thanks for the support, Labor Dept. did say ... sm
that they will investigate and they will get compensation for me on lost investment earnings. MW sent me a check for what they withheld from my pay but denied my request for 4% interest that I would have gotten in my money market account. I truly hope this is just my problem and not the other 133 participants in MW's 401(k) plan. I have not been in the plan long enough to be vested so their contributions don't matter to me personally.
Personal Choice
While I understand the sentiment of your rant, the reality is you're blaming someone else for your choices. If you want to be a REAL IC, then ditch the middle man, go get your own accounts and deal with the client directly. Explain to them that you only want to work when you feel like it, or that you only want good dictators, or that you can only type if your family has nothing else on the schedule. Pay your own taxes. Carry your own weight.

Yes, there are many companies treating MTs like employees and calling them ICs..... but they COULD NOT do this if MTs didn't CHOOSE to work through a middle man.

If you are an IC, you should be presenting a contact TO THE SERVICE (not the other way around) with your rates, you availability, etc. Have you done this?

And being new is not a reason for being under-trained. It means you don't have the skills if you are catching flak. A service is under no obligation to train you. They ASSUME if you are calling yourself an MT that you have the skills that intimates.

And no, I'm not a supervisor for any company, I'm not a service owner, I'm just a grunt who realizes that I'm an adult and a professional and I DO get to decide what the trade-offs are for doing my job.
First Choice is great! nm

great choice
I work for Transform and use Vscript.  I absolutely LOVE it.  I have been an MT for 10 years now and have worked for 2 nationals and 3 small companies.  This is the BEST company/platform ever.  I can produce 2000 lines a day and the management/owners are fantastic.  Tech support is great too.  My computer has crashed twice in the last few months and the tech guy has been able to save me!  I can't say enough good things about the company/platform.  Good luck to you!
I think that is great. Very wise choice.
xx
Agreed, not a great choice...sm
I was with them for four years. Finally had enough. I can't even begin to tell you what's wrong with this company. Apparently, they've changed. Doubtful, not with some of the same troublemakers on board.
Clear Choice looks great
Wonderful staff, great accounts, very flexible company - love the website!
It is First Choice Medical and they are a great company. Nothing bad to say. Try'em. nm
x
You would love it. Great tech support
very easy program. Good luck.
But TT has great tech support - important to me too (sm)

The company I worked for before had terrible to no tech support.  In fact, the tech people (I use the term loosely) continually screwed things up.

First Choice Medical is a great company to work for, and I think they are hiring too.
I have been there for over 4 years now. They use WP51 too if you want. Good luck to you.
You made a good choice. The staff is great, program simple. Welcome! nm

All good. Computers they supply $20 PP. Average pay, but GREAT support!
Work load consistent. Nothing bad at all to say. LOVE THEM!
I work on a great platform, have good QA support and make

a lot more than 8 cpl.  I even have GREAT benefits, which are more than affordable.  There are good companies out there that pays for experience!!!!

Mine is great
My company, which is All Type, has the best communication I have seen anywhere!  My account manager sends out drug updates and anything else helpful she might find AND answers emails nearly around the clock.  She also stays on IM for instant answers to questions and posts her phone number in her emails!!  I'm never left in a lurch not knowing what to do because I can either IM, email, or pick up the phone.  We all get nearly instant feedback and it's not just a nasty email saying you made a mistake, it's a copy of the mistake and a note explaining why it is a mistake.  I just couldn't be happier!
I love the company -- great people, good tech support, sm

good benefits.  The pay could be more, but at least there is a production incentive tier that is not too tough to achieve.   Overall, I would say this is probably one of the best places I have ever worked.  If the no work situation continues, I guess I will just have to call them and ask for a secondary.  Everyone in the office has always been very helpful and supportive.   I just get nervous when it is not a holiday or anything and no files are available.  That is just my little thing, I guess.  I still would not hesitate to recommend the company to anyone.

Hope this helps.

When did this happen to you? And what are the initials of your TL? Mine is great as well and wonder
:o
Agree with this. Some lucky ones have great accts. Mine were awful, so I left. nm

Yes it is! I got mine today -- think it is great. I'm happy to be part of such an amazing compa

I feel like I have FINALLY found my home.  :-)

Plus, they are always having technical
issues!! My PC goes down at least once a week and their word expansion program is the worst!!
I have never had a technical problem
with either the hardware or software thus far. I was out of work once for a few hours on my primary account, but was trained on one very similar to it until the primary was ready again. They have also apparently added two new accounts today. I am part-time (not management). However, I do acknowledge that not every place works for everyone, and no place is perfect. I had a one-month disaster at TRS last year after so many raved about them, 2004 AAMT employer of the year, etc. I'm happy with Amphion so far, but I fully support anyone's decision to leave a situation which isn't working for them.
Age has nothing to do with technical ability.
or lack of technical ability.
Why isn't there a Technical Forum here? Could use one - nm

Technical Question
Does anyone know if it is possible to run the Bayscribe platform for MDI-MD on the same computer as a platform used for a Keystrokes account (do not know the platform name yet)? Was thinking about trying them both but didn't know if this was possible. Also, if the tech from one company installs the platform and sees a platform for another company on the same computer, is that ever a problem? Any info appreciated.
Technical question

This job was posted in the Job Seeker's Board...I can't seem to be able to reply to message and no contact information was provided.  Anybody have suggestions. I apologize if this was not the place to post this question.  See below:

We are looking for someone who is in the Charlotte, Concord, Lake Norman general vicinity (or relatively close) for a remote Transcriptionist position (after a reasonable training period). Dictaphone platform, great benefits, good line rates, hospital employee status, extremely generous PTO, very few ESL's, and wonderful work environment. Prefer candidates within commuting distance for training, etc. E-mail for details and information on applying. We need to fill this position as soon as possible.

