I can't believe you would post something like this. It is a very nice gesture what she is doing. You can't tell me that you would not appreciate if your employer did something nice for you. There are not many companies who do that. Yes, a raise is always nice but come on you were very harsh.

It IS a nice gesture and I didn't mean to be harsh.  I'm just saying I've worked for 30 years in business and I know how some in management think -- and I don't like it.  Like I said, for those employers who truly value their employees and treat them fairly year round, this is a wonderful gesture.  For those employers who couldn't care less and think only in terms of fattening their own pockets and think that saying thank you once a year is enough and use it in place of a raise, you can forget it.  I've worked for those kinds and that is what has soured me to this whole week thing.  I compare it to honoring your mother on Mother's Day and then never calling her throughout the year.  Same principle.
