On the contrary, I find your post refreshing and true. sm

I agree whole-heartedly that MTSOs AND MTs are in it for a paycheck. It's not personal. If you don't like your employer's treatment, find another company where their style is more to your liking.

i find it kind of refreshing...
She is to the point, gives the bottom line, and lets you choose to pursue the job or not, no time wasted on her or your end. It seems she's had experience with this and doesn't want to waste valuable time that could be spent elsewhere... my mentor who got me started 20+ years ago told me that for every 100 applicants, maybe 1 would be qualified, so I can relate to this person's statements...
what a clear, honest and refreshing post, thanks, Alice..nm

True, but if you can only do that - you need to find another job
x
I don't find that to be true --
I work for them and our account keeps expanding so they have to keep hiring to keep up with the work.  We almost always have OT available to us right now.  I've been on this account for almost a year and have only had a slow day once or twice.
I sure didn't find that to be true - sm
My acct is about 10% ESL, my secondary is about 25% ESL. I know that your line rate is based on the difficulty (ESL) level of the account. Miss Willy might have had a poor experience, but the other 550 MTs working there (some for many years) are not so bad.
i don't find that to be true, i work there & haven't had problems with pay. sm
never have i encountered disorganization or rude people so far. maybe things have changed or wrong company?
on the contrary!
I think it's possible she/he did that. Like I said, I made nearly $60,000 one yr. BUT, it was an acc't. I was completely familiar with, good dictators, lots of normals, and I had my shortcuts maxed out, plus worked nonstop. But as I also said, not worth the aches and pains. I was also working in WordPerfect at the time and able to put several reports in 1 document, which meant a lot too, so I guess the program is a big issue too. I'm still trying to figure out why so many people come to this board just to be nasty. And by the way, I don't feel inferior to anyone. I know what I can and can't do and am very comfortable with that. Maybe you should examine your own feelings of inadequacy.
On the contrary, I do get what you are saying
I was responding to the LOL post. I understand what you are saying about the thoughtfulness factor. On the other hand, I hesitate to interpret a small, no-thought-involved gift as an insult, exactly. I'm with you, I'm one who would appreciate a letter of recognition, too, but there's plenty who don't and I've worked with quite a few of them. I remember getting a small gift one lean year and a very nice letter from the employer and many of my co-workers were griping that words cost nothing and that the gift was cheap. (Nevermind that it was thoughtful, apparently.) And with the perceived problems with wishing people a happy holiday (thanks to the media), I think a lot of people have just quit bothering. It's a darn shame.
On the contrary...
On the contrary, not entirely.  She is still condescending if you make the smallest of mistake.  Very accusatory and unprofessional when something does arise.  This was not so long ago, like, just in the past couple of weeks.  So, it does still happen.
I was hoping you would. Contrary to SM

what some people think, everyone participating on this board does not wish ill will toward a fellow MT.  For what it's worth, I think you are making the right decision and you are correct - if there's no work at all, it doesn't really matter what they are paying.  It all amounts to a big goose egg.

I doubt very much anything wonderful will happen with TT - it will just get worse and at least you'll be ahead of the game.

Contrary to the uninformed posts below, there are
jobs like this out there. I used to work for a company who did mostly overflow & would let you work whenever you wanted, but they've since been bought out by one of the huge corporations. Hopefully someone on here can give you some leads. Otherwise, you could email your resume around stating you're looking for p.r.n. work. Good luck!
Wow, let me know if you find that post
I'd like to see that post if you can find it.
Here's the only post I find about them ...

I mean the 3rd post below this is true.

Your post is so very true! sm
Unfortunately, in my 25+ years in this profession, I have never had a dream job. I have had my own local accounts and worked for several MTSOs over the years. We all receive our share of garbage dictators, as well as wonderful dictators. Currently, I have days where I receive nothing but terrible dictators who take me twice as long to type as my better accounts. On these days, I may make under 100 dollars. There are other days where I can make much more than that when I have fluent speaking dictators and easier accounts. I found over the years, both having MTs work for me, and working for MTSOs, a versatile MT who can take the good with the bad, is the most valuable MT. You not only benefit yourself with learning many doctors and specialties, but you also become valuable to the company, and likely to be kept long-term. I can remember working 12-14 hours per day 6 days per week for years. This dedication and perseverance not only helped me make money, but continually educated me while making me a valuable asset to the company. There is no way I could ever type this many hours now, as my hands, wrist, and neck will not permit it. For any of you who are unhappy with your company after knowing you have given your all, research other companies because most (I know not all) will appreciate a qualified, experienced, and hard working MT. Good luck to all in these trying times.
Try to find a positive post here
Sorry, but I don't know about the schools. I got into transcription from being in the medical field.

