Yes, they do. 10-month teachers make more than 9-month
teachers. I know that for a fact. One of my sisters was a 9-month, one is a 10-month. They are compensated for working more scheduled hours.
How many of you have disabled texting

on your kids' cell phones?  Or is there anybody who wishes their kids did not have texting?

Just read the article about the dad who smashed his daughter's phone after he received a nearly $5000 bill when he thought he had disabled texting on his daughter's phone but had not.  She had sent about 20,000 texts in one month.

My kids still ask me for texting but I will not budge on this. I see their friends texting and how it is nearly impossible to get their attention once they are sucked into their texting universe, and that is why I won't let my kids have it.  It's hard enough to get their full attention as it is.  I was just wondering if I'm the only mean mommy.

Kids and texting
My daughter does have texting, but she only has a trac phone. She's one of the teenagers who would wrack up hundreds in cell phone charges if she had a regular cell phone. She only has a certain number of minutes that have to last three months before she can buy more. She knows if she uses those minutes up she has to wait until the end of the three months to be able to use her phone again. It's her choice whether she wants to waste her time texting. The first three months she had her phone she used all her minutes up in a month in a half basically just texting. She actually just got her phone for Christmas so she was one of the last of her friends to even get one.
The brat texting kid for Cingular ....sm
if that was my daughter she'd never breathe near a cell phone again much less touch one to text her "BFF, Jill".
Ok, give me a quick course in texting
My daughter has gone to Mexico and I get a text message from her. Ok, i am 1 of these older people and have never sent a text message in my life, took a long time just finding out how to read hers. Now folks, tell me how to send her one back. She would be AMAZED as she knows I do not know how to do this. I could say ladadedada.  thanks?
My tracfone does have texting capabilities
my daughter figured that one out all by herself. LOL. We've been thinking about getting her one for a long time, but our problem is she'll have the minutes gone within weeks and then she'll have no phone. I guess she'll have to learn the hard way if that happens.
Great idea! besides, texting
could conceivably save a life at some point...think of some of the situations you've seen on the news (kidnapped, locked in a car trunk, school shootings, dept store rampage...) personally, i'd go the route of the above poster and not disable it. A 3-month quota also would teach planning (ie, math:) for how many text msg can be sent in a month/week/day...teaches responsibility, etc. I also have an almost new tracfone to sell. but that is not why i posted my response.
I went with unlimited texting with my teenage kids...sm
because they can really burn up the kb!  It has become useful if they need something and are in class.  They make good grades in school and that helps with the deal.  I bargain a lot with their grades.  Certain things they do have to work for, I don't buy bells and whistles.  I do like it because we can communicate.  They did teach me how, which gave them laughs for hours!
Yes, especially if you are on a month-to-month basis

My mother had rental properties and has evicted tenants twice because her daughter (sis) decided she wanted to live there.  Those tenants were pretty upset at the time too, because they didn't want to move.  A landlord isn't required to have a reason for taking back their property or raising the rent.  They will likely give you a good reference since you're been a good tenant.

A year after Katrina, all the landlords on the Gulf Coast decided to double or triple their rent, just because they could.  Due to the housing crisis rents are going to continue to rise, because more people are losing their homes and looking for apartments.  Its all about supply and demand.

The bright side is that working at home allows you to live "anywhere", so you could see this as an opportunity to move somewhere completely different.  That's what I did, and I haven't regretted it.

If it is a month-to-month lease -

If there is no signed lease stating a specific time (1 yr, 2 yr, etc.) then it is implied as a month-to-month least and either the tenant or LL can terminate at any time.

I would look for a place pronto if I was the OP.

And she should get another job pronto too if the one she got ain't paying the bills.  No reason to let it go on month after month, paycheck after paycheck, until you are in the street, that is just plain stupid.

