You think gay people are the equivalent of a person

Addiction to anything is a disease, an illness, a condition.  An addiction to drugs is no different than someone obese with an addiction to food.  Come on!  You are out in left field on this one.

Yes, but let's tell the truth and protect the embryos too. sm
Many geneticists have developed strong reservations about the relative value of ESC research versus ASC research. Obviously, every dollar that goes for ESC research does NOT go to ASC research. Both ESC and ASC research have been going on furiously around the world ever since stem cells were discovered, but it is the ASC research that has proven to be the most promising.

Yes, continue with ESC research, but not by de-funding ASC research, and not, by any means NOT, without protections for unborn human beings.

There really is no debate here.
Wow - birth control = killing embryos? sm
I hope you're not holding your breath waiting for Mensa to invite you to join, or we'll be calling you "Old Blue".
work, cells, IMs, etc.

Part of the problem is my son got an academic scholarship and a band scholarship.  The band scholarship (which I didn't want him to take but he insisted  and my husband thought it would be good for him) involves about 27 hours a week.  We were hopeful that this would give him a group of friends when he started school.  That didn't work.  Anyway, band is a part-time job in and of its own.  That plus his other classes, I think he would definitely flunk out if he got a job on top of all those band hours.  He is NOT taking band next semester and he will get a job.  I don't care what he wants to do.  He will get a job.  I am not paying for dates.  He knows that.

The biggest problem I see with taking away his phone is that he will sit in his dorm room and talk on AIM all day long, and there is absolutely nothing I can do about that.  We told him we would be checking the bill and making sure that he was not texting during class, and since then, I have a real suspicion that he has been cutting classes to be in his room and talk to her on AIM since he can't talk to her on the phone.

I would almost rather him get out of his room and try to meet some other people and text on his phone than not meet anyone and talk to her day and night on the AIM.  Again, I don't think this is a bad girl.  I think this is a girl who has too much free time on her hands and her parents could care less if she texts day and night.  The thing is, if she really cared about my son, she would not want him to skip classes.  I dated my husband in high school.  We didn't go to the same high school or college.  We talked on the phone each night (for a short time) and came home and saw each other on weekends.  However, I would have never in a million years dream of having him skip class or do anything that would jeopardize his studies because of me.  She wants to keep him in his room so he can't meet people, or at least that is how I feel about the situation.

I am just so frustrated.

Life was sure much simpler before cell phones.....

Dear fat cells...sm
Dear fat cells. If you don't stop multiplying I am going to have to stop feeding you. Then, you will be made to watch you and your fellow fat cells slowly die a very painful death. So, for the sake of your family....just stop growing and we'll be cool!!!
Stem cells...sm

So, I'm writing this as Obama crows about reversing the ban on embryonic stem cell research.  A lot of people in the crowd who know nothing about the science are screaming and applauding.

Whoa.  Hold on for some facts.

First, embryonic stem cell (ESC) research has been going on full-tilt-boogie in other countries throughout the whole period of the US ban against using (new) lines of ESCs.  So, ummm...where are the miracles, please?  Adult stem cell therapies are already being used to treat over 70 diseases. Adult stem cells are much better for therapeutic purposes because they are already differentiated into the different tissue types (liver, nerve, etc.) and as such are much more immediately applicable.  As one scientist said, "When you have a liver problem, you need a liver stem cell, not an embryonic stem cell".  If you start with an embryonic stem cell, you have to first coax it into becoming a liver stem cell (if you're treating a liver disease, for instance) anyway...so what's the point?  The logic is difficult to escape, no?.

Second, embryonic stem cells show a marked propensity to develop into all kinds of tissues - including malignant tumors - and don't know the difference.  At least one patient injected with ESCs in Great Britain has died of cancer as a result.  No doubt, this scientific fact will be labeled "un-scientific".

Third, most embryonic stem cell collections are contaminated and unusable.

