This obviously all boils down to choices. If your willing to use a C-phone, then there is work but

if you want to work for an account that you were hired for, say using editing, or basically internet-based, the work load can be somewhat fluctuating and this could be due to the fact that many were hired on these editing accounts so it keeps the work load down most of the time. It also depends on the hospital your working on. Some have more work than others.  Just be aware of what you will need and want in order to keep working. I still stand by the fact that sometimes things promised never materialize and emails are delayed in being answered. Other than that, pay is on time and for some that is enough to keep them happy. I say, try it out. Only you can decide what works for you or what is acceptable. Again, it is about choices.

Life is about choices. Nobody forces her to work so hard and
put in so many hours that she's hiring people and ignoring them.  I don't agree with that, no matter what the excuse is.  We're all busy people.  We all have lives.  That doesn't mean you have the right to mess with people's income and careers.  Employees or ICs aren't just disposable commodities that you toss aside on a whim.  It's called RESPECT for your fellow humans.
It boils down to this:

Wen I read something thats written like this i just cant take the writer to seriious.  If there not taking this serious enough too proof read there work, than why would i wish too read something that is pure torture too get thru?

If you only take time to write properly when you're on the payroll, does that mean you go around in public looking like a slob?  Only clean house when company is coming?  Only wash dishes when there's nothing left to put soup in?  Only mow your lawn when a neighbor complains?

I happen to believe that just about everything we do is a reflection of ourselves.  What impression do you wish to give?  Sure, once in awhile most of us make a typo that gets past us, but to disrespect the reader by never taking time to proofread, or worse, give others the impression that either you do not know the difference or cannot be bothered to learn it........

I guess it all boils down to this.
I have been reading this board, page after page, for what seems like weeks. This is my conclusion:

1. Transcend is very good for some and not so good for others, not so unlike the other companies that exist.
2. We can choose what is best for us, depending on our personal situation which includes panic now and regret later, run now and be happy somewhere new, or stay and wait it out with a plan B to depend on if things don't work out.
3. We can continue to complain and fret about only supporting USA-all-the-way companies, when the reality is most companies either advertise they off shore or keep it silent until you find out after they hire you.

In summary, this situation is nothing new. To most of us it has become routine; that is, working for a company that is suddenly acquired by another one. I read where Keystrokes' owner is considering selling in several years. What depicts several? She is a USA only MT company, but who will she sell to?

So, in order to maintain my sanity through all of this, I am going to wait and see, do my best, keep in touch with my TL who I trust to tell me all I need to know and then see what happens. To each his own, but that is my take on this entire situation.

As far as I know..they all use Dictaphone EXT, which I personally like, so it boils down more to
workload, pay, benefits etc..
It all boils down to who will play the game
There have been a lot of good MTs at OSI. Most of those who do excellent work and have years of experience have left OSi because of tactics such as this. She may have a good work ethic and sunny disposition and do good work but is not in a better position to supervise other MTs who are better all around. The point is that people new to either the MT industry or to OSI are most often the ones promoted because they are most assuredly YES people since they don't have enough experience to know any better that OSI consistently does things such as break the wage and hour law among other things.
Why are those your only choices?

your choices

You are obviously new.  Please search archives for the companies you are chosing between.  It is not the sunshine and roses you are expecting, unless you think $12 an hour is living wage. This is from a fast reader and a good Editor also.

your choices
It seems immature to be rude to someone asking a question, especially to someone who may be new to the board. We are all just here for a little information, not to be slammed. Hopefully you will have a better day tomorrow! :)
So I have two choices
Work for low pay and drive the Editor nuts, which seems to be fine with the owner who makes this arrangement of paying more than one person peanuts...or I can try to search out a company who will compensate me for a meticulous work product. Thank you.
Sounds about right.

Choices
What I see is a lot of posts about Keystrokes and Transtech so people tend to go with one or the other and then come right back here to bash these companies for one issue or another. It seems to be a cycling of MTs over and over again. There are other companies out there besides these two you know so I would not limit a job search to these two. These companies are promoted on this board by the same small group of people over and over. I will say I was very very apprehensive about going to work for KS for this very reason. However, seeing more positive posts than negatives, I decided to go with them. I have found that they are a great company to work for. No one ever bothers me and my pay is correct and on time. I have had to take unexpected time off due to some urgent situations and they have never given me a hard time about it. Sometimes life can be so stressful so its good to find a company that understands that family comes first and situations do arise that are beyond our control.
Choices
If you work for someone who is insisting you store PHI on your computer you need to make sure YOU are following the law and doing it correctly. I would suggest you look up what those requirements are as they're pretty much a PITA.

