Seeking advice on CLEP exams - sm
Has anyone successfully taken any of the exams, which ones, did you buy a study guide for any of them, and how hard were they?  I am looking to start a new degree program and am wondering if trying to take CLEP exams is worth it.  They sure are cheaper than taking the actual class, that's for sure!  Thanks for any answers you can provide.
the poster is seeking advice on lodging, on a budget

can buy 4 items for teenager for same price buy 8 items for younger.

Not answer you are seeking but
if you do not use as shower I would not put one up unless you need splash of color in that room, etc.  I would decorate with bright towels, candles, etc., and leave the curtain off for a more fresh, open and airy feeling.
or hot and they are seeking cool!

But why women seeking men?
Okay, what am I missing. Wouldn't it be men seeking men or men seeking women? I'm not saying you shouldn't be concered, I'm just confused. If a man wants to be sought by a woman, I think a man looking for a man would have no luck with him, right?

Having said that (I'm single), I used to browse the Yahoo men seeking women ads just to see what the competition was (never entered my profile, though, -- I'm a happy 'aloner'). It was funny because I found one of my daughter's teachers there!!

At any rate, I wish you luck and happiness.

Don't think this is consensus seeking.
When I was in this situation, I would clam up for months and even YEARS at a time and talk to no one. Other times, the dam would break and I would talk to anyone and everyone who woud listen (or who I could corner), even and often inappropriately. The depression that accompanies this he*ll on earth is not exactly conducive to rational thinking 100% of the time, although this particular poster seems to be doing much better with it than I did then. When you stay bottled up for months on end, talking it out is a first step (and one that you sometimes have to take more than once) to sorting it out in your own mind. Responses you get either help or they don't, but getting all kinds helps you gain insight into your own situation and what might be the best solution for it...the soilution that makes the best sense to her, not to any of us on this forum.
I'm soo glad you finally got what you had been seeking!
congratulations! Perserverance pays off sometimes! Good for you. They were probably hoping you would give up and write it off, but you won this one! yaaeee~sleep well tonight!
Seeking home remedy

I have been having horrible Charlie Horse's at night.  I have been reading online that there is really no relationship with low potassium, magnesium, or calcium like most people think.  The only suggestions I see are stretching or a hot bath.

Anyone have any suggestions of things to try?  TIA!

Site for selling Giftcards?
Does anyone know of a popular site shopping enthusiasts go to purchase giftcards?
I think he did it wrong; even if you are selling a house - sm
or property yourself; any downpayment money is to be put in escrow for the closing. If his buyer had backed out due to a problem with the house (like an undisclosed problem; or a found problem) then he would have had to come back up with their deposit money and refunded them; and if he had already spent it he would have been in a difficult position to come up with the funds. Escrow protects not only the buyer but the seller as well. As for the 10% I have never heard of such a high commission; we did 7 when we sold our house (the standard is 6%) only because my DH knew the realtor (old school friend) and to give him some incentive to sell our house quickly; unfortunately that did not work as it took us 9 months to sell our house (at a loss) which doubled in value about 6 months after we sold it, talk about the unpredictable real estate market.
Selling house, how much taxes will I owe?
Never lived at this property, got in my name about 6 years ago, never had it appraised, the person living there before also did not. My question is how much will I owe on taxes, say on a percentage basis, according to what it sells for? How do I go about figuring this out? Thanks.
I remember selling them for 35 cents.
Then the year they went up to 50 cents I had to explain to all my neighbors why the price went up.

One year my mom was in charge of ordering and receiving all the cookies for our troop. Our living room was floor to ceiling brown boxes of cookies. What a lot of work to divide all those into each girl's order. My mom said "never again". Ah, memories!
I'm not familiar with the items you used
but I do definitely try to find natural cures if possible. I flatly refuse to take prescription or OTC cough medications. I make my own, because it's so much better for me, and it doesn't contain all those chemicals that wreak havoc on my body. I have and continue to use herbs for various things. I think it's important to know about alternative cures. There may come a day (and it's here for a lot of people) when we won't be able to get prescription meds, or be able to afford them, and we'll need to know how to take care of ourselves for a lot of things.
Engraved items
Anything engraved is always a great gift, photo album, frame, etc.  I love getting beautiful keepsakes for my children.  Monogramed baby blanket?  You'll think of something great! It's the thought that counts anyway.  She will cherish whatever you send her.
that's true but back then we had no prez selling us....

