Sounds like you are suffering from the overhired syndrome that is

causing lots of us to look elsewhere.  There are lots of MTs who work for more than one account.  They can't be without work so they juggle.  I don't see a conflict with working 2 jobs, unless both are full-time and then juggling them might be an issue.

I've worked 3 jobs at once, 1 full-time and 2 part-time, but that was back in the days before work was offshored and VR and I had a ton of work and just couldn't do all that was being asked of me.  I have worked 2 for a short time while starting a new one and not wanting to quit the other one until I got a feel for things.

Sure sounds like the old "CYA" syndrome to me. Are they giving you another acct?

Is anyone suffering from ESL
I would like some feedback on how to deal with ESLs.  I wanna run from them, but know they are a part of our medical establishment now.  How do you type the hard ones?
After 18+ years I'm suffering MAJOR

burnout and my production has suffered, but I still am able to support myself and my family (My DH works so I don't have to, though I have been sole support in the past).  I am not a job hopper.  I was with one company 13 years and only left because they lost the account I worked on and I didn't want to do clinic work.  I've been with my current company almost 7 years, so things were different then.  I do make more than most MTs, though I haven't had a raise in 5 years and a few benefits have been taken away.    This past Sunday Parade magazine did a series on what people make and I make almost twice what a medical secretary was making (and I don't work 24/7 either).

I won't say my company's name because they aren't hiring and haven't hired in about 2 years, simply because there isn't any turnover.

And that point-of-view is why we're all suffering huge
They'll pay as little as people will accept, and too many of you will accept anything.
Dumping Syndrome
The golden rule of transcription:

Those who can do the work, will do the work.

The better you are, the more crap they will dump on you.

Leave them a blank and move on. A poor dictator is no reflection of your skills as an MT. It is hard for many of us who are perfectionists to leave blanks, but if you don't you will not make any money. Your skill is worth more than $5 an hour.

When everyone stops trying to learn the garbled English vocabulary and leaves a blank, no one will do the work.

When that happens, the company and the dictator will do something different, which is what we all dream of.
Ah, that "dumping syndrome!" Don't you get sick....sm
of it? I keep complaining, and they keep telling me it's NOT being done - yeah, right and I have a bridge somewhere near a swamp for sale at a good price! Or the other answer I get is we don't know how to change it. OOOOOOOOOkay.........
I have 25 years exp and run into the "no work syndrome" also.
It happens! I got tired of hearing no work or can you go on later...etc. I went out and got my own accounts and it has be heaven!

Believe me, the no work situation happens at every company no matter what anyone says. I think I have tried every one out there and the same thing....great for the first few weeks, then caught up and no work.

You may need a part-time job to fill in for the $$$ missed.

Good luck.
My solution to the feast or famine syndrome

I work part-time with a daily number of lines to complete, no set schedule.  My work is usually pretty steady, but over the holiadys when things slowed down, I decided to get another part-time job.  I ended up in direct home sales.  I make more money at it than I do MTing and I get to set my own schedule.  I usually do 2 shows a week, averaging about $150 to $200 per show.  The shows take about 3 hours in total and the computer work is about an hour or less.

It also gets me out of the house and gives me a break from my kids.  I will say that I'm pretty fortunate that my husband has a M-F 8-4 job, so he's able to be home with the kids on the evenings I do these.

I keep a separate checking account for my business and it's really neat to watch it grow.  I'm saving the money for a rainy day (or famine) and when I get to a certain amount, we're putting in a pool.  I'm halfway there already.

No way would I stay attached to my computer.  If things are slow, I put that time into my new business and work on getting new shows booked or party games or invitations.  There's always something productive to do.

No guilty conscience...no martyr syndrome, either.
Our experiences are obviously pretty different, and you think MTs are greedy and self-serving. Perhaps I was fortunate to know a completely different group of people.

I am not arguing my ethics in this, which are just fine, and I am not arguing that this profesion is about dealing with human beings. I am saying that poor quality cannot be laid sqaurely at the door of the MT.

Why do you not hold the MTSO responsible for firing these incompetent greedy MTs or the hospital for not having them removed from their account for having so many errors? Why aren't they expected in your mind to have as much at stake in patient care as an MT?

