Thought TX was "at will" employment?? or fire/quit immediately w/o reason

I think it must be getting to be PARTY TIME at these companies right now..nm

I think that may be one reason for the slow response from companies right now.

Companies close old and gain new contracts all the time. (SM)
Stop rumoring.

If you have information, share with the Administrator or myself. Otherwise, leave rumoring off the board.

This is the second time I quit MQ and it
will be the last. I was so much better off at KS and just didn't know it. Won't make that mistake again! R.I.P. MQ!
I have quit there my third and last time
Stick a fork in me, I'm done.
LOCKED ON POSTER REQUEST...
Need I say more. You are a goof! Thanks for the laugh.
Thanks..That is about the time I quit so sounds like they got that together.
That's a good sign. I believe companies can change bad habits and I think people need to give them a chance.
Time to secretly find a new job and then quit on em!
.
they called me one time 9 months after I had quit
still just as disorganized as ever
Once you've peeved QA, is it time to quit?
I started a new job and, as something of a side note, it turned out to be a bait and switch where after the first week, they don't actually have the work I was hired for, and instead put me on a different secondary account. QA, being QA, was having their little version of fun and I was getting contradictory corrections on various reports, which I just let slide, let them play..put in their semicolons, split their infinitives, have unmatched noun/verb number. However, I got a couple back where they changed what I typed in a big way that actually made it a critical medical difference, and those I took to the supervisor (pt came was given dopamine and pressor support in the ICU to maintain BP because of her HYPOtension, but QA changed it to HYPERtension several places in the ICU course....duh!).

Anyway, since then, there's something of a vendetta against me in QA. I dropped the word on (the patient was put the operating table) and they tagged it a critical error and docked it 2 percentage points. If I take a sentence 4 lines long and split it up, they dock me. If I number a list (meds, dxs, etc) without the dictator specifically saying it, I'm docked. If I don't number the list, I'm docked. If I put the diagnoses in a list, I'm docked. If I leave the diagnoses in a paragraph, I'm docked.

I've asked the QA supervisor for specific guidelines as to how they assign error scores (sorry, my dropping 'on', while a mistake, I don't think falls into the critical error as it does not change the medical integrity of the report). I still have not heard back from the QA supe as to how they qualify the errors.

Since I'm pretty sure that this place, like any other place, is going to circle the wagons when a new interloper dares question their methods, is it time to throw in the towel? The work is okay...it's not the easy breezy stuff that I signed up for, but it's not really hard. Would you just say scrooge this, I can be abused anywhere or would you stick around just to avoid the job-hopping?

PS: This is a second job....almost amusingly, I'm part of QA at my other one.
This belongs on Technical board; thread locked.

I had no problems working yesterday, but today I'm completely locked out ... sm
The suggestions given by MDI's tech support have not worked for me, and I haven't been able to work all day. I see that I just received another email from them. Maybe I'll have good luck with this suggestion.
The "lead" probably quit if she had to spend her time begging for workers...sm
Doubt she was demoted - leads are too hard to come by.  She probably quit management so she could get lines herself, or quit completely because she got tired of having to constantly recruit for accounts that were understaffed.
This is not unusual

Many companies do this however, there are many who do not.  Other companies may not dock you for errors, but will terminate you if you do not meet a certain QA percentage after a certain amount of time.  Please bear in mind that if you are assigned to an account with lots of ESLs and ESLs are not your specialty, you may have blanks.  Your overall score may end up being less than their required percentage of accuracy and you'll constantly get docked.

You may want to find out more about the account you would be working on if you were to take the position.  You have to be a very quality minded person.  This may not be the best deal for you if you are fairly new to transcription.

They are a third party
that tries to save companies out there money. They have yet another company that does audits to really tighten the pursestrings. You go to their web site to get your line count. You get what you get, whether its fair or not.
But this is NOT unusual...sm
MOST employers require their employees to work for a year before they provide paid vacation, not just transcription employers. EVERY job I have EVER had required 1 year of work before paid vacation, even fast food, so, this IS the norm! So, again....DUH!
Why would it be unusual to (sm)

audit someone during training?  Isn't that what training is for?  How would a person get out of training if their quality was bad?

Maybe I am misunderstanding this.

Why would that be so unusual? nm

pity party
Bummer. I sent my resume to KS and filled out the email questionnaire. They confirmed they received it. It's been over 2 weeks and nothing. I've got the experience and talent, but I guess I just have bad timing. I was really looking forward to moving on and they were my first choice. Oh well - c'est LA vie. I just wanted to feel sorry for myself for a while. Thanks friends, for letting me whine.
hold up on that party

you may need it later.