Also, MTs are puppets-- It really *IS* okay to say- I'm sorry, but storing this data will cost $$$ in order to make sure I am HIPAA compliant.

Just cause someone says do it, doesn't mean you have to break the law and do as they say.
TT gives 2 choices, your PC or theirs.
Insurance is with BCBS and very reasonable. PTO is good too. The best part about Transtech is that they treat everyone as an equal, no big I, little U mentality.
Used to need a second phone line to work there. Does anyone know about now? nm
s
I think you have two choices in this situation.

Since you have already discussed this with her and she has not made any changes...you can transcribe 30 minutes of dictation or more - depending on how much time you have - and return the rest, or you can find another MTSO to work for.  You can only do so much .

Looks like I picked the 2 right choices TY!
/
No, you don't need C-phone or a second line, and yes, I believe we do have clinic work. nm
x
C-phone accounts have tons of work
but you have to have unlimited long distance
I don't think you'll find any work here..unless you have a C-phone...
Not much work here to keep me busy or even make my line requirements.
It's obvious I don't base my choices
by this board; however, the negative things that have been stated have been true. Guess I should have taken the hint the first 3 times in regards to getting the hiring process completed. Since they could not follow through with that, don't know what made me think they could follow through with anything else!
Dislike it, too. Much too involved, too many choices, etc. nm
v
Just depends on the account. I work for MDI, don't use a c-phone but also don't have Bayscrib

All of the WORK RELATED emails, IMs, phone calls, etc...sm
Up until 05/13, I was a production paid MT that was expected to work a very structured, 6.5-hour shift that was to be performed from 9a-4p. HOWEVER, the constant disruptions that came from my supervisor and other staff members (mandatory IMs, emails, phone calls, on-line meetings, etc) was considered non-productive and had to be made up. It took me 8 to 10 hours a day (on a good day) to get in 6.5 hours of transcription! I was then accused of not sticking to my schedule because many of those hours were done in the evening (after the office went home) and I was finally left alone.

Could you even try to imagine anyone else (regardless of profession)being told to stay after their shift was over to make up any time spent performing work related tasks? It doesn't happen and never will!

Why are we expected to be so grateful to be at home when the only difference is demographics? Oh, and maybe a water cooler...

Posters can choose emoticons from the choices given

Thank you. I went to Walmart today, and guess what, they had one phone and it didn't work!. Go

I work for Keystrokes and have never heard that you had to have digital phone service (sm)
I used Embarq for about 3 months and made the change to digital because I got the letter from Embarq saying I was wasn't allowed to use the unlimited long distance that much.  I also switched to digital because it is cheaper and truly is unlimited long distance at the same rate every month.  I was never once told by Keystrokes that I had to have digital.  The only thing they ever told me was I had to have unlimited long distance.
I work at Keystrokes using a C-phone and Meditech. Admittedly, I wasn't sm

fond of Meditech when I first started using it, but now I do not mind it at all.  You can look up patient data such as medications, prior reports, etc., which can be quite helpful.  And Keystrokes uses a formula to count the lines which I think turns out very favorable for the MT.  I don't think that must be my C-phone account, thought, because I'm pretty sure there are more than 35% ESLs!

Good luck to you.  Don't let the naysayers get to you.  Try it for yourself and see.  It might be a great fit.

Worked on C-phone for 10 years with 1 phone line
nn
Congrats to you -- always nice to hear from someone who is happy with his/her choices. :-) nm

x

Yes, even without a raise, currently compared to my other choices, I would wholeheartedly recommend
As far as ESL - yes. Most accounts are 60%+ at least from what I have been offered. However, I would have to say that only on certain days do I get 60% ESL and most the time, I have an easier time understand the ESL dictators more than some of the non-ESL dictators. I guess it is kind of a wish-wash in regards to ESL. I would say even though it sounds like a lot, I think they are pretty comparible at least in my experience.

