Well I'm not worried. I'm going to retire at 50

Posted By: me on 2006-03-22
In Reply to: wake up, my dear...sm - MTSO

so only have 5 more years to go.  I can't see VR being a threat, at least not on my account.  I do all Ops, mostly ESL mumblers.  My hospitals are so particular about every little thing that they'd never accept the work that VR turns out.  IF It should go to VR in the next 5 years, someone still needs to proof it and by then my wrists will surely need a rest and I could do twice the lines a day that I could typing.

There IS a difference.

They need to have Deb retire completely
and have no contact with anyone they put in her place. She hates the world and passes her personal dislikes and vendettas down to everyone else. She has no management skills, no people skills, and operates like she has a mixmaster in her hands at all times.
Lucky you! Wish I could retire!

You know, it occurred for me to retire to one
of these off-shore places. Keep my dual citizenship. Live large on a tropical island, continue doing transcription and get the good work. Seriously. I'd make so much more over there for the cost of living and then, I could finally make ends meet...
What do you say, a bunch of us can infiltrate these places in the offices on the other islands, and then we'd have USA Transcriptionist as the offshore labor? No? Hmmm. Just a thought. LOL.
I am going to retire in four years
and go around the world. I have always wanted to take six months and go to every country I have wanted to see and so I will.
I'd go there, sue their dingies and retire.. NM

Maybe there's a "Home For Senior MT's" we can retire to! nm

Because I retire in 7 months - WHOPPEEE!
And, really, spewing venom everywhere?

To quote JPJ - I have not yet begun to spew.

Yoo hoo! Black Swan! I'm 60 yrs old. I just want to retire.
xx
Oh, horse poop, anyone can retire
I can retire, no big deal about that. Stated the facts, she is retired and she has come here to gab. I don't think she is particularly lucky. I am the age of retirement but choose to work because I want to make double the money. Don'cha think that is smart? I also don't have to worry about working, just do because I want to.
Sigh. I had not planned to retire for
probably another 10-15 years, if my wrists hold out that long, and had fully intended/hoped to have MDI be my last MTSO.  I have waded through a lot of frogs before finding my proverbial prince in the MT world and had hoped to finish out my career here.  Now I'm just utterly disheartened by this recent turn of events.  I'm looking into finishing my degree (wanted to do that anyway) and seeing what my options are after that, may have to get out of the profession altogether.  It's depressing, as it's a job I love that keeps me challenged on a daily basis.  I just have no desire to start anew with another company.
Soooo nice. This is the place I will retire from. nm

Very true, really long weekends at times, but no real vacation in 7 years.I'll travel when retire
nm
Like I said -- I'm not worried. No need for you to, either! :)
..
Worried
I was told pay day was 1st and 15th. Do not know if pay day is different for employee vs. IC. They pay from 2 weeks behind. Your invoice from the 1st does not get paid until the 15th. It takes a LONG time to get paid.
Worried
I had an invoice for 2 days work on 11/1 and did receive that until 11/25. Two more invoices in since then and still have not received my first 2 week paycheck. I am functioning on no funds at present.
Worried at QT also. SM
I also feel like things are happening and we are being kept in the dark. The work and the pay are there and that's good. I don't like unnecessary e-mails, so that is good, but instead these days it seems that the lack of communication is ominous. It seems that they are cutting back on every expense that they possibly can. Raises seem to have stopped quite a while ago. Why discontinue the IRA program if everything is fine? Is the rumor true that they only hire ICs now? I am a little worried, but I hope the company is okay because I still would not want to go elsewhere.
I'm worried about that too.
nm
To the nut job who was so worried....

about someone stealing something that belonged to them in the first place -- YOU'RE A MEAN 'OL A$$HOLE!!!!

I'm sure I'll be kicked off of here now, but it's worth it ;)

I'm a little worried also
I worked in the hospital for 3 years before they sent the MTs home. Same full benefits, hourly pay, 10h PTO accured every 2 weeks, cable and 2nd phone line for Lanier paid by company; I use company computer and Lanier system, and union ratifies our contract every 3 yrs.

I will be moving to another state and, therefore will no longer be employed by the hospital so I will be working under 1 of our current vendors being I already know the doctors; the pay will be 11 cpl, but of course, now I pay my own medical/dental. I can still make good money being I am familiar with the hospital, but I think the medical/dental part is going to put a big dent in my pocket. The good thing is, coming from in house, it's good to know when the vendors are working (like weekends and evenings) where I can make jump in and make the best money.

