in addition, while the office staff are partying, visiting with each, breaking whenever they want to

with pay, we are struggling to pound those cold keys with our cold fingers with our break drinks, meals at our desk . . . no time to take off due to no pay for any time taking off for a break or lunch.   We are grabbing all the work we can get now before another MT gets it, as our paychecks continue to dwindle due to VR/ASR and leads and others taking the easier dictators from us (those who have ever transcribed a word in their life) and passing all the other down to the piecemeal worker, the MT.

Usually on visiting doc's office, they ask if I am in the medical field because
I can speak right along with them on most they say, don’t have to have it put in laymen's terms. I do not say I am but am asked if not in the medical field, countless times.
Office Staff TT
I think they are more aware than ever with the new accts. that more office and management staff is needed. Lately they've promoted a couple from within the company to act as lead transcriptionists to take some of the burden off of the acct. manager and others in the supervisory position to give them more time to answer other questions. There is Eyvonne, who I think is the actual supervisor and Diana, Donna, Nancy and another one I do not know the name of that are doing jobs that once only one person was doing. I think it's super they did this. It helps out a lot having someone always there to ask questions if you need an answer. Eyvonne is always responsive and Donna and Diana are simply fabulous. They are so kind and try to answer your questions quick. The other night I had a question and emailed the lead MT address and even though Donna did not know the answer, her answer was I don't know but I'll find out for you and she DID. How many times do you hear of someone saying that and really doing it? Not often. They needed to do this a long time ago. I've only been with TT for almost a year but I really like it here and they seem to really be conscious that we are what makes this company work. Agree with you too, I love all the work recently.
I worked for them also and the greatest office staff. .. nm

It was stated the leak came from office staff.

There was also the issue of an MT getting a QA file that wasn't hers, the lended more fuel to the fire.    I know a few more things that I can't say without pointing the finger at myself that also has me concerned.

I guess until someone gets up the nerve to ask the MTSO we'll never know.

My MTSO only gives bonus to office staff. MTs do

their QA is rude. The office staff will slap you right in the head. don't think about it.
they are all nicey nice until you don't sniff the right way, then WHAMMO
Great office staff, okay pay, horrible ESL's, no bennies....NM

Great office staff, okay pay, horrible ESL's on all accounts. NM

Are the office staff male or female? The reason I ask is

that in India women are generally second class citizens.   I'm sure they are becoming westernized, but when people marry in India the wife becomes a possession.

I wondered if the office staff were male and the reason for their lack of social graces is more because of culture than anything.  Regardless not pleasant and doesn't matter why.

Great office staff, okay pay, no benefits, horrible ESL all accounts...NM

LOVE IT! Been here 2 weeks and am already up to my past production. The office staff are
wonderful, I love my account and am so glad I made this move.
TransTech sent an Amex gift cheque and a lovely card signed by all the office staff.
Very thoughtful and a nice surprise. I love these people.
YOG - Lots of work, great office staff, great money. NM

Partying Buddies
I had these 2 docs that I swear were drinking buddies. I would pull their work back to back, and often I could even hear the same music in the background. One of them was a glass swisher and usually the first thing I would hear was the ice clinking around his glass. I knew I was in for a wild ride on those nights because they would usually catch up on ALL their dictation on drinking nights. By the end of the evening...well, you can imagine.
The staff and the attitudes of the staff. Very helpful, cheerful. (sm)
They seem to work extremely hard to balance everything out, enough work, enough MTs and always making sure they let the MTs know they are a valuable asset to the company. That means a lot. Not to mention the bennies are pretty good, too.
what helps me is breaking up my day
in 2 and 3 hour shifts. I can just keep my head above water this way and some days I may go above that point.  I have heard a few others here share this same strategy.  It is hard to sit here for 8 hours straight, day in and day out. I can produce more in shifts that are broken up. Also find the time of day you feel you are most productive. Good luck!
breaking into the business

I agree, the best way to to become a good Transcriptionist is to have some medical background.  There is so much slang on top of the terminology.  I too am self-taught, but worked in hospital's and nursing homes before I started doing transcription.  Maybe she could work while she is taking the course.

This breaking news just in.
We already are. You got nothing of importance to offer to anybody but yourselves.
Is breaking the law okay if it is a sweet deal? (nm)

Uh....before you stop visiting here
you might want to check out the post further down the page. Doesn't sound like sour grapes to me, more like you did that one wrong.