I truly believe your heart is in the right place. I believe it is inherent for everyone to do the best job possible. What I am saying is the players in this industry, all of whom should have patient care upmost in their minds, are trading quality for money. This is money that they take out of MTs pockets creating a situation that will ultimately further decrease the quality of patient documentation.

The good MTs like you, who obviously care, will leave the profession when YOU cannot make enough money. The MTs that are blowing through reports to make money will stay because THEY make good money. The MTSOs who are not firing these MTs because they are making money off of them will stay because they have a great profit margin. The hospitals will try to squeeze 1 more cpl out of everyone for the year-end bonus, and then more newbies will flood the market coming in without any mentoring or QA to submit a finished document directly to the medical record that the doctor signs without reviewing it because there is another emergency to be taken care of.

ps: Please excuse typos! "Hands-working-faster-than-brain syndrome!" haha (nm)
.
Same here. I am sure they have overhired! sm..
Sad, because I really, really like FutureNet but I have been testing all week during the downtimes with FutureNet (which has been 20 out of 24 hours a day it seems)....I believe they have overhired and it is not fair.  I know that they have to meet their turnaround times but maybe they should have given some kind of incentive.  I know that may sound rude but everyone, at times, has hard times and cannot be there for a day or something.  But to actually go in and hire WAY TOO MANY people to make it where you cannot even come close to what you were getting is just ridiculous!  Why is always feast or famine?  I wonder if a lot of people are quitting or have quit because I know from my experience, my pay has been cut down to 1/6 of what I was getting prior...and my family and I cannot live off of that.
MDI-FL has overhired again.
x
DSG has overhired once again!
What primary accounts?  Bounced around all day scaping the bottom of the barrel because there is hardly enough work to go around.  Some of us have been there for a long time now and helped to keep these accounts afloat when there were only a few of us working when we said we would.
More than likely overhired (sm)
I have been with them over 2 years. I have seen the volumes go and up down. I can always tell when they overhire and then it will level out (at least with my account).

I have noticed the work is running low on a lot of the accounts. So......who knows....time will tell.
If like MDI-FL, they overhired and no work.
x
Webmedx has overhired
Hired all of Medquist employees and now running out of work. Have several accounts that I work on, so that is not the problem.
I don't think they have overhired, but they hire
way too early for a new account.   From reading the message boards there are people who have finished training for an account that isn't even due to come on-line until December and I know at least some of them are working on other accounts until their account comes on-line.

They may very well have overhired, although there are usually at least 5 accounts who have OT on them almost every day.
They have overhired once again. Not much work
nm
They have overhired for management sm
and are screwing the MTs. STill spouting the same have a nice day, we appreciate you policy. They bought another MT company last year, have totally partnered up with the totally bogus MT org (whom no decent MT has anything to do with), hired a lot of people from there for management, and have an agenda that is OUT OF CONTROl. Nothing there is to benefit the transcriptionist. Hope I die before I have to retire from there with nada.
True. I am leaving. They have way overhired and (sm)
just cannot make money with them. Thanks for letting me know I am not crazy!LOL!!:)
If they overhired it won't be a problem for long.
People get tired of them screwing with line counts and checks not consistently on time ...... and leave.   I can't believe they are still in business.
TransTech has WAY overhired recently

May want to reconsider their offer or you could end up with insufficient work along with some of us - not all but some of us.

I think they way overhired and I told my supervisor that too.
I'm on escription, clinic and hospital and all is low/out.
No TT overhired for the overflow account
they are putting those MTs on the other accounts.
That is the problem on my account...they overhired (sm)
I really hope they do try to rectify things with the accounts that are overstaffed because it is a great place to work and I do not want to look for another job.  All I want is steady work on my account.  I know it's hard to staff these accounts because they can't really predict how much work there will be.
My guess is that they've overhired again. nm
xx
still, though, overhired. companies would get more cooperation if (sm)
they'd cut back on that. and, yes! communication - conference calling - using the voice so nothing is misinterpreted.
Someone suggested everyone has overhired a lot of former MedQuist people -
Not sure if this is true or not, but it is one possibility. A friend of mine says her checks have been less than half what they normally are for June AND July. Let's hope it picks up for us all soon!
They have overhired for the summer. We will ALL be running out of work!

