A good carpet company can dye the carpet where the bleach spot is.

Carpet
I hate this carpet.  We just bought the house from my husband's aunt and uncle and they had it forever. I call it Las Vegas carpet. lol
I had new carpet put down and after the
carpet guys (who moved my furniture) had put everything back and left, a new lingerie set I had just bought (tags still on) was missing.
Carpet can be patched.
They cut out the damaged part and glue in a new piece. Depending on the carpet, a lot of the time you can't even tell it was ever damaged.
No, why did she put a pot down on the floor/carpet? - nm

carpet shampooer
Okay... I would like to have some input and opinions here.  I bought a carpet shampooer a couple of years ago.  I used it 2 times and then my sister-in-law who I have since learned is not great about returning things she borrows wanted to borrow it.  So she comes to pick it up.  I didn't mind letting her borrow it at all.  Well carpet shampooing is something I do maybe twice a year.  So I wasn't needing it right away, but when you borrow something I think you should return it you know.  Well it is never brought back and I talk to her often so I figured well she will bring it back soon and when I get ready for it I will just simply go get it.  I was hoping she would bring it back though because I have a VW Beetle and not real easy to fit the shampooer in the car.  She has a pickup.  Well about a year after she has borrowed my shampooer I say well I am ready to shampoo my carpet I need to call her and tell her I need to pick up the shampooer.  Well I call her up and tell her and guess what?  My carpet shampooer is broke.  (Remember I only used it twice.)  I said well I only used it twice it must not have been very good.  She said oh no I used it at least once a month.  (I guess she wore it out)  She said don't worry I promise you I got your moneys worth out of it.  I was shocked.  Could not believe it.  Did not offer to replace it or pay for half of what it cost.  Nothing.  So now I have to buy another carpet shampooer.  I guess you can't be nice and let not even family borrow things.  Next carpet shampooer will not be loaned out needless to say.  What is your take on this?  What should I say to her?
Does anyone own a carpet shampooer?

Like the ones they sell in Wal*Mart, etc?  How do they work compared to something the the rentable ones (Rug Doctor)?  Thanks.

I hate carpet and was so glad when
we moved to our new house and had tile downstairs. I really didn't want tile, but it is better than carpet.

The tile is very hard to keep clean though. Also, the previous owners did not seal the grout when they put it in, so I have a big chore ahead of me. Personally, I love wood floors. I would have them in the whole house if I could. My dad put in the laminate in his home and bought the good kind when he found it cheap and bought enough to do one story at a time since sometimes you can't match it up if you only buy a little at a time. It is very durable and doesn't scratch like real wood. It is super easy to keep clean too. You can't really use the swiffers on the tile because they don't do much, but on wood you can.
In the process of tearing up our old carpet
carpet to reveal hardwood floors and plan to sand ourselves - a huge project I am told - but sweat equity. You put down beautiful vinyl tile squares on our old linoleum which was over hardwood - I wish we had remodeled the kitchen ourselves - we got taken big time - so do yourself if you can. Congrats lady and best of luck!!
Is it just concrete and no glued carpet or anything?

If so, I'd just paint it with "concrete waterproofing sealer."  It'll lock out any oogies and make the whole basement cleaner looking, brighter, and will most definitely lock away that smell which may forever be in your concrete.

Copy-n-paste this link to read more.  We did it in our home because of the same darned pet poop/pee nastiness, as well as mildew (they stored maybe 5 cords of green wood in the basement and...just dang...).  Well worth the investment and time to do it.  I actually love my basement now.

This may sound funny, but I just set a hot pan on my carpet because I took SM
something off the stove and ran to see something on TV that I was waiting to hear. Forgot and sat the hot frying pan on my carpet for several seconds and now there is a big circle that is dark and the carpet fibers are hard!!  Do you think Resolve would help this at all?  The bottom of the pan was a bit greasy because I was frying something in it. I thought Resolve might at least diminish the darkness!   I have done some dumb things in my time, but this ranks right up there.    Any suggestions would be helpful.  (I already thought of cinder blocks, a rope and the river). . .
If there's nylon in the carpet fibers, it probably -

Like cat suggested if you have left over carpet
somewhere that is a possibility. We once cut a piece out of a closet so you never knew it was missing. BTW, Jennie Garth went home. Used to be a big 90210 fan so that was disappointing.
You're right! I did see carpet like that in Vegas! sm
Yours looks a lot nicer!
Bleach spilled on carpet
Yikes! My son accidentally spilled a large round area of bleach on my tannish-colored carpet and now it has a lovely orange spot reminiscent of the color old orange shag carpets. Anybody know if I can re-dye this spot?
I would try to find a piece of carpet
somewhere in your house - closet, etc., and have  cut out the area and install the other piece - it will stick out like a sore thumb for a while as it is not worn - but eventually will look fine.  You might even be able to find a carpet installer to help you with this

