Good news on Lucy, the destructive dog

Posted By: Sally on 2008-12-16
In Reply to: Lucy's mother... - sbMT

I have found humane society that arranges spaying/neuturing at no cost to me except for $5.00 for antibiotics the animal hospital charges. Lucy's mother tells me this morning she has decided probably best to give her up. I have found a place that rehomes animals through Petco- group of ladies- they take all animals as their own and animals can be returned once adopted, no questions asked, if they do not work out for the people. I reallly feel fortunate to have found this group of people on Craig's out of Atlanta.

That is really good news sm
It is really hard, and I am glad you found a solution that will work for you.  Please, keep us updated and how she does in the new school.
Good news!!

  IT ISN'T BEDBUGS!!!

We had the exterminators over and they said they have extensive experience treating bedbugs, in fact they are fighting them at a local hotel right now along with a number of private homes.

They didn't see any evidence of bedbugs and they said the marks on my husband don't look like bedbug bites at all.  They suggested that he see his doctor, which he is going to do.

Woohoo!!  I am sorry my husband is suffering, but we are both GLAD it isn't bedbugs.

That IS good news! Now he can come in

Hopefully good news
I go to a senior citizens place and this morning found out they are starting ceramic classes the last of this month. First of all I am really pleased just to go but uppermost in my mind is the possibility I might be able to do my own gravy boat. I really love crafts, wish I had my mothers genes in that regard, but don’t so I need instructions and then follow along but still love doing things and might even get that boat I need. Lucky me!!
that really IS good news.....
Thanks very much for the info. I will definitely check into it as that is a huge factor in determining whether or not I actually do go back to school, (among other things, such as how much time will this take away from my family? I don't want it to take too much.)
There is good news.
(03-07) 13:37 PST SACRAMENTO -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger denounced a state appeals court ruling that severely restricts homeschooling and promised Friday to change the law if necessary to guarantee that parents are able to educate their children at home.
"Every California child deserves a quality education, and parents should have the right to decide what's best for their children," Schwarzenegger said in response to the ruling, which said children educated at home must be taught by a credentialed teacher.

"Parents should not be penalized for acting in the best interests of their children's education," Schwarzenegger said. "This outrageous ruling must be overturned by the courts, and if the courts don't protect parents' rights then, as elected officials, we will."
My good news?
I'm alive!

And on a totally trivial note - I finally figured out how to use a banana comb in my hair without it looking like a disaster.
Good News
My daughter just got straight A+. She's in 8th grade, but she's in all accellerated and honors classes (9th grade). Now, if we could just get her in shape at home. LOL.

My good news
My youngest son is graduating high school in less than a month with state and school honors and got offered a huge scholarship at one of our state schools, which he has proudly agreed to accept. He wants to pursue chemical engineering and work with alternative energy sources. This is our bright future, and I am so proud.
My good news...

My daughter, who graduates from high school in a month, got accepted to the college she wanted to go to this fall.  She was thrilled!

It is good news......but the only thing is
from what I have heard he is still getting paid (or already has been paid) for doing the book. I only hope that the families can collect what they won in the civil suits from what he is being paid.

That is such great news. Good for her....
That is wonderful for you as well.  You must be so proud.  Best wishes to her new path in life!  I love bragging on my kids, too, and I thank them each night when I tuck them in (12 and 7 years) for giving me reasons to brag, and they just smile!  That never gets old, ya' know?  Enjoy  !
Good news! Glad all went well.

Glad you got some good news to
make you feel a little better.

I love good news and this is certainly some
I had posted this morning asking about pup-pup and I was really worried it was parvo, glad to know the baby had its shot already for that. Thanks for the update!
Good news today for me
I posted about this a few weeks ago. I had tile put in throughout my grand room, porcelain to be exact, spent over $8,000.00 for that and lo and behold something that was supposed to be the tops started getting spots all over it. Not only that but I noticed some scuff marks. The installer came over, the people from the tile company came over, even the manufacturer from Italy came over. That was put in in May, now September almost over. I wrote a demand note to the installer I wanted it redone at his expense (I paid him for everything up front) and before the letter had time to get to him he called telling me the tile company going to pay to have it completely redone. I am a happy girl. Even though I love the porcelain, needless to say afraid to choose the same and going with another kind. Keeping the old fingers crossed!
'statins - any good/bad news? sm
I have been placed on generic Zocor, low dose, and really hate being on pills, I don't know why he wants me to take it h.s., but take Tricor in the morning, along with two BP (nifedipine and Atacand) meds. I just hate putting stuff in my system, feel like I'm poisoning myself and perhaps it's my imagination, but I felt better taking nothing.  BP has improved but my overall health feels compromised by all these pills and my stomach is not too happy.
How about some happy good news

Anybody got any? Seems like lately there has been page after page of bad news, news stories and more. Now please don't think I'm knocking anyone for posting them but I really really need a pick me up today and I think a lot more are needing it too.

