Bush actually supports offshoring and has implimented plenty of tax cuts to companies and hospitals alike for sending work offshore!

pay cuts

Unfortunately, she couldn't say who gave her the information so that person wouldn't get burned, but she did decide not to apply. That seems significant since I know with all her experience she would have easily passed the test and been hired.

It seems interesting to me that you say the company has went down in the last 6 months to a year.  I've been there quite a few years and have seen the company take a drastic tail spin as soon as they hired their new chief of operations, formerly from Speris, he then hired some MQ buddies of his, and now they have systematically taken a really nice place to work and turned it into just another MTSO that thinks of its CEOs (and they seem to have added quite a few of those!) wallet before its MTs!

So before the usual management/CEO posing as an MT comes on and tells me to quit, why should I? ... this is where all the transcription companies are headed, no need to change one devil for another.  But retirement will be coming for me sooner than later because I can't see things getting any better for us MTs.

no pay cuts!
I dislike VR but it took some reasearch for me to understand why the reports kept coming in filled with junk/errors. I never suggested any pay cuts--heaven forbid! I do about 50/50 where I work but more traditional whenever possible.
Pay cuts

Wonder when the CEOs of these companies will figure out it's the MTs that are keeping them in business....you get what you pay for. Outsourcing to India and then having to hire a US MT to QA their work seems rather ludicrous to me. I was always proud to say that MDI didn't outsource - although I realize everyone has to do what they have to do,  I have mixed feelings about this merger for that reason, whether it brings additional work in or not.

Pay cuts
I'm in nursing school at the moment and getting the heck out!   I have 20 years experience and remember when I was getting paid a nice 12 cpl WITH benefits.   Can't even seem to find anything, but contractor jobs at 8 cpl!  It's disgusting what they have done to the MT industry.
Webmedx pay cuts ?
I had a friend who was applying but later heard that there were going to be restructuring and pay cuts announced next week.  Any one else heard this?
Acusis Pay Cuts
True, true, true. Been there, experienced that. If you want to hear all about it, e-mail me.
Watch out, MT pay cuts are next

I know there was some trashing of someone who posted on the Company Board about Editor pay cuts, but I know someone who knows an editor, and all the editors except the new ones got at least a 30 percent pay cut. MTs are next, and we are going to have to get by on less.

If you love Spheris and the indian companies, you're gonna love Acusis.

Acusis pay cuts
Your pay may not have been cut if you're a newer MT with them.  Its us MTs who have been there and know all the ropes who are getting the kick in the face.  If you're an old MT with them, I'm sure your pay is cut and they just haven't gotten around to calling you yet!
Notice it's always the MTs who get pay cuts, never
Feh.
BAD - ISR pay cuts in the near future :(
Some mumbo jumbo about how their fancy new ISR program will up our production, and thus we get pay cuts, since we have to be competative in the market. Funny how we are getting million dollar accounts, but yet they can't afford to pay us a decent amount. Knew it was coming, just was hoping to avoid it for another year until done with school.
Transcend pay cuts?
At the time of the Transcend purchase of MDI, we MDI'ers were encouraged to ask questions, so I asked the Transcend president directly if my pay rate would stay the same, and her answer was yes. I have not yet heard anything from anyone at MDI or Transcend about any pay cuts. Could someone provide further information?? Thanks.
Transend/MDI pay cuts
To all Transcend MTs, I am syaing without any form of hostility, welcome to our world. I am wondering if any of you have the answers to the questions us MDIers have been asking: Is IC still an option? Will be be limited to a 40-hour work week? Will our schedule include 1 weekend day EVERY weekend? What happens if we can't (because of lack of work) meet our commitments? Can we expect a cpl drop? Will we be forced to VR? Will we have a set schedule or can we work when we want? How is the current work flow, is there enough for everyone? What percentage of work is being outsourced and what are the projections for next year?

