Okay, I've been feeling really weird the past couple of days (yes, that's an official medical term; it's right up there with icky, which I will be using later).  The first time, it felt like my blood sugar was too low, but that didn't make sense since I had just eaten a sausage 'n' mushroom omelet.  Went to lay down, and kept waking up feeling like I was going to pass out.  Make any sense?  Had that horrible feeling off and on all day yesterday, then again today.  Finally got smart enought to get the old glucometer out and it read 112.  Had a bologna, cheese and ketchup sandwich a little later, then tried having nothing for 2 hours.  About 1 3/4 hours later, I started feeling really icky again.  I tested and it was 106.  Had some orange juice and I felt a little better.  Had supper and felt a lot better.  Two hours with nothing but water, and the retest put me at 80.

I've spent half the night on Google, then again, I got smart enough to throw the question out here... WHAT'S GOING ON?   Maybe it's not even my sugar... maybe I just had some bad eggs.  Or maybe it's high blood pressure and I'm just looking at the wrong thing.

Shaky, nauseas, spacy, tired, like I'm going to pass out, headache, and my face 'throbs' (I'm sure there's more), but the numbers don't make sense.

I know, go to the doctor, right?  I'll be calling to schedule a complete physical sometime this next week.  In the meantime, just wondered what y'all thought?

Gallbladder

Well, I now have confirmation of what I suspected since November. I have gallstones.

I had a sonogram yesterday and it confirmed it.

I have an appointment with a surgeon. I am in no hurry to have another surgery, since tomorrow will be 3 weeks since my BR surgey - however, I have been trying to control the symptoms with diet since my self-diagnosis -- with limited success. The nausea seems to be getting harder and harder to prevent. When I have an attack of the "pain" --- OMG - I would give birth to 20 more kids to keep that from happening again. It is the most intense pain I have ever had.

I know this is very common surgery --- share your stories to help me decide how long I should wait.

gallbladder
easiest thing. in and out on the same day, felt really good the next day. i didn't really want it either but i couldn't take the attacks anymore.
gallbladder
I suffered nearly 10 years with a bad gallbladder and I know the pain you feel.  I finally had a lap chole done last January and it was the best gift I could ever give myself.  Quick recovery too. Get ur done!!
Gallbladder
I have gallstones.  I found out around 11 years ago.  I have just lived with it.  Sometimes I have problems like a large fullness in the right upper quadrant.  I can't eat popcorn or nuts without having problems.  I know that eventually I will have to have my gallbladder out, but for now, I will live with it.  I also have had kidney stones and had to have surgery to have them removed.  Now a kidney stone attack is something I cannot ignore.
could be gallbladder symptoms too...nm

Need help with gallbladder pain, any advice?
I have been having a gallbladder attack since late last night.  I took some ibuprofen last night, but that only succeeded in hurting my stomach and didn't even touch my gallbladder pain at all.  I need to have my gallbladder out, but can't even afford it right now.  I can't even afford my copay at the doctor's office until next payday.  I put a heating pad on my side today, but now I'm trying to work and I am just miserable.  I can't function if I take anything stronger than ibuprofen.
I had a 30-hour gallbladder attack, and
it was rough. I'd just been diagnosed with stones and then had the attack. I had to wait a few days before my scheduled surgery.

My surgeon told me his story. His abdominal pain started and 3 hours later, he was checked and his GB was already gangrenous. What if yours is?
homeopathic gallbladder cures

There are some interesting cures for gallstones on the internet.  One involves epsolm salts, apple juice and mineral oil.  Google on home cures for gallstones.  I dont remember the exact instructions but it involves lying on your left side and drinking lots of apple juice (which I like anyway).

Of course, my first recommendation would be the ER.  However, I do like to at least be aware of various home cures.

I make around $50,000 but I work 7 days a week and long days, although I'm not a fast typer eithe
I think even if your fast, you'd still have to work more than 40 hours a week to make that but I could be wrong.
I remember those days too, but these days they don't want make any child felt left out. They wan
to make each of them feel special and that they have accomplished something.  My 8-year-old brings a certificate of some kind during the day, accelerated reader award, trustworthy award, jr. achievement award, etc.  I guess in a way, no one kid is pointed out as the "teacher's pet" or have the other kids being jealous of him/her for getting this or that award.
Anyone else with gallbladder problems and decided not to have surgery
and symptoms you had and what did you do instead?
Diabetes
I have diabetes that was discovered when I had a kidney stone back in October. I was put on a new medicine which did not work at all - then on a 1000 calorie a day diabetic diet and told that I needed to lose 35 pounds which would put me at 100 pounds (i think that is ridiculously thin) - I have not experienced any numbness to the point - but my diabetes is not well controlled on diet, either. Fasting usually between 160-190 - after meals up to 220. Guess i really need to get back to the doctor to see what I need to do next. I have lost some of the weight, but not the whole 35 pounds - and I do not intend to lose that much - I don't want to look anorexic. I hope he sees the doctor soon to discuss this.
Would said diabetes but
that would not necessarily mean cold water, just excessive thirst period. Other than that, no diagnosis here.
Does my mother have diabetes?