This does not mean that ESCs have no scientific value.  Blood, for instance, has been produced from ESCs.  However, there must be protections against the potential risk of sacrificing embryos in order to harvest ESCs, and there are ways to provide such protections.   Given the aggressive pro-abortion actions of the man who has already become known as "the Bloodiest President", we can have no confidence that this administration, which is indifferent to human life,  will protect these nascent human beings.

Why then, you might ask, are all the pharma companies screaming for joy?  Because, like the rotten science behind global warming, ESC research is an industry, and more precisely it is an industry that commands huge amounts of federal dollars.  That's what Obama was announcing today.  And, you don't have to produce any results to receive these dollars, either.  All you have to do is propose a research project, however improbable it might be, and here come millions of dollars.  It's the same reason state governors and bankers and auto company executives dance attendance upon Obama, kissing his ring - it's worth $millions and sometimes even $billions per pucker.

stem cells
stem cells are medical garbage. finding a use for them is science.
We just got rid of our line land and use only cells now. nm
x
this usually means some atypical cells
were seen - usually nothing diagnostic - sometimes something treatable (in which case I would think they would give you a script) like yeast.  They are not worried, just want to make sure that it is okay in 6 months or if it isn't then it may be something diagnostic.  It happened to me once - think it may also have been after relatively recent birth.  Shakes you up but it is probably okay.
Don't know your views on stem cells

You said it "rejuvinates brain cells"...sm

I was always told it kills brain cells.  I always believed that because I thought my ex was walking proof! lol.  Does it really rejuvinate them? I too believe in its usage for medicinal purposes.  Back in the day (waaaaay back) I smoked it once when I had an excruciating toothache (cuz that always happens on weekends when the dentist is closed!) and it relaxed me enough to tolerate the pain.  It was either that or I was going to overdose on Tylenol, Motrin, whatever I could find cuz they weren't working for crap.  I also did it once when I had an earache. (again waaaay back in the day).  It works wonders.  Doesn't take the pain away but makes it tolerable.  I definitely am against using it for recreation.  When my ex was getting high it was like walking on pins and needles around him.  He was wonderful when he was high but when he wasn't he was just the biggest a-hole!

I'm the one who said it rejuvinates brain cells
I can't remember where I read that exactly, but I read that it rejuvinates brain cells. It does not kill them like we've been told by "the establishment". I did find an interesting link that tells the myths about marijuana - here is the link.

http://www.drugpolicy.org/marijuana/factsmyths/
But how is it known, after differentiating the various stem cells that
the differentiated adult cells do not contain still dormant malignant tumors?

Is this a dumb question, as I do not understand much regarding this issue?
nah -- we killed too many brain cells

snorting the crack OUR parents didn't teach us about!

Geesh -- why always so quick to blame the parents?  This kid is 14 years old and knew better than to do this.  She chose to do it anyway, just like so many others before her time chose to get up knocked up, strung out on drugs, become an alcoholic, etc.

Yes, the kid screwed up, but that's what kids do.  Didn't you ever have a friend who stole a car in high school or got caught cheating and ended up expelled?  It's not the end of the world, but spreading it all over the media could very well push this kid over the edge and cause her to hurt herself.  She obviously is looking for attention or affection.  This is certainly not going to help her.

What is the best deal on cells and good sound also. nm
:
This makes me want to have more babies and save their stem cells. sm
But, I'm confused. Is America not doing any stem cell transplants? Is that why she had to go to China? I wonder how credible this story really is. I have family in the Joplin area. I hate to be a skeptic, but I really wonder if this is true.
Are you a night person or a morning person?
Just curious . . .
Even higher bill w/3 cells & a land line, but sound quality & customer service are good.

It probably varies from person to person (sm)

With me, first child I was out of the bed seriously within 5 minutes of having him.  I didn't tear or have to be cut, he was 7 pounds, 3 ounces.  The doctor did some type of vaginal massage on me though while I was in labor and that was supposed to help loosen the vaginal wall?

Second child, same experience.  She was 8 pounds, 1 ounce and within 5 minutes of having her, while they took her to the nursery to get cleaned up and all, I walked downstairs with my husband to the cafeteria to get a drink and stretch my legs.  I had already put my regular clothes back on as well.  My doctor who delivered her was walking in my room as I was walking in and he was stunned a second and said he thought I was a visitor, LOL, not the patient.