These are questions that us MDIers cannot get answered. Do you Transcend MTs have any REAL and credible answers?
Yikes - with the pay cuts and all? You can have 'em.
nm
Actually, a lot of careers have had wage cuts
Anything that can be offshored to India for under a penny on the dollar has seen their wages cut. Do we remember what happened not too long ago to all the software engineers that used to make really good money? They're probably making half of what they made 10 years ago. The few customer support people that remain stateside probably make at least $2 an hour less than they made 10 years ago. Heck, even the radiologists that used to make great night, weekend, and holiday pay took a beating when they discovered they could offshore that, too.

So the pain is spread around, but it doesn't make it less painful. They have to find a way to bring American jobs back to America. It doesn't do much good for the so-called global workforce to lower the price of a plasma TV if I can't even afford to buy Wonder Bread.
The only problem is, we were taking pay cuts
Do you think we'll all start getting raises from 7-8 cpl to 9-10 cpl when the times are good again? Nuh-uh. They'll just hire on more Indians, and buy more VR equipment.
Transcend Cuts Pay rates for All

Anyone else hear about the cross-the-board pay cuts for all at Transcend???  We started getting the calls today from our manangement team.  Starts October 1st.  This goes into effect whether you are brand new with the company, or if you've been with them 10 years.  Team leads are the only exceptions.  These cuts in rates are in the 30 - 35% range. There are no more shift/weekend differentials And of course, quota remains the same....you just now have to produce 35% in a night 5 nights a week to make it .  So for some....guess than means no more benefits.  This makes an overall pay rate cut for me of about 50% over the last 5 years.  (The first 20% cut came 4 years ago when they first took over the hospital where I worked --- and now this second one for approximately 35%).  Crazy, isn't ?  Where else can you work 5 years someplace and loose 55% of your pay?  I'm disgusted and discouraged.  Is MT even worth it any more?

better than Lanier - darn short-cuts! NM
q
Probably getting together to discuss line rate cuts. nm

The line cuts are happening across the board...sm
for VR. This is not just about individual MTs. I know there are a select few who roam the board thinking they are above everyone else and hence their wages will never be cut, but they are just a number in the end like everyone else.

Why is it when anyone objects to having their wages cut for VR or because India can to it cheaper, there are people like you who imply MTs deserve it? Anyone who says anything is told 'obviously you are not a good MT.' This isn't an original or compelling response. It's kind of stupid.
Short cuts go a long way with ortho. A good speed typing engine will

It just makes me sad...
I love Christmas (at least what it's SUPPOSED to be like)and you're right about the commercialism ruining it. I try to avoid the mobs if I can. We've had 2 people in this area held up at gunpoint for X-box systems! Unreal! It's fun getting together and celebrating the season with family and such, but 'tis definitely the season to be greedy.
I don't think having your CMT makes you a better

MT and I've seen CMTs who did really lowsy work.  I have never considered getting my CMT.   I have always been told that I do top quality work and at companies that do pay a differential for having your CMT, I am paid the same rate.   Some people need letters after their name for whatever reason.

What makes you think KS is any
different than the company you work for? Go ahead. Check them out, but don't come back here complaining.
Can you say what makes you think this.

I don't understand why people take the time to respond to questions but they really aren't telling you anything. If you have something to say...say it.  But please only say what you know.  I'm not interested in what one 'thinks'.  If you 'know' it...let me hear it.

Thanks.

What makes me mad? sm
When new people get hired at a higher line rate and doing easy accounts.
What makes you so sure it is YOUR job? Maybe they just need more help

Makes you wonder
The intro letter they send makes them sound like top professionals - and they waste no time in telling you how many fail their test.