I went to mom's house yesterday.  She had some overnight guests staying with her who were diabetic and had a meter.  They took mom's BS earlier yesterday morning and it was nearly 300 she said.  She could not tell me an exact number.  This morning it was down to 158.  She said that it has fluctated from 200 to nearly 300 to 150s.  This is concerning for me.  I asked her if she was feeling anything.  She says that she has early morning headaches and a feeling like she was going to pass out.   She said she was symptom free right now though.  She said she had been drinking whole milk, eating lots of sweets and that is why it is so high.  She said that as if it could happen to anyone but I don't think that is normal, it doesn't happen to me.  She says when you get older, your body changes.   I asked her if she has said anything to her doctor.  She said that they do random blood tests for her medicine and it has always been borderline but they have never said or done anything or even mentioned it.

Am I jumping the gun on being concerned?  Mom is in the low-income range and I am wondering if this is why the docs aren't doing anything.   Mom is overweight and is 58 years old.

i was just diagnosed with diabetes

No insurance.  Went to the doc yesterday to go over lab work I had done in November.  My blood glucose was 127 (upper limit of normal being 126).  I am 45 yeard old and overweight, but I never had this happen before.  He then did a glucometer reading (after I had had three cups of coffee, each with two sugars, of which I was still sipping on as he took the reading).  He then ordered new lab work as a recheck, but stated he had to put NIDDM as a diagnosis on the requisition form.  I don't feel a diagnosis can be made that simply.  What's really upsetting is the fact that he informed me that now since I had been diagnosed with NIDDM that I would probably never be able to get health insurance with a pre-existing condition such as this.  I feel that through correct diet and exercise over the next few months I can easily lose ten or more pounds, and that this more than likely will change the status of my next lab values.  I feel so very sad about this.  What do I do??

Know some about diabetes, but need additional input, please
My husband has had diabetes for some time now- always prided himself on taking supplements, herbs, trying to eat right and leading as good a life as he could because of this. Today was told he should finally start on some medications and was given some insulin today and a shot tomorrow for sure but I think if they can get it some down (from the 300s today) he will probably just be on tablets. I do know about foot care being important, also about some foods (such as bananas and Irish potatoes to be avoided) but any other insight you might be able to give me. I really, really hate this for him - I know he is a very strong-minded person as well as his health issues have gone and I know this is probably a bother to him in the fact that he just could not control himself. Any input is appreciated.
Diabetes is what jumped to my mind as well - sm
I would definitely get a checkup and make sure it is not a symptom of something.
How log does your friend suffer from diabetes?
Diabetes is a devastating illness that destroys over time all organs in the body. Taking medicaments and later insulin injections can only slow down the destruction of the organs.
If I were you I would not blame the doctors.
Diabetes, probably no longer than 5 years
I know very well what hypertension and diabetes both can do, had a husband who was dialysis just because of uncontrolled hypertension and eventually dying. She was not strong enough to question (oh, well, she could not have even known maybe what they were saying) the ESLs and yes, there are older folks out there who cannot understand the first thing that comes out of their mouths. Do you not know older people who take everything a physician says as gospel and would not dare "rock the boat" so to say? She has responsibility here, mostly hers, but not being able to understand. They might have told her she was on the verge of kidney failure and she could not comprehend what they were saying and just stuck it out with the same people.
Anyone who knows difference between type 1 and 2 diabetes?
My husband was diagnosed with diabetes about 4 years ago, never before,  in his 50s. I thought being as not diagnosed in childhood this was type 2. Talking with my dermatologist this morning and saying diabetes of his not due to obesity and runs in his family, she told me then he has type 1. This is a little worrisome for me as I have heard type 1 is worse than 2. Anyone have any information on this?
Time for another diabetes education class.
That's why most doctors send their diabetics to classes - because the rules have changed from their pre-diabetic days.

My body predisposed to diabetes but dont use that

My husband diagnosed 1 time with diabetes, get this
he ran 1 high blood sugar and was diagnosed. He did have elevated blood pressure but for years and years controlled his blood sugar and the elevation was always and I mean always low- the insurance company would NOT cover him because of that 1 only diagnosis. I tried talking to them- they told me 2 counts against him- unable to get life insurance on him. This diagnosis was made on a job entry and for 7 years he kept his blood sugar average or below, made no difference. I have been there.
Ugh, which is why I don't eat meat or
questionable meat-by-products.
but how does it change the meat?
By the way--cattle are slaughtered past the age of two. When old cull cows are made into hamburger, they add back fat from younger cattle because the fat on the older cows is yellow and people would not eat it. I also know that cattle eat things other than grass. We still graze cattle on grass land and manage our pastures well. (Western states also have public grazing land and some even graze the desert.)It is only cost effective to the cow-calf producers who do not feed grain. Slapping a grass-fed tag on beef and calling it a niche market makes it more expensive for the consumer and is controversial to me. Feed lots do not keep cattle off of grass land. We must keep in mind that this country must manage beef somehow because of how much we consume and export. Beef is a valuable commodity and a big business. If it could be handled in a way that was more cost effective, it would be.
Thank goodness I don't eat meat! ugh...

