How is their benefit package? Insurance costs, etc?
//
the benefit package for Diskriter is the only reason I am looking at them...nm
;o)
In the early days, MedQuist said working at home was a benefit, therefore at-home sm
employees did not receive as many benefits as those working in-house.  As I believe, it was something like at-home employees got 3 days off a year versus 10 days for the in-office employees -- WHAT?!!!  I told them it made no sense to me, since by working at home I was saving them money -- no need to provide office space, equipment, references, utilities, etc. -- yet I get shafted.  I was only part-time when they took over the previous company with their great policies, and I told them to kiss where I can't.
HOW IS WORKING HOME A BENEFIT???--sm

Like Judge Judy said in her books, Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining.  Who benefits the most (financially) from MTs working at home?  Who doesn't have to provide an office?  Who doesn't have to provide a PC (except for a fee)?  Who doesn't have to pay the electric bill to use this equipment?  Who doesn't have to pay the MT's phone bill?  Who demands the MT have high-speed cable internet connection?  Maybe your definition of benefit is different from the rest of the working world, but I/we count a benefit as something we can take to the bank, i.e., insurance, PTO, etc. (FT only, yet).

I hate it when people tell me that working at home is a benefit (sm)
Benefits are something that the company pays for. No use as MTs. If it was a true benefit, then they should give us the money to cover the costs of what daycare would be, because if you have kids, generally they stay at home with you, right? So, they should be compensating us for daycare costs on top of what we already make. Now THAT would be a benefit!
Actually, having employees work at home is a benefit...TO THE COMPANY
more than the employee. The company doesn't have to pay for office space, electricity, etc.....
New at home based...

I would like to get some feedback on a few companies.  I have been offered positions from AccuScribe, Cymed.  I am an IC now and have been in a hospital setting for several years, now at home working for a local company that does not pay well.

This newbie really needs some help!

Thanks in advance!

Carly

It is home-based. (nm)

Home-based MT is often a ripoff.
If you owned a factory and a supplier sent you defective or substandard raw materials what would you do? Send them back of course. You certainly wouldn't pay for them and use them to build your product.

In home-based MT this happens constantly and the MT is always forced to pay for the substandard raw materials (dictation) that the client sends. Not only with independent contractors but home-based employees usually have a quota and may have to work for nothing some days to meet it if they get a lot of crappy dictators. As an IC, my income may drop by up to 50% on a bad day of plodding through terrible dictators just to dig out common English words and phrases.

All these crappy dictators should be done by in-house MTs who are paid a fixed salary no matter how much they do. In that way the client that hired the crappy dictators without any language standards and that couldn't care less about their substandard raw materials would be the ones forced to compensate for their own bad behavior.

Oops! That s/b I prefer home based work.

All MTs, home-based or in-house, shoulda' staged a
WALKOUT years ago, before things ever got this bad.

One thing we should still do is all talk to labor organizers, because if ever a trade NEEDED a union BAD, it's this one.

And yeah, we could move on to other jobs. But don't think for a second that India/Pakistan/Philippines, etc. isn't ALREADY eyeing those jobs as the next ones to suck out of the U.S. ESPECIALLY any field that is dominated by women, because they know we don't have what it takes to get ourselves unionized, and to get our country to plug the ever-enlarging leak of American jobs and products to 'lowest-bidder' countries.

Look at what's happening everywhere in the world these days, and then be VERY embarrassed as you watch America repeatedly bend over and grab its ankles over and over again.

We're wimps, and the world knows it.

I may have a job near my home with full benefits. I'm so happy and excited. sm
I'm the one that had been having so many problems and heart ache with these companies I was trying.  I quit MQ about three weeks ago and I have been through one company and others that seemed to be not too good.  I may have a job for $25/hr with full benefits near my home.  I am just hoping and praying that this will be the job for me.  I have to drive a ways but at least I think I will get along with the supervisor.  She seems so nice.  I am so excited.  Hopefully it does not fall through:(
My last hospital did offer home-based employee positions. sm
They paid the employee positions by the hour with incentive and IC positions by the dictated minute.

It still was not as lucrative for me as my national position.

What works for one, however, may not work for others.

It is all about personal needs and opinions! Bully for you!!! :)

Full time/part time based on # hours or
# lines per pay period, nothing to do with quality. The lower the quality the higher the pay it seems.
What package?
??
How about not getting a package at all and

when you call a week after it was due to arrive, in their little computer it comes up that it WAS delivered a week ago, that the package was handed to some woman over the fence at that address, when in fact there is NO woman living there and the person living at that address was home all day waiting for the package with a clear view of the street and checking his doorstep every hour.  How is that one explained?

