Long reports, much editing to do, headings sm

are made when not needed, headings not made when needed.  They've lied about how good the ISR is over here.  Straight out lied.

On a good hour, I've only reached 300 lph (only if I've also had straight typing), many hours I am 120 lph, 110 lph on short VR reports only.

How much editing do you do on reports? sm
I currently work on eScription and the drafts are fantastic - meaning that on most reports I make maybe a half a dozen corrections at most. What about your system?
I make 3 cpl editing ER reports
Please feel free to steer me toward any company who pays better. Sometimes it's even faster to retype reports completely than pick through and correct them. Anyone, plese feel free to suggest a good company that pays reasonably (doesn't even have to be great pay, just reasonable), that would be enough. Is 3 cpl reasonable for ER? Sure doesn't seem like it.
Editing VR and seeing other reports that are not edited...
When speed goes up, quality goes down. At my company, they pay 100% same pay for VR as for straight typing; hence, less chance of lawsuits.
How long have you been doing the editing?
nm
So long editing....
I'm one of those 'old timers' who has been an MT for so many years, I can hardly count.   I thought I had found my dream job in 2004, work from home, hourly wage, then in 2006, EditScript raised its ugly head at my workplace and now, this Friday, my dream will finally be over, though it died when EditScript was born.  What I have learned from this EditScript may be helpful to others in the future.  First, they had us typing what the doctors said into the EditScript system.  Our pay was for editing lines and standard transciption lines.  They had a control bar that showed the speed you were editing or transcribing.  At 100% some doctors were really slow, so of course, you would speed them up to get them done as you usually did.  They paid you a training differential, with % increments lowered as time went on until you were on full editing pay.  They said 4 cpl to 4.7 cpl was the normal range, from A,B,C ratings.  At first, I always got A ratings, just like I had when I transcribed.  Then, after all the training was over for everyone, less than a year, almost immediately, my rating was lowered because of some minor in farctions,  (i.e. the patient will be seen IF needed. versus the patient wil be seen AS needed.)  Nothing big, just slight things.  Then, it started.  Some days it seemed the system was slow and no matter how fast I typed or who I got, my line count would be low.  Then, some days, it seemed like it was really fast with lots of work to do, but my line count was low, other days, not so much work, but line count average.  I had started to keep meticulous counts from the beginning, doctor speeds, number of lines half way through, by end of day, hourly averages, number of reports on the system in morning, at noon, etc.  Things showed itself fairly quickly to not adding up.  Then, pretty soon, I was down to a C rating and little work to do some days.  I tried harder and harder, after all, I had been a MT for years, I was not a quitter and my personality was type A, do it right!!  Then, right after Christmas there was no work, nothing but trickling in from 12-26 to first week in February.  They said it was normal for that time of year.  I looked at my log, and that was incorrect, I was making over 2,000+ lines a day last holiday season.  Then, they said more minor errors.  Even on some things I really did not think I did, and then they said I made a name spelling error (....on a name that happened to be my mother's name), ... but I just happened to have a copy of the report I sent in and my report showed I had done it correctly.  I was thinking how can this happen?  I know that I or anyone is not perfect, but when it came to spelling a name that was my mom's name, and I had a copy of the original report, I was thinking do not be paranoid but is someone messing with my work?  Then, 2 days later, at the department meeting they said, Gee, this EditScript is such a fast editing system and now that we have implemented the EMR (electronic medical record), we are finding that we will not need as many editors so half of you will be gone within a year.  Ahhh, now things started to make sense.  I was the last person hired.  They do not want to have to pay unemployment insurance, so let us just gently push her out.   What they did not realize is that I always have my ears open and I had already found another job being an MT at an hourly rate.  So, I quit.  What I learned is this:  The EditScript system or any editing system makes MT's lose jobs, so if there are 6 of you editing, it will soon be less than that!  Keep your eyes out for new jobs and in the background remember that that job, too, will soon be gone because of some computer software somewhere that takes $$ out of our pocket and back into the company's, because medical record departments are non-revenue-producing departments and they look at those first to cut, ALWAYS. (I used to work in management at a hospital, I know.)  I also learned that the president of EditScript was on a board for AHDI....so, of course, IN MY OPINION, MedQuist's law suit wants that lawsuit money to go to AHDI, ....it is putting it back into the hands of the administrators of company's who has software that can manipulate line counts of the MTs and editors.   (Allegedly.)   Well, that is my story.  Hope it helps some newbie learn to watch their back to editing.
Do they have a lot of ESL's and long reports?
I'll get $1.35 per report BUT its a teaching hospital and they route all the longest reports and foulest dictators to me, so heck I might as well make minimum wage anymore. Do they have non-teaching hospital radiology accounts?
you can have VERY long reports...nm
nm
how long are the reports on average?
I've only been paid by the line, so have no idea how many reports do you do in 8 hours? Curious, thinking of applying for MDI-MD radiology account.
Aren't long reports the worst!
I sometimes get 30-minute reports with dictators who sound like they are eating peanut butter while dictating. I am also exhausted after typing them. I thought it was just me. Surprised to see others find it exhausting too. It zaps the motivation right out of you, especially if your pay is already on the low end to begin with.