Not around here, and glad.....I don't *do* meat scraps! lol

What's the best cut of meat for homemade philly...
steak subs?  Our family loves them and we usually buy the frozen philly cheese steak meat...but I just can't stomach the smell of it even cooking anymore because it is sooooo greasy.  I want to try to make some homemade from a fresh cut of meat.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!!
Canned meat - the spinach of Dog

I caught the blues when trying to eat the red meat
because husband is a health food junkie and I think sometimes he expects the same of me. I love steak but hardly eat-are shrimp bad for someone who has high cholesterol? He eats fish- I don’t care for- fish is fish is fish to me- all taste alike except for the shrimp with the sauce and horse radish in it- yummy! My physician when I mentioned about my cholesterol told me to tell hubs to leave alone- mine was excellent and I could eat most anything. So there, man of the house!!
Too afraid of meat in restaurants now sm
Their meat may be old (sorry). If we do go, will only go to very busy place as even some bought at market are questionable. We have gift certificates which we appreciate as they are from busy places. Sometimes we have a "UFO" party. Unidentified freezer objects - if they're too old we throw them out. Buying light these days.Takes common sense, hopefully things will turn around in ཅ but for now I am being extremely careful and not loading up on meat either unless we intend to eat it soon. Perhaps I'm too cautious but things are rough right now for everyone, even the markets, restaurants, etc. I sure hope the turkeys are okay, even in good times we've gotten "bad ones" - have to open them up and be sure. Martha likes to brine hers in salt water - not a bad idea these days to check them out before it's too late the day of or the day before. Fresh is best - wish we had our own farm as some do.
How easy would it be for you to give up meat?

All forms of meat - beef, pork, chicken, venison....and anything else I'm missing.

It wouldn't be too hard for me.

me hungry... me eat meat....arghhh
One time I ate a beef rib and got an artery. That made me so sick. Yet, I did not stop eating meat. I have seen a deer gutted in my front yard and it did make me sick, but I ate him. I saw how they treat chickens and blah blah blah, but I still eat MEAT. I must be some kind of psycho! Nope, just human. We need protein. I just have to lay off the cow. Although I will say that I am picky and will not eat fat, arteries, skin, or anything else that just isnt pure meat.
Do you eat hot dogs? meat scraps, pig lips, etc.

Sort of - I generlly buy some hamberger meat, and whatever - sm
is on sale and bring it home for 2 or 3 days worth of meals. My DH does 95% of the cooking. We generally buy what is on sale, whole chickens, thighs/breasts, pork chops, have tacos, I do pot roasts now and then. My mom used to make out a weekly list every Wednesday or so, and do the weekly shopping Thursday after work. We would drop about $100, this was in the late 80s/through 90s. My DH is actually better at shopping than I am and comes home with a lot for $50. Scan the food ads and plan around them, best way (and cheapest) way to do it.
Again, the end times. I'm sorry, but what other explanation is there? Steroids in our meat? I don

looking for a spagetti sauce recipe without meat.

Does anyone have a tomato sauce recipe without meat?  The only reciipe I have calls for ground up beef.  I am serving chicken cutlets and spagetti on the side. My DD inlaws to be is coming to dinner so I want it to be perfect.

Sauce can be for crockpot or stove.

Thanks.  I always enjoy the recipes on this board.

Cracklins have a little more meat attached, only difference.

My SIL makes it this way and the meat basically falls off of the bone.
I know that once she gets the pork seasoned, she puts in a small roasting pan and then sets it in a "bano maria" at 250 degrees like for 10-12 hours depending on the size. I will see if I can get the recipe from her. As far as the seasoning, it all depends which way you want it, for Cuban style mojo seasoning, it can be bought already made in a bottle at the grocery's store in the international food section, probably Goya brand. Then, there is the other seasoning with the oregano, salt, vinegar, garlic, black pepper, and olive oil.
Where I'm from boiled jowl meat and hot water cornbread
could be combined to make scrapple, a Philadelphia treat.

Some folks just take for granted that they can walk into a market and shop for meat...We've done the same for similar reasons as you and nothing was wasted.   At least you're self sufficient!!!  And, I bet you've put up/canned/frozen all the vegetables from the summer/fall harvest.

Didn't mean to be flippant in my earlier post...whack it, hack it, pack it and stack it...  Cat

Days gone by
I'm right there with you. It is really scary out there today.

As far as the original post, while I know arrests of innocent people are made, I do find this story EXTREMELY hard to believe. True or not, though, you are right -- protection of your child is your first priority as a mother. Pornography is no longer just looking at naked ladies, it's just downright disgusting. I have two sons, 12 and 10, and I live in fear of what is out there that could hook them.
I have many days like that too :(