But it makes you wonder when see *several* typo's in the materials that come with the tape - and then they are very lax with the testing process. Something tells me not getting my results was actually a favor in disguise. :)

WHAT MAKES YOU SO SURE
they are living in this country. Most are in INDIA and calling from INDIA!!!! Gotta give these companies credit though. They know how to hire good tech folks to set up in THE U.S.A. and they most likely live here but came from India.
Makes me wonder now..
My husband worked out of state for 3 years and they only took out taxes for that state. He says that when you work in another state, the state taxes for that particular state are the ones they take out. This is also a big co., so they should know the laws too, but if that's the case with MT, I guess you would have state taxes taken out for the state in which the co. headquarters are located. But I certainly can't speak as an expert because I have no idea, just know that's what happened in my hubby's case. It's never been an issue with me because I live in the state where my co. is based.
Makes ya wonder, don't it?

makes you wonder

I worked for a company for around 2-1/2 years, basically 7 days a week to help out.  Never got one single incentive for it, nor did I expect it because in my eyes at the time, this was as good as it got.  I also never asked for a day off while I worked there.  I was paid lower than what I've been paid at other companies, in fact, 2-3 cents lower.  I was offered more for other places, but I let personal feelings and guilt if I left them get in the way of business. I liked the personal feel of the company, as there were only about 30 transcriptionists and you had a chance to get to know your doctors--probably about 50 of them.  My skills were good because I was always told that.

I had to leave due to reasons that I didn't have any control over and got literally a 1 sentence reply 3 days later.  Said basically ok, no thank you, no good luck, no nothing.  I still worked my 2 weeks afterwards.  My reason wasn't a run of the mill lame excuse either.  This was my first thanks.  I felt like dirt after sending it and was sick about it for about a week before I did.  I  certainly didn't want them to say oh, please stay because I couldn't have even if I wanted to. I just expected a more grown up response from someone who could definitely write professionally.

Things have since cleared up and I have been back in the job market for about 2 months, so I sent my resume to them and re-applied.  I figured, I liked working there, they liked me--had a great platform, why not?  Well, this was over a month ago and never received an I'm sorry Sharon, we don't need anyone at this time.  I figured, you can give an old employee that much acknowledgement, especially when it comes from a familiar e-mail and you KNOW they've read it as soon as they received e-mail notification because they, from personal experience, always got back to your e-mails within seconds.

I don't expect anyone to kiss my butt, but a little bit of graditude from a place where you aren't just a number, where you are like family, I guess I expected a little more.  Am I wrong?

I have gotten more heartfelt e-mails from companies I have been with less time than that.

Moral of my story:  They don't care about you, so if you don't have to, I wouldn't worry about sacrficing your family, life, and health to care about them.

I have found a better place who won't use me for my time or under pay me or EXPECT that I be at my computer all day every day to help them.

Thanks for listening,
Sharon

What makes you....
so in the know that you look at other people's work. I work there and there are no names on jobs...just MT numbers. I have been there for more than 3 years, was not a newbie when I started, and like it there just fine. I do not brown nose, and do not speak to anyone. It log on, work, and log off. I pass all my QA reviews have absolutely no problems with QA. It is beyond me how all you whiners and complainers know so much about everyone that works there...I would imagine you spent more time gossiping and spreading rumors while there than actually working.
Wow that makes my day - thanks!
as to sensible comments - anyone seen my prozac?
Really makes you wonder huh?

This is just one example of how we as at-home MTs do not really know who we are working for?  This sounds like the ultimate bait and switch.

I don't know about CS but SSc makes you buy...sm

a pedal off the web.  Seems like only a specified brand ($139 .. at a special MT discount will work with their program (LOL).  This isn't specified in their job posting, though.

What makes anyone think only MTs are having this done??
This is a common practice now for jobs of every description, not just in our field. Someone said if I were in their spot might not like, I took bankruptcy years ago and did not buy ANYTHING on credit for years. When I once again tried, had clean slate and like I was starting all over. When I was low on money, I worked several jobs in order to pay my bills then and brought my credit back up to an excellent number now. I have been there (probably worse than most of you now with my bankruptcy) so it can be done and I do not AGAIN mind people checking.
what makes you think they have only 1?
nm
What makes them think someone will
They snooze, they lose.
That makes 2 of us!

