There is some convoluted method to figuring OT.

In Reply to: How do you get "overtime" at Transcend? - Curious

The guy in payroll told me how to figure it once, but I forgot it.  Something about figuring your total line count, dividing it by something to get your OT lines and then multiplying it time something else.  Your OT lines are then subtracted from your total lines, so if you have the incentive bonus over 13,000 and they subtract your OT lines and it's less than 13K, you don't qualify for the incentive bonus anymore.  I used to think it was counted for all the lines, but it's not if you have OT.

Our method
I work as an IC as well as an employee. Here's what we do. We have a separate checking account that all of my checks from being an IC go into.  We don't have any checks for that account or anything.  It's just used as a depository of sorts.  My income from the other company where I'm an employee is just direct deposited into my regular checking account.  So, all of my IC checks go into this business checking account.  We then transfer usually around 35% into a separate savings account that we call the tax savings account.  The rest we transfer into the household checking account to pay bills, or depending on what's going on maybe into our regular savings account.  So, this business checking account will a lot of times have only a few dollars in it, because the money goes into it, but then is transferred right out first to the tax savings account, and then to the household checking account.  What's so great about this method, though, is that since everything I make as an IC goes into this account, and nothing else goes in there, I can easily just add up the deposits quarterly to find out my quarterly income.
According to THE method...
You should get about 1400 lines with this amount of work.  Do you?
Figuring pay. sm
You're the only one in a position to figure this out. It depends on how long the reports are, whether there is a lot of canned text on one account, etc. Keep track of your lines and hours on both jobs for awhile (I assume you're working them both now), and figure your hourly output. If you're doing a lot of short reports, such as clinic, you may come out ahead counting the headers. If the reports are longer, you need the spaces. Good luck.
My method to avoid
buying foreign-made clothing - THRIFT/RESALE/CONSIGNMENT shops.  It has been a very long time since I purchased any clothing new/retail, but I have managed to assemble a great professional wardrobe (in case I have to go get a ''real'' job - which is becoming a distinct possibility.)  I hit several nearby thrift stores every Tuesday when they open after restocking.  I don't keep up on where designer label clothes are actually made but I suspect that like most things they are assembled in third-world countries.  However,  I can own a guilt-free Ann Taylor suit by buying secondhand. I like to joke that I am not buying the clothing, only renting it.  Because when I'm tired of it, the stuff usually goes back to the place I got it.
Thanks for figuring your lines out, but....sm
could it be possible that they change line count specifics for each different account or isn't that possible.  Don't know the first thing about it.  Just a thought.  Also, I had a very easy account with no ESL and still couldn't get the lines.  I just moved on but I was disappointed because I liked the company but too hard to make any money. I make way better money now even at a lower line rate and less time on my butt...hmmm...
Okay, lets do some figuring (sm)
Lets say there are 20 MTs working for a company. The company charges the docs 0.16 per line. The MTs get 0.08 per line. The MTs each do 1000 lines per day, 6 days a week.

1000 x 0.08 = 80 per day

$80 x 20 MTs = $1600 a day.

$1600 x 6 days a week = $9600 a week.

$9600 x 52 weeks in a year = $499,200 a year.

IntelliType's method of paying????

Could anyone explain to me how IntelliType's tiered method of paying works?  I have been offered a job with them but not sure I understand how this works.  The recruiter said they pay 8.25 cpl for the first 700 lines, then after that it goes up to 8.50 until you get to 1000, and then up again to whatever amount of lines to 8.75, etc.  How do you make any money this way?  It's so confusing to me.  Their ad states they pay 8-9 cpl, nothing about the tiered payment method.  Are you able to make a decent living this way?  It just seems very low for IC status.

Thanks for your help.

Just figuring on the number of emails

With the last count of MLSs I had heard there at around 100 (not counting MDI), I was figuring that since I received 73 emails of support for either the content of my post or disagreement with it being removed, it was the majority.  If the base number of 100 had changed, then I stand corrected.

Figuring line count
To figure lines by 65 character line, you would take the total characters (NOT lines) divide characters by 65, then multiply that by .06.

Example: 15,000 characters/65 = 231 lines. 231 lines x 0.06 = $13.85.

Bayscribe is a bare bones method
and while it is easy it is really more cheap than MT friendly. I found the spellchecker nonexistent. You have to have some bells and whistles and is there anything more important to an MT than correctly spelled content? I used SpeedType with it and the lousy dictionary and no spellchecker drove me crazy. One opinion. I far prefer a more traditional transcription package .. there are no bargains!
Method of counting lines with ETrans Plus
I'm noticing something kind of fishy with the line counting method used by ETrans Plus out of Nashville after several weeks of working. What is strange is that I can load a template for a particular dictator with several lines of routine text and the line count doesn't adjust if I go from the top to the bottom but continues to count at the point of entry regardless of how many lines of text are between the top of the report  and where I jumped to in order to add new text. Has anybody with previous ETP employment experienced this?  Just curious and would like to be informed.
Figuring that a line is roughly 10 words, it's 8 cpl pay. nm

Still need help on figuring what would be a good cpl if paid w/o spaces.
See my first message above. Thanks
How is the DocQscribe line count method controlled?

Every line counting software has a way to mark what to count and what not to count.  Does anyone know how this is done with DocQScribe or who controls this?

Posting on the company board and companies figuring out

who it is.  Okay, this is the topic, and the reason why I am bringing this up is there were at least 2 posts here in the last week stating they believed the company would find out or did find out they posted here and they said negative things and might get fired or did not get hired because of it.

How is this possible? Can a recruiter or boss actually pin down who is posting? What if someone says something and they are a troll and sounds like a situation which the company person perceives is an employee and they take it out on the possible new hire or employee and they are wrong?

There have been posts here in the past by company managers who say if they find out who is posting they will sue for slander.  Then, MTs come on here and assume that the companies go to the board managers and get the IP address to figure out who this is.  Even if it was a certain IP address, and they went through this whole process to find out, it could be routed through another IP address such as overseas (this is often done in the case of hiding identity).

Since this is an anon board, how can any company say for sure it is a certain person. Why would they go to the trouble unless it were given to the police or a lawyer in the case of attempted murder or threat of such?

I want to know you opinions. And moderator please feel free to comment.  Wondering if our IP addresses are given out every time a company suspects something and if so, is this an invasion of our privacy since this should be anon.  Or, is it that people are paranoid, whether it be the employee/new hire, or company assuming such.  Remember to never assume because why? You make an *** out of u and me.

Thanks for your comments.  This has been bothering me a while now, and I would like to get some input back on this issue from companies and from posters alike.

Could someone help me with the figuring out of gross line versus character line? sm
I have generally been paid by character line, 65-character line.  Now, I have had job opportunities offering to pay gross line but it like 3 cents cheaper than what I am being paid now.  A few places I have read that gross line is MUCH better, but is it much better if the pay is so much lower?  Please explain how it works or equals out.  This position has offered me 6 cents per gross line - what would that equal out to in character lines?  Thanks...so confused...
It matters more on the company than the method. Go with a company that does a lot of sm
radiology or it won't matter because you won't have a big check no matter what. Ask them how many radiology accounts they have, if they are overflow or complete department, how long they have had them and do you get a back-up account.

There are very few out there that have good radiology accounts. Stick with the ones that do. I am with Keystrokes for that reason after going with 4 others that kept running out of work.
