Perhaps there are fewer new MTs because they found out they cannot hardly make a living at MT anymore rather than lack of education. In the last 10 years, the MT pay scale has remained the same or gone down. Also, for the most part, MTs in the U.S. need to have experience to get "in the door". I know MTs with over 20+ years of experience making 7 cents a line regardless of any education they may have. We are certainly not paid what we are worth or the education you need just to do basic MT work.