-- me --
Actually, I'm kind of looking forward to those long reports..(sm)
I haven't done Radiology on a regular basis since 1997...but I got offered this job and I almost turned it down because I've been doing acute care for so long I thought I wanted to continue with that...but I took the Rad job and it just kind of felt good to type Rad again. I think I was burned out on acute care!
I love the K. Long reports, good lines.
nm
Do not pay for headings
If you have a report that has templated information they do not pay for that, headers, or footers.
VR not that great at headings. sm
Some reports good, some jibberish.  Some of the Keystrokes - like changing case and such - are wonderful.  Some never use.  Does it make you more productive?  In my case sometimes.  Just disgusted with pay cut - oh excuse me, the adjusted line rate.
2 spaces between sentence; add headings when possible;
nm
Every account is different with abbrevs, headings, etc.
so do not think you can just go ahead and format it. One rule - nothing is ever the same at Transcend for anything.

VR is horrible - same problems over and over, nothing ever gets fixed. My pay was cut in half on VR and I could not get my lines even close to what I could do typing.

Communication depends on your ROM/TL. Some are good, others are really bad (and need lessons on how to spell because their e-mails are full of typos.)

Pay sounds good, but all in all, it is probably less than some of the other companies because the platform is very cumbersome and slow. I finally just put dates in every field because I could never remember which field was used for what account. Insurance is so-so.
Spheris MTs, do we get paid for preprogrammed headings SM
in the platforms. I am on TWS 3.8.  TIA
You can have 2 sets of headings in ShortHand, ones that are bolded and others that are plain. I had
accounts like that also, one using bold headings and the other not. For the bold headings, I would put maybe an x or a number behind the shortcut, such as HPIx for bold and HPIxx for without bold, whatever suits your fancy.
Transtech pays for all the headings in the report template, such as those in your example, and they
all the demographic stuff that is inserted into the header and/or footer of your report. A heading and not the same thing as a header. The only thing on a report that you are not paid for is the hard-coded header and/or footer at the top and bottom of the document that has the facility name and the spot for the patient information to be inserted.
Yes, that's including headings. I use Open Office which gives me a char count.
What it doesn't include is anything in the ADT screen, just what we type in the report.
Typing ER reports and radiologogy reports
are completely different with regards to pay. For typing regular reports, that is a very fine line rate. For typing radiology reports, it would be horrid.
I think your getting it all wrong.. She is probably doing VR editing..not the same as QA editing..
Does make a difference as you are not correcting someone's else work.. just VR to make sure the sentences make sense, right punctuation etc..If you have good English skills, it is not that difficult but this 1.5 cpl is a joke.
No problem :) No matter how long, it is too long for me - I am broke the day after payday. Kids wi
do that to you!

I know that they have worked very hard to make sure that checks are never late and I can say that in the past two years, I have had one problem (2 days late) and in the past 18 months, they have all been on payday and perfect.

I know that there are a lot of hard feelings in MT in general. I also know firsthand (and I am not mgmt) how hard KS has worked to get things going good.

I would not want to walk in an MTSO's shoes for any amount of money, but that's just me. I like to finish my work for the day, forget about work when not working and get paid on payday. I never want the other things that go with mgmt or owning a company of any kind :)
They definitely rip you off with your line count. Figured this out long ago and quit long ago

