I don't know why you think that's not much profit
Maybe if you only have one employee that's not much of a gain, but if you take the hundreds of employees that some of these MTSOs have, and take into account that their overhead costs are minimal, they're doing pretty good. Frankly, the 10 cpl jobs are few and far between and most run 8-9, which means the company is potentially making what I make. If I had even 5 people funneling that kind of money to me, I would probably be doing pretty good, or at least better than I am now.
MTSO profit????
How does the MTSO make any money? If they pay the MT 9 cents, and the QA 5, the would mean charging the client at least 16 to 18 cents per line to just cover overhead and make a VERY small profit. I don't see a lot of docs paying that kind of money for transcription.
fixing issues/profit
Yeah, guess that is why Transcend had a press release that came out yesterday with a 74% increase in revenue from the prior year quarter. Here is an excerpt from that press release. "Most of the revenue increase of $2,779,000 between the second quarters of 2005 and 2004 is attributable to the acquisition of Medical Dictation, Inc (“MDI”) on January 31, 2005. MDI contributed revenue of $2,294,000 to the second quarter of 2005."
They're not making a profit.
I work at Futurenet. I don't mind paying the 25.00. It's guaranteed by 10:30 a.m. It has only been late once and I was reimbursed the cost. It's worth it to me for the peace of mind.
Why dont you do the work for 6 cpl and keep all the profit for yourself but
I expect you cant do it so you try to hire people for 6 cpl that can do it.  I bet you didnt get hundreds of applications this time.
It gave D lots of profit?
That's about the only positive I can think for the scenario.

Sorry, I wish I could be more positive but we've been in a losing battle to get our lines and enough money to live for at least 2 months now, and ALL of our cries for help or an explanation were met with dead silence.

The suspicions were indeed 100% correct, which also confirms that they were reading this board and not with any honesty contest that which was being speculated.

Like I said, yeah, really classy, MDI-MD.

Great way to trash all those years and hard work building up that reputation.

I now rank you right up there with Heartland, the Q, Spheris, and those other MTSOs that outsource their work and pizz all over their MTs on their way up.

Classy, guys, really classy.

Up yours...I'm walking. Best of luck on your new 'venture', and I hope you all sleep well at night on your pillows of fresh greenbacks.

Actually, I kinda hope you suffocate in them.
You file a Schedule SE on your profit income.
and you pay social security and medicare tax .  While you have to pay the full amount on the social security tax and medicare you can deduct half that amount to your adjusted gross.  I really need to find out more about this because if I have been paying too much on my social security tax I really want to know.  Does anyone else know about this?  Are there any IC contractors who are not paying social security tax or only paying 7% as you would as an employee and not an independent?  Perhaps it has to do with how you set yourself up.  Thanks for any info....
I think they are making a much larger profit on the backs of MTs...
Think about it. Do you think it is costing the clients any less for their transcription. How would they even know it was VR? If the MTSO charges the same, they are making more money (half of what they used to pay the MT).
I get 10-12 cents a line from clients so I can only pay 6-71/2 to make any profit.
There are some clinics/hospital that will pay more but they also want you to do a lot more secretary stuff which the management staff does and you do not see.  I know some of the huge nationals are raking in the profit and not spreading it around to well deserved transcriptionists but us smaller nationals or local companies are not getting those huge accounts that pay 16-20? cents a line.  There is overhead too to pay like your utility bills, dictation equipment and upkeep, long distance phone bills, advertising, paper, printers, ink, faxes, health insurance, etc and then the income for the management team, proofers, and computer techs.  I am not trying to take up for the huge companies that rake it in but if you haven't had your own business in the field then you really can't speak about what goes on after you turn in your work because you have no idea.  Making comments to ad that can't offer more like me does not help anyone.  I find plenty of experience transcriptionists happy with the pay, workload, and TAT.  I wish I could offer more but when you are only making 3-4 cents of profit and still have your overhead that is not greedy.  Your checks are nearly the same as the transcriptionists. If you don't like the pay find your own account - you do the leg work and don't respond to if it does not interests you as it does to a lot of people.
I wasn't rude. All I said was that if I was trying to profit from recruiting people, I would
have left contact information. I didn't get called out and was never rude. How is stating FACTS rude? I'm also not offended because your logic makes no sense to me. I speak the truth. But it doesn't matter. If we have anything negative or positive to say about ANY company whatsoever, we're either recruiters or disgruntled ex-employees. I didn't get called out because there was nothing to call out on. Please, take your senseless accusations elsewhere. The board administrators know exactly who I am, so they can back me up when I say that I'm not a recruiter. I'm (GASP!) a happy employee FINALLY after ages of searching for the right company!!!!
I think you are right. Eliminate cost. Be more competitive. Save profit margin.