I have an IC job where I am the only MT on the account so that will help financially (I HOPE)

SCARRRY
Worried a bit too
I work at Webmedx too and I absolutely love my job! I love my supervisor and I love the people at Webmedx, but I too am concerned about the lack of work.  I have been having to jump on when it is not my regular shift to get my lines and in the last 2 pay checks I have not made my line counts. I have several accounts too.  I am hanging in there for now though, because I love it, just hope it gets better.
Worried too
Sounds like we may be on the same accounts. I actually did get a part-time job that I'll be starting soon. I'm not going to leave Webmedx, just going to supplement my income because this is a trend at all companies that I don't see ending any time soon.
worried too

This is a problem that Webmedx really needs to address.  I am not sure what the answer is, I just know that there are a lot of people who cannot pay their bills.

I am seriously worried about it -
In fact, I went and got an inhouse job this week that is part time and only pays me half of what I average typing at home hourly, but I know those 20 hours a week will be guaranteed pay. I am down right now about $600 for the pay period with only 2 days left to go. If those 2 days are anything like the last 2 weeks, I will end up $800 down for the 2 weeks.

I have the same thoughts that if you cannot pay for food and the basic necessities of life, then you won't be going to the doctor unless it is no longer an option. All these elective procedures are over for awhile - I wonder how many people will miss being diagnosed early for something and will end up losing their life anyway because they could not afford their routine care? I guess that is when our work will pick back up...

No, just worried. Being ignored.
Am I being paranoid? Yeah, guess that's it. Doesn't matter that they don't return my call.
Not worried

I have all documentation that they chose to let me go in their illegal manner and know that unemployment will be disgusted with them.

Yeh, worried about that as it has been at
the place I work now for the last, oh, probably 7 years and the dictation just keeps getting heavier.
Why would that be funny? Should I be worried about my job?
I just started 4 months ago and like it so far.  Who did she sell the company to?
No follow-ups? Now I'm worried. How about this,
forget about the DEP question.  What is a good company to apply for SE/IC status, preferrably one who will supply the equipment needed - or not.
Breitner - Worried
I was originally told that the pay days were the 1st and the 15th and then was told it was the 4th and the 20th, then the payroll people told me it was AROUND
Breitner - Worried
Sorry about that. Was told it was AROUND those dates by the payroll department.

Personally, I am always worried about the
companies who offer the sign-on bonuses. Know what I mean? I don't know - just makes me wonder...Call me paranoid!! Don't know much about them. I applied there and it just wasn't -- all that -- for me. Pay was rather low, 8 cpl, I believe. Very nonspecific about accounts and work load, etc, as far as guarantee of work. No other specifics. Oh, yes, no sign-on bonus then!
I'm not worried,. How would you like to be out of work for

4 months like I was at my last job....now THAT sucks. Doesn't pay the bills.

TT has been very busy until lately and I'm grateful for the work...and even more grateful when there is a bit of a break since I haven't had one in a year. Hang in there. It will get better. At least there is enough work to get a paycheck.

I would be worried about someone thinking that
If KS stated that you had to be at 1200 lines per day by a certain date, I would 100% believe that, and at best be pleasantly surprised if I did not make that requirement and they were understanding. But I don't think it is a blanket statement at all. I think they mean it. I also think that's an unrealistic requirement, and the pay for sure does not match that sort of pressure.  8 cpl is 8 cpl is 8 cpl.
Worried - Keystrokes
Just got hired by Keystrokes. There is so much good and bad about every company but it seems a lot of discrepancy between people who work/worked for Keystrokes who say they get paid OT and those who don't, people saying there's lots of work and someone who just said they ran out of work after two days. I was told that I will be put on a large teaching hospital, and find it hard to believe they would run out of work. Would really like to know the reality of the situation. I do not want to make a mistake in taking this job but have concerns given all the conflicting information and do not know what to believe anymore. I currently work for a company where I make very good money (even though I have to work harder because management assigns me the difficult jobs given my speed and experience), but recently management has become even more intolerable, and I'm looking to switch. I just do not want to get into a worse situation. Any feedback would be appreciated.
I agree but also worried.... sm

I believe it is probably a combination of all those things.  I am concerned that some of these accounts may be going to EMR.  What I hate is the lack of communication regarding this.  If an account is in process of being lost, wouldn't it be nice if somebody in management would communicate to those of us who are trying to support our families.  Maybe they could tell us it's time to move on either to a different account or even a different company because MDI-MD does not have enough work for them.  Of course, that would be too kind... way too much to ask.  Just let the MTs 'catch on' on their own over time and they will drop out on their own.

