I've been an MT, an instructor, a recruiter, a trainer, a QA editor. The two are vastly different. If you think they're the same, then it's basically revealing of your lack of exposure to a wide variety of work.

It's also not a self-righteous thing that the acute care workers are telling you and others that it's not the same thing. There's a place for people who are good at clinic work and acute care work, respectively. However, they are certainly very different. Managers know this, which is why they ask for people to fill positions based on their experience.
