Second-hand and generic items
I am shopping for second-hand items at resale shops and buying only sale and generic items at the grocery store. I don't drive as much or as far as I used to to shop. I am working more hours, although for less pay as an MT.

I think the the crooks (politicians) who put the American public in this position should be prosecuted.
Beaded jewelry... Most craft stores have supplies.

If you have a local craft store, that's a great place to start.  Also, if you Google beading jewelry, you can find video how-to's.

I thought it was fun at first, but I haven't picked it up again.  The beads are intricate and I found the major problem was size of the actual jewelry.

It would make great gifts though.

In my area it's all the 7-11 stores, motels, & some gas stations.
They also are buying up a lot of the apartment buildings around here, too.

Check your area for reclaimed grocery stores.
That's where you can get perfectly good groceries that regular stores have returned for various reasons. Expiration date may be soon, or packaging is out of date because a promotion is over, or maybe the product was discontinued. I saw a segment on the news, and people save around 40% to 50% on their food bills.

I live for state fairs!

I'll drive up to 2 hours away...I especially love the really small country fairs.  The more animals and ag displays, the bigger my smile.  I always don my overalls and boots too--gotta maximize the overall hayseed effect doncha know, plus you never know when you're gonna step in poo so might as well dress appropriately!   ;-)

We were always taught abstinence when I was in school.  It was practically shoved down our throats, and I would estimate that only about 10% of the student population actually abstained.  That is great for them, and they should be proud, but you can't leave the other 90% in the dark about safe sex, because they will be having it, and isn't better if they know all about the possible consequences of their actions and how to be as safe as possible?  That's just my view of it.  Safety first!

Craft ideas
Do you or someone you know teach them to crochet or knit?  This would keep them busy for hours - as would cross-stitch or plastic craft stitch if cross-stitch is too difficult.  These are projects that can take several days to complete - and are not too expensive.  Especially with the plastic-canvas projects - there's something for everyone - from playing card holders to purses to ornaments.  I would also hit some garage sales for these items if those are popular in your area.  You might also have them do some photo shirts or projects, especially if you have a digital camera.  They could go out into the yard and find things to photograph - up close - like grass, flowers, insects or even concrete and then turn these photos into paper, cards, etc.  I always found really good books at the library, too, as well as ideas online for crafts for kids.  I would have them do some red-white-blue decorations with 4th of july coming up - or the same since bastille day is coming up  on july 14th
Craft person sm
If someone is a craftperson and likes to sew, I have seen these doll clothes at craft shows for reasonable prices. I don't know if they have to be actual "label" clothes or just to fit the doll. As for the dolls themselves, I don't know. Perhaps your local town has a regional newspaper that advertises for less than the metropolitan editions. Good luck with it, they are expensive and I hope someone can help you.
That end of craft is just WEIRD sm
Most of us who make them and/or collect them aren't like that! They can be outstanding works of art, but that is what they are...ART. They are not surrogate children.

I will say that they are a blast to dress and to look at. IT is fun because they will stay little AND their Carter's won't wear out. They are also a lot of fun and a lot of work to produce from the setting of eyelashes, to the microrooting of the hair to the properly blushing and veining of the skin. They can also look absolutely hideous! I have seen some really awful ones too.

You are right. That sort of love and attention should be given to a real child or to a pet, not a doll. I do them because I love dolls with a passion...to twiggle with or display. I collect all sorts of dolls and I am starting to rehabilitate old dolls as part of my reborning skills. I do change their clothing because I make a lot of doll clothing. I play with them as far as changing clothes for a new display goes, but they are artwork!!!!

If you have a local craft store
like Hancock Fabrics or Joann Fabrics, they might be able to teach you the basics. You could also check with local quilting clubs - you might find a new hobby and meet new people this way.
If you have a Michaels Craft Store by you--sm
they should have Donna Dewberry books. She used to do TV shows on painting and she has easy to follow books. E-bay may have some DVDs or books laso. She also had some on-line classes also. Really liked watching her. Do a Google search also.

The Michaels in my area quit giving painting classes. Used to take Bob Ross and her classes and really miss them. Only offer Walton cake decorating which does not interest me at all.

thanks again for your ideas!

Need craft/project ideas for older children (7-10) (sm)

My children have about 4 hours each morning from the time that they get up until I finish my work. Today I am having them both make cardboard "electric guitars" with paint and glitter, etc.  When they were younger, I had endless craft ideas, but now those are not so "cool" anymore.  I would love any suggestions - thanks!

I'm not familiar with the items you used
but I do definitely try to find natural cures if possible. I flatly refuse to take prescription or OTC cough medications. I make my own, because it's so much better for me, and it doesn't contain all those chemicals that wreak havoc on my body. I have and continue to use herbs for various things. I think it's important to know about alternative cures. There may come a day (and it's here for a lot of people) when we won't be able to get prescription meds, or be able to afford them, and we'll need to know how to take care of ourselves for a lot of things.
Engraved items
Anything engraved is always a great gift, photo album, frame, etc.  I love getting beautiful keepsakes for my children.  Monogramed baby blanket?  You'll think of something great! It's the thought that counts anyway.  She will cherish whatever you send her.
Holiday Gift/Craft Ideas for Elem. Students

