Returned after a decade away from MT

Posted By: Thank you QA on 2008-09-12
In Reply to: QA point of view - I am QA

I was in my own house and the div was proceeding. Now, I needed a job. Had been an MT from age 19 to 33 years of age. Only made sense to return since I had no other skills that could earn me a decent income. MQ and QA got me back here.

EMR has been around for over a decade...
It took forever to catch on because the hospitals and docs did not have the technology and didn't budget for it...don't blame Obama because the medical industry is finally catching up.
oh, you made my decade!!!
My stated my sentiments very well! The only other thing I would add is that with CB at her side, D went down hill fast. Something about lying down with fleas comes to mind...
Like I said, I'll take my decade of first-hand knowledge of her over

Stated Goal: Eliminate MTs this decade

Most are already aware (it is pretty obvious), but because some still refuse to open their eyes, I am posting the below from the Nuance website.  It is actually a timeline of the Dictaphone Corporation's history, which is pretty interesting and goes back to Alexander Graham Bell.

Still, I find it noteworthy that they state in no uncertain terms that they want to "eliminate most manual transcription for healthcare in North America this decade."

"A major development took place in February 2006 when Burlington-Massachusetts-based Nuance Communications announced that it would acquire Dictaphone in a cash deal worth $357 million. In a news release Nuance Chairman and CEO Paul Ricci commented on the acquisition, which was completed by the end of March, stating: 'The combined resources, experience and talents of Nuance and Dictaphone will help accelerate the adoption of speech recognition to eliminate most manual transcription for healthcare in North America this decade, delivering over $5 billion in savings to care facilities and transcription service organizations.'

Under new parentage, Dictaphone was named a division of Nuance--the Dictaphone Healthcare Solutions division--and Schwager was named its president.

gosh -- it's been over a decade since I've heard of anyone being sued ....
I could understand if they wanted to fire people who they felt were bad actors or had bad atttitudes, but I've never understood how/why they'd sue individuals for expressing their opinion -- unless they could prove that there was deliberate misrepresentation going on --- and I personally cannot imagine why anyone would try to make any MT company look artificially worse -- so many have such real problems -- like overstaffing, crappy platforms, lousy supervisors, crazy-making QA departments -- endlessly -- and so on

I remember when I first started with a national years ago (not TT) and discovering that they had sued MTs for posting over at MT Daily -- I couldn't imagine why they'd bother. Even then there was more competition for really good workers (who might chose to work elsewhere based on some internet postings) than there seems to be these days ...

What a waste! Better they all clean up their practices and spend the money doing some employee satisfaction polling ...
Something is fishy if the email is returned and you
respond directly to the one sent to you. I would just forget trying to contact them. It sounds too strange.
It isn't a solution after you've already returned
the computer.  I was glad to get rid of it, but I want my money.
Deposit on computer/not returned
I had a laptop from them and when they returned my deposit it was minus $150 nonrefundable deposit which I had not been informed of when I requested a laptop.  Had I known that my full deposit would not be refunded, I would not have requested one.  I agree with the post about working 12 hours a day whether there was work or not and even if there was work, it took that long just to get in your 7 or 8 hours of actual typing time.  It was a nightmare.
Seascript - anyone get returned e-mail
xx
If you send an email and it is not returned as (sm)
undeliverable, would you kindly pass the email on to me? Mine just came back as undeliverable. Hmmmmm. Feeling not to sure about this place......

Thanks in advance.
That's not true. There are other accounts that have returned. sm
Possibly you no longer work there? Because otherwise you would know that a client who left to try another major transcription company has since returned in full force with a full contract, as has another. Also, a current client has recently signed on more clinics. There is a LOT of work now.
Webmedx returned deposit no problems! nm
Webmedx is a reputable company; not sure why you are worried but thought you might like to know I received my deposit without a single problem.
Spheris requires $250 deposit, which is returned to you when
xxx
One client went to India, did it 2 weeks and then returned. sm
The quality was so bad they considered it a lesson learned. So they came back and then gave us even more work than we had before. They called it a lesson learned.
I applied, tested, returned my paperwork and NOTHING.. no followup ...NOTHING

Disorganization is my number 1 pet peeve and reason for NOT going any further with a company. I used my time to apply and test and fax paperwork back so you'd think they could have done their part and at least followed up. I could even assume that maybe they didn't get my paperwork, that does happen with fax machines, but you would have thought someone would have emailed, called, something to ask where it was. I would not accept a position with a company like that. My thoughts are this....if they are so unorganized that they cannot receive the paperwork and get you going, then am I sure that I will get my checks on time and that they will not get ignored or put aside. So, for me, I'd give them a thumbs down.

Hey OrthoMT.. tried to email you back but the email was returned as undeliverable..
Basically, this is what I'd like to know.. You can email me the information if you like..First off, are they hiring for ortho? and what is their scheduling like, FT or PT, IC status or employee etc. I would like to find a company that is pretty flexible. Also, what platform do they use? I have worked at some like you were saying, took forever to get the line count and I want to work 8 hours and be done. Oh, do you have benefits, and what are they like if you have them? Thanks for any information you can give..