They said they sent me an email to download start up but i haven't gotten a thing!

so that makes it right?

My DH is an IT IC and makes far more. Where...
did you hear that?
What makes you think I'm a man? Just by my name?..
It actually means I am a Steely Dan fan...No, I don't work for free but I don't sit home and whine that no one appreciates me, won't give me an atta girl, you are awesome, what can I give you to make you feel some worth in your life! How about just clocking in, doing your job the best you can and not relying on someone having to pat your behind telling you that you are good enough and special? No wonder so many of you are on antidepressants, weight loss drugs, insomnia pills. Grow up and be women, do your job for 8 hours and let it go!
That makes 2 of us (sm)
I can't imagine trying to work under those conditions and, unless it's a very poor quality VR system she works on, I'm leaning toward too many MTs doing their own thing with personal preference, style, expanding when not dictated as such, etc., that are just creating havoc with her VR system.

I get really annoyed when I start seeing kilograms or milligrams popping up, when the client profile says to use abbreviations and the VR system had been trained that way, and suddenly the expanded forms start popping through because one or more MTs are overriding the system.

I cannot fathom having to rework every single sentence of a report without pulling my hair out in frustration!
What makes you different, you are saying
not for those of us in this category. Do you think a bunch of only dumb bunnies work on VR and cannot make a go of anything else? What do you think makes you in a special group? When transcribing straight I did every bit as much as you per day if not more. Where do you get us in this category?
It makes me wonder...
When I first posted on this site it was to warn others of a company that has and is still not paying employees for the work they do. It was for no more and no less of a reason than to fairly warn some people who are out there looking for work.

I have been in this field for over 3 decades and I am sick to death of watching the MTSOs negate our education, our foundation and our work ethics by doing things like sending work overseas, over hiring to clear an account and then letting those people sit with no work and no income or not paying them at all. What happened to treating people with your conscience and recognizing them for the work and loyalty that they put into the company they were hired to work for? What happened to banding together to keep our industry honest and inviting to people who are looking for a field to go into? What happened to plain decency?

Anyway - I digress. The bottom line is that I came on here to warn people of a company who is not paying their employees for whatever reason. Take it - leave it - no one forces anyone to read these comments or act on them. I did my part. Good luck and God bless!
It makes me sad too
I thought this was a profession that I could retire from, but obviously that's not the case the way things are going. I've decided to go back to school for nursing soon, as I can't make enough money to support my family the way things are going. So I just need to hang on for a little while longer in the MT field. I just don't know if I should take the job offer with the other company or not - I guess I just don't want to go from the frying pan into the fire so to speak.
It makes me sad, too

When I first started there, it was great. MT week and Christmas, we always got a gift certificate. This year, nothing.

I signed up for the 401K because they were supposed to match it. So far nothing.

I went to VR because I wanted to learn and it was great at first. Then the push to get more and more on VR. Now, there's rarely enough work.

I would love to leave, but I have no choice but to stay. I have to keep robbing Peter to pay Paul and it would only get worse if I left. My pay, since the push, has dropped $500 a pay period. Part of that is my fault. I no longer flex as much as I used to. After a certain time of the day, I'm worn out, plus have other priorities after my scheduled hours. There is no way I can flex any longer.

Another reason is that I can retire if I want. I've been holding off and hoping things would get better, but it's looking more and more like that will be my only option. The push is on for all companies to do VR, not just TT, so I certainly don't want to jump from the frying pan to the fire again.

I'm sure there is one somewhere who makes
line count and is content, but if you read the archives and see all the problems with thi company I can't believe anyone would think twice about applying.  They are constantly hiring because they can't keep anyone.  Worst company I ever worked for.
Ah-so! That makes sense.
Hope you get the answers you're looking for--pass along any info if you would, please. I'm interested, too!
