Janet, in response to your question  -- you work 5 days a week, if your schedule falls on a weekend or a holiday  -- yes, you are EXPECTED to work  -- holidays are a bit lax -- I am NOT taking it out on you personally, but HOSPITALS operate 24/7 and 365 days a year  -- my daughter is a nurse and does not get holidays off unless she schedules way in advance (and she is just a year into her career)  -- I get soooo tired of I don't want to work weekends, I don't want to work holidays that I could scream  -- I know you took the job to be with your kids but think of how business would be otherwise  - when I was growing up, stores used to be TOTALLY closed on Sunday  -- this is no longer the case  -- bet the grocery checkers and everyone else dosent gripe about working weekends or holidays  -- Ithis is a career and you have to take the good with the bad.

I normally get up in the morning, have my coffee check email do checking of my system and hit the ground running  -- sometimes I have good days and sometimes I have awful days, but I have been in this profession for over 30 years and if I have had to had a holiday off, move et cetra I have scheduled it ahead of time  either that too, holidays do not necessarily have to be celebrated on THAT PARTICULAR day.

Off my soapbox

take it to email and more personally than to expose it publicly on an internet bulletin board.

This would show some  (quote) CLASS (/quote).

Here's my response to your post....sm

1.  If you've been gone 7 months why do you care?  How do you know who the supposed troublemakers were if there were any?

2.  Since you've been gone a while you haven't seen the communications to the employees, therefore it's unfair of you to judge anything about what the company has done since you left and is doing in the future.

3.  The company was open and honest about this experiment with offshore labor - didn't try to hide it like other companies have done.  They could have not said anything, done it, and the transcriptionists wouldn't have known for months.

4.  Experimenting and doing are 2 different things - and just because something is being explored doesn't mean it will be a done deal.

5.  The company fought considering using offshore labor but with the government not caring about it across the US or federal labor it's hard for anyone to fight it permanently - see the administrator for MTStars comments.  IT's not just transcription getting hit by offshore competition.  It's other jobs as well.  Ford is closing plants due to offshore competition.  Kraft is closing plants.  Other companies are doing the same thing and moving jobs overseas.  Stinks doesn't it?  But until we citizens of the US start insisting on stiff tariffs to anyone using labor outside of the US the trend will continue, especially since the lawmakers don't give a crud (probably due to payoffs).

6.  If you're really making all of the money you're claiming then good for you - especially if you're not working extra hours.  Be happy for yourself and don't knock another company.  It makes you look bad.   One person's dream job is another person's disaster.  I'm sure that where-ever you're working now has people who say bad things about it.

No and re-read my post - I sent an email to payroll with my banking information and asked them to Fed-Ex my check directly to the bank -- yes, I am having a payroll deduction for this, but it is because for the branch of my bank it is 3 hours away.

JLG is NOT the only company that does this as FutureNet does it as well as far as no DD and mailing or sending checks.
I really don't know why the post below is in response to
my post. I have no complaints about CardioScribes. I just wanted to let the original poster know that I did receive my line count report and she would also receive hers. I am very happy at CardioScribes. I had some issues in the beginning, but my team lead and Tonya went out of their way to address my issues, which are no longer issues. In other words, they took care of me and did everything in their power to make me happy and that I am....HAPPY!
I think the post above you was in response to:

Please post your response
Please be sure to publicize the IRS response you get. That way, these companies will get the idea this is wrong and can't dispute it. Plus, we'd all like to know too. If the answer is out there enough, the MTSOs will have to abide by it.
In response to your post
I had the same thing -- hired by companies -- DD thing and if not immediate a paper check -- then for some reason it didn't work either way, I have never had a problem with identity theft on the part of an employer even after leaving for several months -- I just think that if it did happen, the bank could trace it and the MTSO employee who tried to do it would be in deep poop
In response to your post

Most of the companies that I have worked for in the past had a built in method of counting lines.  I was told by the person who supervised me at the company to just take the character count iwth lines and spaces in Microsoft Word and divide by 65 which is what I did.  When the line count came back from the hospital with them using Sylcount, by their methods, I had been shorted approximately 1,000 lines.  I am being compensated by the company for those lines.  I then proceeded the other day to download both Practicount and Sylcount, however for some reason, I could not get a line count.  With Sylcount, it was a trial version, and I found out via the grapevine that with a trial version, it would not count the lines.  I then received a liscened copy of Practicount, from the company; however, again for some reason, it would not count the lines.  As to the other issue involved, because of a family emergency with my current landlord, I am having to find another place to rent.  Right now, my search is limited to weekends and this was explained to both the supervisor and the owner of the company but to no avail.

