Dad is a veteran? sm

If your dad is a veteran he probably has PTSD. Post-traumatic stress disorder is very prevalent among vets. My bro. has it and the only way I can get him to "light up" is to make him aware that I know what he went through (although I just can imagine, it must have been hell). I send him E-mails which praise vets, put a flag on any snail mail, etc., etc. He won't discuss the war but I let him know I appreciate what he went through in the service. Sometimes they keep it so much to themselves that it consumes them. The American Flag whether it be stuck in a cupcake, etc., seems to be much appreciated. Not much coming up soon, but remember these vets days. Also, to cheer my parents up who were also on a strict budget, I would just show up with a box of pastry, muffins, special foods, etc., as I know they were not able to "splurge" on themselves, so I treated them as often as I could, even if I put it between their doors, they knew it was me, I was the only one of six who pampered them and I will never, ever regret it. I didn't wait until the cemetery, I did it while they were living. Just a suggestion. Depression is catching, it gets us down as well. It's a baffling situation that drags you down. Good luck with it and remember it when you get older, don't let it happen to you. Practice being upbeat, don't let it get to you as well. Good luck, at least you care!
