I've seen Dave Ramsey on Fox News

Posted By: Backwards typist on 2009-03-02
In Reply to: I hate it when the dang computer wants to....sm - curious girl

but never got a chance to try to find his web site. I will though, hopefully sooner than later.

We had our dream car a couple years ago. My favorite color (blue) with blue interior and a very large luxurious car that got unbelievable 30 mpg. It was the first time we spent more than $1000 on a car except when I had a brand new Horizon back in the ྌs. We loved that car, only 50,000 miles on it, thought it would last us forever, but little did we know it was in a flood. We started smelling a musty smell coming from the trunk when summer rolled around and 3 years later, it was trash, all rotted out underneath, nothing electrical worked on it. Even though it had all those things wrong with it, I still loved it, but it had to go to the graveyard. Broke my heart. (They don't make that car anymore).

That same year, a friend gave us a calendar that had daily numbers on it. If the number came up on a certain day, you would win those $$ for that day. December 29, our number came up and we won $100. The same day, DH bought a car with a blown engine for $100 without knowing he had won the $100 from the calendar. So, in reality, we had a free car. We pulled the engine from my blue baby and put it in the $100 car and it lasted 4 years until the windshield and transmission started to go.

We are still going to save the engine from my blue baby because it still has a way to go to hit 100K just in case this other car has engine problems. Then, if not, we will probably sell the engine later on to get a few extra dollars needed.

I've been working on a budget since last year that I downloaded from MS and was surprised to see that we rarely have any $$ in most of the columns, but  insurance and taxes are eating us alive. No way to get out from under all the myriad taxes (federal, state, local, property, school, township, breathing, emergency, sales, etc.) and insurances (health, home, car, disability, vision, life, etc.).

I am currently on Dave Ramsey's
program and just paid off my 1st bill yesterday. Everything he says makes complete sense. It took a while to build up my 1st emergency fund, but it really is not as hard as you think if you put your mind to it and stick to the plan.
Try Dave Ramsey
After you tell him (and you HAVE to tell him!) check out Dave Ramsey.  He has a show on TV every night at 8 p.m. (central) on the Fox Business channel if you have cable, or check out his book from the library, The Total Money Makeover.  He teaches you how to plan a budget and work TOGETHER with the finances, one of his most important techniques, and living within your income.  In this economy we are all struggling--your biggest mistake was trying to keep it from him.
You must be an follower of Dave Ramsey. That guy is the best!!!
nm.
According to Dave Ramsey, my hero...sm
He says if you have cards you have paid off or no longer use, you need to call and write the credit card company and let them know that you want the account closed. And that you need to keep checking with those institutions to make sure they have actually done what you asked them to do. IMO, I would do the same thing..cancel them completely and then cut them up to boot. Hope this helps.
RE: Has anyone every heard of Dave Ramsey - See message
He has a program called Total Money Makeover.  Has anyone ever tried it??  Thanks!
I agree with this poster and so does Dave Ramsey. sm
Get your hands on anything of his and follow the recommendations. He has helped me greatly. As Reality Check says, and I agree, our economy is in dire straits and not having any financial worries will be worth the effort to get there.

Good luck to you and your wife.
Oops, it's Ramsey...nm

Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares rocks!
I appreciate the format of that show--trying to better a restaurant in his "loving" way.

BBC America is just great in other shows. How Clean is Your House? and You Are What You Eat are the other great shows, IMO.
LOL, they have been looking for Dave at my house, too, he must move a lot! :-) nm
nm
Oops, above posts about wrong Ramsey show.
x
See, I knew if I posted after the noon news it would be different after the evening news! LOL nm

go see Meet Dave with Eddie Murphy.
The kids will love it - and so will you. He played it so well! Cracked me up...several times.
Dave is my Baby Daddy who owes $27K,

that's probably me calling....sorry.

"So Damm Lucky" Dave Matthews.
.
Dave Ramsy, The Total Money Makeover....
His message, "Live like no on else so later on you can live like no one else." Budget is not a bad word and saying no to the kids is not wrong and does not make you a bad parent.
If you've got one, you've got bunches!

How do ya feel about cats?  That's what I'd do...get a cat...but I love cats and love it when they bring me 'presents' of dead varmints.

If that's not an option, and you're not comfortable with baiting, glue traps, or that sort of thing, it'd be worth it to hire a professional 'cridder ridder' or exterminator.  Those things will chew up your walls and floorboards like you have no idea and cause incredible amounts of damage.  Good luck in your jihad!

