Go along to get along (sometimes)

I am still working on this, as I tend to flare up easily. I have learned to smile and nod a lot. I went to a seminar on this and was told to "go around" the difficult person which is very hard because I consider this-two faced. I had to be around a bunch at Christmas and I just practiced smiling and nodding a lot and when the conversation turned religion or politics, I excused myself to the ladies room once, then again changed my seat by saying, "Oh, I think I'll go check on the others." Sometimes a bunch of females especially can get together and attack you like a rabid dog. Best thing is to stay out of these situations. I could very easily become a hermit but this is not healthy. Sometimes if you just repeat their last sentence, it kind of reaffirms what a foolish remark they just made without adding your own two cents. It takes practice, patience and restraint to put up with "itchy" women (and men) but for me it's mostly women in a group who find strength in numbers and ATTACK! Hate it but it's everywhere.
