Has anyone ever had a spinal fusion, esp lumbar? If so .... SM

how long were you out of work.  Now, I realize that this will probably vary, but I am more than likely facing one in the future but am not quite there yet, and my mind is just full right now thinking about my back and what all we're going to do, then the surgery down the road.  Just wondering about being out of work after the surgery is done.  Has anyone ever had this?  Mine will be a multiple-level fusion, at that.  Thanks for any comments on this.

I had a lumbar diskectomy years ago, and believe me SM

there were times I actually thought I was worse after the surgery, but tell her to give it time. A physician friend of mine also had it done and told me that it can take up a full year to realize the full benefit. In my case it was several months, but it was getting better as it went.  I remember not even being able to put my heel flat in the shower and had to keep it elevated. The pain from the compression of the nerve before the surgery and the nerve swelling after the compression was relieved was very, very painful. Tell her to hang in there. In the long run it was the best thing I could have done.

Has anyone on this board who suffers with chronic low back pain had any experience with this treatment?  I have/am suffering from chronic low back pain caused by a car accident 4 years ago in which I was rear-ended.  I've changed my lifestyle drastically in order to avoid back surgery.  Any opinions/thoughts would be appreciated.
i had cervical fusion
And that turned my entire back arthritic, not saying that is the norm but it is not abnormal either according to my physical therapist. Try NUCCA chiropractic first and only NUCCA Google it and see if there is one near you. Worked wonders on the spasming I had. Also I retired from my job after my surgery but I was a police officer so that is kind of different.

Anyone had a cervical spine fusion and if so how long off work? Thanks.

Has anyone had a cervical laminectomy with fusion? SM

My stepdaughter, who is only 25, is having one Friday.  I wanted DH to hire private duty nurse, by apparently the doctor told her today she will not be in any pain and will feel better than before the operation.  What?!!!!

I type these procedures all the time, but know very little about what happens afterwards.  Know people are out of bed fast, but no pain?

Any input will be very much appreciated.
