Reviews, raises???.....

Posted By: goodjoke on 2005-07-28
In Reply to: what do you mean there are no reviews? - sm

What part of that was unclear. Anyone can check production - you won't get a review after 6, 10 or 20 years much less right after your probation. If you aren't producing to suit them - you are gone, unless of course you are a pet and then you can do whatever you want..

Wonder if those support in the office get any raises. We are paying their raises, huh?

you know they ARE getting raises!

what do you mean there are no reviews?
how do they know if you fall into full time or part time slots for insurance?  what about the 120 days after employment, they review you then dont they and what about accuracy?

Thanks much for taking the time to reply. It is something that is important to me, and I am wondering if I am being unrealistic to expect a review and/or raise after a year of service with the same service. Isn't this just good business sense on their part in an environment where it is hard enough to feel connected and part of a team?

I appreciated the responses. I will be checking out future opportunities and wanted to be sure that a yearly review is a reasonable expectation on my part. Just starting my list of pro's and con's to try and find the right fit. Thanks again.
PS: Hate to break it to you you really summed up my situation in a nutshell. Glad to hear moving on was a good move.
    Bad reviews
Yes, I work for a company that has gotten bad reviews on this board. It seems pretty much every company gets bad reviews which just shows that everyone's different.

I like the company I work for. I just think what works for one person may not work for another.

And no, I wouldn't mention the negative feedback you heard here.

    Good luck!
    Bad reviews
I work for one such company now.  They are always getting a bad rap but they suit me just fine and dandy.  If I have any concerns (and I've applied for a lot of jobs), I bring it right on up in the interview...they don't have to hire me and I don't have to go to work for them so if they aren't willing to address any concerns I have, they don't need me and I don't need them.  I went to work for one such company although at the time they were getting a lot of posts about paying.  The interviewer admitted that it had been a problem but had been corrected.  I went to work for them anyway.  No problems with the pay but no one had posted that they were so disorganized they didn't know which end was up.  I say a short term understanding makes for long time friends so if you have concerns, my advice is ask away but make your own decision.  Don't rely on this or any other board to make your decision for you.
    Yes and No on reviews.
You have to really study the reviews here for a while to get a feel for them.  First, remember the saying where there's smoke, there's fire. If you have several consistent posts complaining about pay, or no work, etc., you can bet this is probably a true issue.  Like one of the posters below, when she mentioned the pay issue and the no organization, I know exactly what company she means, as I read this board daily. I've done it for years, and you really do learn the companies this way, the good and bad of each.  As for the glowing, cheerleading reviews of companies. Beware of these more than the negatives. For instance, below you will see rave reviews for another company, nearly to the point of praise the Lord posts. Only problem is, the MT is a newbie to the company, hasn't been there even a month, and the others chiming in with praise are brandie new, too. Yet you have ex-MTs and old-timers with the company stating there is no work, NO work. Who do you believe? The newbie? NO! So many companies play the bait and switch. They get you on board, give you great work for a month or two until  your ties are cut with your old job and you're stuck, more or less. Then you see how the company really is - you'll either wake up one day and have no work, or garbage work that you never saw before. That's the way the biz is. So, never ever believe a newbie. They mean well and are all excited, but its like an emotional high when you fall in love at the start.  Then when reality sets in, its way different!  When you get an occasional complaint like I hate company so and so, and its full of hate and pain, you can pretty  much rest assured that something personal happened, like the MT couldn't pull her weight or quality was an issue. When its so emotional and personal, there's more to it than just a negative review.  Generally I have found that the companies praised on this board were not at all what they were praised out to be.  I prefer giving some with a bit of negatives a shot, at least knowing what the problems might be from the start and addressing them on the interview. Yes, by the way, bring it up, as all MTSOs know about this forum and should be more than happy to address your concerns. I've never had a problem with this. After all, we tell them we found the ads thru such-and-such web site, so we can tell them we saw some negative reviews as well.  How they handle the answer is your answer!
    don't read the reviews
    nm
I know that they are going to be doing annual reviews now as sm
my supervisor was just telling me about them. Yes to raises but I think it depends on how high you start at. I went from 0.08 to 0.09 over a year, now slight higher.
    Yearly Reviews
Does anyone knows if any of the transcription companies actually gives their MTs yearly reviews, feedback on their performance, and/or raises.