I don't think you have to have bed rest in normal cases.  With my son I went home within 24 hours with him and with my daughter we went home in only 20 hours.

you can give the people the facts, but the decision making process should be left to the people

This is what our country is founded on FREEDOM OF CHOICE!   I'm laughing already; you are just as mortal as the rest of us, and don' even attempt to that you've never done anything in your lifetime that was unsafe or unhealthy. NOT gonna buy it.

it is wonderful to see how many people have such strong opinions about people in debt.

I thought that the purpose of this board was to be able to post without being judged unfairly or have somebody tell you how wonderful their personal life is, and therefore you are causing their life to be less wonderful with your irresponsibility. Well, the saying "walk a mile in my shoes" is a good one in this case.  Since you have no personal information about the person you are lambasting because they are looking for information on their debt, you can feel superior.  Had you had personal information about them, you might act in a more human manner. Consider fighting cancer for 4 years, working and being debilitated while you do, suffering the effects of chemo, going into debt to maintain your home for your children and looking for a way out of debt SHOULD YOU EVEN LIVE THROUGH THIS!!  Thank you for the kind comments.  To the judgmental people I say please take a step back before you judge.  You do not know who you are talking to and if you knew the personal information maybe your comments would be kinder.

I get frustrated by the double standard they use when judging people. They let certain people go sa
What do you think about the voting process?
People who go around calling other people "low class"
have their own issues in life. Ignore them. Nothing like a misplaced superiority complex to make a person feel good about themselves. Like they've never done anything gauche or made a faux pas. It must be nice for them to be so perfect and live in a glass house.

For that matter, you probably saved your piggy's life by popping that mondo zit! It could have gotten infected or something.... (yes, I have a zit popping fixation myself, but you were really descriptive on that pig zit. gag LOL)

Man, you would have appreciated the time one of my relative's popped a HUGE cyst on her face. I was standing right next to her at the time and leaned back because I knew it was going to blow. It did! Big time! All over the wall, mirror and light fixture. I'm still disgusted by the thought of it 10 years later. LOL In a revering kind of way...
some people did, some people didn't. It's their choice.

No, I am not that person...sm
Nor am I trying to be ugly...I think YOU come first in this situation.  If not, you'll get in deep trouble with your health, then what? Your family needs you...take care of yourself, and make your husband pitch in...that's all I'm sayin'
Who is this person?
I have no clue who this person is.
I saw a person having 1 of those 1 day
and they could do like all the other people around, just ignored it. I was in a public building, guy down and frothing at the mouth, not a good scene but totally ignored.
What do you think causes a person to be --sm
unable to show feelings/compassion for anyone else?  I have a friend?? who shows no emotion at all.  Says it is the way she was brought up and her family are not talkers.  I shared some devastating news about my son with her last night and she has shown more sympathy to her dog after it was spayed than she did to me.  Just do not understand how someone can see a person as broken as I was last night and offer absolutely no comfort.
I think that person needs more than just a

Perhaps you could help me tell if this person is just like you or not?
If not that is fine, but you could probably use your "talent" to help others, like a PI or something.
Are you the same person who

posted a month or so ago having sent an e-mail to your husband's family regarding your husband's brother who is in jail and the father's apparent favortism?   Just curious if this is the same family we are talking about.  I remember that husband was bipolar and alcoholic.

I don't know the legalities of the situation but you might have to go through the garbage of calling the police, the dramatics and the ER one last and final time.  But then be done with it.  He's not choosing to get better and you can't make him.  Change the locks.

Be strong.  Hugs to you.