Sooooo that being said....does anyone have any good news to share? Anyone preggers, expectant grandparents, bought a new outfit, shoes, jewelry?

While I'm thinking of good news
y'all can enjoy a pic of my furbabies, they always make me smile.
Glad to hear the good news -sm
Thanks for the update. That is good news! You have eased my mind about having it done, and I hope to do it real real soon. I know I've put it off long enough. Your messages have been so encouraging and much appreciated. I'll keep watching in case you post any more good news. ;-)
I am SO happy to hear the good news - sm
Have you tried offering her the AD food you get from your vet mixed with Pedialite? Very high in nutrition. I also like to offer them the meat baby foods and small pieces of ham or whatever else they like. Cherish every day with her. Love her. Put her needs before your own no matter what. I think you will know when it is time to let her go. Focus on the joy she has brought you over her lifetime. I will be thinking about the two of you. :-)
I heard some really good news, look inside
I also am in Georgia and perhaps you have listened to Clark Howard or Elise Glink who fills in sometimes for him. She was talking the other day to a guy who wanted to get into nursing. The opportunities are endless right now. Places are actually paying for any and all tuition, etc. you need - in return you work for them for ?? don’t know the length but if I were you, I would definitely go for it. The pay is otta sight, the rewards many, and you know with MTing how it is going! I do not think you would be doing the wrong thing if you did. I hope you will look into the issue of having the lot paid for you, what could you lose? You might try looking on Glink's web, you could get in touch with wsbtv consumer line and they will give you that link (that is out of Atlanta if you don’t know). Good luck with that!
Thanks for the good news! Enjoy your baby! :-) nm

Glad to hear the good news! Now.......

Okay good news first, the running will stop at some point.

My youngest (3-1/2 now) did the same thing, and my 5-year-old never did either.  I was mortified with his behavior and the worst part was my dh thought I was overreacting.  Then he took the kids to the store alone one day.  He came home and said "Wow Tommy is naughty in the store", well duh!!!! that is why I look like I have been through a battle when I get home from the store everytime.  At about 2 1/2 he started listening and got psyced about holding on to the cart with mommy, or even better riding in one of the "car carts" that they have at the supermarket.  But anywhere that he needed to sit still for I just ended up finding a babysitter until he was more calm (around 32 months).

My 5-year-old starts school this year too and she is having the same issue.  She is not a shy girl by any means, but she is soooo worried about K.  I think it is normal and I am hoping that she will be okay once she gets there and is involved in the activities.

Sorry I guess this was not really much help, except to know you are not alone.

Hey - that's great!! Nice to hear some good news (nm)

Read really good news on reverse this morning
including FHA which is for only over age 62 and which is insured. With anything people need to check these out. There are really good ones out there and thanks for bringing this up again.
Wow, he is very self-destructive.
He has only one life, but he's determined to be miserable? We can't control the whackos and can't help who we are related to. Men can be so difficult.
Usually, they are trying to tell you something when they are destructive.

I really need help about a destructive dog
Trying to do a good deed, I rescued a 2 month old puppy from a humane society (without hubby knowing)- I have cats and then no place to keep Lucy. Well, I was fortunate to find a loving home for Lucy and I have taken her for her baby shots and am paying to have her spayed in January. Here is what has happened: The lady who got Lucy tells me today Lucy is so destructive lady is at her wit's ends. The dog has ate its own feces, wood, furniture, etc. The lady truely loves the dog but I understand where she is coming from as I have had a destructive pet (not a dog before) but it is terribly frustrating. The lady does not think caging is a good idea (I have no experience with this) and she cannot beat the dog to a pulp although she tells me she has disciplined Lucy. I know if she decides to give Lucy back (she has gained a great amount of weight and gotten out of the cute puppy stage when I first had her) that a return to the shelter is not good and they would put an animal like that to sleep because it was owner surrendered. That breaks my heart like I think it does Lucy's mom now. The dog spends some time outside on a run leash (although in the lady's part of town that is not allowed to have a dog on a chain)- the lady says Lucy is in of a night, of course, because too cold for her to stay out. Can anyone give me any ideas about what to do as far as having the dog settle down some and not be so destructive? The lady says this is the only problem, nothing else. Please???
Further infformation on destructive dog

