Conscious sedation?

I'm just curious if anyone has had this happen before.  This has been bothering me.  I had a colonoscopy done about 2 weeks ago.  They used a conscious sedation for the procedure.  I do not remember anything from the procedure, but the next day I was brushing my hair and my temple was very tender.  I pulled my hair back and noticed an abrasion.  Then, when I was getting into the shower, I noticed a large abrasion across my chest area, with a petechial look to it.  When my husband was trying to wake me up after the procedure, one of the male nurses told him "don't be afraid to jerk her around a bit, she's a real fireball."  I didn't think anything of that statement until I got home and saw the marks on me.

Now I am extremely embarrassed at the thought that I was probably very combative.  I'm not entirely sure what happens under conscious sedation.  I feel like I was sleeping, but I'm guessing that I wasn't.  So, does anybody know what the normal level of consciousness is with a conscious sedation?  I don't think I will ever agree to that type of sedation again!  The last thing I remember was asking why I was being given sedation, because a friend told me that she didn't receive any sedation for her colonoscopy. Of course, they didn't get very far with hers, as she could not tolerate the procedure.

Some hospitals give you the option of sedation or not. sm
The hospital I work for gives you the option of sedation or no sedation. They have to schedule them differently, but how I am not sure.

I am not really afraid of small dark places, but if I had my choice, I think I would opt for sedation any day of the week for an MRI.

Now if only they could get rid of that "ball bearings in a coffee can" sound.