Whatever happened to them actually knocking on the door and getting a signature??  Twice this week I didn't even know I had deliveries until I opened my front door and almost tripped over them while walking to my mailbox.

Yes, it is a busy time of the year with holiday packages being sent in addition to their regular load, but if you cannot deliver it on time, don't take someone's overnight-priced package with a promise it will be there the next day and not deliver it.  I would be asking for my money back.  It was NOT delivered overnight as promised.  My mother will get the money (eventually) for the gifts that were lost IF she can prove it was not delivered or stolen, but what about the thought, the time, the gifts that cannot be replaced with money?

Look at the total package

Sometimes a great incentive program more than makes up for low CPL, also a good program, good dictators, how many templates and normals you can get.  I knew someone who consistently did over 2000 lines per day and did not work more than 8 hours, doing mostly OPs with ESLs, but they all said the same thing, used formats.  She just had to keep making her normals and inserting them.  They said the same phrases over and over, so she made big bucks.  Once she got used to them, it was a breeze and she was consistently one of the highest earners.

I would just keep checking other companies.  I am sure there is something out there for you.  Don't give up.

look at the whole package! their benefits are amazing.

Cymed Benefits Package for New Year

Anybody out there got an opinion on the new benefits for 2006?  Extremely disappointing, to say the least.  You would think that a company who claims to be the 3rd largest national would have more to offer to those of us who tirelessly make their position in the industry possible.  It has become painfully obvious with this package that they have lost sight of whose backs upon which their growth has been riding.  Maybe it's time to move on.   Any place you folks can point a loyal veteran MT desiring an employer who sincerely appreciates hard work and is willing to reciprocate?

Feedback on Nuance transcription package
Just started the Enterprise Express software upgraded version in December.  There seems to be a lot of manual input to create documents even with the link to our ADT feed.  Any hopes of getting good production on this system.  We will be going to a voice recognition system in addition to the transcription package after the initial bugs are worked out.  After a month, I am just hoping things will start to fall in place, but looking for feedback if possible.
Keystrokes announces 2006 benefits package sm

Keystrokes has finalized the benefits package for full time employees and has received great feedback from our MTs.

We wanted to share these so that you get them straight from the source rather than in rumors and heresay.

To be FT, you must produce a minimum of 12,000 lines (acute care), 1200 reports (radiology) or a combination of the two.

After 90 days, all FT employees are eligible for:

2 sick days, 2 floating paid holidays, rate x 1.5 for holidays worked, 3 days bereavement pay for immediate family, 1 day bereavement pay for extended family, 401k plan (with vesting schedule for match), health insurance (paid by employee) and life insurance (paid by company), direct deposit.

After one year, FT employees are eligible for 5 days PTO.  After three years, FT employees are eligible for 10 days PTO and after ten years, FT employees are eligible for 15 days PTO.

After years of changes due to growth, we have deemed 2006 a change-free year and have put in place many surprise perks for our MTs for this coming year.

We value our transcriptionists - both employees and ICs and want to make Keystrokes the employer of choice.

Give us a look ... you will like what you see.  No more awkward growing pains; instead you will be treated with the professional respect you deserve while enjoying a personal touch!

Thank you to all who have helped mold the company into what it is today - we could not do it without the support of our transcriptionists, customers and supporters.  We even thank the critics - their criticism allows us to improve :)

Happy Holidays !

If someone has the experience, the volume and the quality, whole package, they SHOULD be paid well.
Our employees, at 0.08-0.10 per line make $24-30 per hour. That is not peanuts.
I will start there on Sept. 8. They have a nice benefits package, sm

and the pay via the incentive tier seems fair and easily attainable, although since I have not started on the account, I cannot really say for sure -- if it is an atrocious account, then of course that changes everything.  I have not read anything bad about the company, though, so to me that is a good sign.  I will be using ExText, which I have used before, so that is another plus for me.

As for choosing between IC and employee, I guess that depends upon whether you need the benefits.  If you do not need the bennies and are still interested in working for them, maybe you could negotiate a bit higher line rate ... I do not know, just guessing.  They also have a bonus program if you keep to your schedule each quarter, so that is a nice plus.

Good luck with whatever you decide.  Like you, I would like to find a home.  I have an IC position that I love and will probably never totally give up, but I would like to have the benefits and some of the tax hassle erased.

I'd rather have my 6 paid holidays and nice PTO package at Webmedx sm
than any gift, anyway.
I've been very happy at DSG -- pay always on time, decent incentive package, sound quality probab

depends on account, mine has been fine most of the time.

