Dad quirk

We took my parents to a restaurant where incidentally the doctors in the family practice group I worked for were having an dinner in an adjoining room. Mind you, my father was an amateur actor and never passed an opportunity to draw attention to himself. When the bill came he insisted on picking it up, but when he looked at it, he gasped and fell out of his chair onto the floor. My then-new husband and the rest of the room were aghast and rushed to his side. My mother and I knew what the truth was. Sure enough, he was faking. I wanted to crawl under the table but at that point that probably would have made things worse.

Still, looking back, I'm glad I have that to remember as he passed away a few years ago from Alzheimer's. I could have killed him with my bare hands then, but I remember it fondly now. And I miss him.