Don't know the company, of course, but this is not unusual. sm
In many of these companies, the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. I've been waiting 5 weeks to start with one company, but that's a record. It frequently takes 1-2 weeks to get everything ironed out. Don't panic yet, you are only one of many people the Acct. Mgr. is dealing with, probably many of them new. Usually you have a little while to get things ironed out before they will worry about you putting in all your time. Good luck.
No pity party here
Thanks. You wouldn't know this and I'm sure you don't give two hoots, but, yes, I absolutely did start looking as soon as I realized I was in trouble, as you put it.

You don't know anything about it, and, honestly, I've had it with your posts. I won't say you're mean, because you seem to actually like being called mean. So I won't say that, don't want to give you the satisfaction.

I just think it's time for you to shut the pie hole now.

Karma is a complete and total you-know-what, and you've more than earned your share of it coming right back to you just by posting the kinds of things you have to me and other posters.

So when that special time comes for you, you'll get the emotional support you need here, undoubtedly, because that's how the REST of us are here. But keep in mind, there just may be a few who haven't walked in your shoes yet who will say the same things to you that you have to others.

Just remember that what goes around, comes around, and you've certainly earned your comeuppance....some day, some how, somewhere.

Maybe it won't have anything to do with MT, who knows, but whatever it is, baby, you've sure earned it....

Can't say how I know..third party source..
but I just looked at their site and I don't see where it says they don't offshore work...they do. Yes, they are US based but they do send work offshore.
Where I work, they had a party and
had door prizes which were envelopes with different amts of money and you picked one. For those not there, they put everyone else's name in a hat and drew for the envelopes left.
Weird, but not all that unusual unfortunately.
This makes people feel even more disconnected. I think most people who work at home don't want to be interrupted by a lot of extraneous chatter - and perhaps a few would even be happy if they didn't hear anything from one year to the next but those are the exceptions.

A very different problem is when you only hear about your screwups - otherwise, you just get silence on the wire.

Both modes (dead silence and 'no news is good news') of communications violate everything we've learned over the years about work-related social interactions - and in my opinion, both of them are extremely unhealthy. In fact, they're both evidence of bad management.
You are indeed an unusual person
if you are happy with a $15,000 decrease in your earnings over 3 years....considering the price of EVERYTHING you purchase has gone UP, unless you know something I don't know.  My husband and I are on a fixed income and we notice the price of EVERYTHING goes up it seems on a daily basis except for our retirement checks.
A very unusual question. You on a fishing
expedition for compliments?
wrong party.. this was to Anna

Who said the OP wanted a pity party?
aa
I don't see anyone asking for a pity party. I make way more
Leave the OP alone. She's only venting. You've said your peace, she posted an update, so why do you keep posting over and over the same insulting, degrading posts to her? Sheesh, what a sad, sorry, cranky, miserable person you appear to be!

To the OP, good luck to you! :)
it is not unusual for a bank to hold a
check over a certain amount for up to a week.
Not unusual, but some of the crappy companies
force MTs to work weekend days rather than simply hiring part-timers for weekend work like most companies do.
Okay.. It is just so unusual to see anyone on this board so excited to hear about a new job.. Maybe
we've all just become too cynical. They must be newbies though. Boy oh boy has the newness of jobs wore off. I have been looking but I just never get that excited. I just think, oh, I just hope this one is better than the last bad experience. It is hard not to get cynical sometimes, isnt it? We all just want a place to call home and there is just so much disappointment out there. I was impressed that they were so excited and couldnt wait to here from PMSI.. oh well back to my drawing board. I guess time will tell if it is everything they were hoping for.
You wanted attention and a pity party.

You got it from the other posters, but I'm the bully.  Okay....  I'm being called grinch and bully, but I'm not the nasty one here????

Some people just don't want to be helped, they want a handout!

