Has anybody every tried cheesemaking?

I love cheese, all kinds except limburger.I think I'm crossed with mouse genes. Gotta have cheese on everything but with the price of cheese going through the roof (Cracker Barrel  8 ounces, $4.35). DH said he'd buy me the equipment necessary as a Christmas present. (He really thinks I'm nuts.)

Anyway, has anyone tried to make their own cheeses? I'm thinking of trying it. How did it turn out? Was it good? Did you have any problems doing it? Did it take long? I'm pressed for time every day, but think I can squeeze an hour or two to do it. What was the cost; i.e., cheaper than buying cheese?

I used to make my own butter years ago and it used to be great. I'm thinking about doing that again, too, since butter is skyrocketing.

Thanks for your help.