I believe the tax rate is the same for everyone in a certain class since you want to get technical a
You pay for your taxes at 100% if you are an IC but I dont think she was asking about taxes.

If you are single and have kids, then you usually pay no taxes or very little anyway unless you make over 30,000 a year.
Anybody else at Webmedx going nuts from technical hassles?

I know better than to post this on their internal message board, as anything that is not 100% happy gets deleted.

This is the 2nd week in a row of technical issues on the client's end vs issues on our end, with the MTs caught in the middle, having to twiddle their thumbs during their scheduled shift, then give up their scheduled days off and work like mad playing catchup.  I guess I just want to vent and commiserate.  Anybody else in my boat?

Technical issues with the platform were horrible
It was slow a few times, never completely out, but I could never make any lines because of the technical issues with the platform.
This belongs on Technical board; thread locked.
Goldbird
Transolutions pays for technical and no-work downtimes.

lots of good technical things, but they outsource overseas
and a lot of their managers are from the old Edix, which is not a good thing, if you want to be treated with respect.

if you do not mind how you are treated, you can do okay. hard getting lines consistently.

my opinion. maybe things have changed, but I have read a lot of negative on here lately.
Dictaphone EX Text users. I have a question I need help with on Technical Board.. Thanks

no way you are not in QA dept yourself

Any big changes at OSI QA Dept?

I took prolonged maternity leave and would go back to OSi but only if they have a different QA Dept. since summer of 2005.  I never recommend OSI to anyone and I would never return unless that has changed.

Where is the HR dept?
nm
Sounds like you are from the QA Dept--
in order for you to make ASSumptions of what my working experience at OSi was like. This is EXACTLY the kind of attitude most of the people I have dealt with at OSI have. You have just demonstrated my point, thank you.
Okay then BS, get it together. Your dept has been hit the hardest with
You might want to get busy.
FLO'S QA DEPT STILL IN TROUBLE
So many QA people are getting fired, and she is still hiring replacements for them long before they have a clue that they are about to get the ax. She is not keeping anyone who knows more than she does.

Speaking of which, did you see the email about the account manager position? Only 2 years experience as an MT is required. Two years experience. Unbelievable! Cheap-cheap-cheap.

That is what is wrong with OSi. Nobody is qualified to do their uppity jobs, including the QA Director, except the MTs, who continue to lose work to India via outsourcing!!!!
If DOL is all your HR dept will take, then anyone stating here they could
Perhaps you should just give it up if you are not willing to call and/or see an attorney for yourself. lol

What companies use ADP for their HR dept? nm.
.
Why not call and ask the HR Dept???
x
Have you tried their payroll dept???
x
I bet you 1 million $$ you won't find one on mine. Mine is
2 years old and it does not have a 9-pin serial port, nor does it have a game port.   I have used both ports on other computers so I know what both ports look like.  I also have a company provided computer and it does have the ports on it.
I went into a radiology dept. for a few years.
It was good for my self-esteem for one thing, got me up out of bed with the rest of the world, dressed nicely and out of the house with the morning traffic. Mingling with the masses was great also. Was surprised on how much info we can pick up just by chatting with whoever is beside us whereever we are. The office politics is what took the joy out of it for me. Favoritism, unfair distribution of work, etc plus the gossip behind each others back. I tried to keep to myself but some women simply insist on infiltrating your boundaries and if you refuse, are considered not a team member (being a team member is big in the work place these days; in my dept., it was more important that quality/quantity of work, reliability, ethics. I watched one woman get creamed during evaluations because she was a Debbie Downer, a personality trait that she could do nothing about.
Yes, the main transcription dept at DBO. sm
Run, MT, Run! Anyone considering working there should SERIOUSLY reconsider, especially as long as LC is still the dept supervisor. That's the whole problem right there and always has been - HER.
Don't know for sure but it is HUGE - so they must have an oncology dept.
nm
Tell her to file a complaint with Dept SM
of Labor and let them tell the Dept. of Labor that.
Every state's Dept. of Labor has...sm

rules and regulations re. unfair labor practices.  I don't just mean the BS with the IC and set schedule baloney.  What about:

1.  Requiring an employee to work a set schedule of hours, but not being paid for your time, just the actual lines produced during those hours.

2.  Being told during your set, scheduled shift/hours (which you're not being paid for, remember?) that, sorry, no work or work is slow, but you can't take the day off, because, what if everybody decided to take the day off.  Ergo, must sit glued to seat until work comes in.  Needless to say, line quota not able to be met in the specific schedule you're bound to but not paid for.

3.  Told at end of week you must make up line quota or, (take your choice):

a) Lose bennies for that month.

b) Expect a phone call (who is paying whose phone bill?  I know who's paying mine, and that's why the Almight invented voicemail).

c) You lose job w/o cause... it's in agreement, after all. Hire Indians or other US MTs who are desperate and who'll work for $0.01 less than you are.

d)  We take your first-born (That's next.. with what they are allowed to get by with).
