Aw, I'm so sorry that

this feeling of guilt is holding you back from processing your sorrow. It is very, very common in many different circumstances when we lose a pet. We tend to play the events over in our mind over and over, wishing to figure out what we did wrong, but the truth is we did the best we could. We can't see even into the next 5 minutes, and when a beloved pet is sick, we get very confused because we lack experience. All we know is that we want to be able to fix the problem.

In reality, your cat may have been most comfortable lying secure just as you describe, rather than on a moving body. Knowing cats, she was happiest being at home with you at this time. It sounds like you took wonderful care of her, and I hope you can find peace. It helped me process my feelings to use my AOL profile to put together a picture history of my beloved dogs' time with me. You might do it on-line or as an actual scrapbook or as pictures you can hang on the wall. You might write down funny stories to add to the pictures. You know she will ALWAYS be a part of that time of your life, and she will help you mark time as you think back on events.

I'm very sorry for the loss of your wonderful cat at the amazing age of 18 years. You must have done everything right.