People there are already being tricked into selling their organs (sm)
Did you see that special recently? They are promised a lot of money - which they really need - especially single women there - and they end up getting measly amounts for selling a kidney...it's very sad that people are that desperate for money. We are very fortunate here and need to remember that.
Central WA - 4.09 a gallon. I'm selling my SUV! Anyone interested?

Selling things other than MT equipment, books etc

Does anyone ever post things to sell/trade other than MT items on this site (in the classified)?  I am a wah MT and I am looking at reaching out to some wah MT's who scrapbook as a hobby and would be interested in joining a hostess club I am setting up.  I already have some people signed up and just looking for a few more.  I am on the MB for the cricut website, but trying to reach out to other MT's who like this as well.

Thanks for your help.

A true surrogate is not selling a baby - sm
the woman would be carrying someone else's biological child, most likely because they are not able to physically carry a child for whatever reason. In that case I would have no problem with it. Obviously women who also supply the egg as well as the womb, that is a totally different scenario. I had a friend that considered it, and I believe had I known about selling of eggs I would have done that before I was too old....by the time I heard of that I was 32 and too old and married at that point. But I think I would have seriously considered it in my 20s had I known about it, my life would have turned out a lot differently then I believe--but then I would not have the two great kids I have now which I would not have missed for anything. Everything happens for a reason.
Mega-mother selling her story
Well, today we find out the mega mother of all mothers wants to sell her story for 2 million. Talk shows, baby expert and all offers are being looked at to "tell her story" according to her spokesperson. I am hearing from this person she is very balanced, very happy about all 14. If she tells her story, maybe that will open up new pathways for others to strive for more than 8 at a time. Just think about the possibilities!
Need advice on a good, adjustable chair for typing. Any advice? nm

some of the items you mentioned for a child--sm
to me, are also too restrictive. Cribs are for *infants* who are not mobile, as well as bassinets. Play pens and baby gates are for toddlers and are mostly for the parents, who do not wish to be *inconvenienced* by supervising their off spring. Puppies are pretty much mobile from the day they are born. If you begin training them early, you would not need to be afraid to leave them unsupervised if you needed to be gone. They would already know. Besides, since when are *material things* like carpeting and furniture more important than a living breathing being?? If a person does not want to take the time to supervise either a puppy OR a child, then they should not have either one. This is just my opinion. I am entitled to feel the way I do, as are you. Crate your dog if you wish too. Barricade your children, as you do not wish to be *inconvenienced* by their presence. Watch your tv, drink your drinks, have your fun, and call yourselves good parents and tell yourselves, and others, that you do these things for the *safety* of the children and the pets, and for the protection of your prized material belongings. It all comes down to selfishness. JMO
What items do you mean? I am thinking of doing this myselt -sm
bankruptcy is not an option for me; but I am drowning. I know what every cc you put in your can never use again; i.e. close account, which is fine with me. What I will try to do is get a new cc with a very low limit and use that for things like gas only; try to rebuild my credit with that one, as I consolidate the other 3 I have maxed out as I had to live off them for about 10 months during a very rough patch, racked up quite a bill unfortunately and just cannot get out from under. ---Any one have a particular service they were happy with?
Depends on if parts can be used with other items I have.
s
Yes, I buy some items from them. Some stuff is very good
ice cream is great, too!
commercials for personal items.

Second-hand and generic items
I am shopping for second-hand items at resale shops and buying only sale and generic items at the grocery store. I don't drive as much or as far as I used to to shop. I am working more hours, although for less pay as an MT.

