Yep that would be one big red flag for me.
They would want you to give them 2 weeks' notice and they should appreciate the fact that you are willing to work a notice.
BIG RED FLAG.

Another flag...
actually is that I cannot find a phone number for them anywhere. The website is odd and the phone number on there is out of service.

So that was weird to me to...
sounds like a red flag to me....

no, that should have been a huge red flag,
that the pointed questions were never answered, which was uncharacteristic. Instead, they would answer about a new account request, or schedule change, but NEVER answered the important questions. I have not addressed the new e/m address for concerns, as I plan to jump ship anyway.
Red Flag: If they dont ask for a W9 thats a scam.

WHOA!!!HUGE RED FLAG --- SM
They would have known WELL AHEAD of time if they were upgrading the direct deposit. Something is going on with the finances of the company. Now, have they made any comments about paying people for bounced checks and such that will occur because of this lack of notice? If not, get the hell out and don't look back! Also, print out the email that says they were upgrading in case you need it for court documentation
I'd see a red flag immediately if a company sm
waited a year to test me. From everything you said, it sounds like this company is desperately trying to fill a quota of US MTs to land/keep this account. Anyone born in the USA would do. If you were sincere in not wanting to work for companies that offshore, you should say so clearly right at the start and not go through all the traveling, testing, and ironing! I'm sorry this turned out to be such a negative for you. Best to do research beforehand.

the "hotmail" address alone was a red flag for me

Giant Red Flag. If that's the company mentality, I'd cut my losses quickly.