If she is getting evicted --- there is more to this story I believe.

yeah, tired. monthly plan HERE w/10 mo. extra for unltd texting. nm

c phones
I have 2 different types of C-phones and  also currently work on a Lanier system which is basically the same as a C-phone.  You need umlimited long distance and you plug it into a phone jack.  If you do not have a second line to your home, you plug it into your home line, but you cannot receive phone calls while in use.  Both types of units work exactly the same as a regular phone.
C Phones

I have a very dumb question (probably), but I have never used one.  I need to know what a C Phone is and how it works.  Is it similar to a Lanier machine?  I have a Lanier and have used it quite a lot, but I am looking at several positions on the Job Seeker's board and they require a C Phone which I have no experience with.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

I cannot believe they don't even have pay phones there somewhere - sm
I lived in a very small dorm. We had one floor phone (incoming calls or to make operator collect calls) and 2 pay phones on the second floor (3 floor dorm). We also had 2 pay phones in the large common room/reception area where the TV and pool table were. Just not safe not to have any phones; not everyone has a cell phone (granted probably 99% of the students do, but batteries do die). Maybe you can contact AIM and shut down his account somehow.....though there are several IMs out there he could use instead. Can you get his log-on and password and monitor how much he is on AIM and then have him sign a contract not to IM her more than 30 minutes a day as his studies are suffering. I cannot believe they have that much to say to each other, especially if she is still in high school(?). He has to grow up and realize just how important school is and an education unless he wishes to end up in manual labor or at McDonald's because he never finished college and got a degree. Of course depending on his field of study he may still end up at McDonalds do to no job at the end of it, but at least he will have that degree and that is important.
Please take the phones out of the little girls' hands!
Just got thru watching AI and am disappointed YET AGAIN that Sanjaya was not voted out. It's gotta be all those little 13-year-old girls that are voting for him, because there's not one lick of talent there. Granted Stephanie wasn't at her best last night, but she was at least 10 times better than Sanjaya. They all were, for that matter! Oh well, I still don't believe he will make it much longer. At least I hope not.
AI - good show. Can't get thru on the phones, though.
I won't say any more since the left-coasters haven't seen it yet.
the phones were not working last night

I got through one time to vote for Melinda but then, after that - the first phone # said this number is not registered (recording) and the other number(s) said *for a charge of $6.99 you will reach a national directory service* and was sending you to a number like 10115158000.  The numbers last night were all messed up.  I went to American Idol's website and there was NOWHERE to report that the phones (all lines) were all messed up for hours.

So, in my guesstimation, the outcome of the show will be totally wrong/slanted/fixed.

Betcha American Idol has no clue at this point (early a.m. Wednesday) that this even happened last night.

Looking for cell phones you no longer need...

Hi!  My church is collecting cell phones as a fundraiser.  If you have an unused cell phone lying around that you would like to get rid of, please let me know!  Just let me know what the brand, model number, phone co used for and I will let you know if that is one that is on the list.  I will pay for the shipping to get it here!

Thanks a zillion!

kids and cell phones

Both my sons got their own cells phones when they went to college and I suggested they get the prepaid type....When their minutes ran out they were outta luck....They learned to budget their money pretty quickly though.   Both worked and went to school.  It also taught them that there's no such thing as a free ride in this world.