I think it may have been in response to the post just below from Wanda....

the post was removed and my response
I worked for them, if you do clinic, ask about demographics, as you need to find the schedule, then find the name and MRN, go back, fill in all demo screens, takes a lot of time, for a 2 minute note, is a waste, you won't get a lot of lines that way. My QA was good, supervisor was not. University accounts have a lot of different dictators. They pay on time.
Response to your post re: Wireless
Just a bit confused regarding your post and wireless. You mentioned that TT said it was not acceptable. Are you referring to a wireless router set up, where for example you are getting a signal off of someone else's wireless connection or are you referring to an air card through a cell phone provider?

The reason I ask is that I live in town and can hook up through my landlady's wireless router, however, the signal is not very strong and I have had problems with connecting through the VPN at times and staying connected. I also have a USB wireless air card, which I purchased through Sprint when I lived in a rural area and could not get either cable or DSL for a period of time. Spint, Verizon and many of the other cell phone carriers now have USB wireless air cards which you just plug into a free USB port on your computer. The biggest problem with this kind of card is that you have to be in relatively close proximity to a cell phone tower in order to be able to get any kind of speed for your uploads and downloads.

Also, with an air card, you have to commit to so many years, and you may have to pay for the card. I was lucky enough to get my air card through Sprint for free (Normally around $200 I think) and I pay $60 a month for unlimited internet service.

There are MANY companies out there that allow this kind of a setup. The company that I am working for now allows this, as well as FutureNet. Most of the time, if you explain the situation of having an air card to your technical person, there are ways of getting the program to work. Hope this helps.
Then why was posted in response to MY post? - sm
Am I supposed to know it's for the OP??  And I'm quite relaxed and chilled out.  Maybe you're the one who needs to relax and giving orders.
and if you click on that post asking, you will see response under.

I recall your post. You did not get a response and it was YOU
who were very rude and downright nasty. My goodness, you have no insight whatsoever.

The answer to your question would have taken a great deal of time to answer, perhaps others did not want to get into it.

I decided NOPE after I read your post, though never did find initial post question.

Not sure, but I come across people who literally expect adoption papers to be taken out and get angry when this does not come about.

I think ya all DO have a
hip aw rooon the shoulder, just don't have the energy or inclination to bother. Sorry.
I'm unclear as to what this response has to do with My Opinion's post.

Jo..I e-mailed you a response about your original post....(nm)

mmmm

Do you think you get a better response to post your resume on here or answer ads on here. Which one
seems to give the best result.
With all the negative posts in response to a positive post, I am

surprised that anyone posts anything here.

I do not work for Keystrokes but I like to see what is out there, and the benefits they are offered, if coupled with a decent line rate and steady work load, are better than most I have seen.

Gone are the days of fully-paid pension plans.  Gone are the days of three weeks' vacation.  Employers cannot afford these, and not just in transcription.

If you aren't interested or do not like something, just ignore the post.  You obviously were interested or you would not have read it.

Can't we cut back on the nasty posts on this board?  If it does not concern you, don't criticize.

If you are not looking for a new position, don't gripe about ones that are being offered.  If you are looking and a company's line rates, benefits or perks don't meet your personal requirements, why cut that company down?  Just move on and good luck finding what you are looking for.

I agree with the poster about being mad at the entire industry, but I still love my career choice.  It has been a good fit for me and has allowed me to live a nice lifestyle.

If I wasn't happy, I'd move on to another career.

good post, but in response to 'why apply if you don't want the job'....

This is only my opinion.  If I am considering taking on a new account, I will send my resume' out to a few companies, and see what offers come in.  If it takes one company a day or two to make an offer and another company a week, I may not be available in a week.

Not sure if you think it is proper to send out a resume to just one company, and cross fingers hoping they will call with a decent offer.  I, for one, prefer to interview the company, not have the company interview me.

Hope this sheds some insight on why you may not receive a call back from those who submit their resume'.  You may be taking too long to get back to them.

did anyone get a response from the original poster? this post is just fishy, especially since they

Read Spherson's post below, who admits, in the post, they do pay it.