VR depends on what account you are on. Some of my accounts are phenominal and others not so good. However, they do give you the option to remove dictators (though don't seem to listen to half my requests) if their VR is bad. Plus the pay is the best in the business for VR at least from what I have seen.
You'll work as an employee, not IC. Need your own C-phone and pay for your own long distance line
s
2 choices: Continue to call/write repeatedly or move on. nm

C-phone accounts aren't any better, not enough work to make line counts there either. Sigh
nm
C-phone - I purchased a c-phone from someone in Oklahoma but never got it. *sm*
First she told me her grandmother died. Then she told me she mailed it. Then she told me her daughter was having chemotherapy. Call me naive, but I thought she was sincere and cannot imagine anyone using their daughter as an excuse. If this is the same person from Oklahoma, I sure would like to know about it because now I want my money back.
I don't have a second phone line ... cable modem for the internet, regular line for my C-phone.

If anyone wanst to get through to me while I'm working, they have my cell phone number.

And, as I said, some accounts are using wav files -- no doubt soon all of the accounts will convert.  Hope so ... would make it easier (less expensive) to work when traveling.  :-)

Lots of good companies out there -- hope you find one that fits :)

C-Phone = Connexions Phone

Dictaphone is a company and one of their many products is a C-Phone.

I think it just boils down to years and years of
If you kick a dog often enough, it's going to not only turn on you, but other dogs as well. Even though I made more money as an in-house MT, our managers were the worst. All greedy, self-serving women who lied, cheated, and made their way up the management ladder by stepping on those of us who worked under them. They created hostility, distrust and ill will in the office by pitting MT against MT (I suppose they figured it would keep the MT's from turning on THEM!), and the suspicion it bred created a hostile workplace like no other. I finally couldn't take it anymore and quit to work at home, for less than half the money. I'm lucky - I have an employer that at least treats me well, even though the pay stinks. But from what I've read here, that isn't the norm at all. So it's little wonder so many at-home MT's are ready to chew someone's head off. They're tired of being lied-to, cheated on line counts, disrespected, and at the same time expected to produce more and more work, with little to no mistakes. So it's little wonder we're all a mite cranky.
I do use a C-phone, but...
The program that we type into is web-based and is the absolute best I've ever used, because it's so simple and fast.  My C-phone is hooked up to my DSL via Vonage www.vonage.com, so I pay $27 a month long distance.  I think there are some accounts, however, that actually use a .wav pedal.  I just don't happen to be on those accounts.
Does anyone have DSL and use a C-phone? - sm

I need to know if you are on-line (DSL) and working on your C-phone (same line), does call waiting still work?

Thanks.

Do you have a phone #
for this company or know how they are listed in the phonebook?
C phone

Just wanted general information on C phones-- how they work etc.  I am losing my mind, I did not mean info on Accustat, WI

C-phone
Accustat wants me to switch over and I have no idea how one works. I really like this company too
Yep, C-phone...
both accounts (I switch between 2, both use C-phone).
C-phone
Thanks. I think that I will go ahead and get one so that I can switch over. I was wondering about the phone like-- thanks for clearing that up. Can't afford a new one so I think I am going to try Ebay.
You need a C-phone but...
other than that, they are great.  Very organized, helpful, and they pay on time!
C-phone
To my knowledge, a C-phone and a Dictaphone are one in the same,
I have a c-phone
.
C-phone
A C-phone is short for connection phone. It looks just like a regular telephone only bigger. It has ports to plug in a headset and footpedal. It also has a regular receiver that you can use to call out, just like a plain phone. When you are given a C-phone account, you dial the number you are given, perhaps enter a PIN or ID# and
depending on the account, listen to the prompt for further data. Then you simply press the foot pedal and start typing. It also has 16 memory spots to program frequently dialed numbers. It also has to be programmed (by you) for the headset, etc, which isn't hard. Personally, I prefer a C-phone account. They are nice to use.
You will own the C phone
No, after 2 payments of $50 you will own it and do not ever have to send it back. They are a great company.
C-phone
If you have to buy a C-phone from them, it is only $100, and they will take two payments of $50 out of 2 checks. I was lucky and got an account that didn't use a C-phone, though. They are very willing to work with you and if you request an account that doesn't use a C-phone, they are generally very accommodating.
c-phone

Good Morning, I am trying to use a C-phone, can dial in, hear reports, but foot pedal is not working. It is connected. Is there something I am supposed to do other than that?  Thanks to all.
