring now too. I personally love VR, I seem to make alot more money with it and cannot seem find enough companies who offer it.
QED typing test
Has anyone taken the typing test for QED Transcription? It said begin typing to start test, but there was no cursor to let me know where I was typing. Do you type the paragraph above, and if so, where?

Question for D&L Typing ICs
I have been working as an IC for D&L since last year and really like the accounts I have but the pay is just soooo low. Are there any other MTs working for them that are experiencing this? I don't want to say anything to them about this because I really like what I am doing there. Do they go up on your line rate after you have worked for them for a while? Any info would be appreciated.