    QA reviews???????The whole time...sm
i was there, I NEVER ONCE had a QA review....my team lead was good at disappearing or just not replying to IMs sent. Emails were answered a whole day later....phone calls were NOT returned and when I typed in the place of another MT who was out....i found NUMEROUS errors in her prior typed reports. What QA review??/Could not have been on the account i was on.
    Webmedx good reviews

I thought they were OK too but maybe not...the posts I read in the archives said they paid well..but guess I'll look elsewhere

Used to always get glowing reviews, but that has changed.
But it's kind of sad. Quick growth can create difficult times for small companies, I think.
    regarding negative reviews for Axolotl

Most of the negative reviews from Axolotl are very old.  I have transcribed from 14+ years and I have never found a company that even compares.

You might have a couple of disgruntled employees who could not and would not take pride in their work and maintain their quality posting negative things!!!

If you are looking for a good place to work with good benefits and you take pride in your work and can produce quality transcription, then you might want to consider taking a look.

    IMEs and Peer Reviews
Have 15+ years of experience in this field.  Any suggestions on how to find additional work???
I see a big ad in my paper for Heartland IS, many bad reviews on this board.

Stuff about them being sold and on their website is a big picture of....India? I am sort of new to the business, one of the MQ SE in the middle of the shuffle.  Are there any companies that are stable? I am tired of stress.

Didn't Webmedx get good reviews here?
I was under the impression they were a-ok? Hmm...
Thomas Trans Any reviews/comments on this company?
    Thanks in advance
Has anyone ever applied to a company that does not have good reviews on this board

but ended up liking it anyway?  I have an interview today with a company like that . They opened up a training center locally and I thought that maybe I might get some local accounts, but the main reason for applying is that I am doing clinic work and would love to go back to acute care.

Has anyone every brought up to the interviewer the bad reviews, or is it best to leave that out?  I am new to job hunting.

All the old reviews say they're horrible. Listen to those MTs and choose another company. nm

tera nova transcription? Good, bad? Mixed reviews. nm

    raises
best way to get a raise with MQ is to ask for it and keep asking. I don't know why they don't give "across the board" raises. The thing I have heard in the past is type more to make more. I say learn every work type you can and make yourself indispensable!
    raises with MQ
would you mind telling which office that is? used to be in Houston and it closed down and now in Dallas. you had to ask for a yearly review. they didn't volunteer that info unless you asked. first time when i asked for a yearly review they got around to it 6 months later. gave me all kinds of BS why I didn't qualify for a raise. i asked for a yearly review this year and i was told that i sent over 20% to QA. all i have to say is that you were extremely lucky. are you SE or FT?
Who says ICs can get raises. You obviously
work at a small company to brag like you do. I just hate it when someone like you comes here and tells people that they can earn like you do only it takes a while. Well guess what I am not new to this. However, I don't have stable accounts. I did have but the company puts whomever they want on them and dole the work out. You can't get ahead. I was doing fine finally until they put another greedy MT on that account and now my good account and the one I depended upon for most of my earnings is now hardly anything. I resent this. Accounts are not yours. They belong to the company. Yet, you say you have stable accounts? My God. You are unreal.

Go peddle your lies to someone else.
    raises
I don't think any of us TT employees want to say what we make. Every account is different. It really is nobody else's business what each of us makes. TT is very fair and we do get rewarded for good work. Didn't you used to work for us at one point, Olive Oyl? If you did, then you should already know that we are the best in the industry.
    raises
You should probably ask Transtech this question directly, Olive Oyl. The reason the rest of us don't tell you what we make is because it is confidential to each of us. It really doesn't matter to me what anyone else makes, because I'm very happy here. Transtech is about SO much more than cpl. I don't think you're going to get the answers you want from any of us TT employees, which is why I suggest you make a list of all your questions and ask Transtech yourself. :)
    COL raises
What companies have you or do you currently work for? Every company I talked to that does pay wages said there would be no raise in the future. If you want to email me . . . . . . I honestly don't want to fritter away my time and energy. I have worked very hard to get to where I am (as you know this is not an easy job to do) and am proud of the work I produce but I will not work for a few pennies. Perhaps I am wanting what will never happen.
    Raises?
How are they with giving raises, is there any set protocol, or like MQ whenever they felt like it (never)?
    WHO gives raises?? ;)