What really sucks is that I looked for a LONG, long time -sm
before joining DRC - wanted a highly reputable, not-too-big co. that was LOCAL, and that treated its MTs humanely. I'm very happy with DRC & had planned to stay with them permanently.
Long, long history of not paying...and
similar posts have been made here in the past few months. Everyone thinks they will be different, and then they end up coming back here to warn others that they don't pay.
but those were long, long lines for
most of the reports. You could make more with a 65-character line count.
Not editing.
Typing yes, editing no, not yet.  I didnt say I wouldnt have a pay cut.  I did say that I feel I can produce however, the more I do it.  If i left Transcend because of editing and pay cuts, I would work somewhere else and make probably the same typing.  I am getting paid good with or without the pay cut.  If you go somewhere else, how do you know in the future that company will not be moving to the same typing of editing platform???? Because they said they wouldn't?   Dont believe that.  It is the future, many companies are going to be doing it.  I will know how which will keep me having a job.
I can get at leAST 5 cpl editing at
Softscript, much better than 4 or 4.8 cpl.
2 cpl for editing? TIA
nm
6 cpl as an IC for editing?
s
No - not at 4 cpl, but at 12 cpl editing VR. nm

Editing at 12 cpl?
Who do you work for that you are making 12 cpl for editing?
VR Editing, or you use VR? NM

editing
I know of NO companies that pay decent for editing.  They think it takes less time and gives us higher line counts; just the opposite for me at the 2 places I've done editing.   It takes more time to delete and add words and fix words than it does to just transcribe it.  Especially when the voice recognition isn't even close!
Yes 1.5 cpl for editing

I have been an MT for 2 years, I have never edited before.  This is my first editing position.  I am learning a lot.  Sure the pay is not the best, but I am learning.  Don't get me wrong, I do need money, but I also need experience in this field.  I don't know if the pay goes up or not, I have only been with them for almost 2 months and have not asked for a pay raise.  I am sure there are editing jobs that pay more, but I like the company, the people, and the flexibility.  There are no set lines you have to edit.  You go at your own pace.  There are pros and cons to every company.  Some like Shapin, others do not.

Do you mean editing VR, or MTs?
xx
Would you consider editing?
Superior global solutions has both editing and straight transcription. I have been here for a few months not and LOVE them. Easy word-based system to use and I tip back and forth between straight typing and editing voice. I have CTS and have noticed a big improvement. Maybe you should consider editing?.
Editing pay is way too low BUT
a liveable wage is just as someone below said at $16 to $20, but find the companies and count them on one hand that pay it. Companies today are not interested in quality or they would pay editors a decent wage. Half of what I earned as an MT is NOT a decent wage and $16 to $20 is half of what I earned as an MT.
I do editing myself, and...........
I can say that they might be able to see the view, but the font is not touched in any way. Sounds like your QA person does not know much about computers. I would just do it, they cannot fire you for trying to save your eyesight, and they cannot tell you not to do that. I always do it. Does not change font.
Go for the VR editing
This is the future of MT - it won't hurt you to learn it now while it is still new. Keystrokes - unless you can deal with a lot of emotional drama - I'd go the other way.
Editing?
As of a year ago, they didn't do editing. Their platform had been purchased by Nuance/Dragon Naturally Speaking, but I didn't get the impression they would be going the VR route any time soon.
Not VR editing, QA editing
They had an ad for a regular editor.  Heard various things from them being wonderful to bouncing checks, but I can't really find anything definite.
I know where you can get way more for editing!
nm
Editing
Do you mind if I ask why you work as an Editor for someone who hires with such low standards? In other words, too CHEAP to pay qualified MTs what they are worth. As long as the experienced MTs are willing to accept these low salaries to clean up crap, the cycle will just continue of salaries going down, down, down.
I Like Editing

I Like editing with eScription.   I can edit twice as fast as I can type.     Before eScription, my wrists and shoulders would hurt at the end of the day.    I don't have that problem any more.

I've been a transcriptionists for 15 years.  Before, eScription, I was worried about how much longer I could work.  I think eScription has extended my career.

Anybody out there do editing for
Transtech? Just wondering if it was good or bad, how much pay, etc?
Editing
Right now I make $15 hr editing. Can you really make that good of money at .04? What is the platform and is there a lot of formatting, etc?
editing
No, not a lot of formatting. Mostly it is just punctuation, etc. But some doctors do require major editing. It works out for me but I guess it depends on the docs you get and how comfortable you are
MT Editing
Just curious - does anyone know if MT Editors have a special program they use to be able to distinguish words we miss as transcriptionists very clearly?  I find it interesting that what is a simple word, which I know once the correction comes back, that they are able to figure it out and have a flawless report.
Doing 100% QA Editing for 3 cpl
Is 3 cpl considered low for being expected to do 100% QA on every file?  Seems like I just can't make any money listening to every single dictation from beginning to end, but yet this is what is expected.