What would the benefit be except that you'd
s
She's going to benefit from it, too, so don't
If she's going to pay the person part of her rate, then she's obviously going to have her doing part of the work assigned to her, and she's still going to make 6.5 cpl off this gal. Not to mention, the original poster knows nothing of this person and she could stiff her for pay entirely. I would be very leery of a work offer such as this. The original poster would be better off going directly to doctors' offices or other services and offering a free trial of her work. However, if she went to a decent school, her school should help her obtain PAYING work upon graduating.
It's a benefit to me.
All those who doesn'ts you mentioned are actually tax deductions, which overall lowers your tax burden anyway. I love working from home and do consider it a benefit not having to commute, deal with office politics, boss breathing down my neck, etc. I did take a pay cut to work at home and am still glad I did. This is just my opinion and I am one of the rest of the working world. I love Judge Judy too.
I would like that benefit best of all, lol nm
nm
What is the benefit of IC if they tell you when to work. nm
:
Those in need do not benefit from outsourcing
The people in need do not get anything.  They will continue to starve while the upper castes/classes become more and more of a consumer-driven society.
What they want is a benefit-less employee.nm
x
There is one loophole to their benefit.
I got caught in this with the birth of my last child.  You have to have worked a certain amount of hours within the past year. Its an average of 24.  If you worked enough hours to qualify, then you can absolutely take all 12.
You can say that again. Never for the MT. I get sick of being taken advantage of for their benefit.

Could you tell me about their platform and if family med ins is a benefit, PTO etc..
Please give more details. Do you work for them now? Pay rate?
Another benefit of employee status over IC
Many people are uninsurable or have family members who are uninsurable if they were to try to get health insurance on their own. Getting it as an employee of a company is their only way to insure themselves. As long as there has not been more than a 63-day break in coverage, if you are an employee, not only does the insurance company have to accept you, they also have to accept all your preexisting conditions. Health insurance with most companies is not cheap anymore, but expensive insurance is better than no insurance.
Where is our benefit at TT? Too long to get pregnant !! nm

Maternity leave benefit
I would like to know if there are companies that offer maternity leave benefit for FT?
Unpaid time off - a benefit?

New one to me.  Never heard of it unless ofcourse you have used up your PTO and need to take off unexpectedly.  As far as using your PTO when there is no work, I think that is totally unfair.  That should be your OPTION, not a requirement.  Suppose you had plans for that PTO?  I also do not believe you should have to clock out when there is no work, unless you want to work outside of your shift.  I mean your shift is your shift.  It should be up to the company to supply you with work during your shift and if they can not do that, then THEY should be the one with the problem.

I worked in-house for many years by the hour.  When there was no work, I left the office.  To tell you the truth, when I started working at home I worked longer and harder than I ever did in the office.  Ofcourse since I was more productive, I made more money.  I think our jobs should be considered just as valuable as any inhouse employee, maybe even more so, and should include the same benefits if we are more productive and cost inefficient.  I mean, can they really have it both ways?

I usually try to give the benefit of the doubt,
but unfortunately that sounds like a big fat lie. But I am no longer expecting honesty, respect or anything else. They told me when I hired on, that ABSOLUTELY NEVER would they outsource our work. Period. Well partnering with one who does, is the same thing, IMO. Of course they know what the pay scale is. That answer just tells me its not good for us...
Nah, even more work and the benefit of letting you make a

Thank you for the reply - is there any benefit to saying you will type 1000 per day?
Can someone sign on for 500 and type more than that? What I am asking is, is there any benefit to signing up for 1000? :-)
Some people who work in offices have that benefit, but no MT
booooooo
Approximate benefit costs/pay cpl difference
Does anyone have just single coverage for yourself through Keystrokes, around age 40; how much approximately per pay period? Also, is there usually a higher line rate paid for acute care and Ops compared to ER? Any info appreciated. Thanks for all your help.
Need health ins in 30 days ..what companies have that benefit?

Hi, I really need health insurance faster than 90 days.

Does anyone know the companies that offer it effective in 30 days?  I have seen a few advertised but can't find them.

any help would be appreciated ... thanks in advance

Did you understand the part about the SE comprehensive benefit plan.

Well, besides the outsourcing, they manipulate the line count for their benefit. nm.
nm.
OMG! That is an awful benefit plan! Are you kidding me? You contribute nothing to the
cost of health insurance? One day of bereavement leave? You seem to be proud of this package. I would be hanging my head in shame were I you!
I try to be kind and give people the benefit of the doubt, but I have to agree. sm

It all sounds like a bunch of hooey.  My ex husband used to tell lies when the truth would have worked better.  Perhaps she is related to him.

I cannot believe any MT would not know at least the most important aspects of the BOS.  True, with some accounts, you ignore the BOS and do it however the client wants it, but still, you should KNOW the rules.

Maybe I'll just put out a shingle and call myself a lawyer.  Of course, I know nothing about the law ... but maybe that shouldn't be a problem.
