you're in the minority if you've gotten all those raises...
You're the only person I've ever heard of who has gotten not only *a* raise, but raises every year. Even management people will tell you that they do not give regular or scheduled raises. I've asked every year I have been with Cymed and now with SPi and have gotten a grand total of 1 raise, and that was only because there were extenuating circumstances. More power to you, Jamilynn! :D

In the minority
A post below says MTs at Transcend that are not happy would be the majority, not minority there at that company.  How do you know this?  I am just wondering.  How do you know who is the majority or minority there when it comes to those who are happy versus those who are unhappy?  You said you had a lot of emails.  Those would be from the people who were in support of you, I suppose, those who are unhappy.  How do you know this is not the minority?  Those who are happy at Transcend don't speak out too much because of getting flamed.  I know many, myself included, who are quite content here but just don't say anything because they are jumped all over if they do.  There may be quite a majority of happy Transcenders, more than you know.
Unfortunately we are in the minority....
The starting rate is now 6 or 7, and a huge amount of new MTs are accepting those rates happily. Companies would rather hire a newbie at lower rates than an experienced MT asking for 50% to 75% more! Quality is not a factor. They can just have QA clean it up as many QA'ers are also accepting very low QA wages now. And because you really do get what you pay for, it is turning the industry into a cesspool. I just keep hoping the quality will get so bad they won't have a choice but to revert back to the way things were.
we are certainly in the minority I think...
but how much longer do you really think that will last? the last 2 companies I worked for everything including benefits was downgraded after 1 year, and it is even happening again where I am.

not to mention, there are so many others suffering, as to this board they seem like the majority suffering, and I would like to see everyone able to thrive.
Remember, these posters are the minority. (sm)
Just like any work place, there are always some who cannot be pleased.

I left MQ to go to a smaller company, took less pay, less PTO and a system that isn't as quick and efficient as DQS, but the people are sooo nice I plan on retiring from here.

This MT was always in the minority trying to warm people
My Christmas check was short, that was poo-poohed by posters here, my line count short of full time for overhiring, they are great was the response, only 1 person ever said they agreed and thought they were the only one. So, I would say actions speak louder than words. Maybe seeing that 3 cpl for VR (very low in this industry) and 7.5 cpl for full time acute care (because a person cannot get their lines b/c of overhiring) has become the norm for these wonderful people and this wonderful company. Well, if you can afford it go be with this wonderful company. Or, get a real job and remember the lesson of actions speaking louder than words, and the story of the scorpion and the frog... which I hope you already know...
Beg your pardon. Not the minority. Hospitals are getting clued in.

important.

If we give them the proof by way of solid proof in educating them on how it is done - they will bring transcription back in-house to gain control of the cost.

Medical records are legal documents.  Right now they are carelessly done and at great expense.  Hospitals are paying through the nose for this "convenience".  Times are getting tough and cost saving measures are on the horizon.

Control control control.

I agree with what you're saying.
A good workflow manager has to have the patience of Job. If you can keep from taking misdirected anger and frustration of others personally, and be able to work under a lot of stress without it ruffling a feather you might survive.

If you can't, everyone around you will suffer, along with your health and sanity. You're responsible for solving everyone's problems, even if they are unsolvable, and you've got to be able to sell the clients a bill of goods that can't possibly be achieved. It's true, it's the nature of the beast.

Couldn't pay me enough to be a workflow or production manager.
Yes I agree, we're not MDs!
The Medware test was absolutely RIDICULOUS...
I agree, and once you're with them

Then you'll have less options available as well.  If they're going to jerk you around and you haven't even officially started with them, can you imagine how they'll be when you're working with them?  Eek!

I agree...let it go!!! You're only hurting yourself
Forgive it, go on with your life and don't look back.  Believe me, you can harden yourself to that hurt and still have a great life. DON'T LOOK BACK!  Say God bless 'em and go on.  You are the one holding yourself back.
I agree. Without facts, you're all just stirring the rumor mill. sm
If you really have concerns, ask someone. Point blank, ask L if there is any need for concern! I truly, truly do not believe QT would ever outsource their work! I have never been happier with QT and I intend to stay, so if you want to leave, go ahead; more work for me!!!
Hope you're enjoying those slave wages you're earning.