Maybe the reason you have caught a lot of grief on this board is because you apparently know how to dish it out but you can't take it. What goes around, comes around. I hate to tell you this but you come off sounding rather bitter yourself.

I'm just wondering why you people from Keystrokes feel the need to defend yourselves so much. There must be some truth to what is posted here about you. They can't all be transcriptionists who can't cut it or don't fit. Maybe the bad fit lies within your organization. How did all those bitter people get hired in the first place?

There is an awful lot of pettiness and ugliness in those who post from your company, dear. Those who live in glass houses shouldn't cast the first stone.

I do wish you the best and I hope those growing pains that you seem to have had for so long feel better soon.
To any visiting clients

The opinions expressed on this board represent only a fraction of the MTs that may be servicing your accounts.  As an MT who is proud of the MTSO for which she works, I apologize for the appalling Jerry Springer-like antics of this chat board and wish to assure that most MTs that I work with are thoughtful, hard-working professionals who do know the difference between venting a frustration and turning into an ugly mob of pitchfork-carrying villagers. Though I defend their right to an opinion no matter how churlish and embarrassing it is, I also assure you that there are still MTs working on your dictation who realize that there are live patients who depend upon us.  I just thought you needed to hear this.

To any visiting clients
I agree! I appreciate the company I work for and am happy to have a job.
Only if you are doing a lot of breaking when your're supposed to be working. sm
I don't think bathroom breaks should take that long to make that big a difference :)
No back breaking here. Trying to empower sisters,
q
Maybe while visiting, slip him an alprazolam.
.
I don’t work for them so I am just visiting this board
I am not paranoid because I already do VR at another place. I thought the reason for the question was trying to figure out by having so many or so little as to how VR would work. Well, gotta go as time for me to start work.
To any visiting clients - the opinions SM

you are seeing come from years of being treated badly by the companies you sign transcription contracts with.

We are treated like indentured servants.  Every year, our benefits disappear or cost much more.  Every year, we are not only not given any kind of a raise in pay, but we are forced to accept pay CUTS with little to no notice given by our employers.

Part of the responsibility for this mess is in your lap also - for demanding that services provided to you come cheaply.  Would you demand that your own employees suddenly be paid 1/3 less for a portion of their jobs?  What would happen if you did?

If you're feeling really bold, why don't you experiment with that concept?  Ask your nurses to be paid 1/3 less for the portion of their job that requires paperwork, for example. They aren't providing direct patient care, so that portion of the job should cost you less, right?

Tell all of your employees that you will no longer offer direct deposit for their paychecks.  Then tell them that they have to pay $25 to have their checks FedExed to them or depend on snail mail for free.  How well do you think that would go over?

Just a slice of what we MTs have to accept every day.

To the clients visiting the board: Please realize

that this is a board set up FOR medical transcriptionists to vent, to socialize, and to network.  I'm sure that as management you have your own means of networking.  If you are visiting please know you are welcomed, but please do realize that the comments made here, while some may very well be 'Jerry Springer' like, are made out of frustration for our field in general.  With the majority being remote transcriptionists, we do not have the normal venue for getting our things off our collective chest at the water cooler or in the break room with our colleagues.  Most of the time we don't even know the names or emails of our coworkers in our own companies.  So we come here and sometimes the venting gets rough.

Please, do not take it personally, as some feel you may, but also please keep in mind the context of the posts and the fact that you will have Jerry Springer-esque behavior anywhere and everywhere.  It is not limited to the MTs, the residents, the PA's, this board, etc., and it is probably less than 5% of the total number of posters.  I'm also hoping, as a former manager myself, you're not thinking the same term I am about those who feel the need to run up and apologize where an apology isn't necessary.  After all, we are professionals and we do know how to take things in context.

Thats Right its not breaking any codes to tell the hospital that you didnt get paid for the work. nm
k
oh yea they fired a couple of people for sexual harrassment and breaking into mt's computers.

