QA - Not for me

I did in-house Q.A. for just a couple of months and don't believe I'd ever do it again.

I found it extremely frustrating in that I could see many of the MTs were spending no time at all trying to produce a QUALITY report but were instead jamming every report through as quickly as possible for QUANTITY. These MTs weren't even being paid by the line; we were all on hourly pay, yet it was apparent they spent little to no time researching anything and would just blank something rather than put even minimal effort into research.

As I also worked in direct proximity with the MTs, I'm sorry to say I began to lose respect for a few of them very quickly. The ones who whined the loudest about how diligently they worked and how fastidious they were...those were the ones usually making little or no effort to produce a clean report, and I began to see those MTs in a different, unfavorable light when QA'ing their reports.

Maybe your situation will be different. Maybe mine would have been different had it not been for the fact that MTs with 20+ years experience were more interested in their line count at the end of the day than quality or patient care. As I said, these MTs were hourly employees so there was just no justification for slamming through reports of substandard quality (not that being paid per line is a justification either, but it does make the behavior a bit more understandable).

I think it takes a special type of personality to do QA and not become exasperated and jaded. It certainly wasn't a good fit for me.

Good luck with your decision!!!