They thought they had a new account and it was not a go, so overhire again.  They are just running this ship TOO TIGHT

I agree. Though I have found the IC job still overhired, I do better at my employee job
I stuck it out for too many months with my IC job as my 1 and only job. I got lots of accounts and tried lots of ways to get work, 24 hours checking. My paychecks were still pale. This went on for way too long. It was TAT and overhiring. Good for them, not for me. So, I decided to go with a big national I worked with years ago, as an employee, and took a split shift. Best move I have made in years to go back to the national. I have been drowning in work and my paychecks are finally getting to the old days, 2 or 3 years ago. I will definitely not let my IC job go but I will never depend on it again. As long as I show up now and then there, I have both jobs. Use the IC for pocket money and in case the national runs dry which is doubtful, I never have to go to tertiary accounts. It took me a very bad year and lots of jobs to find a good fit but I hope that people out there do believe it is possible to earn a good living. Just trial and error. And to those who work directly for a hospital, please count your blessings. I took my position directly way too lightly. Of course they have outsourced now. But it is possible to be back to 40K or more again, just hang in there!
look, they probably overhired, they don't care if 100 transcriptionist quit, just hire more.
nm
Platform a bit slow, loads of material to know on each acct, they overhired
for the acct they put me on, so I sit and wait for work to roll in. They gave me a secondary acct, but again I wait. I think some are happy there, I might be if they didn't overhire and they beefed up their platform to move a little quicker.
TransTech has no work; that is why; lost accounts; overhired significantly BAD nm

Does TT care?  No, they get their big paychecks no matter if the MT's do or not.

sure sounds swell. Sounds like 2350 ln/day @ 4 cents/ln=$90./day
in order to figure how many line needs to be produced to make $500 per pay period. ie, how many lines an hour needed per 8 hour day --at your rate.

So say $450 a week would be $90 a day.
For example, if making 4 cents a line, need 2,250 lines a day, 281 an HOUR (to listen through and edit) to make this great wage of $90. a day FOR ALL THIS SAME SKILL, TO KEEP UPDATED WITH CHANGING MEDICAL COMMUNITY. nope Better at Jack-in-Box Pass it up.
Sounds like it and it sounds like you must tell them when they will be and no change them. Wonder
what you do when there is no work. Well, there will be a lot of problems with this whole plan if they dont get things straightened out with this no work situation.
Sounds like I'm the same age as you!
x
Sounds like she was trying to -sm
make you quit - probably because they overhired and have too many people. She probably thought she could bully you out the door and have one less person to have to deal with. I wonder if she treats others like that too.
I bet so. Sure sounds like them!!
nm
Sounds like
MedQuist
SM - Sounds like you...

must know this owner pretty well to be bashing him this way.  How is it you have come to such an opinion?  Did you work in an office with him?  I would be very anxious to hear more of your scholarly declarations such as the answer to ending world hunger and obtaining world peace?  Please, tell us more oh "wise" one....

exactly what I was trying to say! It sounds like they sm
are on the right track! Good luck to them.
That sounds exactly like OSi.
nm
sounds like mq
There is always someone telling everyone what excellent accounts they have, perfect sound, TONS of work....hmmmm....well, I guess it's nice that SOMEBODY is going to be able to pay the rent cause it sure ain't me.

Sounds about right, maybe even a little low. nm
nm
Sounds low to me (sm)
I made $3.00 page several years ago.  With wages lowering each and every day for the MTs, maybe someone else would like to share their thoughts.  Good luck!
It sounds like they are not
very technical-savvy if they need MTs to come in for training! I'd be looking elsewhere.
They can only say no, but it sounds like they can't...
...afford to lose you. YOU are in the catbird seat. Ask for the raise. Really. Do it, and best of luck.
Sounds like BTS in MA. sm
They will take 6 weeks to send you a paycheck for 2 weeks pay, trim 30% off your line counts to supposedly cover headers/footers, and stiff you for your last check if you leave. Leave while you are ahead if it is them.
wow. Sounds like you been there, done that. Thanks for

This sounds like a
.
Sounds like she might need some