I don't blame you for not wanting to hear the negative. I am sick to death of seeing this negative stuff as well. I checked in here looking for samples and mistakenly decided to answer a post from someone who asked for a company recommendation. I complimented OSi for standing by me through hard times, then got mortally raked over the coals for doing that. No company is perfect but neither am I.

This board is filled with people criticizing OSi, other companies, and other people. I hope you can get an answer to your question. I have had enough of disgruntled people on this board.
See post above about not being told to find another job
and then decide how wonderful they are.   Shannon is a real class act (NOT!) to work with.
please tell me why you find it necessary to dissect every post-sm
and be so cruel for someone making a type. What is wrong with you??? I for one don't proofread everything I post on here. I can just imagine how you treat people in person.
I checked and could not find my post.

Sometimes you can find an old post by doing a search.

I think the post you are referring to was from 11-28, and is probably on page 2 by now.  It was from the owner of AAmT where she wrote:

We are currently in the transition phase of taking on business from another company.   Therefore, please do not be confused if you call the office number and hear Synthescribe.   Synthescribe is a corporation in Nashville who provides offshore labor solutions to health care providers in conjunction with onshore.   AAmT is acquiring service contracts of Synthescribe's and will be providing 100% US labor solutions to these clients.   I personally look forward to building a team of qualified US MTs and editors to support these health care facilities.   They are thrilled about the fact we will be providing onshore services under AAmT's leadership.

Hope that helps clear things up for you.

Happy Holidays

Thanks for your post, I did find a "true IC" job which I took then...sm
and have been very happy with ever since, real freedom, great people, great system to work with......I think I applied, tested, interviewed, etc, with at least 20 to 30 companies before I was blessed to find the right one for me....don't EVER be afraid to interview the company and recruiter vigorously, talk to folk who have worked there, Google as much info as you can, be sure your info is fairly new.....yes, recruiters are the cheerleaders for the company, understandably, i was able to not only speak with the recruiter, but with the MTSO/owner/boss, and she even game ME referenes for her companies, other MTs working for her (she had their permission for this), all in all, best of luck and take your time evaluating!
I find your post amusing
Why in the world if someone posts on here speaking lovingly of VR, does that automatically mean they are not doing the same job as you and I (transcription)? I worked for years and years straight typing and several times I had people come into the office at the hospital where I worked and would seek me out wanting to watch me type because I typed so fast. To assume that anyone loving only is slow is a total myth and all in their minds. I type 130 or more an hour. I did not ask to go to VR and was really upset when told the hospital where working was going to that. I had worked for the hospital 13 years when VR came along for us. I wanted to stay with the same hospital and dictators. After trained on VR, then came the outsourcing for our department. Well by this time I was up in age, middle 50s and frankly I did not want to hit the pavement trying to find another job. I knew nothing about MTSOs or the like because had always in my MTing years just worked in hospitals doing this type of work. I now am going into my 19th year working still for the same hospital still in the same town, the only difference is my employer is located thousands of miles away. I love VR because I make a good salary, still fast (get some occasional straight because there are interns that dictate from the hospital) but I stayed with VR because of the above reasons. Believe me, not everyone who loves has to be an owner. Never an owner and do not care for a headache like that. I for one second do not doubt the person's typing speed. In the 80s I made almost $70,000 for the year, not bad for a slow typist, huh?
How was her post rude? True, she does
seem a little snotty, not wanting to start apparently at the bottom of the totem pole where newbies do, and not fully realizing that the workflow in this business waxes and wanes, but she was not rude. Just extremely inexperienced.

Guess I missed it.
Your post is so well written and so true...
I realized that saying something really will not make any difference and venting my frustration has made me feel better. I really can understand where you have been and know that everything happens for a reason and the way you handle each and every situation in life defines you as a person. I am going to stick it out for now, but have an offer from another company I am really contemplating, as I will be back doing my specialty of reports and maybe can finally get some decent lines again, as I really like to be able to eat out once in a while. ;oD
All of the replying post is true.
Even if you do meet your line count by the 3rd pay period but don't meet it later because there is no work to transcribe, you still get the nasty grams and phone calls and told to work 24/7 to stay employed. The MTs who don't have this problem are given preference in order to help them make their line counts, thus reducing the work volume of everyone else.

They also just completely changed their insurance, reduccing benefits and raising the employee portion with only about a 10-day notice.
above post is very true regarding Bayscribe nm
nm
Sorry, meant for *not true* post (nm)
xx
Yes, I was hesitating saying this in my post before, but this is true,
doctors use their handwritten chart notes and their notes.
Also in almost all 3rd world countries.
Thanks, that was me, but could not find so thought I forgot to post nmI
.
I find your post embarrassing and offensive as well.