I've done this 12 yrs and I've had to take breaks sm
Took a break and worked at my kids preschool one year, worked at a hospital one year, took a couple months off once. It does burn you out because it takes all of your concentration. When I worked at the hospital as a secretary I could not believe how easy the job was ;-) I was sooo used to just getting paid for actual work that when I had a conversation with a coworker or a phone call or took lunch, I felt like I was getting away with a lot! I hope your break works out!! I wish you lived close-by, we could take turns watching each others kids ;-)
Fox news
And . . . you're more upset about the poor grammar than the actual subject of the story - a man shooting his supervisor!
not new news here in FL

well Howard murdered Daniel and Anna Nicole for one reason only--  dinero there are things reported here in Broward-Dade that arent on the national news

They better not. According to FOX NEWS
she was handcuffed and tossed in cruiser. I missed it. SHUCKS.
news
Yes this is terrible. I am surprised the family members didnt freak out and run back and get the doc. YOu can bet i would have been screaming like a freak and grabbing someone if that was my family member
any more news?
nm
Yes, that's news to me too!!
we have pets in our house but can't say I've ever heard the above.
Old news
Yes maybe old news, but isn't it still illegal?
Much news
Thanks for asking. CJ had an ultrasound, which confirmed the pneumothorax but they could not find any tear or other reason for it. Because they had serial chest x-rays (yay me) and now the Doppler, they are confident there is NO LUNG CANCER. They were therefore good to perform thoracentesis, and this released 3 liters of air (wow). CJ is now resting much more comfortably. They will check for any re-accumulation of air at 5:00 and release anything they find, and if all goes well, we can pick him up at 5:30. Then we will hope that his body is able to heal. There will be rechecks. We will be tapering off the prednisone but give him doxycycline to prevent infection. Pretty good compared to thinking we were going to have to put him to sleep, eh??

I will attempt to get some money back from that first vet. Turns out the pneumothorax was clear as day on that FIRST chest x-ray, the one they only took because I was so insistant he couldn't breathe.

Prayers are appreciated!
I saw this on the news also
And was wondering the same dang thing. People do not use their heads for some reason. And then go on TV and expose their stupidity...not me! If a psychiatrist asked me to pull up my shirt, I'd lay him out and leave...then call the cops.
Wow. So much. First of all, I'm sorry for this news. Awfully sorry. sm
I can't imagine that kind of diagnosis.
After being severely depressed most of my life and then finding God (please don't move this to the religion board), I have determined in my heart and mind to live life to the fullest each and every day. I play lots of board games with my kids, call my mom, keep scrapbooks and journals, teach 2 classes at our church, and I study the Bible avidly.
I try to show love and kindness to every person in my life. Whenever I'm with others, I try to make it a point to listen twice as much as I talk and show genuine care and concern. I call people I haven't seen much in church to check up on them. I pray for people all the time. I take long, hot showers. When I am off work, I actually don't work! I can go on and on and on. I don't want to think of "if I only had so many days left," because I know that tomorrow may be the day I die. I don't want to waste any of it right now.

I am aspiring to be a speaker and travel the country giving my testimony, writing books, and encouraging women (especially depressed women) that THERE IS AN AWESOME PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE. You just have to find out what it is and live it. Every day.
I saw this in the news also. They say that one
of the things that may have helped save his life is that workers like this are taught what to do and how to brace their body in case of a fall. I can't imagine I would have my wits about me enough to remember what I was taught. This truely is amazing and definitely the work of the Lord.
News to me
Riley Children's Foundation -Riley Hospital for Children is my choice. :)
I saw this on the news the other day...how sad
they let out child molsters and rapists at the drop of the hat but it's a big deal to let this guy out long enough to see his daughter. what a sick society we live in.
Yes, just saw that on the news. Here is more
BREAKING NEWS

updated 11 minutes ago
NEW HAVEN, Connecticut - A spokeswoman for screen legend Paul Newman said Saturday that the actor had died at age 83.

Spokeswoman Marni Tomljanovic said Newman died Friday of cancer. No other details were immediately available.

Newman was nominated for Academy Awards 10 times, winning a regular Oscar in 1987 for "The Color of Money" and two honorary ones. He was equally at home in comedies such as "The Sting" and dramas such as "Hud."

So sad. What a handsome man he was.
This is old news....
Rachel Maddow, news reporter of MSNBC just came out.
i am sorry for the news...
but, you may well be right on 2 counts -- that it may work out for the best (rather than tragedy on vacation) and life IS good -- (not was) -- your vacations can just come a bit later!! God bless.
sad news

Nip/Tuck, my all time favorite medical show is getting cancelled.  I wish they had worked in a story about McNamara Troy dealing with a loony MT!  Anyone else have a favorite doc drama?

bad news
I know how this can be as I have an overbearing hubby when it comes to finances. Personally, I would wait until he is in that "chatty" kinda good mood and then say I have something to tell you and dont freak out!!
Have you guys seen the news...

about the alert and info on the 9-month-old?  People just blow my mind with some of the things they pull these days!!!