I think the the crooks (politicians) who put the American public in this position should be prosecuted.
Since you're selling the house, I would not go with claw foot
I think the claw foot style appeals only to a certain market, and you want to appeal to as wide a group of potential house buyers as possible. If the claw foot tub is really what you want to live with, then save that style for the house you build for yourselves.

I grew up in an old home with two claw foot tubs. They were huge and comfy, but you have to clean behind them, under then and all around them. Since I was the youngest and smallest, that was my assigned job. Ugh.

We've lived in our current home for 23 years and expect to live here until we die. The house was built in 1915, and we have an enormous tub that was installed in 1922. I love it because it's sleek and built into an alcove. At one point my husband was really bent on ripping it out and putting a claw foot tub in there, saying it would look more authentic. Well, this baby IS authentic. It reminds me of a moving train. It's porcelain over cast iron, and it's not going anywhere. We've had it refinished, and it's beautiful and so lovely to soak in.

My point is, you can look for something along the lines of art deco/noveau which has the classic, stylized, and even sort of old-fashioned look, but still appeals to modern taste as well. (And no cleaning underneath!)
I'm sure a lot of people at the hospital are selling these types of stories
to the tabloid shows and the tabloids. Unfortunately, stories like this sell. Yes, whoever the source is should be fired.
Talk about dating yourself? I remember selling them for 0.75 cents! (nm)

Not originally from the south, so imagine my surprise when I saw them selling - sm
Cracklin at a roadside stand!  It was cooking in a huge pot of grease.  I thought I might faint from the smell - beyond description.  Then I noticed it being sold packaged in grocery stores with all kinds of flavorings added.  I cannot recall seeing cracklin sold in the other parts of the country I have lived, but maybe I just never noticed.  All I know is I cannot even stand to look at the bags while waiting to check out at the register.  YUCK!!
Children are blessings! They are not luxury items!!!

I bargain hunt for clearance items

and resell them on ebay for a small profit.  I also go to estate sales to find used hard to find stuff and resell on ebay.  I usually stock pile the stuff I know are good sellers and sell them around Thanksgiving time and before Christmas. I made just over $400 last Christmas. It was a very nice amount and made our Christmas very nice. I also have an online store on ioffer.com that I sell some of the stuff.

Me, too. I never agree with popular opinion. Same with best-selling books and/or TV shows. nm
s
stay away from C items, coffee, cola, and chocolate...

she could have put big ticket items on there in hopes some would pool their resources together. sm
that's how my family does it. we will have several go in together to get an important big item. also, i think when doing registeries a lot of people home and kinda like a shopping spree. they know they will or will not get items, but what's the hurt to put the items on there just in case.
Actually the people with money buy all the nonsense items for their kids
and the others without money are all trying to keep up with the Joneses and of course getting in debt because of it because heaven-forbid their kid doesn't have what everyone else has. How could they ever be seen in public without the gel french manicure nails, cell phone, ipod, blackberry, brand name jeans, etc., etc., etc. What a world we live in where the children now rule! lol Pathetic. The other day I saw a woman and her maybe 15 year old, all highlighted hair and all, at the nail place, and unfortunatley I got stuck in the seat between the two of them. Well the kids nails alone cost her 65.00. lol! But the best was the kid must have not liked something and was mouthing something to her mom, and then the mom was like whispering, what, honey, what is it, what is wrong, do you not like something, honey, do you want a design, tell me, what is wrong? what is it? And I'm in between them, right? I wanted to say please excuse me while I get up to throw up. LOL. It is just amazing to me.
bought/sold couple hundred items
i've had a good experience both ways. it is time consuming, communicating with customer/feedback/packaging items/mailing, etc. Like you, i thought of doing same. but you really have to have something special/in demand to market, or maybe do the drop-ship method where you don't even keep the inventory yourself to make a real business venture. I don't think it's any more of a golden goose than other business ventures however.
Is it safe to drink unopened canned items
That have been refrigerated for a couple weeks. Found a can of pineapple juice my husband put in the refrigerator a couple weeks ago, but didn't open. I know it's not safe to put open cans in the refrigerator, not sure about something that has not been opened yet.
Thinking more of actual themed items, not sparkly in particular. Santa,
b
LOST, also Project Runway, Grey's Anatomy, various HGTV home buying/selling shows