Peachy, your post is interesting, but my post now is irrelevent but
A few weeks ago I went to my clinic where they had recently implemented EHR or EMR, whichever you call it, and the doctor's back was to me the whole time he and I conversed because his nose was stuck in his laptop. To me, it felt a little more impersonal, but I understand he was doing what he had to do, but it seems like the bedside manner may go to the wayside if the doctors can't even look at you when they are asking you questions or you are speaking to him/her. I know this is relevant to your original post, but just an interesting fact that I had not anticipated. Anyone else experience this?
THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE

I'll stick with MQ too!

just got a response from BLS....

their MAXIMUM line rate is $.05 gross line...... so much for that.

In response to you.....
Actually I just had my husband come and read the these posts. He is laughing HIS ____ off!! We know how much we make. It still blows my mind some people actually think this is not possible. Maybe you would not be ROFLYBFAO if you actually got some initiative and pounded pavement to get an account like mine. :)

Did you ever get a response...sm

I have not heard anything back.

Thank you for your response...(sm)

What kind of platform do you type on?  Is it strictly internet based or do you have to have C-phone, extra phone line or other equipment?

Thanks Again!

No Response From Them
I sent them a note and told them I was interested, but wanted to know what the company name was.  Haven't heard back.  Will certainly write this one off as mysterious.
You actually got a response?
It took them a month before I heard anything after I quit. Until then, however, I was still getting the emails and such. They will send you shipping labels for the equipment.
Response to Asking
As far as I can tell from the paperwork I received,
it didn't look like they did medical, just legal and general, but I could be wrong. Let me know if you decide to go ahead with them. I'd be interested in knowing how they are to work for.
Thank you very much for the response.
:-)
Thank you so much for your response
am very concerned about my future there.  I have decided to leave, but am very nervous because I have no income to fall back on.  I want to work for a company that is not so strict on scheduling, will let me type extra, and I need medical benefits.  I have lots of experience. This is a tough one.  I wish MQ would not have changed, I used to love it there.
response
You have no clue what my background in. I have years of acute care experience. I've also had my own accounts and had IC's work for me. HyperType's QA people had absolutely no problems with my work. The owner wanted me to stay. Tech support had no problems with me, and I basically had no problems with them. The problems with HyperType are solely due to how the company is run. And yes, I was one of their top producers. So, don't make assumptions that people are just full of sour grapes or pissed someone off. There were legitimate reasons why I left HyperType. I'm not going to state all the details here. I did state some positive facts about HyperType, by the way.

Not every company is a good fit for each MT. Explain why the majority of MTs working for HyperType choose to work such minimal lines per pay period. If HyperType was so wonderful, had so much work, if the platform was wonderful, if the work created such great line counts, everyone would be working tons of hours for them each week -- not so.
Thank you for response....LM....

.....Could you tell me how flexible they are when it comes to putting you on accounts?  My absolute favorites are Radiology first and then Neurology second.  These are the accounts I would want to do.  I absolutely detest OPs and would not want to do these at all.  Would they be able to put me on the account I want?  Also, what is their pay rate?

I too have worked in the hospital setting and at-home with several different companies.  I was happy with my first at-home company (Edix n.k.a. Spheris) until they sold the company and everything changed.  Since leaving them I have been working (if that's what you can call it) with InfoPro as an IC.  The work is never there ( example:  I only made $6,000 last year).  I won't get a paycheck this pay period because there hasn't been any work available.  I absolutely cannot make it like this and desperately need to find another job.  One that I know I will have the work available and also one that I know I will be typing what I like and not have to force myself to try to type what I don't like.

My only problem is that I don't have a DAC-126 or C-Phone.

Thank you again for your information and help, it is greatly appreciated.

No response??
Not sure who you are but perhaps you should contact them again. They recently had a posting on the MTJobs board.
Got my response.
It was in the form a a really stupid form letter. Anyway, I wrote back to them in case anyone needs or wants ideas on what to say:

I appreciate the form letter.

I will again restate that I do not affiliate myself with physicians, hospitals, clinics, transcriptionists/transcription companies or organizations that support offshoring American jobs in any way. I know where the industry trends are going. I have been under bid, laid off, fired and downsized due to offshore entities that promise work for as little as next to nothing. It is not right that we should be forced to compete with that, and the organization that says AMERICAN and MT in the title should be advocating for the American part and not going over to shake hands with those offshore who are going to end up taking the jobs away from here.

