Carpal tunnel

Anyone have any suggestions on how to alleviate carpal tunnel pain?  I think it is carpal tunnel.  When I woke up this morning my right hand felt like it was swollen 3 times the normal size.  I can work some, but the longer I work the more painful it gets.  Some days  at the end of my shift it hurts almost all the way to my shoulder.  Thanks.

anyone think they have carpal tunnel, but.....

too scared to get it checked out?  my left arm aches every day and goes into the palm of my hand and thumb.  i'm thinking it could be carpal, i've been typing for many years, and i have a bad habit, i twist my hair with that hand.  i'm too chicken to go to the doc and get it checked out, because if it is and surgery is recommended, i really don't want surgery.  what have you all done?

TIA

?carpal tunnel
I get right thumb pain (along with back and neck, of course). Instead of taking oral medication which may affect my thinking, my rheum gave me a trial of lidocaine patch. I cut this up, using a little strip around the thumb and wrist area, another strip across my shoulder blade area, along with a microwave heated hot pack (although ice is supposed to be better). It helps get me through for a few hours and I am not "foggy" at all. Every little bit helps! I also do not want surgery. A little knowledge for me is dangerous, wish I didn't know what I know - scared to death of surgery of any kind. I guess we are all in the same lifeboat.
Carpal tunnel
I have typed for years and have had carpal tunnel syndrome which did not hurt a lot.  Therefore I put off surgery until I now have permanent damage.  Do not wait too long to have surgery if you need it.

I had tingling in my fingers and dropped things also and docs thought I had carpal tunnel, had EMG/nerve conduction studies of my hands, negative.  Then had an MRI of my neck and had a herniated disc with nerve entrapment, had physical therapy, worked for short period of time.  Finally had surgery 15 years ago, but nerve had been trapped there so long, have permanent nerve damage.  I kept asking my doctors to get an MRI of my neck, of course the EMG/nerve conduction studies were positive in my neck, so that is when they ordered an MRI.  If I over work I now get pain and numbness and tingling in my left hand.  I have a friend who has had carpal tunnel surgery and it worked for her.  I would suggest you go to your doctor and make sure that it is not your neck.  Good luck.

Have any of you had carpal tunnel surgery and then returned to transcription as your profession? I think I'm going to need the surgery done, but I love my job.
Don't know about carpal tunnel
but they can help a pinched nerve. I've also heard that they can help asthma.
Haven't had carpal tunnel but...
I felt that I was getting the beginning symptoms of it. I had some pain in my left wrist and tingling in my fingers. My husband quickly bought me a new desk with a lowered keyboard tray so that my arms were at the correct angle, and now my symptoms are gone. Have you tried making any such adjustments?
Carpal tunnel surgery
Who has had it?  Did it work?   I'm dropping things all over the place, never used to be clumsy.  Also having tingling in my fingers and tops of my hands - goes away but is intermittent.  I do the hand and finger stretches, but the dropping things is getting very bad.

Would love to hear from anyone who has had similar symptoms.  Could be my self diagnosis is wrong.   TIA

just a thought, have you tried vitamin B-6 and stretching exercises?   some have good results from this,  look online, try Dr. Andrew Weil's site for more information,  Dr.Weil is sort of new agey but he has some good basic information on his site, there are probably others who have just as good.
carpal tunnel maybe......my aunt described

TLR-maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel

and I'm sorry your mom is not well.  I will keep both of you in my prayers.

I hope tomorrow is a better one for all of us.

I don't really think there is for cubital tunnel...
(pinky and ring fingers), which is what my main problem is now too, although it started out carpal tunnel. It can be helpful to keep the affected arm/s *straight* while sleeping, though, even wrapping with a towel and pinning it (I used to use an old knee brace I found for cheap in a sporting goods store on my arm so I wouldn't bend my elbow while sleeping).

Also, be careful not to rest your elbows on chair arms, desk, etc., which I think was how I developed it, from resting my left elbow on my desk while I proofed my reports after transcribing. I use ErgoRest arm supports now, and they've been a big help (for my mouse arm too). I don't use them for actually typing anymore, though I did for a while, but just while proofing or when using the mouse on the other side.

Thanks for promising the light at the end of the tunnel.
You know, I started hot flashes in my 30s and thought I was going through the change. Not kidding I am now over 45 by 1 year and still going through this! Ugggg. Maybe Karma will pay me back for all these years. All this girl wants to do is have fun... and looking forward to it, someday!