Teenagers and Cell Phones
We plan on getting our 13-year-old daughter a cell phone for Christmas. She does a lot of afterschool activities and I want her to be able to reach us at all times. But we're getting her the prepaid trac phone. We already told her, don't expect a fancy phone with a camera and texting capabilities (you can text with the trac phones, but it just takes away your time). If she doesn't accept that, then no cell phone. My husband had a friend at work whose daughter's cell phone bill was $600 one month. I can see that happening with a teenaged daughter.
I have a couple of Verizon phones.. SM
That I will be willing to sell.  They're the enV phones, pratically brand new.  We moved and can't use them in our new house in another state so Verizon let us out of our contract. If you are going to sign up with Verizon let me know.
We have 2 phones, family plan with 200
free text messages and my bill is only 65.
On mine and husband's phones s/m
My husband and I have it disabled on our phones.  We are not teenagers,so we don't text, and we were getting charged every time we got a junk text, even if we didn't open it.  Our kids have a monthly plan, but if they go over they have to pay.
Alltel - about $120/mo family plan with 3 phones. sm
i like the alltel circle. most of my family has alltel as well and those that don't, i put 10 #s in my circle, any network, any phone # land or cell. we have unlimited nights and weekends, unlimited mobile to mobile. i have 350 texts and my daughter has unlimited texts and web for $19.99/mo added in that bill. i think towers for different providers are different for different areas though so you might wanna check out what is most popular in your area. i am in the south.
People talking on cell phones while having
dinner in a restaurant. I realize some people have to take calls, but just get up and leave the table.
OP says she answers phones as her at home job...she HAS to answer
nm
Have used only cell phones for probably a couple of years.
Saves us about $80-85 a month.
I understand the problem with cheating by using phones
and my children do carry the cells to school but keep them turned off and in their locker....which kinda defeats the purpose of being able to call in an emergency but I do know the problem it can become. The kids are also not supposed to have them on field trips that are just for the day (they are allowed to take them on overnight trips). Well, my son was on a high school field trip to VA Tech on Apr. 16. If hadn't had a teacher that allowed them (just don't abuse them) we would not have known for hours that he was okay. I went to the middle school that very afternoon and spoke to the principal about my DD taking her phone on a field trip and the principal said that it would be okay. That's good, cuz she was taking it no matter what.
Internet and cell phones - I remember before (sm)
I was a secretary in the late 80s for a medical association...I had to make up and send out hundreds of "meeting packets" to the doctors who were going to attend every month's meeting. Pages and pages of copies, colating and stapling them, addressing every FedEx label...it was an all day job, sometimes two days. Now you could just do a mass email and send it to all of them in 5 minutes. Amazes me every time I think about it. I also used to keep a monthly calendar of accredited events doctors could attend and had to mail that out to everyone...now, that can all just be put on a website to be viewed by anyone who needs it.

The cell phone thing though...other than being really glad I have it when I have car trouble or something, I'd rather not be tied to my phone like that. It is as though everyone expects you to be available all the time. I don't answer mine most of the time and call back if I need to.
Two cell phones can't share the same numer.
You'd have to get 2 separate numbers. You can get a basic family plan so you can share minutes between the phones. If you do that, you're looking at spending a little more than on your home phone bill, but then you have the added benefit of having a cell phone, which is nice to have especially on the road in case your car breaks down or something. You could always just forego the second phone line and family package, and just get a single cell phone & save a little money that way too.
So you think cell phones are safe? This is troubling!
This is probably what it does to our brain power - like putting your head in a microwave,

I laughed when I saw that privacy and cell phones, my goodness
out in public those 2 just do not go together. Unless I get a call (which I seldom do on my cell) I do not make those obnoxious calls that lets everyone else around me or a block away listen to all my conversation. I am so put off by those I usually try to walk away from the person who is doing this. By the way, if I am tracked they will find me 99.9% of the time in my own home.
Cell phones - How dangerous is their long-term use?

Hoax or not, the long-term safety of cell phones is still very much in question!  They are not innocuous, and emit harmful electromagnetic radiation in varying amounts.  Just as policemen's radar guns laid in their laps have caused testicular cancer, so the incidence of brain tumors from cell phone usage has also been on the rise.
That very thing happened to my stepdad, a brain tumor & aneurysm right above his right ear, where he holds his cordless phone constantly.  Cell phone signals decrease fertility of humans & animals alike, & Swedish researchers have proven that they are ESPECIALLY damaging to the brains of children!  Cell phone-using kids are FIVE times more likely to get brain cancer.  I gave mine up over 5 years ago & will never use another one on a routine basis.  This issue is being covered up, but is certain to become the controversy of the 21st century, just as tobacco was in the 20th century.

Does anyone have Verizon and also their cell phones. Can you tell me if they offer a decent deal if
you have both from them compared to other cell phones. No sure which one to get.
Our teenager learned a valuable lesson today about cell phones....