Any craft fairs in your area? Or stores that carry hand-crafted items regularly? Look online

For some items you could buy men's, they tend to be longer with longer sleeves. NM

Re: Advice

I am a new mom to a beautiful baby girl. I didn't think I would mind going to work part-time. Well, I've been crying my self to sleep every night. I have my B.A. in Business Administration and have been in the banking industry for 6 years. I have been searching all over for a legitimate work at home opportunity. It seems like medical transcription is a great opportunity. I'd like advice from people who do this from home. I'd like to know where you got the training and what your first job was (since that seems to be a big issue). Also, will my B.A. help at all? I know employers like people with MT experience but I accquired other skills such as meticulous attention to detail that I know is needed. Any and all information is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

advice
I do have to say that unless you already have an "in" it is difficult to find a job. Most places won't hire you if you don't have at least two years experience but you can't get experience unless someone hires you. You don't necessarily have to get certified right away just take an accredited program that is specifically for medical transcription. Once your done with school just keep trying, don't give up and try to take your time and ace the preemployment tests. If you do really well some places will give you an offer even if you don't have experience. Take the first job you can get because even if it doesn't pay well you are still gaining experience and it will make it easier for you to get a new job.
Cat advice please....

I have a kitten who is appx. 7 months old. He refuses to eat any kind of cat food, canned, dry, dry mixed with canned, dry mixed with water, cat treats, etc. I have tried baby food, dog food, etc. He will only eat KMR weaning powder, which I mix with water. Have tried to mix food into it but he will not eat it. He tries to cover everything up like it should be in the cat box! No vet seems to concerned about this...he likes to eat chicken, people food chicken that is, and turkey. I am stumped.

This cat MUST learn to eat before May because I am going on vacation for 3-1/2 weeks...any suggestions for this problem?

Thanks for the advice....sm
I will give each a try! I hate to leave him while on vacation, but have no other choice. And the only reason it is for so long is because I don't fly and my DH and I are driving cross country to see family...I'm sure he will be fine, but no kids at home anymore so they are my babies! It's nice to have people to bounce ideas off of!
I thank you all for your advice - I am
an animal lover, have 2 cats, 2 dogs. Love feeding the birds outside. I can't help feeling betrayed by these outside creatures that probably fill their bellies at my bird feeders and have now started war on my house. I guess I will start off with putting some Dcon in the attic - as much as I hate to kill them, I don't want my house chewed apart either. I just hope they don't die and rot someplace where I can smell them.

My cats were going crazy last night and spent much of the night gazing up at the ceiling in my bedroom with their mouths watering. I hope at least tonight the invader picks another part of the house to snack and dig so I can get some sleep.

Thanks again for the advice.

And Hayseed - I agree that Indian is a little un-PC, so are some of the ones with the smiley faces shooting at each other, but they're pretty funny (I guess unless you're Indian)!
Re: Looking for advice

Thanks, that was very helpful! I'm sorry about the info overload, I guess I just wasn't sure exactly where to begin asking. I think I'll just get the basic foot pedal, upgraded computer, headphones etc. and get some finanicing for the "extras" that may come up and take the plunge.

My advice to you is
Get yourself the book - think it is called Co-Dependent No More and get yourself to a support group ASAP - not sure what they are called - but if someone here does not tell you then call AA yourself and find out the name of the support group for spouses, family, etc.  AND if you don't find a supportive support group - hunt around until you do - DO NOT GIVE UP.   Help yourself to understand this disease/disorder and get help for yourself and then you can help him through this process also.  Thank goodness you do not have children and good for you for asking for help.  E-mail me if you want - lots of alcoholics in my family and would be glad to help you!!  Take care.  Will be praying for  you.
