I didn't say anything about a fair wage for an MT. I simply stated what I am making and that I am completely satisfied with it. I live in a small town, wages are cheap, living is inexpensive and laid back. I have a part-time job with Allegiant that is not so difficult that it stresses me out but still is plenty stimulating enough that it satisfies my needs and gives me spending money.

As far as a fair wage for a professional MT, who is to say what is fair? There are just too many variables. A fair wage for me as a Transcriptionist for a small independent company with a clinic account seeing patients with problems such as a back ache, ankle fracture, or hematuria is light years away from a fair wage for a transcriptionist working for a major medical center transcribing H&Ps, op notes, EKGs, discharge summaries, pathology reports, consultations, and a myriad of other types of reports for hundreds of different doctors, residents, nurses, PAs, and ESLs. BTDT. No wage is big enough or fair enough for me to put myself under that kind of stress again.

One more thing before I zip it: To all the transcriptionists in the world who do transcribe all those difficult dictations for all those difficult dictators, my hat goes off to you. The world needs you, and you have my admiration. I hope you all are making a bundle of bucks because you certainly deserve it.