How wonderfully refreshing -
Someone who believes we are all real people!! I am really wary now about companies because I gave my all for 5 years with a company working 60 or more hours a week that entire time as an IC. Someone not show up today? Assign it to me. Someone not able to do ESLs? Give them to me. What did I end up with? Being shown the door because the paranoid office manager thought I was after her job!
It's so refreshing to see other companies

discussed rather than the same old big companies all the time. Keep it up!

X-Press' website says they have over 400 MTs. Is this true? Your post sm
says a small group of co-workers. I am considering working for them but I am getting conflicting answers, which worries me.
Very nice post - all true statements! - nm
nm
QTers - post previously true
Thank you to whoever had courage to post about QT losing their large account, for all I know their only account at this point.  I had for months heard rumors of the work going to outsourcing and now our latest check sure looks like an Indian had signed it.  So figured work would always be light and would have to supplement.  But thanks to kindness of a stranger posting where the account is going, I won't miss a beat with a paycheck and with an account I have worked on for a long time.   So if those of you were doubting whether it was true, it is true and I believe they are still hiring for more positions at the company that starts with W.  Good luck to everybody.  How could such a good company go down the pooper so fast?
This post is true. Pay attention people. nm
x
The pay is very low and they also offshore. If I can find the link, I'll post it.
.
If you find the original post so offensive, why did you respond at all?

Why don't you get a clue?  A good number of people enjoyed this.  If you dislike it, you can just move on to some rosy-happy-fun filled post and leave the rest of us to chuckle without being harassed.

I am so impressed. What a refreshing change. Thank you!

Your honesty is refreshing,Tonya.
Thank you for posting, and thanks for being so forthright.
Good post, Amber. And true, too. All professions
restructuring.  But anyone with eyes can see that even though the MT profession has changed, there's still a TON of work out there.  You know, it behooves the employers out there to have doom and gloom run rampant and the MTs thinking that they can't do any better than 6-8 cpl.  Sometimes I wonder if they're the ones spreading most of the doom and gloom, and then some naive MTs are picking it up and shouting it too!
Post here in Jan. 2007 said they have mandatory overtime. Is this true?
s
GREAT post. So true. I've been in this business
for 30 years, and never ever had more than an hour or 2 with no work. Not acceptable and doesn't happen to me. I work my behind off, am fantastic at this, and not 1 employer has ever done that to me, and probably never will. Just like you said, if I hit no work, I call and straighten the situation out. Don't ask questions about the account, about what MT can or can't transcribe it, just state that no work is not gonna fly with me, and I am always treated with respect and instantly given work, which I also thank my bosses for. Give and take - it goes both ways. I'm there when they expect me, and I'm there when they need me, and we're all happy. Can you imagine some MTs getting ANGRY at you? Again, another scream or throw up reaction from me. Some of you MTs really need some psychoanalysis, if you know what that is...obviously your income is NOT a necessity, and this is probably a job for you and not a career. You get out of MTing what you give and what you expect, nothing more, nothing less. Expect to be treated like garbage, expect slave wages, expect no work, expect disrespect, and you'll get it, and it seems like many MTs are looking for this! Thus the continual postings asking about companies we all know STINK. There is no other explanation - you want to be kicked to the curb and probably put little effort into your life across the board. Such a shame.
your post doesn't make much sense. Find another job then? That's what the rest of us do!

I like your attitude...Common sense is so refreshing!!! (NM)
:D
The lazyMT was from a prior post about testing..NOT about my personal habits. I find it odd that you
would reply with someone so insignificant and to which no one cares about your opinion.  You don't know me and you certainly have no idea if I am lazy in regards to my lifestyle habits so go back where you came from, troll..
Great post and very true! I read these today and was amazed that someone's first thought was pay
I agree that circumstances can make loans necessary but the OP sounded more like she uses these on a regular basis. No I'll have to learn to budget for the difference, just oh no, now I need to go to Payday Loans and pay 400% interest.

We have the potential to earn what we need to, although sometimes lately it is harder and harder.

Good for all of you. Wish I had seen these earlier.

p.s. Can someone call and tell my BIL to grow up too?
It is refreshing to see Job Posts offering 10.5 cpl and 12 cpl on weekends and Holidays. sm

On the job board, SA Wynn Inc is hiring and sound pretty decent.  The pay sounds great compared to the others.  Go for it!

I know nothing about them, as I am on the East Coast, but I was happy to see the line rates going up from 7 cpl from the other posts.

Trust me.. I have come from a lot of "crappy" jobs that is why it was so refreshing to hear so
excitement over the possibility of another job.. one that may be a great hidden treasure. I just think it is great when people never lose that newbie enthusiam even after some not-so-great experiences. I admire you totally and best wishes.. I hope this is the job you have looked for..If so, sign me up LOL
