Uhhh not really.

MT work has provided me with food, shelter, and many other wonderful things.  I don't need a union to do that for me.  I've done it myself.  I have my own accounts though, so I guess that makes me different.


Somehow, this profession has turned into what I deserve?  Anyone in healthcare will tell you they are underpaid including nurses.  They work dreadful hours.  Physicians are paid less and less by insurance companies. 


A lot of professions suffer.


I made a comment above about getting your own accounts and be the MTSO if you think it's so easy, and I get called corporate. 


All of you who want a union are corporate workers, am I right or wrong?


I'm my own boss and no I do not consider myself an MTSO because I don't have a business license.  I'm just self-employed.  That's it.  I'm making a fine living sitting in the comfort of my own home and able to take time out for my kids whenever I went.


I'm stuck in that hole of a hospital that outsourced anyway and probably ultimately is paying way more to C-Bay than they ever paid me.  They gave me nothing but a hard time and a lot of gray hair.  The best part was the nervous breakdown before I left.  That's when the anxiety started.  I now only deal with the anxiety occasionally after giving my 2 weeks' notice.


At the drop of a hat, anything in this industry could change.


Anyone who thinks a Union can work, then go for it.  But when you're not getting what you want and you have to strike, you all will be here crying you have no income.  Which is the lesser of 2 evils?

I sure can't think of a whole bunch of MTSOs who would describe their American MT workforce as *usually doctors or pharmacists*...

Well, I was just wondering because uhhh
yeah you do reply to almost every Keystrokes inquiry.  And, I thought maybe they hired you since previous posts have claimed the higher-ups at Keystrokes are well aware of the posts here regarding their company as one of the posters stated she herself called the higher-up to tell her that there some negative posts.  I'm glad you post such nice things.  It is good to hear that there is at least one nice company out there.  Thanks.
Uhhh, I have experience with them

Diskriter -- I was hired as the first radiology Transcriptionist for a large account that they had had for a long time - now moving into radiology.  I worked very hard to make a good reputation for them, and in fact, they got 4 more hospitals which even the president of the company attributed to my good work.


However, I found out from the hospital employees that if anyone had to go into one of my reports -- which was standard practice with E.R. orders after they were typed -- that once they did, my ID would go off the report I typed, and the person who changed the ordering phys. name would get the credit.  This accounted for approximately 20% of the reports I typed - I would get no credit.


I notified my supervisor and no response.  Went higher, and was told I would be compensated, just to keep track, which I did.


When the hospital gave the stats back to Diskriter (now, keep in mind, missing at least 20% of the work I did), and I would submit a list of the ones I had done which needed a name change -- my line counts were stated as 800-900 lines per day!!!!  I knew this was incorrect, as my average had always been 1600-2000.  THEN, I find out that the way the hospital kept track was with no spaces, headers --


I disagreed vehemently, and was told I would be compensated (but there was no way that could be accurate).


Then I found out from payroll that after I submitted my timesheets -- my supervisor would go in and CHANGE THEM TO MATCH what the hospital had given them -- WHICH WAS MINUS THE 20%, AND A LINE COUNT THAT I HAD NEVER AGREED TO, or even knew about.


I fought back, and then I was seen as a trouble-maker --  told they were working on it, told not to send any more e-mails!!!  In the meantime, my timesheet was being altered and I wasn't making ANY money.  They could ignore me because I was at home, and just not respond or get ugly and blame me!


So after all the hard work - and they got an additional 4 hospitals - I couldn't take it anymore, and I packed up all their crap and sent it back.  I'm getting nauseated just remembering it.


Are they calculated differently or

is it just getting used to the system?


That is exactly how I calculated my lines (sm)

as IP's reqs, without spaces, and still, my check was underpaid each time by $50+.  Makes you wonder about IP...When I asked a couple Vianeta Tech Support reps about differing line counts between IP and MTs, they declined to comment (of course).  When I asked IP about this directly, they could not, or would not, prove how they calculated my lines.  So why waste my time - adios!


I am on an account that is by the minute but it is calculated like this: sm
Every minute of dictation = 12.3 lines. I have pulled the reports into word and counted that way several times, and I always come out ahead their way. I am also on another account that is paid by the line, so I think it is only one account that is by the minute.


How much PTO does TT offer? Is it at your calculated hourly rate? What's the pay cut for VR? Ty.

Overtime is calculated in Elabor, in compliance with federal law....
We enter our hours into Elabor each day, and OT is calculated. Right now, with a slow workload, I doubt overtime is approved. As a matter of fact, it is not approved.
7 Cents can be good - it all depends how the line is calculated - sm

I see posting all the time saying don't accept 7 cents a line that we are worth at least 9 cents or more.  Well it all depends how the line is calculated.  These national companies usually pay character with or without spaces and some of them have their own counting software where you just have to go with what they say and can't actually verify what is really being counted.  With that said you can be paid 7 cents a line counting Keystrokes (bolding, underline, etc - example the word paid is four characters but if you bold it then it is 8 characters and if you underline too then it is 12 characters) which would usually equal around 9-10 cents or more a line depending on the format of the document.  So it is very misleading when some transcriptionists say 7 cents is insulting when actually it is good if you are getting keystrokes with Abacus and you can actually verify it yourself to make sure the company is paying for all the headers, footers, template, shifts, tabs, spaces, returns, bolding, italic, underling, caps, etc.  You really have to investigate how the line is calculated to be able to compare.  So to all you people that keep saying don't accept it....I bet the ones that have are actually getting paid more than you in the long run!