Read on Craig's list about a lady saying she would take any and all animals. I spoke with her today. She is vice-president of a humane society here. She and other women work take in animals as their own and then have vet places and Petco where they get assistance and also homes for the animals. I told the new owner of Lucy (my rescue animal) that she should just go ahead and give her back. I explained that most of the posts were saying crating was good for the animals, not only did they think of it as being a safe haven but also somewhere they learned to like. For whatever reason the woman again today totally against that. I told her to think about it overnight, make up her mind but my husband says if she is not willing to at least try what people are saying, she probably just does not want the dog anymore. I have to get the dog spayed and the VP of the humane society has already made arrangements for me to get Lucy spayed for $00.00 as well as my new rescue kitten. My vet had told me $120.00 plus for the dog to be spayed so I appreciate the reduction. I did tell Lucy's mother I would take the dog for obedience- once again she said no. I do hope tonight after thinking about it she will make the decision to turn her back over so we can maybe get a home where Lucy will have training. The VP of the humane society ask was this a lab and I said no- she told me she has raised them and for the first 3 years they are terrible, will eat anything that is around. Thanks to all that sent information and I have tried to let your thoughts be known to the present Lucy's mother but she tells me she is a "softie" and cannot try the things people are telling her??

it's a puppy of COURSE it's destructive!
it makes me so sad when people adopt or buy dogs without knowing the responsibility that comes with them. even if she isn't in the "cute puppy stage" anymore. This puppy needs attention, needs exercise, needs play time, and even when those things occur she STILL might be destructive. The puppy needs training (like all dogs). she doesn't need to be on a "run leash" she needs to be taken on a run! i know this is probably better than a shelter, but not much... I have two dogs that i adopted, and they did all those things you mentioned. they are learning and exploring and curious! I did crate my dogs, that is what you have to do when you are not constantly watching them because you cannot discipline a dog AFTER the fact, they do not put two and two together. You have to CATCH them doing it, discipline, and CORRECt. For instance, you catch the pup chewing on the furniture you say NO or whatever to distract them, and then give her a toy she CAN chew on...

Crating is okay. i used to think it was awful, but now that is my dog's little bedrooms. of course you can't keep them in there all the time, please dont... but that is a suggestion for a couple of hours a day...

Does anyone else have a dog that wants to be destructive when left alone at home?

I have a 70 pound pit bull who is the biggest baby you will ever meet.  And good doesn't tear anything up UNTIL I leave him home.  Then he gets the shoes, his food bowl, water bowl, now he is tearing up DVD cases.  I have a fenced in backyard but he has been able to jump the fence if he wants.  So I don't trust leaving him out there when I am gone.  I put him in the extra bedroom for a while and he tore the door up and got out.  He is like the Turner and Hooch dog in the movie.  Not only does he act like him he looks like him.  He is just an angel as long as you dont leave him.  If I bought one of those big cages like they have at the vet I guess he couldn't get out of that.  Gotta do something.  Any ideas?

after Carter and Lucy (sm)

in my opinion is when it started to go downhill.  They turned Carter into a junkie and started going off into the doctor's family lives (Abby's mother's mental problems, her brother's mental problems, Pratt and his father, Chen and her father, I could go on and on with the not-so-good story lines).  When they killed off Mark they killed off the heart and soul of the show (although Carter did a good job stepping into Mark's shoes and then when HE left, well . . . . . ).  Now there's just not a whole lot of substance left.

Lucy's mother...
Unfortunately this situation happens a lot. It sounds like she is afraid of Lucy not liking her if she disciplines her. A lot of people don't understand that dogs crave an order to the house, den, etc, and if it is not given to them, they will try to establish it themselves i.e. destructive behavior, aggressiveness, and so on.

Lucy probably isn't a good match for her. She probably needs a dog that is already well trained, and even then she would still have to establish that she is the "den leader".

May I ask where you are located? I take in strays a lot and would like to get them spayed/neutered before finding them homes, but the cost around here is about $150 and I can't seem to find any programs to help (I'm in South Georgia). The humane society here has a low income program, but I don't qualify (by a whole $500). Yet if you take the stray to them most likely they get put down.

Kudos to you for keeping up with Lucy though!
Lucy, I would definitely be on the phone sm
with those people demanding an explanation!!.  Especially since you live in an apartment -- there should be no reason why your bill would increase 6 times over, unless they hiked their rate ridiculously!!

Sounds like you have lots of "splainin" to do, Lucy.
You do NOT ever write off an older family member, Mom, Grandma, MIL, Dad, FIL. They will not be here that much longer and have walked the walk and talked the talk. Forget and forgive and forge on. You have no right to cut them out of your children's lives. You are not God.
See, I knew if I posted after the noon news it would be different after the evening news! LOL nm