Wonderful news
What great news! I'm so happy to hear that you have a healthy baby. Good luck. It's too bad your first doctor had to scare you like that.
Wow ... that's fantastic news!
I'm very happy for you.
That is really good news sm
It is really hard, and I am glad you found a solution that will work for you.  Please, keep us updated and how she does in the new school.
That's great news!

I hope all of them get adopted out to loving homes.  Bless you for what you are doing, I'm sure it hasn't been easy.

Cho manifesto?

VT killer mailed video and multi-page statement to NBC in between shootings

Reuters, with files from National Post

Published: Wednesday, April 18, 2007

BLACKSBURG, Va. — The gunman who went on a rampage at Virginia Tech university sent a "rambling" and "disturbing" account of his grievances to NBC between the first killing, when two people died, and his slaughter of 30 others, the network said Wednesday.

MSNBC, an affiliate of NBC, said the material included video and a multi-page statement. It said the broadcaster handed the material to the FBI.

In Monday's rampage, the worst in modern U.S. history, a man and a woman were killed in a student dorm in the first shooting while the others were shot in a classroom building on the campus about two hours later.

The gunman, a student identified by the university as Cho Seung-Hui, then shot himself dead.

The correspondence with NBC was confirmed by Steven Flaherty, the Virginia state police superintendent, who told reporters at the university: "Earlier today NBC news in New York received correspondence that we believe was from Cho."

He said it included "photographs, video and multiple writings."

MSNBC said NBC officials would not disclose the contents of the material pending the FBI’s review.

According to a report on MSNBC.com, the package was time-stamped in the two-hour window between Monday's shootings and sent to NBC News head Steve Capus. Capus told the news Web site that Cho talks to the camera in the videos, vaguely referring to the shootings in one instance and stating that "This didn't have to happen."

Police feel the package may represent "a very new, critical component of this investigation," Capus added

well, appears that he wanted minutes of fame (by his notifying NBC in between the two shootings, making it premeditated for sure).....very sad....

God Bless Them All.....

Good news!!

  IT ISN'T BEDBUGS!!!

We had the exterminators over and they said they have extensive experience treating bedbugs, in fact they are fighting them at a local hotel right now along with a number of private homes.

They didn't see any evidence of bedbugs and they said the marks on my husband don't look like bedbug bites at all.  They suggested that he see his doctor, which he is going to do.

Woohoo!!  I am sorry my husband is suffering, but we are both GLAD it isn't bedbugs.

That IS good news! Now he can come in
x
Hopefully good news
I go to a senior citizens place and this morning found out they are starting ceramic classes the last of this month. First of all I am really pleased just to go but uppermost in my mind is the possibility I might be able to do my own gravy boat. I really love crafts, wish I had my mothers genes in that regard, but don’t so I need instructions and then follow along but still love doing things and might even get that boat I need. Lucky me!!
Great News!

I'm so very happy to hear about your nephew.  One National Guard company who had been in Iraq for almost two years arrived safely in Minneapolis last night.  As I understand it, that's the longest any troops have been deployed.  Some of them had children they'd never seen--I cried along with all the rest of them when watching it on the news this morning.

Hope things continue on the "outsourcing" path, and your nephew and all the rest of our wonderful men and women so willing to fight for what's right in spite of it all will return safely and SOON!

Tell me how to listen to the news when
I get sooooo out of sorts listen to the idiotic, stup*d things people are doing each and every day. The stories I am hearing today- a mother gets on her daughters bus to have the child to fight for herself- with the mother holding the backpack for her child so "it would not get in her way." I think the mother charged with contributing to the deliquency in that case. The mother is telling the courts she is gonna teach her child how to defend herself?? What a crap! Another case today is mother who threw her 6 month old child at a police officer when the mother being investigated for having drugs in her trailer, another mother doused her 3 children with solvent, fires them up and the youngest child has died. Friends let a blind guy drive and he has wreck and dies- what in the hel* is happening with this news business. I cannot hear the news without all this insanity..
It is not only in schools. It can be anywhere. On the news here
in SC last night, a little boy 3 or 4 years of age has it and is at MUSC in Charleston but doing good.  He was not in day care anywhere.  He stayed at home all the time.
There is nothing on the news. Is this a bad joke?