George says what he means or is it he means what he
but he sure does apologize in a way I've never heard a person whose company is valued at $8m a year apologize before and I've worked for companies who played who is the president of the week game! All I can say is that his personal interview about his high school reunion has a distinctly different style than his late January postings in which he degrenates the poster he tries to engage. Just remember George's quote we are misinformed.
my first year I made 16k. Doubled that second year. Going on year 6 with (sm)

two local accounts I earned 23,000.00 and a national I earned 35,400... 58,400 this year.  Don't ask me how many hours, though, I really have no idea.  I'm pretty motivated.  (When people ask me how many hours I work a week I reply as many as it takes  I'd say 40-50/week.  I am also a fitness instructer and personal trainer, about 5 hours a week or so.  Decent money (sometimes under the table!) but mostly I just do it for fun and to be social and wear cute work-out clothes.

that first year was a rough one... but I consider it part of my education.

I'm pretty motivated.

Last year, there was a letter sent that told us what we earned the previous year. sm
In the past, it has been all or nothing; if you did not hit the lines for full time for the year, you did not get PTO. I talked to my lead this morning about a last-minute vacation and she told me that the yearly packets are going out in a week or so and that the new policy will acrue PTO by the pay period or month. I like that a lot better, but she also made it sound like they are upping the amount of lines needed to acrue PTO. I normally get between 15 and 20,000 lines per pay period, so I am sure that will be fine but I am worried about the periods that have lower volumes, like most of January every year.
Webmedx lets you carry them from year to year sm
You can accrue up to 140 hours (I think) before you stop the accrual process. Don't have to use it all in one year.
I would stick it out, most places are slow now through the end of the year every year (nm)

Nobody said MT companies were not for profit companies. (sm)....
As MTs we are an important segment of what it takes for the company to thrive, but we are still just part of the whole structure.

Not trying to be argumentative, just think sometimes we get that "I'm the quarterback" attitude and forget that we can't get anywhere without our line men.
Last year $36K part time, going to make more this year full time BUT sm

I AGREE it IS getting harder to make money.  I used to make $24 very part time 10 years ago and now...well it is Word and platforms versus WP5.1.  I got 7.5 cents a byte line then and I get 9.5 cents a character line now.  That IS a huge different in point of fact.

OH I WANT MY WORDPERFECT 5.1 BACK!!!!! Bwaaah!

What it means to me?
As an employee of Heartland, what my understanding is of what that means to me....I am still an employee, and more than likely the purchasing company will need me just like Heartland needs me now. Waiting for the conference calls to hear more information.
It means
That SoftScript screws everyone who has a brain between their ears.  The "newbies", and no offense intended, run the company because that is all they have because anyone with any experience has LEFT and rightly so.  They take your lines, make you think you are insane, have you work 24-7 to get a decent pay, and god bless if it is on time, which it actually has been x2 since they have been bashed on this board.  THAT IS WHAT ALL THIS MEANS.  The management is the worst, QA the worst, and lies beyond belief.  That is what all this means.  DUH.
It means they need it right now!
What stat. means to you as a Transcriptionist is that the turnaround needs to be fast! It would be identified in your accounts specs or your contract or whatever what the turnaround is.  Maybe it is an hour, maybe 2 hours, maybe 4 hours after it is dictated.  Whatever it is, it means that they need it back quickly. It has priority over anything else.
what does this means?

Im a newbie MT and trying to find a job.  I would like to ask what does this means as for compensation?  Is this good?

Compensation Information: Subcontract, 9 cents for 65 keystrokes

what does this MEANS....
xx
Yes, I think that is what it means. Not sure why they don't just say so LOL.
x
It means there is no more. nm
x
So that means
You can thank the politicians in DC (both parties) for passing NAFTA and giving us the SHAFTA...
What do you think this means?
I'm wondering what this new COO means for us down here typing away in the trenches.  Does anybody know anything about him?
for now usually means

until we get all our people making half what you do trained, then  . .  . .