It is possible they over hired to stay up with what they said is the AAMT's new strict rules on TATs.  Well, wonderful for MDI-MD that they are staying within their TATs with all of their new employees.  Kind of like Wal-Mart, huh?  Hire so many that none them can work full time and therefore none of them get benefits.

With MDI-MD, hire so many of them that we, management, look pristine and yet not one of the MTs can make a decent living.

Thanks, thanks a lot!

Webmedx - worried

Is anybody else at Webmedx worried about being out of work so much?  I'm really struggling to get even 35 hours in a week without having to constantly jump on during second shift hours, which is very difficult for me with all I have going on in my home in the evenings.  I'm on the Enterprise platform with multiple accounts.

If you've been there for over a year, is this a normal fluctuating trend for the company?  I really don't want to have to get a supplemental part-time job.

I have just been there a year, but I'm quite worried. SM
Have multiple Enterprise accounts as well. Didn't really run out--except for the expected holiday times--for the first 6 months. I guess they just overhire? I'm with you, though. It's a great company, but it doesn't matter how great the company is if you constantly run out of work.
I'm not worried about the accusation
I'm not worried because this person is or is just like Wendy from Wolfstar. I don't think I am avoiding questions that anyone is asking...just questions that are proprietary. I'm sorry this is confusing for some but I have a national security clearance and I cannot afford for a company to think that I am passing along confidential information. For some of these companies that don't have me officially on their payroll that proprietary information includes the company and physician names.
Hmm. Why wouldn't VP be worried about
someone messing with her company?
how worried should we be about Webmedx?
I also had that account as a backup and yes, we knew a long time ahead of time that it was leaving. However, I also do not have another backup account and my work on my primary is very slow and erratic. I have been on it for years and never saw anything like this. Looking for the general feel other employees are feeling about Webmedx. My STM is fairly positive but I am starting to be quite worried when reading here. Any thoughts? Time to start looking? Or just a rough patch that we will get through?
And we were SO WORRIED you'd accept... nm
.
If you're addressing me, I'm not worried.
I consistently exceed each company's expectations.

I don't share intellectual property in any manner with the other company whatsoever.

I don't use either company system for anything other than work for that company.

I'm not worried. If I were to be let go by either company, I still have the other and even if BOTH let me go simultaneously, I'll be employed in 24 hours.

I'm just not worried.
There is absolutely nothing to be worried about. If you need reassurance
call and talk with the owner.
Worried sick at Amphion
I am not getting up to speed and worried that I will be let go at the end of my probation. This is not all my fault because I have to add all the patient information in the screen before I can start typing. I don't have a good feeling about this and my supervisor is not helpful. Will they let me go because I am not meeting the line requirements at the end of probation or will they work with me? I chose Amphion over another company and now wish I hadn't done that. Should I just find out if the other company will hire me now instead of waiting until I have no job at all, the holidays are coming up and I am really worried.
I was hired without testing too -- why be worried? sm

I talked with her today and will be working for the CardioScribes division.  I'm only PT, so maybe that's why I'm not too concerned.  It sounds like a great deal in a lot of ways.  The above poster was right.  I have 30+ years of experience and some of the best jobs I have had, I never tested for, although I do understand why most companies require it.  It is easy to lie on a resume, I suppose.  Regardless, I'm anxiously awaiting my paperwork.  I love my FT job, but it is nice to have a little gravy too.

Good luck!

yeah but I wasn't worried about it - sm
Things get lost in the mail, stuck in the mail, or someone accidentally gets overlooked now and then but it is always righted.

I'm scheduled to start soon, now I'm worried.
Somehow I'd gotten the idea they had improved their ways of treating people over the last year or so. I'm beginning to wonder if Focus is even worth trying out.
Sounds like focus to me. Be worried and RUN!