She got a new cell phone last month and downloaded a bunch of ringtones, even though I reminded her that each one costs money + the transfer fee, which the system prompts you for as we don't have the internet plan for the cell phone (don't do text messaging either).   Well, she ignored the prompts about the 3 cents per kilibite fee and size of the files alert when she accepted the downloads she selected.  To make a long story short..... her bill for her downloads is right at $60.

She is crying that she has to pay this bill but I'm not working overtime because she ignored my telling her about the costs and accepted the charges.  This will teach her a lesson on responsibility.  She was expecting the bill to be about $20.  She'll be babysitting up a storm this next month to pay this bill!

buy every month
Melaleuca products you have to buy 35 products points each month to keep your account. Which is anywhere from $40 a month to whatever you want to buy. You don't necessarily have to work the business part you can earn a check each month without actually signing up any customers. Customers will be put under you by other people and you will be making money off of the products that they buy. That is waht my mother does. She isn't in it for the business she just loves the products and still gets a check each month
$347 per month

Don't go out to eat except maybe once a month.

It's amazing how much money you will save by doing all the cooking yourselves at home and brown-bagging lunch.  This includes those $2 cups of coffee here and there every day--really adds up fast!

Keep your goal somewhere in site...literally slapping a picture of your dreamhouse on the fridge or some place you'll be reminded every day of why you are making the sacrifices you are making.  Good luck!

Since you have a month, why don't you

get together and do a pic of the team or even a few and frame it!  I'm sure he'd like that.  You can even go to one of those machines, have it blown up and have it say something special down below.

Also, they like gift cards to the local convenience store.  Everyone could use a gift of "gas" especially when they are volunteers...

Happy sporting!  Glad you had a great coach!

Ours is usually between $200-$250 per month.
Our electric company has some of the highest rates in the country...lucky us! Our bills usually go up a bit in the summer from using the air conditioning and running the pump for our pool. Electricity is definitely our highest utility bill!
Don't have your mammo at the end of the month, then.
Or it will hurt. Schedule it when they aren't painful. I've had it before, but I took evening primrose oil capsules for maybe six months. No more trouble.
Won't the be surprised next month
This happened to an older friend of mine.  Poor thing couldn't get another policy to save her life, and it wasn't a cosmetic issue, it was like entire siding pieces that flew off of her house.  Oh, they and came fixed it, then they dropped her like a bad disease.  They'd better be careful.  Just a friendly warning...  I don't know if I'd let the homeowner's insurance in on that deal, I'd cut my losses and replace the carpet.
TOM = Time of the month (sm )
Was trying to be a little modest - sorry!
Just in Vegas about a month ago
Go there a lot, the Flamingo is catty-corner to the Bellagio where we have stayed the last 2 times there. Know where it is because I went to a show there. Older place, smoky, they have real flamingos out in the back with ducks, etc, been there but not to stay. Toni Braxton headlining there and George Wallce comedian there now. Know what I talk about.
I know, she hasn't been on here in about a month or so
Hope she's okay.
I've had it about a month, it's almost gone (sm)
Dr. gave me an inhaler for the anti-inflammatory properties and a decongestant. I keep debating whether to go back but it is so low grade...I will probably wait another week or so and see if it goes away. Hope you feel better soon.
2- month window
and then there won't even be a way to give a bad rating of the dealer.
Will you come and live with me for a month or so? nm
!
wow you pay 350 a month for a HOUSE?
lucky duck, I pay 465 a month for a rented townhouse
Last month I spent $321 for 3 of us.
It's just DH, 18 year-old son, and I. We live in the Philadelphia area. We generally eat far less meat than most American families, but we aren't vegetarian. My son commutes to a nearby university and works there, as well. He provides his own lunches, and probably only eats breakfast at home half of the time.

Now, if you want to factor in what we pay for the meal plan for our son who lives away at college, well then... that's a whole other story! KA-CHING!
My 10 month old, Starr, does that, too.

I actually have pictures of her sitting in front of the TV in the office watching Animal Planet, Kung Fu Panda, and Transformers.  I can see her tracking the action with her head and every once in a while she'll bat at the tv screen with her paw.

It's the cutest thing.