Any tips on getting paint out of carpet? sm
My daughter had a party tonight with probably 10 kids here.  One of the girls spilled a can of paint in the garage they were using for their "haunted house" and stepped all in it.  Rather than staying outside until she got the paint off with the water hose, she tracked it all into my house!  I am furious!  Of course, she wasn't wearing her shoes.  She was playing and put my 16-yo's shoes on.  I highly doubt she would go tracking through her home with paint on the bottom of her feet and she even came upstairs laughing saying I stepped in that paint that we spilled.  I said then what are you doing tracking it all through my house, get in the bathroom and wash it off!  She is 12 years old and should know better. Kids these days are so disrespectful.........Any tried and true tips for getting paint out of carpet?  Should I say something to her parents?  This is the same child I almost sent home earlier today because she slapped my 9-yo son and I did call her mom about that and informed her of what happened and if I had any more incidences out of her she was going home.  Hitting is not allowed in my house period!  Geez, can I say this child will not be a vistor at my house anymore!
Well, I tried the Resolve today after work, and the carpet is sm
really no better at all. It is fried.  Actually the round spot shows up better now because some of the carpet around it got clean and the round mark still dark and burned.   At least I tried. I will  just have to get a throw rug, something quite pretty I hope to take away the memories of a seemingly very small UFO that landed on my carpet!
I'm eyeing up that carpet and that tennis ball sm
That looks like an ooooolllld carpet but in extremely good shape. Grew up with one like that many moons ago. Your dog must be kin to my 2 dogs who both sleep on their backs with all 4 paws in the air. They look so cute. Now that tennis ball looks like mine. I think your baby took it from mine as I can't find any of them..... Just joking.
Years ago had a mixed breed (1/2 pit) and he was allergic to the carpet! sm
We tried everything and finally had to put in outside. My husband built this beautiful kennel for him. He actually thrived outside! I missed having him to snuggle with, but seeing how his health improved outside it was the best for him.
post made of carpet? make one and upholster it.
my cast NEVER claw the carpet yet all the scratching posts I see are made of carpet.

Your cat may also like the height of your chair for 'pulling' those nails, stretching those limbs.

Anyone know a good way to remove nail polish from carpet? - sm
My daughter spilled nail polish on the carpet in her room, so now I have a long line of pink nail polish on the carpet. Tried with nail polish remover, but not much help. Any ideas? Thanks.

I need advice. Daughter received a frantic call from a friend, sm

Her friend is at a local sleepaway camp at a local university this week.  My daughter is 18, her friend is 17.  Anyway, the friend called my daughter telling her she had unprotected sex over the weekend (once) with her 17-year-old boyfriend (they claim it was the first time for each).  Anyway, the friend wanted my daughter to pick her up so that she could get a morning after pill.  I looked it up on line and anyone under 17 needs a prescription.  My daughter had come to me, asking me not to tell anyone.  I told her that she should have her friend call her mom.  She said her friend thought her mom would freak out if she found out.  We found a local clinic, but it is only open certain days of the week, and was closed yesterday, so she's going to try again tomorrow.  I've tried to get my daughter to convince her friend to call her mother, that she may freak in the beginning, but parents usually get over it and would want to know.

My dilemma is that my daughter told me this in confidence, and I want her to continue to be able to come to me with anything, yet I wonder if I should call the girl's mother and tell her that her daughter needs help.  Or, just wait until she goes to the clinic and pray that she isn't pregnant.

Does anyone have some advice?

RE: Any computer pros out there? SM
Would like to see what sites my nephew has been in but he is smart enough to delete the history.  Is there another way to check and then delete off the computer?  Thanks.
Pros and cons
It would probably be about half that to do it yourself, but time is money.

The only thing I would warn you about and be prepared for is that SS and other professional carpet cleaners, no matter what the quote is, will try to sell you 'extras.' Just be prepared to say no if you don't think you need what they are offering.

I think the do-it-yourself is just as effective and I actually like doing it (a break from sitting on my bum all day LOL), but again, time is money.

Just some pros and cons of private college

Pros

Academic excellence. At the private university learning is the emphasis more than the curriculum itself. The curriculum is rigorous and the course-work is unending, but learning is the central focus at such schools. If you plan on working during school, it is very difficult to balance a full-time schedule at a private university with a work schedule. The time commitment required to succeed in a given class is high, and this will ultimately interfere with your ability to work.

Close-knit community. The student community is an integral part of most private colleges. This can be difficult for more independent students who prefer a less hands on approach. The students communicate closely with professors both in and out of class and the students themselves attempt to involve everyone in campus activities. Involvement in the student community is one of the keys to enjoying your college experience at a private college.

Involved students. The classroom dynamic is much different at a private university than at a public school. Most students are entirely committed to their academic success. They participate actively in classroom discussions, complete coursework, and are fully engaged in the classroom culture.

Top-notch professors. Like the professors at state universities, the instructors at private universities have track records that attest to their personal academic achievements. While most are reputable, professors at private colleges tend to be more loyal to the college they work for and more interested in the achievements of their students.

Merit scholarships. The listed tuition is the highest at private colleges; however, what students actually pay for tuition is usually lower. When a student is interested in a private university and the school is interested in the student, both parties begin negotiating tuition by way of grants, merit scholarships, and other financial incentives. Thus, students with a good G.P.A. and knock out test scores should consider applying to any private institutions that they are interested in.