So you guys feel you're getting paid what you're worth with VR?
I'm not trying to be snarky. I've never done VR, so I'm trying to understand.

You're happy with your paycheck with VR? Do you find the files to be as bad as the original post implied?
So you're telling me, basically, they're bad news?
They offered me 0.095/line and you know - it sounded too good to be true, but I SWEAR the recruiter told me they do not outsource. Oh brother... I just wish they'd be honest. I really don't know what to do.

s
No, they're not losing money....they're gaining!
If a company charges their clients by the line, I'm sure that line rate does not go down even though the MTs pay does.

ASR pays about 2/3 normal line rate to its MTs. Their ultimate goal is to have the MTs do twice as much work. Therefore, the client is getting their work faster, but paying their normal rate, while corporate gets that money and the MTs get the lower line rate.

Whether the newbies want to realize it or not, MTSOs have not increased MTs' salaries in the past 10 years. They still start out at the same pay as the last century!

This used to be a very lucrative profession. Nowadays, most MTs are considered to be paid at the poverty level. You don't believe me, look it up!
Hey, you're in luck then. They're hiring! (nm)

We're not 'so scared' of it. We're trying to help
you to not make a huge mistake, but I guess you're determined to learn the hard way, so good luck with that.
If you're in the 37% tax bracket, you're making over

You're right on it! They're just trying to cause panic.

How can you KNOW what you're doing without THINKING you know what you're doing?

The more people that quit, the more work left for me. I love it when people say they can't take doing MT anymore.

now we're getting somewhere....
Great qualities... absolutely. Can you be more specific. What type of communication do you think works? What doesn't? Concern is also important. But how far should it go. Certainly a company needs to be understanding if an MT has some problems, but remembering it is not the company's job to take care of someone, what about when the MT is not producing or working when scheduled? How long do you let it go on? What if the MT has chronic problems. What is the company's role here?

I can say my boss was ALWAYS flexible with my schedule, but I also made sure that I made up the time and the lines. I didn't abuse it.
You're better off
Someone else will appreciate your abilities.
You're welcome; here's what I can tell you ...
Spheris' family insurance is with United Healthcare and the premium for family coverage is about $180 per payperiod (2-weeks).

As far as PTO with Spheris, as a FT employee, you would earn 10 days a year for your first 5 years of service, then it goes up from there.

I hope that gives you a guideline to go by.
If you're looking for
and to be treated well, then you will like TT. They really are the best company I've ever worked, for and I've worked for more than a few. In this business of never meeting who you work for and not knowing what you're getting in to until it's too late, they are a breath of fresh air. They always pay on time, pay what they say they will pay, are very kind and honest. Good luck.
you're right...sm
when I was in school, for MA, not MT, my instructor said the ones taking the MT class were just waisting their time. I worked as an MA until I got pregnant, then worked as an MT after my son was born. I'm gonna ride it out as long as it's available. Then, hopefully I won't be too old to do something else!

Oh, if you're asking me -- I don't know. I wish I could
tell you, but I have no idea.

They're far from going under.

They're securing new accounts all the time because they're a good company with a fair, honest owner and a wonderful support staff and QA, etc.

I hear there are one or two bitter ex-employees out there who do nothing but trash the company, and it's totally unwarranted.

so what you're saying is . . .
No brains required! LOL! Sounds good to me!
If you're sure...
I would contact my coordinator and ask. I think the system is set up only with and without ops, that's it. On the VA account I do, if any report is skipped, the MT is questioned. Melody sent out an email not too long ago about cherrypicking and I know management is now noting who is skipping what.
Not sure if this is what you're trying to ask or not...
OSi now has what used to MQs so I guess they just resent each other. I had a little of what OSi now has. I got paid very well for working on that difficult account. I won't work for them just because I can't see taking such a huge pay cut just to do the same crap I've been doing for years. I moved on. No reason for me to bash anybody. However, the complaints on this board definitely helped me make that decision and I'm so glad that people do speak out when they're not treated right by a company.
You're welcome! nm