SE means
statutory employee. Like an IC (independent contractor) you pay your own taxes, set your own schedule, etc, but as an SE, the employer pays part of the SS taxes. No benefits come with either IC or SE positions, other than freedom.
Thank you all, that means a lot to me
:)
exactly, which means
if you are going to claim yourself 100%, you need to present it also. Talk is so cheap.
OT for some means OOW for others

I normally work 3-11 pm.  I come on and look at my email.  The boss approved OT early this AM because we were out of TAT; by the time I punch in we're within an hour of dictation, BUT SHE LEAVES APPROVED OT UP THERE, and by 8 pm I'm OOW because all the day people got the OT (and are still on there wanting more) and I'm lucky if I get my 8 hours working secondaries putting in a 10 hour day.

How so? If they are IC, and know what that means,
x
OK, that means no. I'm sure if the SM

money was in your account right now, you'd be posting it all over the boards about how you were right.

My pay was in the bank on the day it was supposed to be-I wish yours had been also.

I'm not sure exactly what this all means
but I'll see what happens if i still decide to send my resume. Thanks for the information.
By all means, when you having nothing
proclaim yourself in charge of mtstars QA, fondle that typing police baton for a moment or two, then launch into full-blown attack mode and WHUP UP. FOP.
I would like to know what it means
NM
Know what IM means, but what do they
nm
I don't think that is what she means
I think (and I could be wrong) her hospital was bought by CHS and she was an in-house employee. She and her co-workers have to be trained as if they were new hires to Spheris.  They will go through a 90-day probation period as would any other new-hires.  The Spheris Specials Team will be covering her hospital's acounts while she and her co-workers are being trained.  Somewhere on here it was discussed that CHS or whatever their name is was out-sourcing their work to Spheris and it involved the hospital employees being transitioned at their current pay scale but then it could go down to the Spheris pay scale.  She's not training anyone with samples, etc.
So, not sure - EMR means??
Electronic medical records and does this mean they are entering template dictation or their own typing dictation, what?  Does that work, time-wise for them as they chug out 6-8 patients an hour..
What it means
is probably FELLOW. They probably saw it on some physician's certificate or some place in academia. The difference is that in medical school or academia, the title of FELLOW is earned, not conferred upon oneself's like the nonsense spewed by AHDI. And, like you, I think it stands for something unprintable. At least to my own mind, that is about all it is worth.
She said "embrace it" which also means
embrace the low pay it briNG suction with it. How do you pay for a gallon of gas that has increased by 300-400% with a pay check that has decreased by 50-60% or more unless you are willing to give up eating, sleeping, and breathing to have enough hours in a day to correct the mistakes created by this wonderful technology, usually done on a program that would have been thrown into the trash in the early 90s because they are so poorly written and so user-unfriendly, that is being endorsed as the "coming thing". This post was written by someone in management who is not faced with losing money in any way, shape or form, because even if the hospitals pay less per line, they will still continue to make more because they pay their worker-bees a third of what they paid before for the same amount of work.

Well, just maybe the tables will turn and they will have some major major medical disaster caused because of an inaccurate report typed by one of these wonderful speech recognition devices that they are getting rich from and the untrained Editor they hired at a less than minimum wage to edit the report did not know the difference in what they were editing.
By all means, CALL them, and if that
doesn't accomplish anything, CALL THEM again!!! Explain to them that you are being patient, but DO require an income........ may just be a simple oversight. I never hesitate to call!!!
I think what that poster means is that SM

to ask for a job to do only 300 lines per day (which for an average MT is about 1-1/2 to 2 hours a day) and a specific kind of platform AND to just "hop on during the day" is just too unrealistic in today's world.

Most companies who hire for part time want a true part-time schedule, 15-20 hours per week, 600+ lines per day (versus normal full-time 1200 lines).

I mean, think about it.  300 lines a day is maybe 2 consults or 2 H&Ps, 1 psychiatric report....see what I mean?  It's really not much work at all.

I thnk it means
your scheduled hours approved by your CSC. But don't quote me on that, there is a # you can call and I'll bet Monday morning it will be full of messages. That line is only M-F.
Not true by any means
Please, stop making up lies and get back to your MT work.  I feel sorry for you actually.
and by all means - know how to spell -
especially RECRUITERS!!
It means QT is history
It means get a job where your employer has no ties to India or any other country taking jobs from Americans. It means money and greed win once again.   It means a really good company sold its soul and a lot of great MTs for a scrapbook.  It means that if you check the archives as far back as nearly a year ago, you will find subtle and not so subtle hints that QT was in huge trouble and has been for quite some time.    If you've worked there for any amount of time, you already know there is trouble, whether you admit it or not. Good companies go bad.  Chalk this experience up and find a better one.
Not sure what this means? You think it is speculation or what?
nm
So that means WITH spaces? (nm)

Well, it's not fake by any means but it is not
realistic for new MTs.