I've never heard of an MT company giving raises. Please advise if I'm wrong.  Whenever I wanted a raise (at any company over the last 18 years) I worked more.  My arms and hands are now shot, so I have to make do with what I have, no matter how big the incoming bills are.

LOL! Just had to comment.  It was a funny question to me.  :)

    Raises
I'm lucky enough to be an employee of a small local company and I get yearly raises. Good luck with yours.
    Raises
Is a year too soon to ask for a raise or should the company offer one automatically?  I just do not want to ask but I am afraid if I don't, I will never get one.  Any thoughts?
Ain't no raises in the MT biz..........
    *
    Yes there are raises...
I would say after 1 year, if you have a good track record, is fine to ask for one.
    Where R Our Raises?
While the town meeting was informative, where was the mention of raises? Cost of living? Anything?
    What, are we getting raises?
wasn't up on the home page yet when I last checked and I had to work my other job when it was going on.
    No raises, what to do?
You have the choice of 2 things, a) type faster and b) work more hours. If you asked for a raise just after 2 years, do you have any idea how long most have worked in this profession without having a raise at all?
    No raises here.
I haven't had a raise since 1997 when I was raised to 10 cpl. Really. Yes, I still am an MT, 25 yrs. Crazy?
The last year or 2 has been the worst with the economy and my single policy health insurance premium going up to almost $500 a month.

It's all wrong, and something is not right in this industry for this to have happened. Like others, when I started in mid 80s, it was decent and then good money.

    No raises/VR

Spheris never gives raises plus all accounts are eventually going to be VR. Plus they send a lot of work to India. The only good thing is PTO. I like my supe but now there is almost no communication.

    TT raises
Does anybody give raises? I haven't had a raise in my line rate in over 10 years. My income has actually gone down, and I believe that is probably true no matter what company you work for in this business now.

I do get my lines at TT no problem, and as far as the VR, works out fine for me.
    Do they give raises?

    OSI holiday pay and raises
I predict that the holiday bonus will last through Thanksgiving and Christmas, and then disapear like the work does overseas. No way are they gonna pay that ALL year....no way are they gonna pay raises either, cause no one will stay long enough to earn one!
Anyone getting raises with this information

I see a lot of information posted about benefits, hours, 401 K, PTO, bonuses, etc., but I am wondering did anyone get a raise that was posted in their packet?

If so, are you happy with it?

yes, I did. raises have never made me
    unhappy!
    Do they give raises?
    nm
MDI-FL does not give any raises.
Platforms stink. Bad accounts. Nasty people to deal with. Very disorganized, poor training, a regular witch in the HR/payroll department who takes pride in being condescending and mean. Flexible? Depends whether you are teacher's pet or not. If not, you get the worst accounts they have. Forget communication. There is none, but never ask a question because you will get a wrong answer and still be in the dog house. They really need some lessons on how to treat people like people, not like you are a robot and want to work 24/7.
MTs don't get raises b/c you want to work for
If you want raises, go back to wage pay. But then, you'll gripe about it, too.

there are no raises in production, you
negotiate your rate on the way in and that is it. Need more money? do more work.

your way of thinking is hourly employee. That will hurt you. You are now a professional - big difference.
we are reviewed and do get raises. (nm)

Do they ever give raises? nm
    z
Yes they give raises; for example,
I received a nice raise after 30 days, and the starting cpl was already 9 cpl. Very generous to work for and you are treated respectfully, even if QA gives you constructive criticism. They are never demeaning or reprimanding, and believe me I have worked where QA people could care less how they make you feel. No so with MDI. I am here for life!