some of the items you mentioned for a child--sm
to me, are also too restrictive. Cribs are for *infants* who are not mobile, as well as bassinets. Play pens and baby gates are for toddlers and are mostly for the parents, who do not wish to be *inconvenienced* by supervising their off spring. Puppies are pretty much mobile from the day they are born. If you begin training them early, you would not need to be afraid to leave them unsupervised if you needed to be gone. They would already know. Besides, since when are *material things* like carpeting and furniture more important than a living breathing being?? If a person does not want to take the time to supervise either a puppy OR a child, then they should not have either one. This is just my opinion. I am entitled to feel the way I do, as are you. Crate your dog if you wish too. Barricade your children, as you do not wish to be *inconvenienced* by their presence. Watch your tv, drink your drinks, have your fun, and call yourselves good parents and tell yourselves, and others, that you do these things for the *safety* of the children and the pets, and for the protection of your prized material belongings. It all comes down to selfishness. JMO
What items do you mean? I am thinking of doing this myselt -sm
bankruptcy is not an option for me; but I am drowning. I know what every cc you put in your can never use again; i.e. close account, which is fine with me. What I will try to do is get a new cc with a very low limit and use that for things like gas only; try to rebuild my credit with that one, as I consolidate the other 3 I have maxed out as I had to live off them for about 10 months during a very rough patch, racked up quite a bill unfortunately and just cannot get out from under. ---Any one have a particular service they were happy with?

Conceal/Carry
Judging by all the negative posts to your post I would say that these people don't understand the process. In order to carry, at least in most places, you need a permit. You are investigated and have minimal training and testing before you are allowed to carry a concealed weapon. People with a past history of mental disorder or felonies are not supposed to be licensed for this. Crazies and felons already have guns and do use them. Just read the paper and you will see what I mean. The only people who were defenseless up until now in Utah in colleges were the people who were not crazy or felons and were not willing to break the rules and carry anyway. Does that sound fair to these people? Crazies and felons walking around armed (they don't really care if they are caught) and the rest of us waiting for something bad to happen?

I have guns and have had since I was 18 years old. I have, in the past, had PMS, but am not crazy, have never been arrested. All the years I had PMS I never once shot anyone in my "PMS state" and a couple of times I had a few too many glasses of wine - I shot no one at those times either. I get angry too from time to time and so far no one has been shot, so those arguments are ridiculous. The way I see it, the constitution provides a way for us to protect ourselves if we wish to and need to. I wish to. If you don't, that is okay too. People who are uncomfortable around firearms should not have one. Those who do feel comfortable should have the right if they are mentally stable, not a felon and have training and a license. Once my gun ownership probably saved me from something really ugly when a man tried to break down my front door at 2:00 a.m. I was on the phone with the police who were trying to get to my house, but there was a robbery in progress and I lived in a small town at the time, so I was "next" in line. At the point where I could no longer hear the police dispatcher (the guy was screaming, kicking the door and pounding on it, I made my choice. It was evident that I was the only one there who could protect me. I set the phone down and told him to move away from my door or I would shoot him through it. When he heard me put one into the chamber of the weapon (shotguns are really loud) he got scared and took off. Evidently, he had heard that sound before. I did not have to shoot him at all. When the police finally arrived 20 minutes later they found that he had been outside my home for quite some time before he decided to try to get in as evidenced by liquor bottles and cigarette butts on the ground where he had been hiding. After the fact, he was found to be extremely dangerous. I am thankful I had a shotgun and handguns that night. I am still thankful that I have them. I have killed no one, have scared one person who meant me harm. I don't think you necessarily have to be a law enforcement officer in order to make good decisions in a crisis situation. Others can do that too and have that right as long as they go about it in a lawful way. I am happy that Utah has the foresight to allow their students and teachers the right to protect themselves. I hope other states follow their example.
Why do they carry slacks in different
lengths only to carry short and average in the stores?  Nothing is more irritating than to go through the entire pile to find there are no slacks in tall.  I asked in the stores and their comment was they don't get many requests for tall.  Oh please.
Also pack anything you buy in your carry-on - sm
one of my group made the mistake of packing her stuff in her luggage, every single thing was stolen that she bought there. I took mine in my carry-on bag, as did everyone else but her. Just be smart and aware.

I bargain hunt for clearance items

and resell them on ebay for a small profit.  I also go to estate sales to find used hard to find stuff and resell on ebay.  I usually stock pile the stuff I know are good sellers and sell them around Thanksgiving time and before Christmas. I made just over $400 last Christmas. It was a very nice amount and made our Christmas very nice. I also have an online store on ioffer.com that I sell some of the stuff.

Mine don't carry them but can find at
a Michael's or Joanns crafts.  You can use a wax milk carton for your mold.  Make sure wick is correct size for your mold - i.e., different wicks for different circumferances.
men carry lots of these things

Women get Trichamonas, men don't *get* it - they are just carriers of it and hence both would have to get treated.  Men can be and are carriers.........

try googling HPV and you can find out TONS of info on the subject

You need to make threats and carry through
I am exactly the same way, get shocked if someone suddenly enters my room. Cannot sit with my back to the door. I told my husband he could not enter anymore without knocking because of how much it scared me and if he wanted to continue, I would take my cup of coffee and throw at him, it really scared me that much. He taps on the door outside before entering, so much nicer.