In Response
I've been watching the comments fly by on this board about my company in amusement. Everyone has the freedom of speech, but when it comes to calling the owner of Shapin Medical Transcription (me) names and implying that I give my clients less than perfect reports, I have to step in and say something.

No one knows how I run my company. We have 3 tiers of QA so reports go back to our clients perfect. It is in our contract with our clients that they don't pay for reports with errors and to date, after nearly 10 years, we have credited our clients less than $100 for errors.

We are not a large company, but we also are not small. We have nearly 150 very happy clients who refer new clients to us all of the time (of course they get a nice credit on their invoice when doing so, but that again is something you know nothing about, how to run a business.)

If you apply with us and don't like the pay offered, by all means turn us down. No one is forced into a position with us. The QA and MTs that do work with us are, for the most part, happy. They enjoy the work and no one is complaining about their paychecks.

We are hiring more QA people because we have a lot of new clients coming on board over the next few weeks, not because our QA people are leaving. Again, you make assumptions on something you know nothing about.

And yes, we do outsource, to India, to the Philippines and we have American MTs. Our overseas MTs don't complain about having to work, they don't ask for time off every other day, they don't have excuses for not turning in their work within TAT and several of them produce client ready work. Our offshore MTs pride themselves in their work and turn in the best quality they can, unlike a few of the American MTs we’ve had that turn in less than perfect work, don’t take direction and refuse to change bad habits, and ask for more work just to make more money.

I am asking the contractors that work for us to refrain from making any more comments, but since it is a free country they are free to do as they please.

I will NOT respond to any responses to my post. I do have a company to run, a family and a life and don’t have the time that a lot of you seem to have to live on this board.

let's try this response again - sm

I keep trying to post a response, but for some reason it won't post.

I know a couple of people that have worked for the company - they were newbies.  They said it was awful - low pay and LOTS of ESL doctors.

HOwever, I'm assuming that you are new to the industry, and this is a company that does hire newbies.  So you might want to use this as a learning experience to get your feet wet.  Or you may want to try a local hospital or clinic - I found that to be the absolute best experience around - because I had the help of other transcriptionists around me to ask and for feedback.

Thanks for the response
I realize for the 401k you have to be there a year, I was wondering if the company matched a percentage. I agree that most of the National companies abuse MTs, especially as far a pay goes for good experienced acute care MTs. The only option I see is going back to IC work. I did that for over 10 years, no paid vacation, no retirement, none of the perks the larger companies can offer. I'm so tired of looking for that perfect company, or even one that comes close, I guess it really just doesn't exist. Thanks for your input.
RCR response

Just stay away from that company.

I applied one time and got a call from the owner.  It was not the job that scared me away, it was him.  He told me how he was taken someone to court about who knows what but I wanted nothing to do with that kind of thing.  Imagine someone calling to offer you a job and having to hear that non-sense.

Run, run stay away is my advice to you!

my response was much different
I've had BS for months with no problems. It was explained to me that as long as I hung up several times a day, the 5000 minutes started over each time. The limit is for autodialers. I specifically explained my situation and recorded the phone call in case I needed it in the future.
I got a response
from Debra Mcnair for the vet ophthalmology but I did not have any prior experience in that field.  it sounds like she was looking for a lot of experience right off the bat for it.  Good luck.
Response

Several of us working there thinking the same thing.  It is a pattern and has not changed.  Several looking for other positions, but I think it is the same all over and nothing done about cherry pickers and never will be.  As long as there are in-house (hospital transcriptionists) it will continue and then you get the message that they are the client, but yet it is all outsourced to Keystrokes.  It is hard to trust or believe anyone in this business anymore, they are looking out for themselves. Just be sure this is what you want to do and don't give up something good for something you think may be better.  Wouldn't it be interesting if companies started giving their turnover rates?

No response either
I also have 10+ years' experience and they never contacted me. They probably had a TON of responses all at once.
response to your

I was trying to stay within the guidelines of the original question which included being realistic. I think line rates should be at or above the level they were 10 years ago (I know . . . lot to ask). However, if the MTSO is working with a specific amt of dollars, the MT willing to slog through the difficult and slow dictators should be paid a higher line rate than someone transcribing ERs or appendectomies and C-sections.  I disagree with your statement that everyone is highly skilled. I could train high school students to transcribe ERs in three weeks that would be every bit as competent in them as someone doing ERs for 20 years. It is a narrow skill set. Don't let your ego get in the way of the facts.