I just quit Medquist, hired by Etrans and quit them after one afternoon during the last two weeks!sm
Medquist made me buy a new computer to go to the "Docuscribe" system that was so much better than cottage.  When I got there I took a real big pay cut to the tune of probably 30 to 40%.  I was getting paid gross lines doing Cedars-Sinai operative reports.  I asked for more per line and my supervisor just laughed and said you think were going to pay you $0.12 a line to just do operative reports!  I said I quit.  I should have said F you and your mamma too:(  I had been there all together 7 years through buyouts.  I am just sick of it all.  I'm going to go sew my daughter a cute little Halloween outfit right now.
Nope, haven't noticed a thing different or unusual. All's well here. nm
xx
Ha … wouldn't I love that. There'd be a big party at my place this weekend! :-) nm

contracts
Everyone should keep in mind contracts work both ways. If the company voids the contract in anyway - nonpayment, late pay if stated in the contract a date it is to be - then the entire contract is void. If you have a problem, go through the yellow pages for a free consult with an attorney - but the contract is not just for them it is for you too - so if it states you are to do 1000 lines a day and they do not offer it up, if the wording is proper - they voided the contract not you. If a company says the payday if Friday and you do not recieve it within a standard mail delivery date, they have voided the contract. So yes please everyone review what they sign to see if you can get what you deserve. So many of us just take it, I say get some legal advice - Lawyers hand it out like candy. If we dont - they will continue to bounce checks, pay late, decrease workloads, etc.
contracts
Tried to email you privately but it would not go through. can you send to my email and let me know company name you mean. I would like to know if it is the same one. thank you.
contracts
Anybody have this experience? I was just offered work from a company that sounded wonderful, just what I needed. No set schedule, work anytime, just set number of lines. Then I got the contract which stated basically paid on the 15th and 30th assuming payment received from client. What? I should do the work for their business and then they don't have to pay me until their client pays, if their client pays. I don't think so. The contract obviously precludes the MT from contacting the client so how do I know if the MTSO got paid or not or when they got paid. Just looking for other people's thoughts on this. Am I being paranoid? Have you ever been asked to sign such a contract? I have seen many postings on this board about people not being paid, and I do not want to be in that situation. I do the work for XXX Company. Doesn't XXX company owe me that money either way. I feel it is their responsibility to pay for work done for their company and THEN deal with the client for any nonpayment issues. What do you think? I politely told them I could not sign the contract with that statement included and asked them to reconsider their position, explaining my feelings on the subject.
contracts
Without reading the contracts, I would say that they need to give notice to change it, unless there is a clause in the original contract that they can change it at will. If you see a clause like that don't sign it.

RE: CONTRACTS
Right ... employees, IC or employee status, should have some type of contract with their employer.  But who usually writes the contract?  How many contracts presented by the MTSO actually allow for input from the MT?  For the most part, they are WORTHLESS, often detrimental, to the MT, since they are almost always one-sided favoring you know who.
contracts
Do you then sign a contract you disagree with? I don't understand doing that.

When I'm given a contract, I surely do take my pen and cross out what I do not agree to, add in what I want agreed to, and sign it.

This at the very least opens the door to negotiation of what I see as issues I can't work with. I've turned down contracts where the MTSO wasnt willing to negotiate to meet my terms. And more often than not, the MTSOs have been willing to work with me.
contracts
You can give direction to a contractor. You can tell the plumber you work until noon so he needs to fix your bathtub between 1 and 5. You can tell him you can only have a plumber there on Monday.

Most ICs do not ever bother SUBMITTING a contract to a service, which is just insanity. Instead, they kowtow to the demands of a service (treating them as employees), then kvetch when they aren't treated as ICs.

Education and knowing how to conduct BUSINESS is seemingly lost among way too many MTs.
Who did she fire?
Can you give the initials? Just curious.  I keep seeing the e-mails coming through for quality department positions.  I wondered what was up.
Did they actually tell you they would fire you?
I am ignoring the paperwork until pushed. How do they know I even got it? My attorney says that arbitration agreement would not stand up in a court of law anyhow.
They cannot fire you just because you
are pregnant. There would have to be a cause as you are an employee. It is discrimination if they get rid of you just because you are expecting.
You need to negotiate better contracts.
.
Depends on Contracts
I do not know whether the contract specifies only that the work be done in US, or that the provider not outsource at all. If so, that could void contracts. But at any rate, they will still need us US employees to do the work.
They can't fire an ex-employee.
nm
where there's smoke there's fire!

Obviously more than one person has come forward and said they were told work is going to India.  The person who told me was not a "mere" MT.  Everyone knows they're sending work to India but no one on this site is going to stand by their promise of USA companies only!  I'm sure Webmedx is not far from turning into another Medware and trying to turn all us MTs in to janitors to clean by the C**P that these Indians put out.  This is just another example of the big companies turning our jobs over to India and then waving their flags trying to hide what they are about.  I can't believe this site actually expects companies to "publish" they're stabbing us in the back while they're smiling to our faces asking us to come to work for them (until they decide they want editors and not MTs).

Wake up Administrator!  No one is going to admit they're the "bad guys"!  When are we Americans going to start standing up for own jobs!!