Mom of 3 you are one nasty person...
I hope your children dont take after you. Teaching them responsibility is one thing but pure nastiness is another.....
What a Wonderful Person
I wish I knew more people like you. It's too bad that some people are like this, but unfortunately the world is so much different thatit used to be. Keep doing what makes you happy.
The person who last had our number...sm
still uses it, so we get calls for her all the time! We got this number over a year ago when we moved and constantly get calls for her. We always tell them this is not her number anymore, but I guess lately she's been using it to give to loan places because they told us this. They apologize but it still stinks. She has a lot of debt out there, especially for school loans. We don't want to change it, though, and go through the same thing again and having to tell everyone our new number for nothing. We're also signed up at the Do Not Call website.
how condescending can a person be?

After I had a surgery 2 years ago, I gained an incredible amount of weight - not water.  Last May I started going to the pool and doing water aerobics every single day for 2 months and changed to a low-fat diet.  I did not lose weight, but I was replacing fat with muscle, which is the first step with the amount of weight I was dealing with.  Then I started getting one URI and sinus infection/ear infection after another.  All that exercise kicked my GI tract into hyperdrive.  Now I have IBS and colitis.  I can't exercise because I have to battle real and exhausting pain for the next 2 hours.  I have pain every single day.  I no longer have hunger pains as normal people do, so I really do have problems knowing when it is appropriate for me to eat.  I've been with 2 different GI's during this time, failed 5 or 6 different medicines, and still can't lose weight, diet or exercise.  My pay has been cut in half.  I had to quit my second job and only work part time now instead of full time - all because I wanted to get healthy and in shape again.

The next time you think having extra weight is a choice, let me invite you to pay the $600/month I pay for medicines to control my GI tract issues.

I usually tip 15% because I also tip the shampoo person.,,,,
But if the hairdresser does it all, including the shampoo, etc., I tip closer to 20%.
I would say either try a contact person where the
contact may be someone in the Social Services for your state.  Maybe even the Division of Child Welfare.  I would look in the phonebook under government agencies.  I bet a social worker may be able to help or guide you in the right direction.  I knew someone who had a child with cerebral palsy that took the insurance offered from the employer, but was able to get Medicaid for the child as a supplement for things the primary did not cover.  I am not sure if this is state-by-state though.  Hope this helps.  Good luck to you and your daughter as her children do need health insurance.
To The Person Who E-mailed Me

The calling card is yours if you want, but I didn't receive a reply address; the "From" field was blank for some reason.  If you could resend, that would be great!

I think it depends on the person....
xx
It seems to me the person should be talking
to the person they are having dinner with and not someone on a phone. And as posted below, they usually have to talk rather loud and I do find that annoying.
To the person who e-mailed me...
Thanks so much for the information about BioSpot. I had no idea and I should have done my research beforehand. I have already ordered it but will be sending it back. I finally figured out that the Zodiac has been making my dog very itchy, so much so she has a hot spot now. Used it before but did not put two and two together. I think I will try the Frontline.

Thanks again for the warning! Hope your cat is doing better now.
Take it seriously and report to the person
you would think would be most instrumental in getting the assistance she seems to need.
U must be a wonderful person....
to have two such beautiful people in your life. Sounds like you have a great family!
This person is not a friend

You could use all kinds of psychological terms like "codependent" and "enabling" but the fact is, she is a mooch and you are a sucker.

Harsh, I know, because you were trying to be nice and help someone. But there are some people you just can't be "nice" to. They will walk all over you. Obviously, she is one of those people.

If you're angry at anyone, you should be angry at yourself for taking so long to figure this out.

But that would be a waste of time. Chalk it up to experience and move on. Cut your ties with this person as much as possible, and if on occasion you have to see her for whatever reason, practice saying "No. No. NO."

I think that person is just a LURKER, trying to
Not a person worth taking seriously, wouldn't you say?
Thanks everyone and to the person who emailed me.

Would I be a horrible person if
I got my cats declawed? I'm totally against declawing, but my husband is REALLY mad and says either we get them declawed or they have to go. We just got brand new furniture and they have the arm of the sofa snagged up already, luckily it is the piece that is being replaced cause the delivery people broke a board on it bringing it into the house. I don't know what to do, I would never get rid of my cats for doing something that is in their nature. I already have scratching pads and a post and put the catnip on it. They must just have more fun scratching the furniture. Any ideas, suggestions?