Class size. Even at larger private colleges the class size is contained. There are still lecture halls, but typically, fewer teaching assistants and more professors. At small private colleges classes can be as small as 10 or 12 students.

Cons

Homogeneous population. If you are looking for a more diverse student body that recruits kids from all walks of life, you aren’t likely to find it at a private college. If you are interested in a particular university, check it out first. It’s definitely a good idea to get a feel for what type of students they attract and their current student body is a good indicator.

Demanding schedule. The heavy workload makes it difficult to balance extracurricular activities, a job, and a social life at a private college. It’s a good idea to identify your priorities before setting out to attend a school that cost $30 thousand a year. Your parents will appreciate your consideration and you will avoid unnecessary conflicts.

Cost of tuition. Tuition is high, even for a good education. If money is no object—go private. If finances are a primary concern, consider all of your alternatives before committing yourself to a decade of debt.

Transferring credits. Private universities each have different crediting methods. If the university that you choose doesn’t work for you it may be difficult to transfer and retain all the credits you have earned.

I used to do store security for a major department store - try this -
Go to the store and ask to speak with someone from the security department. Tell them what you have stated here. Hope they are able to help you!
LCD cleaner
I agree, my HP LCD screen instructions say absolutely no cleaners whatsoevere, just a damp soft cloth. I also use a soft feather duster across it daily which helps.
I had a house cleaner...
That charged 15 bucks an hour and she did everything I mean everything from dishes, to toilets, showers, tubs, garbage, no laundry though, windows, vacuum, sweep and more that I can't remember for only 15 bucks

So yes I think you can find someone that will take $15 for that!!
My dog loves coconut oil right off the spoon. Try the health food store. Sometimes in food store,

I had a vacuum-cleaner Dalmatian. She ate -- (sm)
oranges, sticks, gophers, anything leather, including a 6-foot leather dog leash. One day she even ate the plastic lenses out of the tail-lights of my dad's car. She was the easiest dog in the world to give a pill to! All we had to do was say, 'Want a treat?' and toss the pill at her. Didn't even have to hide it in anything. She'd catch it in mid-air and it'd go straight down her throat.
On Saturday I saw my DH using the vaccum cleaner. nm

natural bug cleaner for cars...anybody got one?
Does anybody know of a natural solution to remove bugs from your car without ruining the paint job?  thanks
On another note...does the automatic cleaner work?
Wondering if I should get one.
Yes, but I still have to wipe that with cleaner once a week because of hair
and crumbled soap left by my son.  Unfortunately, it didn't come with someone to do that for me.....BUMMER!
Poll time: What is the best vacuum cleaner out

We are talking hoses, cords, bagless, baggy, bulky, suctiony, heavy, you name it.  I am looking for the perfect vacuum!  Just moved from a house with central vac and I am going to miss it!!!

Thanks!!!

Two things. Every time I clean my LCD screen with cleaner for it it gets streaky. How do you get
rid of the streaks when you clean it.  Also another issue, I got tired of always pulling out eyebrows and I am letting them grow in.  Anymore do this and how bad does that look.
I agree. I do use a cleaner especially for LCD screens non alcohol. You spray it on little cloths
they give you.
Vacuum cleaner works great for me! Love those midair catches.

I use a nonalcohol screen cleaner for my LCD screen and it leaves a film all over it. Nasty and
it is made for LCD screens and a well known name.  Any suggestions.  I have to use clean water on a wipe to get the film off.
OMG, are you sure that's not the same store?
Or do all young male cashiers just have a breast fixation? Boy oh boy.
You don't have to go the store.
You don't die from not being able to go into a store.  You may die from secondhand smoke (living with a smoker), but I doubt from simply walking through a door and inhaling a few seconds of secondhand smoke.  Most people will eat themselves to death before they die of secondhand smoke.  Funny how the older generation smoked, ate lard, and never took vitamins, and most lived to be in their 100's.  I have an aunt that died of cancer, never drank, never smoked, never ever did anything but serve her husband and she died.  My grandfather rolled his own cigarettes and lived to be 91 after a career as a coal miner...  go figure...  cigarette smoking I'm sure causes cancer, but so does a lot of other things like auto fumes (pollution), asbestos, and the like.  They are building new homes minutes from toxic waste dumps.  If you get cancer it won't be from walking through a doorway of a store where someone is smoking, it will more than likely be from the other things listed above.
Don't go to the store...sm
you must be a smoker who thinks they are the only ones being deprived of their rights. We all need to go to the store. What a ridiculous statement to make. People who smoke are addicted to their addictions and don't have the courage to break the habit. True, cigarette smoke is not the only thing that causes cancer, but if I choose to not have it affect my life and my pleasure of living my life, you don't have the right to inflict it upon me, just because you choose to stay addicted to your addiction and don't like being told you need to go to certain areas in order to feed that addiction. If you need to smoke that badly, don't go to the store and smoke. Don't go to the store at all, just like you told me I don't have to. Stay in your car and inflict it upon yourself or stay home.