In addition (sm)
TRS is one of the worst companies for scheduling -- they expect you in your seat, emailing if you leave it for 15 minutes (and the emails go to all your coworkers, not just your supv). Supposedly there is a 12-hour window in which to do one's 8 hours, but this varies by account: my friend's account required a very strict 8-hour shift with no variations, but there was never enough work, so she ended up working 12 hours to make her line counts. Frequent platform crashes also impacted her work flow.
But don't you think in addition to
the fines the employer pays, the IC will have to go back and re-file all past tax returns?  There are going to be implications for taxes on both parties.  You have to file a form SS-8 with the IRS about why YOU think YOU are an employee and not an IC.  It is done on a case-by-case basis and you have to sign the form.  The MTSO will then have to respond to the inquiry and the IRS may or MAY NOT think the IC is an employee.  Either way, you are without a job.
In addition, they want to do an 'FBI'
I think this is ludicrous. All of that paperwork so they can check into every little detail of your past so you can work in your house. I said forget it.
Addition to resume

Hi Mari,

Well said!  I'm going to include your first paragraph on mine and see what they think!

Wow, in addition to your check?
That sounds like a sweet deal.
I have a question in addition to the OP's

I'm thinking about purchasing Stedman's spellchecker.  Does anyone else use their personal spellchecker with Bayscribe.  If so, does it work well with it and which one do you use?

I'm also thinking about purchasing my own personal Expander at the same time.  I'm looking at InstaText.  Any comments on it?

To the OP:  All transitions are uncomfortable at first, but don't give up.  I've only been with them a couple of months, but I like it.  As for getting my line counts, I'm up to 1000 lines a day.  It takes me a little longer than it did at my other job - but my other job used voice recognition, which helped a lot but paid less.  I'm also doublechecking my reports before I send them in because I was told the account I'm on is scrutinized very closely.  As I said above, I'm looking into my own expander and spellcheck software.  I've had a few spelling errors that the spellcheck didn't catch.  But at least you can add those in the expander to spell correctly.  The people at the company are great and QA staff is wonderful.  They treat like humans, not machines or numbers.  Good luck.  Feel free to email me if you want.

Wonderful addition -sm
Thank you for adding it to the list. The two of you need to represent all of us. How about forming a union? I'll join. Just tell me when and where to sign up. Thanks again!!
Agree 200%!! In addition,---sm

Exploitation is nothing new in the home MT business, but I think that since our economy has taken such a nosedive recently, a lot of companies are using this to their advantage and pushing it to the limit.  Their attitude is, LUCKY YOU HAVE A JOB, SO LIKE IT OR LUMP IT.  My response to them would be, AND YOU'RE JUST AS LUCKY TO HAVE A JOB (TO THE MTSOs) AS WE ARE.  Would the companies have been able to push this VR fiasco on us before, before the market took a nosedive?  I doubt it, but they thrive on the desperation of many MTs who have no other options at this point.

Any relationship, busines or personal, thrives on old-fashioned give-and-take.  MTSOs need to realize they can't just TAKE and TAKE and TAKE and TAKE indefinitely.

The main office was in Bolingbrook but they built an office in Yorkville last fall. SM
I think that the owners live in Yorkville, so it was built close to their house. Nice office, just pretty far out.
In addition you forgot to mention...sm
that the sky is falling and we'll all lose our jobs fears were prevalent back when PCs were introduced, and we're all still working.  With the government requiring more and more documentation to be made electronically there's still a ton of work to be done and no VR system is going to have it perfect, ever.
In addition to that I wonder if test files
are not a way to get some transcription done.  Some of the testing is so long.  I've had where the company will send practically a whole day's worth of work for testing purposes.
In addition, all kinds of innuendos .sm

by them (i.e., sexual; suicide, etc) before any sort of investigation, autopsy, or in short, before they know the facts.

Hats off to his brother, Keith, for demanding an FBI investigation.

Do you mean in addition to your reg Friday work? When do they give it to you?
nm
one of MANY reasons, in addition to living expense,
NM
TransTech does - Hourly in addition to line rate
/
That would be an extra 50 to 100 dollars in addition to lines and a half. nm
nm
I currently do this kind of work in addition to my medical accounts...sm
The rate seems pretty low, at least compared to what I make, and I can tell you from my experience with this type of work, it is very tedious. Expanders aren't nearly as helpful as in medical transcription, so it's pretty much straight typing. On the other hand it is a nice change of pace from the medical aspect, but for what they want to pay, probably best suited to a newbie.
Just curious, is the MQ Nashville office the old Lanier office? nm
nm
I don't work in the office and never claimed to. I am just saying that since the new office open
October with everyone of the admin staff in one place, these problems do not occur any more.
yeah, but wouldn't you really like your holidays paid in addition to PTO? sheeeesh
xx
TransHealth has 6 paid holidays in addition to PTO and sick pay for fulltimers. nm
